  • Come along with me as I swap out a leaking disposal. I will show you all the major steps in the swap without needing to make this into a "how to" video.
    This was creating a potential SHOCK/FIRE HAZARD since the leak was allowing water inside the Romex wire. When I disconnected the wiring, I poured water out and had to dry it before I could reassemble.
    Great little job that takes less than 20 minutes if I don't film it and earns around $200 before the service call fee.

      Thanks for commenting Kenny! I do love service calls that get people back up and runnin' and yep......her dishes were the first thing she did as I was packing up my tools. You are clairvoyant!

    Great video, great install but I can’t understand why anyone would want to put all that trash into their sewer we had a home built in 2021 which of cause came with a garbage disposal reading the manufactures(Moen)instructions I was overwhelmed with what not to put into the disposal
    No eggshells, bones, grease, potato/fruit peels, pasta or rice, banana skins, oatmeal, etc so by the time you figure out what you can put in you might as well just put it into the garbage. The problem we have even though we don’t use it we still need run it at least once a week or it will seize.

      Howdy Pit! Thanks for commenting. You are entirely on point with disposals. I have heard little good and much bad about the effect disposals have on drain plumbing. I will confess to never reading the instructions so diligently as to know what not to put down one (just used some form of community memory about what I have heard not to do....). This being said, the Mrs. wanted one in our new addition kitchen so I installed one. We use it for small stuff and it is not a real go-to for most trash disposal. We tend to through that stuff away and not worry about the disposal option.

    Hey Spence! I keep wanting to ask you, but I never seem to remember to, what do you use to keep your paper towel roll on the back of your trailer from unraveling? It looks like you have a strap of velcro wrapped around it. Is that the Fastcap "FastWrap" velcro? I just got an email that they have a roll of it on sale for father's day, so I figured I would check with you and see what you are using.

      Hi Russ! I just use a strip of velcro I took off a 10ft(?) roll I bought at HD in the velcro section. It is more like a cloth than vinyl and a little thicker. I like this kind a lot and am rarely without a roll in the trailer in the second hardware drawer.

    Great video, thank you. Did I miss it or did you share how much you charge to swap out a disposal like this?

      Thanks Rob for commenting! I will charge a $100 service call since it needed to be done that night or the tenant would either not be able to use her sink or dishwasher or...she would have to continuously empty the bucket. After the SC charge, I will charge $200 for the swap since it was hardwired and not a plugged unit (although, in this case, there was no recep under the sink so either way I would have had to charge for the extra electrical work.

      @@sdsconstructionthank you. And that does not include the new disposal, correct?

    • @sdsconstruction
      @sdsconstruction  Місяць тому

      @WatchRob disposal was charged directly to owners account at the local hardware so my charges are labor only
