i love how every monster hunter game starts with "hey are you a new hunter? go fight this dog-sized lizard!" and ends with "hey no. 1 hunter in the entirety of reality, go fight a literal god"
So, what I am getting from the lore is this: Gaismagorm live most of their lives deep underground, tunneling through the bedrock in search of a nest to call their own. When they sense a significant source of energy, they tear away at the earth above them, forming the telltale craters in which to release the Qurio. In exchange for the Qurio feeding on the blood of monsters, they bring back the bioenergy for Gaismagorm to taste once he calls them back. If the energy is plentiful, then Gaismagorm will fully emerge to establish a permanent home with plenty to eat. However, if the Qurio come back with insufficient energy, then Gaismagorm will move on and continue it's search. The Qurio possess a minor form of the Frenzy because a frenzied monster will release all of it's energy in a maddened craze, thus giving the Qurio plenty of material to bring back to their master. However, much like Gore Magala, the Frenzy has no effect on Elder Dragons and it doesn't work well with humans. Plus, humans lack the nutrients that Qurio prefer, which is why humans are normally safe from them. Of course, based on Tadori's claim, this is a learned behavior rather than instinct, hence the plague. Malzeno feeds on fresh blood, but Gaismagorm threatens it's food supply, hence why they are natural enemies. 50 years prior, the Qurio attacked Malzeno, but became addicted to his blood. This is where Malzeno figured out that, by offering his own blood and energy, the Qurio will be too distracted to feed on much else. With only a single main source of blood and energy, Gaismagorm is tricked into thinking that there isn't much to eat up top, plus Malzeno benefits from the Qurio's Frenzy and makes it his weapon. However, in order to maintain this ruse, Malzeno will need to constantly replenish his body by hunting more frequently than normal. This increased activity is why people believed that Malzeno was responsible for the anomaly when in fact he was just trying to prevent an even greater disaster from emerging. Gaismagorm is likely based off of Satan from the religion of Christianity.
The only thing I see that can be slightly corrected is that the Qurio do not possess a minor form of the Frenzy but rather a Virus similar to it but that's all. Both the Frenzy Virus & the Qurio Virus cause similar effects on monsters, causing them to act berserk or irrational
I love the plot of Monster Hunter games. "Why is nature out of balance?/What's threating the village?" "It's a big bad monster! That's what's causing the problem! Go kill it!" "Alright, we defeated the monster! Oh no! An even bigger monster was the real problem all along!" Almost every time without fail. Love it.
Even Galleus is savvy of it now, since he was fully-prepared for something bigger than Malzeno to show up after that was dealt with. And it paid off, too!
I love the fact that this monster is not even considered a monster or Elder most of the time. Instead, an actual demon from the depths of hell itself! I loved this fight imo.
i love how i predicted that before seeing it for the 1st time, since the 3 lords are based off horror monsters and Malzeno was hyped to be the big bad (which in monster hunter means he's actually just workng for a bigger guy) i went "i bet the final boss is based of satan" which going off the name "demon of the abyss" i think my guess hit the mark dead on
@@Shadox-yv8ms humble beginnings i guess, i mean look at iceborne, you go from "big fish" to "a literal Deva who is so enlightened he can see past reality and see that he is in a game"
I so loved the hunt before this - the complete eery silence, the dead monsters littering the citadel. And then leading into this THING crawling out the pit. Possibly my favourite lead up to a final boss.
I can absolutely agree, i had this horrible sinking feeling in my gut, knowing that Lunagaron was probably the last thing alive in the area, and knowing that if i killed it, i would be doing exactly what the Qurio’s host wanted. And when you finally, begrudgingly, kill the werewolf, there’s no happy fanfare. There’s no victory, no win. Just eerie silence, with nothing but insects and the wind. You haven’t won, you’ve already lost.
That hunt was also probably the hardest for me, given the complete lack of endemic life, even Spiribirds weren't in the area. I wasn't running Spiribird's Call, so I'm not 100% sure if you can still get Spiribirds through that, but still!
@@97dusk There are still spiribirds in the flower patches. I didn't even realize there was no endemic life for a minute. I was so used to the spiribirds that I ran out of camp thinking I'd collected the green one right at the camp's exit.
I love that the Qurio are what connects Gaismagorm to Malzeno. Just like how humans made deals with the devil to become all powerful vampires, Malzeno “makes a deal with the devil” by taking on the Qurio as a host.
@@RR-dh2ub Hence "makes a deal with the devil" being in quotes. Their dynamic is a spin on how vampires were once made, the way it happened was similarly a spin on the deal itself. What's the most natural "deal" animals can make between each other? Symbiosis.
It’s super cool how the “devil” motif finds its way into the theme itself, such as through the spammed tri-tones (often called the devil’s interval) at 1:48 and the fact that most of this theme has 6 beats per measure. Really neat touch.
Yet another 6 is the amount of dragonators used against Gaismagorm. In the cutscene, 1 was deflected and 2 hit including the nuke dragonator. In the fight, the dragonator signal uses 2 dragonators and the phase transition into the deeper level uses a nuke dragonator.
@@maggie6152 I like to think it was a duel reference, as it’s mole like design also makes me think of the star nosed mole, but instead of a nose his mouth forms a star (pentagram)
Legitimately lost my mind laughing when the boss looked as though it opened a portal to hell in phase 2 and started raining meteors. I thought that would be the wildest attack it had, and then it started zooming around on the floor like it was playing Vanquish. Absolutely insane monster and every dev involved with making it deserves a raise.
I love the satisfying dragonator scenes and dude got up after being hit by 2 of them in his opening cutscene, once during battle and then another in his phase 2 scene. I love this monster.
He would've won, were it not for the absolute chad the admiral is, man knew that there was something bigger and got prepared to say hello, the fact that this hellish demon actually survived the most brutal dragonators is actually terrifying
@@leonides1527 If you want to input gameplay mechanic like that, then Safi'jiiva performed worse despite being more or less the same size with Gaismagorm. The guy can be knocked down by a falling boulder at the first level of Secluded Valley, and it have longer a down time compare to Fatalis when gets knocked down by Schrade's dragonators.
Narwa's theme: A beautiful melody that gives you the feeling that you're doing battle with a goddess of the heavens Gaismagorm's theme: "I AM FUCKING PISSED"
A monster based on the the devilish biblical figure of Abaddon the Angel of the Abyss that is said to command a swarm of locusts. Yeah Gaismagorm is INSANE
The first time you see it when it's crawling out of those ruins, you'll probably think "oh that thing doesn't look THAT big". Once you get on ground and are faced up against it though...you realize just how absolutely colossal it really is. Imagine if like Gog it sprouted wings and started flying. Absolutely nightmare fuel.
I theorize that this creature or at least it’s species had wings at some point. One of the materials descriptions says something about it no longer flying through the heavens it once knew or something along those lines
@@unknownnametag6595It's front two arms are its wings, they've just lost the membrane. I think that's what it means when it says 'shows no signs of the divinity it once knew'. It's using its wings as a pair of front legs and its front legs as back legs. It's actual back legs are almost vestigial and it usually just drags them along behind it, only using them to brace itself and stand up during some attacks. It's a really interesting design for an underground creature. Almost reminds me of antlions from half life.
@@unknownnametag6595 well he is based off satan who was a fallen angel (depends on what people believe tbh) so the description fits perfectly. Now I wonder what one would look like if based on an angel lol im sure it would have membranes
yeah for me he looks like a pacific rim kaiju with the colour scheme (mainly the blue mouth) and a skull crawler with the big front arms and monitor lizard like head and long tail
One of the coolest boss fights I’ve ever done. Favorite part was when Fiorayne jumped up and did a shield bash for two thousand damage and proof of a hero started
@@cabildoseanlenard523 so in my gameplay it took the combined efforts of Mikasa and Guts to defeat Gaismagorm? This'll definitely make the list for top anime crossovers
This monster is absolutely amazing. From the design, to the theme, to the lore and what they call it, Gaismagorm is definitely a memorable boss, and one of my favorites at that.
Honestly it may even be my favorite boss fight of all time. Nothing ever gave me the rush of adrenaline and the sheer excitement and awe this fight gave me
This fight was like the better safi fight imo. Similarly structured but had so many more layers and was so much more interesting! Not to mention the ecology cutscene we got! Truly and astounding boss!
I found one thing that makes gaia terrifying is his intelligence. He knows very well how to use those arms, deflecting dragonators, throwing boulders with precision, exploiting other creatures (qurio) to feed himself
@@TruePeaceSeeker ahtal ka's intellegence exceed any animal and monster in monhunt even the intelligence of elder dragons. Fatherfucker not only use tools, but make gundam out of it.
@@whitewingedfox9879 if ahtal ka could thrive more, they could probably develop sentience and make a society. Heck they probably already sentient enough to make tools and shit.
You know, I knew there was a Frontier monster in Sunbreak, *but I am no longer certain that it is Espinas.* This thing is absolutely *MENTAL* in all of the best ways.
I love that this guy and the serpents from base rise have a clear evolutionary relative with the same mouths and back fins, but clearly they diverged and gaismagorm became an underground creature instead of flying
That's what I think too, also my guess as why the serpents are tetrapods is that they lost their third pair of limbs during their evolution and it enabled them to float, since they're lighter. I also think their common ancestor were actually already digging (since Narwha also digs holes but seemingly only to make a nest), but their limbs weren't as developped as Gaismagorm's.
@@nabuchodonosormcgalapatram6941 Fonarwa, I think the 5th and 6th limbs, the ones that would typically be the wings of an elder or the wingarms on gaisma, evolved into the extra large set of tentacles on her back. They are in the correct position as well as being rather large, and still are likely to aid in flight. As for ibushi, maybe the large back windsac is the equivalent? Most typical elders have 4 legs and 2 wings, or have adapted in a way where the wings change to better suit their lifestyle i.e. gaismagorm.
@@FrostyTheCookie It could also be possible. Also the tentacules on the rest of Narwha's body could also have evolved from the same structures that became the feather-like red stuff sprouting on the body of Gaismagorm on the phase two, because these things seem to not be energy coming out of the dragon but delicate structures.
The scariest part about Gaismagolm is that we fight it in a weakened state. It has only just regained control over the parasitic Quiro, who were already weakened due to our fight against Malzeno. Let’s also not forget that it took SERVERAL dragonators to the face before we even fight it and even during the fight as well. Imagine how powerful Gaismagorm could’ve become if it reached the surface or had more time to feed.
Gaismagorm has seriously got to be the most craziest, overpowered, and terrifying final story boss in the entire mainline MH series. I was not expecting him to be THAT massive AT ALL. I was flabbergasted at his size and actually terrified of his modes. The fact he actively seems to be getting stronger as the fight goes on, how much stronger he would have gotten if we didn't immediately stop him, that ult, and that Satan mode, is something I will not forget.
yeah Gaismagorm had some serious frontier vibes but the fight is such a blast to expeierence my first run i was so amped up and terrified at the same time adding in the dark gothic like vibe of his fight theme and you have one hell of an experience def gives demon like vibes too it has the well deserved title of arch demon of the abyss
@@eiriksundby Gog is a little smaller. It might be taller by a meter or so, but it's nowhere as massive as Gaismagorm. Gais is the third largest online final boss, just behind Dalamadur and Dire Miralis.
@@eiriksundby Gaismagorm looks to be slightly larger than Shara Ishvalda in the leaks (2910.91cm) the main issue is how Narwa's model has the same length as Shara but is canonically 3875.05cm long. On the other hand, Gaisma is about 4/3 of Narwa's length so it becomes very confusing to determine his actual size (Gameplay wise vs Leaked model) IMO I'd put Gorm between 3000cm and 5000cm as a safe estimation, but posture of a monster really matters for how large a monster appears on the screen
The lesson from Sunbreak: “the end of one life is the start of another” “friendship is magic” The lesson I got: DO SOME SERIOUS MEGA DEMON DRUGS AND ARMOR DRUGS AND SEND THAT THING BACK TO HELL!!!!
@@Rageouz It's most likely an ancestor/kin of Narwa and Ibushi who has developed to burrow into the ground instead of soaring through the air, much like Akantor and Ukanlos are Flying Wyverns who have developed their wing arms for a life on the ground and lost their ability to fly.
@@Rageouz probably not that closely related. They don't really have anything properly in common if you take your time to look at them. Underdeveloped hind legs are shared between Gais, The Serpents, Dala and the Morahns. At first glance their jaws look similar, but they're very different: 1.Tongue: Gais has a massive toothed tongue. The serpents don't have any tongues. 2.Split Jaws: The Serpents lower jaw has 1 split. Gais has 3. 3.Jaws: The Serpents have an extra set of jaws in their mouth. They have 2 jaws. Gais doesn't. He only has one. And lastly the wings are just too noticeable in Gais. If not enough time has passed for their useless hind legs to disappear, how could the serpent's wings disappear completely without any vestigial remains? Since all three are Elder Dragons they are undoubtedly related as well as to every other Elder Dragon, but Gais seems more closely related to the likes of the Magalas or Valstrax than the Serpents.
He really puts the *monster* in monster hunter. All final bosses up until now have had some semblance of animal like features, even when they are dragons, as all monster hunter creatures do. Not him though. Capcom has made an actual kaiju
I would argue that Zorah Magdaros is also more like a Kaiju that you would see in JP monster movies such as Godzilla franchise and or Ultraman franchise.
@@thatnoctutnallizard4600 If we go based on that criteria, then technically Shara Ishvalda would've pass also. I don't remember any real animal that have matching anatomy or biological inspiration with Shara.
@@meremsolomon4744 well, shara gives off the appearance of a tree with its almost wood like texture. and even at a stretch, things that live underground don't tend to be lookers, such as moles. even the small detail of it keeping its eyes closed since it probably never uses them is at least a tiny bit realistic. the point i'm making is shara has some recognizable elements that your brain sees as natural, even when it isn't. Gaismagorm though is completely alien, from its splitting jaw, to its four arms, to it setting itself on fire and growing demon wings in its appearance. hell even xeno, strange as it is, is still a dragon, which is again, recognizable.
@@meremsolomon4744 sure, pieces of its body can still be traced back to normal animals. The head def gave me monitor lizard vibes. I'm just saying as a whole it gives off demonic vibes other monsters don't. Like just looking at it feels unnatural. And yes, you are right, the splitting jaw is still native to animals, but everything put together makes it feel wrong. Like, moray eels have a second jaw in there that to grab prey, and it feels normal to them, but if you put that in any other animal, it feels wrong. Which is part of why I feel that it doesn't feel like an animal. That's just my opinion though.
I love having the reaction to MH final bosses of "what thee HECK is THAT THING" almost every time without fail His waist armor piece is also a Godsend for my chain crit mixed set
that's pretty much what i was saying for that whole first cutscene. even when we got back and they were talking about the boat i was like "dude, forget the boat, WHAT THE DEVIL WAS THAT"
What a good fight though. It may be slow, but it hits like a truck. And its design omg, we reaaaally feel that Frontier influence there! I'm really happy to see the direction the designers took!!
Ikr like at first I thought we were just getting another narwa like with his body shape and mouth parts but he is unique enough now that I see him as like nothing like narwa he's got his own spin
MH has tons of monsters that are called "Gods" or "Demons", so when they called this the "Arch Demon of the Abyss" I thought, "Ah, this is gonna look rad". Then I saw it and, yeah, no. That's just actually Demon. After Narwa and Ibushi and even Malzeno, I wasn't expecting 4-armed Satan with a vacuum function. And it's big as fuck. Probably my second favorite monster design.

This is the only final boss that has not been spoiled for me since the release of world and I’m extremely happy about that. One of the craziest monsters out there
1:21 its life means your death. It’s success means life’s final breath. Your doom is its desire. As it scorches the world with hellfire. A threat unlike any before or since. All will cower before the Archdemon of the Abyss. ~Scourge of the Kingdom: Gaismagorm~
After fighting a Goddess in Kamura, now the hunter is facing up against an Archdemon I see. Interesting that both big bads of this MH title are fought inside a big underground hole, located at the site of abandoned civilization. With Sunbreak's, or more like Elgado's Proof of a Hero played during the last phase of Gaismagorm slay quest, while Kamura's Proof of a Hero played during the last phase of Narwa the Allmother slay quest. By the way, they added some interesting moves for Narwa the Allmother in Master Rank. As well as making her ultimate attack look more imposing to match with Gaismagorm's. For example, she pulls a total of 9 Dragonators from the ground when she prepares to fire her Sapphire Star instead of 6 Dragonators back in High Rank. You don't have to fight Ibushi first, just straight up goes to the main target. Malzeno also came to help us fight the Allmother to make things spicier, and yes, he is already on powered up state so you can morb with Malzeno to attack the Goddess by using wyvern riding. Imo, they put the emphasize that both Gaismagorm and Narwa the Allmother are equal in power and threat level quite well.
And don't worry for the Wind Serpent Ibushi fans, he also recieved his own Master Rank slay quest and got some noticable changes in terms of moveset aswell. The only thing missing is that there's no Master Rank slay quest for regular Thunder Serpent Narwa.
@@zalomanakbar2350 they both had something to do with the big elder at the end mag the rampage = food (and can show up in the all mother fight) Mal is in a big turf war with gas magala
Allmother and archdemon may be 10 star threat levels, making them just below the level of first class black dragons but I'd love to see them take on alatreon, any fatalis or even dire miralis
@@pilotbt1617 To be fair, I think they could put up a good fight at the very least. Only ones I could see them potentially beating are Black Fatalis or Alatreon, but that's a push tbh.
@@theangrywig3905 No, definitely not. They're definitely similar in concept, but in terms of species? Completely different. This is an elder dragon, like lots of other elder dragons it has 6 limbs, but his two upper ones that would normally be wings evolved into extremely powerful arms instead, kinda like Shagaru but without the wing membranes. Akantor and Ukanlos are pseudo flying wyverns, related to the likes of Tigrex and Barioth, in fact they have four limbs and the front ones used to have wing membranes, again, much like Tigrex.
Considering the overall shape (minus the two more limbs), the weird mouth, and the fact that it is a subterranean dragon, I can see Gaismagorm be phylogenetically related to the serpents gods dragons of base Rise. Like, the serpents could have diverged from a fossorial common ancestor a long, long time ago, lost the two other limbs, becoming lighter in the process, and took to the skies with their strange way of being airborne, only digging when it's time to breed (maybe that's why their front limbs are still functional). Meanwhile, the archdemon kept a subterranean lifestyle, evolved stronger limbs to be more efficient at digging and developped a symbiotic relationship with the Qurios, or those things could be its larval stage, I mean, it was stated in the game that it's a symbiotic relationship (and I tend to think it's the case), but maybe this detail was inaccurate on purpose.
When I commented on the trailer that "this is some Godzilla level cliffhangers." I didn't expected to fight a literal Godzilla like monster with a killer theme.
The demon whose strength came from its minions, Qurio, that have gathered plentiful of life energy which they absorbed / stolen from the monsters of Elgado region. As without them, Gaismagorm wouldn't have been this powerful and very likely only get as strong as the 1st phase of his slay quest. The parallel example should be like a Zinogre who does not have enough number of Fulgur bugs on its body to be able to enter the infamous supercharged state. Similarly, Thunder Serpent Narwa would have not been able to ascend to a new level of 'Divinity', without the act of Wind Serpent Ibushi willingly sacrificing himself to give a massive boost of power for his partner by letting Narwa absorbing his own life energy which killed him in the process. In short, both of the big bads of this MH title are dependant on something in order for them to get at the peak of their power and stay in a good shape. Which reminds me of Safi'jiiva who does Heavily relies on bioenergy stock from the veins of the land to keep itself at full strength and heal its injuries.
interesting that the “antagonist” monsters gain energy from subjugation, while in contrast the kamura and elgado hunters gain their strength from collaboration and cohabitation
You can also see this with MHST2's final boss, Oltura, which absorbs whole monsters, and essentially the whole world if we didn't stop it, just to be able to live. It was like a boosted Safi too.
@@ZetsubouGintama He only did that for his own sick amusement. Gaismagorm, Narwa, and Oltura are reliant on something to keep themselves at peak power (The Qurio, Rampage, and Kinship) but Fatalis stays at his peak without anything to lean on.
@@Konh-Minh Fatalis is power incarnate and the strongest in the series. Iceborne made that clear when even other black dragons (Alatreon) refuse to fight it.
I think it helps that the plots also usually stick something super recognizable right before it, malzeno is "vampire dragon" and you can comprehend that, nergi is a spiky dragon but shara and xeno are both "WHAT THE FUCK" It primes you with the familiar so you can be blown away by the alien
Fighting big, powerful and terrifying monsters like this is the pinnacle of Monster Hunter. The portable team did another magnificent job displaying their craziness in delivering colossal hunts.
@𝕸𝖗. 𝕾𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖘𝖊𝖊𝖗 I was hoping capcom would make a demon element elder dragon one day, I mean Demondrug, powercharm, demon mode with dual blades. That power has to come from somewhere,. I'm happy with Gais actually, may not be confirmed but his crystals would explain our hunters borrowing that power :)
Holy crap, this guy's fight. It was...amazing. Not as hard as Allmother Narwa's, though. It was easier because he's so slow, and his attacks are very easy to see coming. But wow, it blows her out of the water in everything except the music in terms of pure spectacle. From its red crystal meteor shower to its massive red energy balls to its super-mega-ultra-death-beam, it's pretty much Frontier-level spectacle now. As for overall power, this guy has GOT to be a Black Dragon-tier threat. I mean, he can make a gigantic crater, send out vampiric Khezu/moth crosses (that may or may not be his larval form) to gather blood and energy for miles around, and his sheer resilience on top of that.
@@kingofflames738 If you mean by the "strongest incarnation of dragonators" are the exploding ones used against Gaismagorm (which hit the Elder Dragon twice), then that title belongs to what the Commander used back in MH World to repel Zorah Magdaros merely because of the sheer size of it, and it works like a spear that have a rotating drill instead of rocket so it can penetrate the monster's hide more effectively at least at close range.
@@RustyhairedAlp9575 I mean technically that´s every Monster Hunter plot so far. The most creative plot yet was in Tri where you had to break a beasts horn cause it was growing weird, cauring it pain making MH Tri basically just another Hoof GP video.
You know shit's about to go down when this guy causes a meteor rain when Only Crimson Fatalis has done that in the past and that's not even it's super move
The sheer symbolism across this monster is astound, allow me to list all that I’ve found: It has six limbs, six horns (two pairs on its head, one pair on its back) , and its mouth forms a six pointed star (if you include the roof of the mouth) when opened. As we all know, 666 is regarded by many as the ‘mark of the beast’. Its horns are spiraled and thick like a goat’s, an animal often associated with the devil, and it’s head is shaped like a serpent. In the story of Adam and Eve, Lucifer takes the form of a serpent in order to trick Eve into eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Its theme is *filled* with tri-tones, which were often regarded as satanic in medieval European music. (See 1:45-1:48) It lives in a massive pit and throughout the fight is driven back deeper in. In biblical myth, Satan exists in/will be cast into hell during judgement day, which in Dante’s Inferno is depicted as a multilayered abyss. This one is a bit of a stretch, but I have to say it nonetheless: It feeds by sucking in qurio and swallowing them whole. In many renaissance paintings, Hell is depicted as a large mouth that swallows people whole. The qurio drain the blood and life-essence from monsters, and are supplementarily fed upon by Gaismagorm. In some technical sense, Gaismagorm swallows whole the very souls of the monsters its Qurio kill, like hell itself swallowing the damned.
I'm gonna be brutally honest; I had to take a ten minute break because I was close to fainting irl while fighting him. Everything from the over the top attacks to even the setup with that Lunagaron hunt beforehand had me goddamned woozy. The best part? *I beat him on my first try.*
Here's my experience: -Dual Blades, Malzeno Set, Evade Extenders -Phase 1 has me already anxious -I dodge his first special attack which gives me flashbacks to Ecliptic Meteor -Phase 2 Begins and I begin to panic - "Supply drop Ballista incoming!" -Tv Tropes: Fantastic Nuke -I begin to scream -I dodge the second Nuke doing everything I can to survive -Fiorayne Interrupts the third Nuke -BGM override: Proof of a Hero -"LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!" -"I'm going to lie down for a bit..." -"FIO!!!" -Final blow to his arm arteries with only a single potion left -"FUCK YEAH! I DID IT!" -Nearly collapse from accumulated stress Monster hunter isn't a game, it's an experience.
Same! I had fainted twice, it was down to under 10 mins, I was considering leaving and trying again until I saw the blue Z's around his icon indicating he was weakened. I gave it one last go, and when I was below half health, we both prepared our attacks. Whoever made the next hit would be the victor. I beat him to the punch with one final rage slash, fully expecting to fail, but not without one last hit. That last hit did him in and put him down. Anyone know how to continuously record on a switch even after letting go of the button? Because my god that was such a missed opportunity to record
I noticed, Gaismagorm is the same as Ibushi and Narwa, but where they rule the heavens, he rules Hell. But all 3 wanted to destroy the earth for their own purposes. Ibushi and Narwa through purifying wind and thunder, Gaismagorm through blight and frenzy.
The scariest part for me is how similar it’s skeleton is to Shara Ishvalda, which suggests an evolutionary link between large, subterranean elder dragons
@@namealreadytaken7116 I think Gaismagorm uses Gogmazios skeleton, which is very similar to the ones you mentioned but uses the wingarms to support its walking (basically like Gore Magala in its Frenzied State and Shagaru Magala).
So in the end we have Malzeno, a vampiric elder dragon, Garangolm, wich appearance can be compared to Frankenstein’s monster, Lunagaron, a beast that functions similarly to a werewolf, Gore Magala, like if it was a necromancer its frenzy virus seemingly can resurrect other monster from a coma only to blindly attack other creatures, then Shagaru Magala, transformed from the dark powers of the frenzy like a lich and now Gaismagorm, an elder dragon referred to as a demon of the abyss and using hellish blast attacks… Who couldve known Capcom would release a halloween expansion so many months before October?
Garangolm is described to be a very docile creature that barely if not never is a threat unless REALLY provoked, something that is very reminiscent of the classic Frankenstein monster which actually never was bad or had any villainous intentions, it was the doctor that created it. Still, just wanted to share some light in this Halloween monster inspiration
I think this Demon is one of my new favourite fights! This thing looks absolutely AMAZING, TERRIFYING AND SCARY at the same time!!! The music in this, absolutely amazing!!! Everyone who worked on this deserves a huge love praise!
I remember when Sunbreak came out and I was living in a shitty situation. A drug house with barely any to my name besides a switch. I played the fuck out of Sunbreak to keep me distracted from the endless misery. I remember feeling like such a hero when I beat Gaismagorm solo. It was nice. I dunno I’m rambling rn but it’s just nice to think about the fight again.
I saw a post of someone explaining the possible inspiration: In the post this person explained how the name Gaismagorm and the tittle "Archdemon of the abbys" both have several connetions with the names of different demons. So Gaismagorm its based in the Devil. Which would explain its relation with Malzeno, since it is said in some stories that the Dracula got his power by making a deal with the Devil
The Devil himself. Its title "Archdemon of the Abyss" Gives it away & the Yawning Abyss resembles a literal hellhole. Malzeno even draw it out like demonic cults summon the Devil.

This thing literally crawled out of hell itself to lay waste to the world … the cutscene where galleus and the people Of elgado basically sent it back to hell..urging you on to challenge the Archdemon in his own turf was like descending to the 9th layer to face off against satan himself in monster form…Gaismagorm is one of the single best designs for an elder dragon I have EVER SEEN…
@@themonsterhuntertgamer8930 It may be dramatically referred to as a “Demon” or a “Fairy tail” a lot in-game, but let’s not forget that Gais is still just a monster. And monsters are all just highly developed animals.
If Malzeno and Gaismagorm was able to communicate with our hunter(At least how I see it): Malzeno's first appearance before he strikes Fiorayne: "It somewhat pains me to do this to you humans, but this is the only way I can prevent you all from bringing about our doom." Rematch with Malzeno while he's near death: "I'm doing this to ensure that our world survives! You think I'm trying to destroy you, when in reality I trying to save your lives!" Malzeno's dying words: "You fools have made a grave mistake.......you've doomed us all......" Gaismagorm when he meets the hunter and Fiorayne: "So You two are the fools that slayed your protector? I must thank you. However, do you truly think you can defeat me?" Gaismagorm after he transforms: "I WILL NOT ALLOW MY CENTURIES OF WAITING UNDERGROUND BECAUSE OF THAT NUISANCE TO GO TO WAIST! YOU PATHETIC CREATURES DIE HERE!" Gaismagorm upon his death: "When did this world..........gain such champions......?"
Errr I wouldn’t call Malzeno a “protector” when it deliberately was destroying towns and murdering the innocent (even children and such) just to keep feeding the Qurio in a sadistic exchange of power, but you do you
@@johncronk8867 Judging from the first comment wording, I think he was saying that Malzeno was helping Gaismagorm spread the Qurios, so it would not say it was a nuisance (hence why the other user answered by saying that he was speaking in a context where Gaismagorm sees Malzeno as a road block.
y'know after i first fought Malzeno, i was thinking over everything i was told about it in game, as well as the crater next to the outpost. a single sentence kept recurring in my head: "Malzeno's plenty tough, but i don't know if it was big enough to open up a hole like that." turns out i was right haha
As someone who played through the stories of World/Iceborne and now Rise/Sunbreak, i happened to notice a minor similarity in the eyes between Shara Ishvalda and Gaismagorm, which leads me to believe there’s a possible world deep below the surface where these beasts can be found, and while they are vastly different in theme, design, and skillset, i would honestly love to see more beasts like these coming from deep below the surface of the MH realm. And this monster is by far my absolute favorite Elder Dragon just from fighting him
I was already intrigued when the game tells you that the Qurio virus is a version of Frenzy, in the same DLC that Goremy and Shagaru make their return. But then I saw this guy climb the wall and got a good look at the shape of it's middle two limbs. This bad boy is another ???? Has to be my favorite final boss. I think it might even have Shara Ishvalda beat for being absolutely terrifying- the quest and cutscenes leading up to his fight had my jaw-dropping and were so unsettling. And, an excellent theme befitting of a demon!

Amen to that. Got spoiled over Rise’s Allmother, and was scared since I wanted to play this expansion by my own accord, but was scared of spoiling myself. Fortunately, that didn’t happen.
This monster's design is very well done. Of course the demonic appearance given by the fringehead-fish-like mouth, twisted horns and fire, are the things that define the fact that it's the cause of all trouble in the Reign but if you look at its anatomy, you'll see that (my interpretation) it's a very ancient or at least specialized Elder Dragon. It's got six limbs, two smaller front for stabilizing, two reduced hind as they are probably not used very much and two enlarged front to dig. Now, the two larger ones are the most intriguing and made me question some speculative evolution: were they specialized wings turned into hands or are they limbs that never became wings? These details are awesome and encourage players to further explore the videogame.
The digging limbs are referred to in-game as “wing arms”, so they evolved from wings. If you look closely you can even see that the wing arms seem to be coming out of its back, just as it’s ancestor’s wings.
When you see Gais in the cutscene: Small Dragonators, huh? Must be so they can launch them. Makes sense, I guess. LET'S FIGHT THIS THING! When you see Gais in front of you: SWEET MONSTER OF GOD, YOU ARE TITANIC!!!
Never have I EVER seen wings as large as this dude's wingarms and when they show off their flames, when at full power look look as if those are it's true wings, and they are MASSIVE Gogmazios may have some competition in largest wings lol

@@bug1gub225 well... Its not as absurd as any RPG games out there, so it works well to me.
They didn't call me kratos for nothing
So, what I am getting from the lore is this:
Gaismagorm live most of their lives deep underground, tunneling through the bedrock in search of a nest to call their own.
Gaismagorm is likely based off of Satan from the religion of Christianity.
that was nicely done dood
Man so hunters (mainly the guild) messed up again huh?
Brilliant!
The only thing I see that can be slightly corrected is that the Qurio do not possess a minor form of the Frenzy but rather a Virus similar to it but that's all. Both the Frenzy Virus & the Qurio Virus cause similar effects on monsters, causing them to act berserk or irrational

I also think their common ancestor were actually already digging (since Narwha also digs holes but seemingly only to make a nest), but their limbs weren't as developped as Gaismagorm's.

Abbadon, the demon of the Abyss, also had a swarm of carnivorous locusts at their beck and call. I think that fits the Qurio pretty well.
@@johncronk8867 That fits perfectly, if I remember correctly Abbadon also was a fallen angel and called "The Deep One", Abbadon fits perfectly with everything about Gaismagorm and his Qurio.

The best themes in monster hunter are the ones which put pressure on you to succeed. Cause if you don’t, then total destruction will ensue.
1:21 its life means your death. It’s success means life’s final breath. Your doom is its desire. As it scorches the world with hellfire. A threat unlike any before or since. All will cower before the Archdemon of the Abyss.
~Scourge of the Kingdom: Gaismagorm~
@@htfs493 if anything we're lucky fatalis didn't destroy the world like he did with the ancient civilization during the dragon War
I'm trying to think if there's any correlation between Magnamalo and Malzeno, and I can't think of anything

This thing has a roar strong enough to send hunters flying while they’re no where near it
I noticed it has a design similar to Akantor and Ukanlos with its big claws. Also the roar does damage. Wonder if they're related
@@theangrywig3905 he does kinda move around like them
@@theangrywig3905 No, definitely not.
@@nabuchodonosormcgalapatram6941 i highly doubt that
I love Allmother but this oozes Final Boss energy harder than anything else in Rise
This theme I like how it sounds it fits with the monster
Insane fight, loved every second of it. This may actually be one of my favorite boss fights in general.
When I commented on the trailer that "this is some Godzilla level cliffhangers." I didn't expected to fight a literal Godzilla like monster with a killer theme.
Me emerging from my room to get a snack at 3:00 AM
What about Fatlis?
Hunter corpse?
@@ZetsubouGintama He only did that for his own sick amusement. Gaismagorm, Narwa, and Oltura are reliant on something to keep themselves at peak power (The Qurio, Rampage, and Kinship) but Fatalis stays at his peak without anything to lean on.

Monster hunter final bosses really have a tendency of making the players go “what the genuine fuck is THAT” without fail

@@Amatsu_storm_approach from what I know Gais is the same tier as Allmother and Probably Safi'jiva, so about right below black dragon level
Not count Black Dragon, but DAMN close. He could likely give monsters like Gogmazios Narwa and Shara one hell of fight; even win.
If it wasn’t for Malzeno’s interference, this guy probably would be a black dragon
I wouldn't say black dragon but definitely around the top tier of elders like Dala, Amatsu and Safi
Dude's got hit by probably the strongest incarnation of dragonators 4 times and and just slapping one away too.

You know shit's about to go down when this guy causes a meteor rain when Only Crimson Fatalis has done that in the past and that's not even it's super move
This theme and this monster just screams “death is inevitable”
The sheer symbolism across this monster is astound, allow me to list all that I’ve found:
It has six limbs, six horns (two pairs on its head, one pair on its back) , and its mouth forms a six pointed star (if you include the roof of the mouth) when opened.
(See 1:45-1:48)
It lives in a massive pit and throughout the fight is driven back deeper in. In biblical myth, Satan exists in/will be cast into hell during judgement day, which in Dante’s Inferno is depicted as a multilayered abyss.
This one is a bit of a stretch, but I have to say it nonetheless:
It feeds by sucking in qurio and swallowing them whole.
Plus, if you ignore the front of it's arms, looking at him from the angle in which he is depicted in the video, he kind of looks like a pentagram
I'm gonna be brutally honest; I had to take a ten minute break because I was close to fainting irl while fighting him.
Everything from the over the top attacks to even the setup with that Lunagaron hunt beforehand had me goddamned woozy.
The best part? *I beat him on my first try.*
Dude same here. Five minutes left and I went into a panicked attack frenzy
Here's my experience:
-Dual Blades, Malzeno Set, Evade Extenders
-Phase 1 has me already anxious
-I dodge his first special attack which gives me flashbacks to Ecliptic Meteor
-Phase 2 Begins and I begin to panic
- "Supply drop Ballista incoming!"
-Tv Tropes: Fantastic Nuke
-I begin to scream
-I dodge the second Nuke doing everything I can to survive
-Fiorayne Interrupts the third Nuke
-BGM override: Proof of a Hero
-"LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!"
-"I'm going to lie down for a bit..."
-"FIO!!!"
-Final blow to his arm arteries with only a single potion left
-"FUCK YEAH! I DID IT!"
-Nearly collapse from accumulated stress
Monster hunter isn't a game, it's an experience.
same it was almost releif to see him fall dead.
His theme is menacing and devilish. Awesome! You can feel the fear in it.
The fight before this combined with the cutscene made this one of the best final boss build-ups I’ve ever seen in a video game
The scariest part for me is how similar it’s skeleton is to Shara Ishvalda, which suggests an evolutionary link between large, subterranean elder dragons
Funny thing is after it dies if you look closely his corpse eyes will follow the camera, just like shara.
He’s using the gore magala skeleton same with shara, valstrax, nergigante and more.
@@namealreadytaken7116 I think Gaismagorm uses Gogmazios skeleton, which is very similar to the ones you mentioned but uses the wingarms to support its walking (basically like Gore Magala in its Frenzied State and Shagaru Magala).

So in the end we have Malzeno, a vampiric elder dragon, Garangolm, wich appearance can be compared to Frankenstein’s monster, Lunagaron, a beast that functions similarly to a werewolf, Gore Magala, like if it was a necromancer its frenzy virus seemingly can resurrect other monster from a coma only to blindly attack other creatures, then Shagaru Magala, transformed from the dark powers of the frenzy like a lich and now Gaismagorm, an elder dragon referred to as a demon of the abyss and using hellish blast attacks…

And this monster is by far my absolute favorite Elder Dragon just from fighting him
Capcom really said "F*ck it" and put a literal demon as the final boss.

Funny how it resembles Gogmazios then.
I believe the hind limbs are used to prop itself up when it roars at you or when when it's having a tantrum.
The digging limbs are referred to in-game as “wing arms”, so they evolved from wings.
If you look closely you can even see that the wing arms seem to be coming out of its back, just as it’s ancestor’s wings.
