It is obvious that the next boss is Skuntle Bingoid 😂 enough of that, at the end of chapter 2, the being that controls us is in charge of stabbing the wheels of the car so that toriel cannot go for the sugar, Therefore, Toriel called officer Undyne to come in the morning to check her car, so she would be here shortly. that being also turned on the TV and slightly opened the door, This is what I feel will happen: Undyne will come in the morning, see the door open, enter and fall with us in the dark world, so I feel the next soul mode in chapter 3 is actually green, I don't know where they got that it could be the purple color, Muppet is nowhere in town.
I had the dumbest idea once that the shadow mantle wasn’t a weapon or piece of armor but an accessory that allows darkners to walk around freely in incompatible dark worlds. This was when I thought the chapter 3 secret boss would be the How to Draw Dragons book and the gag would be since she was originally from the library she’d already be stone by the time you come along so you’d have to drape the mantle on her to free her from that state in order to fight her.
I have the theory that the shadow mantle It's Ralsei's tunic thing, He specifically said that the beings of darkness are only compatible in their respective kingdoms, he refers to himself as the prince of darkness but he has no father who is the king, lancer's father is the king so lancer should be the true prince of darkness of that kingdom, So, if he's not a prince, and apparently he's not from that world either... if he really is a "dark being" he has to have something to keep him from turning to stone. Or maybe it's just another lightner, but it pretends to be a darkner. But if so, then there is another question: the legend of the delta rune says that a human, a monster and a "dark prince" They would be the ones who would save the world, if Ralsei is not a dark prince, then the legend is false. :l
You never know, it could be an item of clothing that powers you up, gives you more durability AND can reflect the will of any dark fountain due to it being a mixture of different darkners (Maybe the shadow crystals make it also you get shadow crystals from the secret bosses who are in different dark worlds) Maybe Ralsei owns a type of mantle because he doesn’t turn to stone in the Cyber World or the Card Kingdom. Maybe his mantle is the scarf he wears. Although the more I think about it, the less it makes sense as there are a lot of shops that sell scarves and never run out of stock. Would they really give away these things and also if it was so easy to get, wouldn’t the darkners that were about to turn to stone just buy it? Edit: The theory above mine actually makes sense, instead of shopkeepers handing out scarves, Ralsei actually owns a rare tunic, the one we see him wear which is why he doesn’t turn to stone. Good job @SprayInk-And-GritGlitch
"I DONT SEE WHY A ITEM WOULD BE NEEDED TO ENTER SOUL FORM WHEN IN DELTARUNE: THE SOUL CAN TRANSFORM AT WILL" ...Hold on, let me unpack something real quick. In Undertale, if you fail enough times at Undyne's first attack, amongst the complaining, she will mention that she _gave_ you _half a spear_ to defend yourself with, as she wanted a fair fight. You needed _external assistance_ to be able to defend yourself, because, without it, Green Soul Mode's defining characteristic is being _unable to move._ Perhaps that's why Seam says it's hopeless without it. And perhaps _that's_ what the Shadow Mantle is, not a piece of equipment, but a function of the Green Soul mode. A shield. And about the Soul transformations being voluntary... Maybe not? In Undertale, they were usually only placed upon you by monsters, using their magic to control how you can move. sans and Papyrus cause your soul to be affected by gravity, Undyne locks your soul in place, and Muffet sticks your soul to her webs. The only Soul Mode that _doesn't_ apply to is Yellow. Yellow isn't placed on you by Mettaton, it's a reaction added from Alphys _for his presence._ A mechanism that _only_ benefits you, as opposed to having a drawback. Same as in Deltarune, your Soul reacts to Mettaton's body's presence, changing to Yellow so you can defend yourself. So I think that these Secret Soul Modes, at the very least Green, will be placed upon us by the Secret Bosses, as a method of making it easier to hit you. And Spamton was the exception, not the rule.
Thing with the green soul is it doesn't innately have a shield, it did in Undertale cos Undyne gave a spear, so it makes sense you'd need something such as the shadow mantle to get it
What genuinely terrified me was when you look at the lyrics for "you got a friend in me" you can find "remember what your old pal said." Which parallels with spamtons dialogue during weird route. When he says you can seal the fountain but dont come to your old pal Spamton to kill you
I'm actually more interested in how Seam knew we needed the shadow mantle and by extension, the boss we were about to fight. How did he know about the boss darkner? And was Kris opening the fountain forseen or not? If not, maybe we could obtain the mantle in Ch.3 and prepare ourselves for the Ch.4 boss fight...
My theory is that the boss Seam is referring to isn't the chapter 3 secret boss, but the chapter 4 secret boss, because it will probably take place in the church (according to chess theory) and holliness, the boss's likely elemental type, is associated with the church. I also think that you will find the shadow mantle by returning to the abandoned classroom and getting the Alvin drawing. This would make sense, as Alvin is probably the knight and the knight is shrouded in darkness (shadow). Also, if anyone could be immune from holy attacks, it would be the city priest. Also, we can see that the Alvin drawing was in the same dark world as Sean's shop Edit: it would also make sense if Sean didn't know about the chapter 3 fountain, as it would show up the same day as the chapter 4 fountain and Kris isn't the knight, making sure that only those who know the truth know about that fountain.
I had a thought that you may need to repeat chapters. As in, you collect the Mantle in chapter 4, go back to chapter 2/3 and *that's* how you find that chapter's secret boss. After all, the shadow crystals seem to find a way to you even throughout saves, so why not throughout time too? We, the player should be able to grab things from one timeline and use them in another. Maybe that's what happens... your timeline's shadow mantle gets stolen if you don't find it, or it finds its way into someone else's if you take theirs.
Your comment has made me think, Because Gamemaker (The engine toby is making the game with) announced in their discord they are working with toby to allow for multiple Deltarune chapters to be run at the same time, implying some form of extra connectivity between chapters IMO It would be cool if you could send Items back through chapters, using the cave in castle town as a teleporter that connects all chapters
The Shadow Mantle protects against holy damage might represent King opposing lightners which gives evidence to the King theory, althought it may just be a coincidence.
4:10 I'd imagine it's because the shield isn't a part of the green soul mode. Undyne gives us a spear in undetale to use as a shield, the shield isn't part of the green soul effect.
Another thing I don't like about the green soul boss ideas is the whole. Diagonal addition to the soul mode, I don't think that's very realistic because for example with the yellow soul, you get an upgraded version of the one from undertale. The ability to charge your shots. The addition of diagonals for green soul mode is more of a downgrade than anything really, being harder to control (especially on keyboard) and adding more you have to keep track of. I think something more realistic for a deltarune green soul is some kinda shield-bounce move that flings a projectile off, destroying other projectiles in its path.
Nice theory! I think that it'd be a good way to further introduce the elemental attack system. One thing to note is that the Spamton q&a response seems to be using alternate names for the elements (ie thunder/light instead of electric/holy): one theory I saw and liked was that dark/star represents hopes/dreams as an elemental pair.
My theory on how the Shadow Crystals work is that they show visions of a world without a Dark World. Susie is still mean, Card Kingdom is just an abandoned classroom, and Cyber City is just an library computer room. This implies that Kris exists because of the Dark Worlds, as they can use it to see through their hand. As for why Jevil and Spamton went insane, imagine some strange man (definitely Gaster) giving you this strange crystal, and when you look through it, you see that your world isn't "real." Seam can purify Shadow Crystals into Pure Crystals. So it's possible Seam's magic can counteract Gaster's magic. As for the Shadow Mantle, I feel like it was the butterfly-like cape Spade King wore. It obscures him in shadow, and it can fly away. Perhaps it's found another host. I feel like the Shadow Mantle will make the Chapter 3 Shadow Crystal boss easier, as Seam has a very pessimistic worldview. Perhaps it will greatly reduce damage taken from the Shadow Crystal boss' attacks. There's also its counterpart in the Sky Mantle, which protects from electric and holy attacks. I have a feeling that it will come in handy in Chapter 4, which is most likely going to have a church-themed Dark World, and its Dark Fountain guarded by the Bishop, the leader of a cult that leads lost souls to enlightenment--via Titan worship.
This is essentially what I think the Shadow Mantle might be too (essentially your theory). I was thinking that it might not be an equippable item but instead something you would use during the secret boss battle (like an item). When used, it would apply the damage reduction to the entire party rather than the mannequin where it would only apply it to one party member. Either way, good job with your first Deltarune theory video. Good luck on the channel! 🤞
for me one of the most interesting things about the shadow mantle is the statement "it's missing". with the Shadow Crystals, they unexpectedly _appear_ again on every save if you have already found them on one. what if there is some kind of weird shortcut puzzle where you have to restart chapter 2 after having got the shadow mantle some special way in order to then actually get it by Seam giving it to you? I'm not sure how that would make sense unless maybe it's torn up when you get it and will have to be repaired
I have a theory that Rouxls Kaard took the King's mantle (like when he took the trash machine from the trash) and you have to defeated him in some silly game to obtain it. Maybe is dumb, but I would find it really funny if it happens.
spamtom neo is actually harder than it seems in my first play through I died to spamtom neo at least 4 times before beating him but with the mannequin I defeated him in my first attempt the Damm teacup ride was actually harder 🤣 so I kinda can see something like that happening in chapter 3 secret boss
You made a major mistake assuming it is an Item/Armor and not letting the possibility it is a Key Item exist. Kris equipping isn't going to help Ralsei or Susie, equipment doesn't work that way. The exception to this is passive effects which to be worth using for this fight would end up being something usable for most of the game or it is a 1v1 fight. In regards to the Green Soul mechanic... the only effect of being Green is you can't move. Undyne gives you a spear to defend yourself with in her fight but it seems she does it out of honor. Blue pulls you to walls, Green locks you in place, Purple locks you on lines. Yellow is the ONLY positive effect. It also has some narrative importance for the player. It would fit with subverting what we know by being Green and not being given a tool to defend ourselves and also make being able to use Yellow's power alone weirder since Kris lacks magic and the Player's Soul can't seem to use magic. If we combine both of your theory and green theory we end up with a 1v1 fight where Kris can't flee being Green, equipping this item causes a reaction when you become Green. It makes it realistic to win as a pacifist otherwise only if you Lost every recruit you could win this fight. This helps with the themes of the game. Freedom and the lack of it. We are in prison and Jevil is free, we are puppets and like Spamton can't escape. We are trapped, we can't escape, we must fight. It flows naturally and since we are told to get the Shadow Mantle who would say no to losing 1 Recruit or all of them? If we can clearly see it and know violence is needed it will be done. A bonus boss of helplessness. Sorry this was a bit long, but to make anything that feels better then "You're wrong" or "You're right" takes time. I do think it is just going to be a key item because otherwise I don't believe Toby Fox will be able to force it without it feeling wrong.
Yeah I’ll be the first to admit that the audio balancing wasn’t perfect here. My Microphone wasn’t the best so most of my time went into balancing the mike Audio, but the background music wasn’t adjusted to fit with this! What tracks do you think are the worst ones? Would be interesting if its an item you use during battle i wonder what would happen if you had to use it but didnt have it so maybe a different outcome?
See there's one problem with you're evidence of the shadow mantle not being needed to beat the 3rd secret boss and that's that if it does make it easier like the mannequin than it is necessary because so far the secret boss have been too hard to beat without special items of somekind except for Jevil he is easy-ish to beat without Top Cake
A few Issues with your theory that the mannequin will be able to substitute the shadow mantle 1 The ch3 Secret boss will most likely use dark/star as an elemental pair rather than puppet/cat, because the Cowboy suit has a star on it and a darkness is the closest thing we have to shadow, so it wouldn’t protect you 2 it would only protect Kris as they’re the only party member that complies with equipping it
They weren’t saying that you could use the mannequin instead of the shadow mantle, they were saying it would serve a similar purpose in chapter 3 to what the mannequin served in chapter 2. The fact that only one party member can equip it does make that theory a little weaker, but it’s also possible that Kris will fight it alone or that it will give a party wide defensive effect.
