- Mastodon Live 4K FULL CONCERT in San Diego plus Review filmed at Pechanga Arena
Mastodon hit the stage and performed in front of giant screens like silhouettes. It was very artistic and the crowd was roaring and singing along. The energy was high for the Grammy winning rock band. I was impressed it was the first time I have seen them live they are very much a grooving jam band where the songs flow right into one another. Brent, Brann, Bill and Troy all sang GREAT! I really wanted to see Sultan's Curse and Show Yourself but it's cool I still had a great time.
Mastodon charged onto stage ready to perform, pose, and produce a good show. Mastodon galloped into something heavy right out of the gates by playing Pain with an Anchor to set the mood. The guts and groove of the riffs provided by Brent Hinds and Bill Kelliher cascaded warmly over the rowdy crowd. Psychedelic visuals combined with overdriven guitars meshed with the heavy hum of Troy Sanders’ bass boomed out into the theatre like cannons. Their instrumental piece ‘Bladecatcher’ showed off how varied and zealous yet compelling each member’s skill level is. Main vocalists Sanders and Brann Dailor each wailed in a way that brimmed with angst and heart on numbers like ‘Megalodon’ and ‘Pushing the Tides’. This act is unique in the fact that each member takes turns crooning into the mic and each one is actually a thought provoking, introspective, and articulate presenter of sound.
Go see them Live if you get a chance!

Thanks!
My hats off to any drummer who can play drums like that and sing like that . Listen to those fills while he sings. Amazing !
No kidding Steve he is amazing!
Decided to watch Motherload afer listening to these guys for 4 months...COULDN'T BELIEVE it was the drummer singing lead!
Check out Dino on Journey's "Mother, Father" live...
Saw Mastadon in Albuquerque…fantastic show….same set list basically
Brann is one of a kind
This band is definitely at the forefront of modern heavy metal and constantly breaking boundaries! Just great!
Couldn't agree more!
The drummer of this band is one of the most talented musicians alive.
Damn right.
Hummm Martin Lopez is way on another level.
I finished their making of hushed and grim, the producer actually asked him to dial his drumming down a bit to help draw more listeners in. Hearing crack the skye was what made me love this band. And I doubt he was dialing down then.
I'm a drummer and he's my top 3. Iv been saying this and every one is like...ehh yeah..ehh.... like are u kidding me!!
He's the only jamband metal guy I can think of in leagues of epic
I cannot grasp in my mind the amount of talent and craftmanship this band has... All of them are masters of their own instrument, including vocals.
Mastodon are definitely the future classic. People just dont get it yet
They've worked so damn hard on replicating their songs live, its fucking awesome and inspiring to see/hear!
It's not easy!
It brings me to tears to see Brann this happy... singing and playing in a solid way. I love Mastodon. I love music. There is no creation that beats music in this world!
He is amazing
@@LiveRockMusic YES
Yeah bro music is the highest art form so visceral
There is no more powerful form of communication!
he always been this way!??
That ending to "Pain With An Anchor" might just be the most emotionally crushing thing they've written. SO heavy in every sense.
Man I wish they could get an active crowd for once
Just saw these guys with Gojira and Lorna shore in Asheville. The bands nor crowd didn’t disappoint!
In Brazil (november, 2023), we made them justice!
They have evolved so much over their career and all for the better. And they've become so tight live, especially with the vocals since the Hunter album. Brann is amazing with the singing he needs to do while drumming.
Brann is amazing!
I met Brent when he was a roadie for DaxxRiggs original band Acid Bath in PCB, Fl.
@@kevinburnes3216 brent was a roadie for acid bath?!?!?! It sort of makes sense actually lol
no, it's not, after 2'nd album they started play prog., not sludge, which very sadly
Vim aqui só por causa do Rasta. kkk
Thanks for posting this, Mastodon really kicked it the last half of the show for sure! Wish I had been there.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for uploading this show!
Brent's vocals on The Czar sound killer! Thanks for the upload.
It was so awesome that they played this 10 minute epic!
You are very welcome
they deserve a better crowd for sure
yup
im from LA
ive seen them at the Palladium a couple times. Very intimate venue very devout fans. Great energy, great moshing. I went to the San Diego show in May. Great performance to a lame audience.
@@fernandocastillo9786 yeah, San Diego is normally a boring crowd
What an absolute fantastic band...still amazed
Alá o Rasta!
What a great video! Thanks for posting it.
Dude WHAT WAS THIS what a show! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Got to meet Mastodon a few years ago at a meet and greet before a show and they were the nicest guys in the world.
You’re awesome, thanks for posting this
Glad you enjoyed it!
23:30 Teardrinker
This song is so powerful. Top song off the new album. I can't begin to grasp how someone can drum and sing so well at the same time.
Acoustic version is phenomenal too...
@@nowwhatnotnowglad someone appreciates the acoustic version too, it sounds so raw and i love that about it
Brann Dailor is the reason that I learned to play the drums, he is by far the greatest drummer I have ever heard, all of them are fantastic and their music just makes any boring or frustrating situation bearable, I hope that they never stop making awesome music.
Also, this crowd is really lame
One of the best live acts out there! Didn't know they have a 5th member now. Great video dude!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
That's not a permanent, 'official' member - he only tours with them to enhance the sound with samples and keyboards when needed.
I just saw these guys live an hour ago, it was insane
Awesome vif thanks for the content!
You are very welcome!
When people see a GREAT band live they are still. Paying full attention, mesmerized. I have also seen it with The Warning (its hard rock but good).
Thank you so much for posting the San Diego Mastadon show! It was my first time seeing them live too and I was also very impressed!
thank you for sharing this. cheers from brazil
o tecladista é brasileiro!!
wow what an exciting crowd
Masters at their craft🎉
Thanks for the upload great work filming bro 😎
Thanks!
Bro....they've been around a long time....they are so kick ass live and are cool a/f,and you got MorherPuncher!!!
Great review and video! Sound A+🤘
Thanks
@@LiveRockMusic Love what you do!!! It Allows fans a view of what some are unable to see.🤘
They remind me of what RUSH and DREAM THEATER became in the music landscape of old. Even the crowd... older guys, everyone just watching the instrumentation, like students in a master class. 👍🏻👍🏻
best setlist
Good sound
Thanks for upload vdo
I am seeing them sept 16th in Montreal cant wait!!!!!!!
Mastodon rules, saw them with opeth last November and it was fantastic. Shout out Brann for being a god, best singer/drummer combo in the business and a fantastic lyricist too, 2nd favorite musician on then planet for me behind only Jerry Cantrell. whole band is amazing tho, one of the most talented groups out there. Thanks for the vid man, mastodon will always kickass
I loved it and your welcome!
More than I could chew, what a ROCKER🤟👹🤟.
WOW !!!!!
I was there very close to the stage. One of the best shows I've been to!
It was mesmerizing, reminded me the first time I saw Tool live
More Than I Could Chew is absolutely EPIC!
Fuck yeah man! A pure piece of art!
Mastodon, such titans
The Czar is one of the greatest songs ever written
Great band. Every member is an all star musician.
Love your videos!
Glad you like them! Subscribe if you want notifications I have many more planned! Iron Maiden, Smashing Pumpkins, Janes addiction and more coming
@@LiveRockMusic Yessir! Subbed!
It’s wild to me that I saw Mastodon play just a short walk away at Soma back in ‘04🤔 on the side stage to boot. 🤘 nice up load.
Ive missed this band totally.. wow
Awesome upload man
Appreciate it
Can't wait to see them in Toronto Sept 17. Disappointed there's no songs from Emperor Of Sand, however The Czar is my fav song so very happy that made it
I love that song!
Vim pelo Rastão
I was at the show they played in San Diego months before this show. I even got Bills guitar pick 🤘
Damn!
very nice intro Scott, cheers from Italy
Glad you like it!
Going to see them sept 7 in Mexico, opening Iron Maiden, I really hope a badass setlist like this one, Can't wait!!
That will be a great show!
Me too
See you there
@@Dave.rtz. hellyeah, this tour is a really amazing combination, I really can't wait to see Mastodon again, n with new album
@@LiveRockMusic yess!! When Mastodon was anounced, my head exploded, I didn't imagine see Mastodon again so soon
When did they add a keyboard player? When I saw them live there wasn't one. Not sure I'm a fan of that addition.
When you hear about mastodon open a concert of ghost, you know the World is falling down
Mastodon shouldn't open anything but doors for other bands at this point. However, as you may remember the band disagrees with us. They've very often co-headlined & opened for lesser bands on tour (high on fire, metalocalypse, clutch, opeth, e.o.d.m.) out of respect. Saw these humble guys "headline" the 2012 tour with opeth and ghost, of the 3 shows i caught they opened for the other bands twice (on purpose in the larger cities?). They are all about respecting the music and us fans, not ego trippin rock stars at all.
love mastodon but i have never see them live, next week Im flying to mexico to watch iron maiden with mastodon, and I’m studying how are they live. Can’t wait to see those two band
Love Troy's stage moves during Teardrinker
U meant to say Gandalf
LMAO
@@LiveRockMusic can you please put the Timestamps? It would be very appreciated!
41:39 most epic riff ever created
Crystal Soul
nice!
Intronaut he mentioned: Australopithecus check it out ✔️
I think for the first time ever i saw Brent tell the tech to turn it down just a hair. It always seems like a never ending battle with Brent continuously pointing at the ceiling. lml
always in love with metal bands if they use gibson guitars
Quite amazing band
Where do they get that energy!!
I was there in the stands. Mastodon rocks but it was my first time there and I don’t think the monitors helped them out. Almost like they weren’t equalized. Overall great show.
I agree Carlos!
Good drummer.
And singer!
Hes okay
@@FurnaceFuneral84 why don’t you show everybody if you can do better?
@@alanzata100 I switched to accordion from drums because drums are boring i am the best drummer and dont have to show you a god damn thing
Somewhat decent
I can't get over how good of a song the czar is
I have to see them play Jaguar God live one day
Dude, your in Chula Vista, my parents live in that area. Nice out there.
Please do Porcupine Tree!!!
I saw them last night in Atlanta. So Ghost played before Mastadon there?
No ghost closes all shows
Omg he mentioned baroness and red fang.. (to me not so much resemblant but all one of my favorites) 😀
Love em. I get the same vibe!
I just want to hear the Aqua Teen Hunger Force concessions song played live or at least as an intro for the band.
Rasta on Keyboards! Great
The best!
Their metal works like l.s.d. !
So kind of them to perform for a crowd of quadriplegics ❤
Ghost's audience didn't know what hit them. Mastodon just fried all their brain cells. It's beautiful to witness
Well said! My friend and I (long time mastodon fans) were rocking the fuck out up in our seats, singing along and head banging. I’m pretty sure we we’re the only ones even standing in our section. I’ve come to expect that over the years. I guess some people don’t know to react to amazing bands. But, the fact that they played bladecatcher shows me they are just having a blast and don’t care what people think.
So true!
I think it's a good thing to play to a crowd like that, you never know who's going to connect with it and become a fan. I know that has happened to me many times
@@LiveRockMusic totally! Love the videos man. Great stuff. Also, your description for this video is so great. Keep up the good work 🤘
Wow San Diego, leave a little energy for ghost
!!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!!
On what universe does Mastodon open for Ghost? All hope is lost. They are amazing as usual despite the crap audio on this video.
Mastodon wasn’t the opener, kind of like a less hyped frontliner. Spirit box was the opener. Whether or not you like Ghost, they are becoming pretty big.
This video is so much better than the actual show (Live). The mix was awful and the band was mostly in the dark. No fault to Mastodon.
I agree. It was a challenge to film!
In a fair world, Ghost should be the support act of Mastodon and Spiritbox
Shit takes for 1000 Alex. Lol.
Disagree with you there, if anything it would be best to be a co headline tour between mastodon and ghost with spiritbox as support, just like the mastodon/opeth shows with zeal and ardor doing support and getting a solid 35min set. I’ve got no hate for ghost tho, Tobias is a stellar songwriter and composer and he earned the fame they’ve received, guy has put in a ton of work the last decade. Ya they may not be as heavy as a lot of other bands but they make some really enjoyable music. I love mastodon they are one of my favorite bands ever but ghost is cool to and deserves the success they’ve gotten. A decade ago mastodon brought ghost on tour to support them, now ghost is huge and they’re doing the same with mastodon. It’s good for mastodon too, allows them opportunity for them to make a bunch of new fans and play to bigger crowds than they usually would
I love Mastodon. Their musical talent is tremendous. It's not as much of a "show" as Ghost though. Ghost is so freaking entertaining and a bit easier to sing along to.
If anything, Mastodon needs a venue where people can get their mosh on. Then you'll see some action!
Ghost has alot more fans for example just look at the there spotify followers compared to spirtbox and mastdon
Why is the audience so chill?
It's kinda odd to see people this calm on rock shows
I understand your pov. Still, when the music, the playing and the show is so good people just want to absorve it all. Its understanble, imho.
Mastodon's music is a little too "proggy" for the "don't care" atittude
It was mesmerizing! Also I think most were there for Ghost, but I loved it!!!
@@LiveRockMusic I skipped the review in the beginning.
Now I understand why they were so chill.
Listening to mastodon for the first time feels like having an encounter with a celestial being hahaha.
I heard them for the first time in 2015, their song oblivion from the crack the sky album was recommended to me on youtube, I will never forget that experience.
Ghost crowd dont know who Mastadon is.
@@LiveRockMusic How was Spiritbox? Pumped to see all three of these bands!
when did Slash start playing keyboards for Mastodon?
Lmao he kinda does look like him. But that’s joao nogueira. He’s from Brazil. You can see a little more backstory about him in their “documentary” for the making of the Hushed and Grim album. It’s a great watch all around.
And that’s joao nogueira from Claypool Lennon Delirium; not the other Brazilian singer who died in 2000, obviously. A diff Joao comes up first when you google the guy.
he is brazilian, his name is João Nogueira
Only 1 hour. ¿Was it part of a festival?
17:01
O Rasta músico contratado ou é membro da banda?
I saw them last night. Great band.. Mix was a little muddy
"You don't win grammys for nothing" Yeah, not so sure about that though. Mastodon is great though and very original.
32:50 black tongue
Love it!
El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee???
My wife just said Troy Sanders sounds like a frog when he sings. I disagree but I’m dying laughing!
😂😂
I think Brent's mike was off?
How'd they get Slash to play keyboards??? 🤔
LMAO
20:59 which song ?
The crux
But Ghost should be the ones doing the warmup
Sad story... "Camcorder"
Is that Damon Fox on the keys?
Who is the synthman?
Good question
João Nogueira @nogstaeffel
Joaõ nogueira ,he’s part of the Lennon claypool delirium with les claypool and John Lennon’s son, he did all the synth/key work on the hushed & grim record and has been touring with them since they started up again last year, cool dude and a dope musician.
thank you guys, it feels weird sawing a synth on the stage w Mastodon but is very necessary and has it's own space on the new songs. Love it!
No blood and thunder?
Sadly no, they were opening for Ghost so something had to give
What’s with the keyboard players and top hats?
