In an over simplified way Mizu uses her strength through literal force using the blade to speak While Akemi uses her wits and words to cut through her opponents and her life
Akemi and Taigen had such incredible development over this series. I went from being annoyed every time she was on screen to being just as enamored with her as Ringo when he called her the bravest princess. She really stepped up when it counted and found the strength to fight for her freedom and be great.
Yes exactly! I immediately wrote her off as the extra I wouldn’t be interested in at all. She blossomed into a dynamic character that I wanted more scenes of.
She's probably one of the best realistical strong female characters. She is feminine, has no fighting skills to take men in combat and yet she is mentally strong and learns to adapt to the situation she is in. Complete opposite of Mizu.
A strong independent woman with realistic problems, sometimes even relatable problems. Not everyone is a princess but a lot of people do have others telling them "what is best for you". And she wasn't "Perfect" nor able to solve her problems instantly. There was struggle and she was respected for every moment she decided to persevere. I really enjoy how she truly does decide what she wants and doesn't let anyone tell her otherwise.
The actress behind this great character is Brenda Song, who also voiced Anne Buonchoy (sorry if I have spelt that incorrectly), from Amphibia. It is so cool to see her range between the two shows 😊
One thing i realized about Akemi whole journey is that to be a proper great leader she actually has to know the suffering of her people and how she'd fix that. That's what the whole purpose of Akemi running away journey is about. She has heard about how women are treated and how they have to survive by being prostitutes either willingly or forced to be one. But she has never actually seen and experienced that herself. And so by going on that journey from town to town and working at the brothel, at madame kaji nonetheless where the women would do freaky fetishes play, it humbles her as someone with a status and empowers her as a woman to make Japan a better place for women.
I like the surface similarities between princess akemi and london tipton (both played by brenda song) theyre both rich asian girls with hearts of gold, questionable relationships with their biological father and a male caretaker who basically raised them. I loved london tipton on zack and cody growing up and now im in love with princess akemi from blue eye samurai as an adult
Akemi is such an amazing character and fought so hard to get her freedom!! I can’t wait to see her in season 2!! This is going to be my new favorite series!!🩵🩵🩵
Right, at that moment I get pissed at her, like woman you tried to kill Mizu and she saved your life, she owes you nothing and you have proven that can't survive on your own, it's ypur fatjer who is taking you not a kidnnaper.
I mean Akemi might've saved her life too earlier when Mizu was pinned down by one of the tiger claws and then Akemi even tried to wake her up when Mizu was passed out on the ground, so it's still a pretty dick move for Mizu to leave Akemi hanging like that.
@@dakotanelson8523 In which she also tries to poison and backstab Mizu beforehand. Mizu was entirely right about Akemi being taken away by her own family was the best option for everyone. Akemi going on a journey with Mizu would only expose Akemi to more danger and Akemi would be a liability to Mizu more often than not. And no matter what Mizu does at that point, either to take Akemi and ran away, or to take down those guards, would be foolish and suicidal of Mizu because then she would be waging more war with one of the most influential man in Japan that is Akemi father and his army, in which she's already facing one if not the most powerful man in Japan at the time that is Heiji Shindo and Abijah Fowler. It's a lose-lose situation in any sort of way if Mizu decides to help Akemi.
And Akemi tried to murder her the previous night! Just because Mizu saved her from that one claw-thug doesn’t mean that Mizu is on her side! Also, yeah, Mizu just got done fighting killing 20-30 guys in probably an hour or less. She’s too tired to help with the samurai who just showed up.
I think Akemi's heart is darker that Mizu's. She suffered great, but Mizu suffered much, much more. It's just Akemi looks like a beautiful princess, and Mizu like a warrior. But they are both young women... just, Akemi is ambitious, whereas Mizu is desperate. No one ever told her she had any right to aspire to greatness.
It’s completely intended to be a dick move, because the mom hates akemi. She arranged for the bird to be cooked and set it up as if her son was the one who asked it to be cooked

Really love that this is Brenda Song from our childhoods. Thought she was so funny in Suite Life but of course her character is brainless. This role is almost symbolic as we have another princess going from spoiled though oppressed to ambitious and cunning. And Brenda does the tones so well! Can’t wait for her and everyone else in season 2- fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
That’s the point. When madame Kaji said this at the end of the series. “Stop running to and from men and decide what you want for your F-ing self” even the characters in the show could see her indecisiveness 🤣
its her first time stepping into the real world without someone telling her what to do, its natural that shes not going to know what she wants at first
Is not wanting to be beat by someone you’re being forced to live your entire with entitled? What part of her requests were entitled to you? Think the entitled moment she had was expecting Mizu to help her
I see a lot of people saying she only cares for herself, and I really don't get that. (Not in these comments, but on different reddit threads) She's obviously just surviving with the tools she was given.
Hold on. Media giving us a strong female character who's not just given masculine traditionally masculine traits? Actually showing how traditional ideas of femininity isn't degrading while also acknowledging it isn't the only way a woman can be strong?
There are many characters here are ancient Chinese. Including clothes and hair accessories. Some men's hairstyles are also Chinese. And the real ancient Japanese are bald above their heads.
The guy's mother manipulated her into hating her son by doing very gross pranks in his name, so she was very much on edge around him, leading to a few outbursts. They end up together though.
No it’s not if she was a Mary sue and this show isn’t a Mary sue flick this is a good show with amazing female strength and definitely far from the other “I’m super strong and not like other girls” type of shows or movies
I love show's portrayal of two very different women being equally brave in their own way.
And badass

Honestly if Netflix continues with Blue Eye Samurai, then hopefully we get to see Akemi's progress and such.😙👍

She lost some points with me when she slapped the other guy. Using violence it's horrible, for me.

I love how Akemi is so different from the typical female princess trope. She straight up kills a dude and is never bothered by it afterward xD
Yep light work
@Joe-gw9whShe always had her priorities! Her goal was to keep the girls safe & she didn’t GAF who she had to kill for that to happen
She's probably one of the best realistical strong female characters. She is feminine, has no fighting skills to take men in combat and yet she is mentally strong and learns to adapt to the situation she is in. Complete opposite of Mizu.
Akemi doubled Ringo's killcount
Akemi is such a great character. You cant help but really support her during her weakest and strongest moments.
I actually glad that she didn't run away with Taigen. I want to see this girl rule
THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE A STRONG, INDEPENDENT WOMAN! I am glad she let HERSELF decide what SHE wanted and didn't do what everyone else told her to do.
