Ive seen Mastodon live many times and Ive had a lesson with Bill. They are by far some of the best and coolest people around in metal
if only they could play their instruments
@@kimseniorb Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean they can't play
@@kimseniorb if you knew anything of hybrid picking you would be bowing to mastodon. Go practice!
They are the coolest though. They're not cooler than you or me. They're just normal talented nerds like us, they just have success with their craft
Had a lesson with Bill too. Absoluetly great 👏👍
Mastodon is now one of the GOATs of heavy music. 20 years and no bad albums.
They have bad albums
@@duhlike You know what an opinion is?
@@duhlike Hahaha Their “worst” albums would be most other band’s best albums.
@@duhlike Genuinely curious what you think their bad albums are.
@@duhlike they may have albums not as good as others but in the grand scheme of things, Mastodon is well on their way to becoming a legendary heavy music band. They will be up there with Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera etc
Bill's transition from a wild man to a laid back, calm guy is something else. He used to go HARD (I think acknowledged too hard) and it's great to see him as a more mature guy... gives me hope for myself, lol
That’s what a long successful marriage and kids will do to you.
We as men suddenly awaken to the reality of our true responsibility and power in this world. So we contain it and use it wisely like a Jedi.
I've just gotten into Mastedon this year, having a blast exploring their catalogue. Their "making of" documentaries on UA-cam are the best I've ever seen.
The amount of chord shapes he runs through while just talking shows how dedicated he is to doing what he loves, thanks for the look into your life Bill!
I love Bills personality and his way of conversing - he has always seemed like a good dude. His rhythm playing is innovative with unique chords and sounds….I’d love to have him play more solos in Mastodon.
That tone at the end of the video is fricken delicious and so is the riffing….he does have a very relaxed and calm playing style
All hail Bill the riff lord!!! Cannot overstate how much I love Mastodon. Thank you for the tunes!
Amen x 5000
This was AWESOME. I’ve always been a huge fan of Bill’s riffage but knowing now that the guy behind it all is such a laidback, relatable and humble person takes it to another level! I think it even stunned Lee how genuine of a dude Bill is, despite how big Mastodon as a band have become. This interview made my weekend. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Bill just has such the perfect amount of confidence, like he's humble but he knows his strengths and puts the love and attention into honing them and pushing his limits
It's taken me until I'm 39 to really start learning guitar properly and Mastodon have been one of those bands that inspire me to keep trying. I couldn't have a lesson from Bill without feeling completely overwhelmed and way out of my depth, I'd never have believed such a thing was even possible back in the early 2000's. Great interview, great band, great bunch of guys.
Started when I was 43...Mastodon is massive motivator :)
@@alistairclifton1286 aren’t they just, that solo in Divinations could make anyone want to learn to shred.
Right there with you, I've been at it for two years, practicing 2+ hours every day and I started at 52.😳 Love mastodon, both Bill and Brent.
@@beaglegod1 that’s some dedication! My routine is non existent at the moment but I practice basics when I get the chance.
There songs are such a joy to play. Stick to it!
"Iron Tusk" is my go-to, get pumped for an archery hunting theme song. Mastodon are always great live.
Along with Rick Beato's interviews these are some of the best out there. I think it's key that the interviewer has a passion for what they're interviewing a person about.
These interviews are amongst the best music interviews of all time. I could listen to these guys talk about their passion for hours.
Mastodon are incredible, and Bill is such an amazing player.
Mastodon is one of the few bands where all 4 members sing. They are pretty unique. Their first several albums were really great and Leviathan might be the best metal album of the millennium
It's a shame that we only get Bill's vocals when he does backing live, but he's said that he'd rather get into a real groove on the guitar. All of the guys have got great and distinctive vocal character. I've loved listening to the changes in style as they have gone through the albums, it never gets stale and I can always go back to an album and enjoy it again. The albums from Call of the Mastodon to Blood Mountain scratch the heavy itch, and the mixture of prog, hard rock and psychedelia going from Crack the Skye all the way up to Hushed and Grim is amazing.
I have always found this to be a clear sign that a band is great if many members sing. Mastodon, Eagles, Beatles, Pink Floyd.
Great interview.
Top 4 heavy bands for me last 25 years (in no particular order)
Mastodon
Tool
Opeth
Meshuggah
can i add gojira for a top 5?
One of my favorite guitarists. Been lucky enough to see Mastodon twice in the last couple years
Saw a show with Mastodon and Ghost last year and it was excellent.
Bill!!! Amazing! So thrilled to see him here. He looks healthy and happy.
One of the best riff writers today and such a cool dude. Anderton’s knows what’s up
What an amazing surprise! Mastodon is my favorite band of all time, and I've been dreaming of Bill coming on. Great guitarist, and a great guy too.
So stoked to see this interview. Bill is such a fantastic player and cool guy 👍👍👍
Lee need to be given more credit. He's such a good interviewer.
20 or so years I been listening to these dudes...1 of the greats
Wow these riff so intricate, original and amazing, and the way way he plays so dynamic and precise👌🏻…
DO YOU KNOW WHICH SONG IS THIS?
@@giwrgoslepipas4041 he plays Pain With an Anchor in the beginning. Then there’s Sultan’s Curse in the end and Roots Remain in the middle when he explains riff writing
The Interview Master strikes again! This was quite a surprise. Well done, Lee, and thanks Bill for the insights.
He makes his guests feel at ease but he needs to calm down a bit, maybe a benzo or two. He stutters and stammers through questions sometimes and asks it in four different ways before he finally gives the floor to the guest.
@@Cheximus really well put. he went around too much :(
Nice episode, thanks! Now that we have Captain meeting persons called Bill, the next meetable in line should be Bill Steer, the UK's national treasure and the secret weapon of modern metal, its past and present.😇😇😇
Bill is amazing. Such a good guitarist and down to earth bloke
I know I’m 11 months late, but I’m your winner 🏆! Great interview!
Mastodon are by far my favorite metal band.Everyone should watch their documentaries on UA-cam. Can’t wait to see them with Gojira!
Yeah dude! I’m Seeing them in Portland 👍
@@boonerichardson1639 👍 nice. Boston for me
Got my ticket for Denver. Rock on.
The two titans of Whalecore 🐋
Yep, Austin for me!
I had no idea the Sheriff could sound like that!
The man is awesome! Big respect to them all
MASTODON has been my GOAT metal-band for the past 13 Years !! So 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This interview helped get me through a birthday party. You know one of those your little kid is invited to and you’re the only parent there trying to avoid small talk.
This dude is a effin riff monster! Mastodon are aging like fine wine, they just keep getting better! Thank you for this Captain!
Man I forgot about this channel.
Years ago like 2012 ish I was looking to get a Les Paul and couldn’t justify spending the $$$ for the version with the fake ebony (richlite?) and you guys reviewed the LP classic custom which was basically a thinner neck and a baked maple board….
Point is I went with that and that video helped me with the choice. Still have that guitar and love it and have recorded a ton of music and gigged with it never let me down.
Mastodon and Bill are badasses.
Bill's guitar passion is amazing...met him backstage once and he said he was pumping out one solid riff a week...many more Mastodon songs to come for sure.
Absolutely FAN of these guys. They're brilliant musicians, they are funny and so humble guys, and they have amazing instruments. WHAT ELSE!? Best metal band od this century. IMO
I'll always remember seeing Bill outside the Brixton Academy 2017. He had a guitar pedal in his had literally looked at me, went "shhhh," and disappeared into a side door. 😅
The section about the artwork is so true as well. I got into Maston in 2006 I'd heard Crystal Skull and Capilarian Crest then went down to my local MVC and saw the Blood Mountain front cover and just had to have it. Been a fan ever since
Legend. One of the most understatedly brilliant songwriters, riff-writers and guitar players on the planet.
Thank you Bill, for remembering me, why I still feel so home in Punkrock music!
Oh my freaking god! 🥲
Bill is such a class dude, and I love his playing and taste. ingear. He gives off such cool uncle vibes, but writes the kind of shit that stands the test of time. I've been a really big fan ever since coming across Blood and Thunder in high shool back in...2007?? Damn time flies.
Just watched this interview and want to say to the Captain: you are a fabulous interviewer! You let Bill TALK as much as he wanted (which was happily, quite a lot) without interrupting him and you asked questions that he was really into answering and elaborating on. The interview was delightful. Thank you Captain and Bill!
Seriously the best!
This is awesome. Bill is such a cool dude
This is one of the best Captain Meets episodes you guys have ever done
What a decent bloke. Cool chats. :)
I wonder what high school -era Rabea would have said if you told him Bill Kelliher will be using the Kraken amp you will help design?!
Mastodon is just the best! All the guys seem like really great people. I'm really looking forward to their next album. I love Hushed & Grim.
I loved this interview!! One of my favorites!! Bill has been an inspiration to me for the past 10 years after getting into Mastodon!! Their chemistry as a band is flawless!!🤘🏻
I played a show with Mastadon back in the early 2000s at a knights of columbus hall in huntsville alabama. they showed up in a van and were all the nicest dudes. I bought their 1st record Remission from their Merch table. I just went and saw them in the same town when they played with ghost. I took my oldest daughter it was her first metal concert.
Love Bill Kelliher, simple as.
Great band "Mastodon". Interesting hearing about how he started out playing through his dad's stereo. You don't need a lot of gear to learn and make music. My 1st amp was not an amp but rather my portable Panasonic CD/Cassette/Radio that I would plug my guitar into the Aux line in and try to jam to songs on it. My distortion was basically the speakers about to blow
Such great band and I love listening to Bill. Awesome, thanks.
Awesome interview, thank you Anderson’s👏👏👍
Fantastic! Love how humble and honest BillyK is! Great video.
One of the coolest guys ever. Love his wisdom
Thank you so much for this interview. Was lucky enough to meet Bill for half a second before a show in Atlanta a few years ago. Loved the whole thing, especially hearing about his songwriting process.
I loved this video to no end. Thank you!
The sparrow hawk is a beautiful guitar 🎸🥰
Bill is the coolest most honest guy.
Good to see a legend put some respect on the Peavey name.
one of the best guitar-riff player of all time
YESSSSSS!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this interview. Mastodon is my all time fave and I got meet and greets for this upcoming tour with Gojira.
Thank you so much Cap! 🙏
Yes!! more like this please!
What an absolute legend. I do adore Mastodon as they're one of my top favourite metal bands. I did manage to get Crack the Skype signed by him after a guitar clinic he did in Birmingham back in 2017 I believe and he was awesome and what a pleasure to meet one of my favourite bands' musicians.
Great interview. Brilliant guitarist . Fantastic written riffs. with emotion
Love Bill's tone. It doesn't have too much of that fizzy toppy white noise covering his true tone. Great stuff
Bill is the man ..being from Rochester NY ...we look up to him and are extremely proud to be near were he came from
Awesome interview, truly enjoyed it.
What a great guy. Top player and writer, and a humble, good human being too. Respect.
Two legends in one room.
Bill you're the best, thanks for all the sick riffs
I love their music. Thank you for the great interview captain 🤩
Sublime interveiwing skills Captain...that video flew by and was a pleasure to watch. Great questions and and interested interviewer, you could tell Bill felt at home.
I saw these guys in the early 00’s and I never would imagine they’d become such a prolific band. They deserve it.
Oh yeah!
nice, dude lives in my hood, see him from time to time, he came and ate at the mexican restaraunt i worked at last year once too
I remember in highschool I had guitar class, and I remember I had a few of my friends that learned eruption and all the mainstream solos and I still stuck to what I loved and what moved me.
No shit I literally just listened to a Mastodon playlist at work last night after not having listened to them in eons and then come home to see this! Bill chews up riffs and spits out straight sludge, he is definitely one of my all-time inspirations
Bill's guitar journey mirrors mine so closely , as I also started with punk and new wave and my first "amp" was the mic. input of my dad's Akai tape deck and we're nearly the same age.
It's great seeing you appreciating Mastodon.
Now I know why Pete has been playing a couple of their riffs in recent videos! 😉
One of the most humble and real guys you could ever have on and hear from! Loved this one.
Thanks, Captain, for this wonderful interview. I had heard of Mastodon but never really knew much about them. But after listening to the entire interview am going to go check them out. Bill seems like a great guy and a real down-to-earth person. I really appreciated this. Thanks again.
Dust……hell yea! I have that CD and it is really great. It is still magical to search out and find things. Also “Crack The Sky”
Another well done interview...congrats..
He's so right about guitar sound - and I think its something people who teach guitar to people should help people understand; there's by yourself-enough-gain-to-level-a-city-block sounds & how a guitar needs to sound within the confines of a mix/group
I never, in my wildest dreams, would have imagined Bill K would be a guest on Andertons TV. Amazing.
This was an absolutely brilliant interview, and Bill seems like an really awesome guy. Lee, you are a fantastic interviewer.
What an absolute legend! Thanks Lee, thoroughly enjoyed this one!
Great interview and questions. Bill seems well thought out and answered all the questions directly, killer.
Awesome what a delightful interview !
Cool interview! Time just flies ! Rock on !
Awesome, thank you!!🦞🦞🦞
Holy friggin crap! didnt expect to see this one.
What a treat!
I wish I could like this video more than once. The "Captain Meets" videos just keep getting better.
I love these, too. Also, Tone Talk, Live From Flat Five w/Josh Smith, Tone Talk, and Truetone Lounge.
Bill is a beast. Mastodon is my favorite band and seeing them live is pure joy.
Thank you! Riff writing master!
LOVE MASTODON !!
Amazing interview, really humble guy
In the mid 80’s every Saturday night California university (PA) had a punk show and you could call in and make up a name , send a song out to some other people who would call in and ask for songs. We’d record them on cassette decks. If we weren’t out driving around looking for a place to skate. I think The Accused are who influenced me the most to play an instrument. Among DK’s, Fang, DOA, Adrenaline OD, Minor Threat, Misfits! Discovering that there was this whole thing that was kind of hidden from the world was like finding Pandora’s box .
Such a great and influential guitarist, but a hilarious interviewee as well. Looking forward to what they craft next!
this is tremendously exciting!
