This song magnified the imagination landscape of the 70s... I wasn't even a big Aerosmith fan back then, but wondrous aspects of the 70s come crashing back to me hearing this masterpiece.
This song is generally recognized as the first big "power ballad" and got massive airplay on radio. Even though it's a rock band and the arrangement is guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards, it was very orchestral and dramatic in its sound and opened the door for endless imitators.
Halelujah someone finally gave you a great song to react too!!! This is my all time favorite Aerosmith song and Steve Tyler is amazing in so many ways in it!! 🎶🔥💖
I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in New England where this song first became extremely popular in 1973. The rest of the country had to wait until 1976 when the song was re-released and became a big hit in the US.
@@vicprovost2561 I no longer live there now, but there were quite a few bands that were really popular there before they took off anywhere else. The Cars were another example.
This woman doesn't have a ring on her finger, so let there be no judgement when I say that I've watched her for years....and I absolutely love her spirit and her personality and her physical features. She's A+
I'm so glad you reacted to this and you really gave an excellent description of what was going on with it musically. The reason it sounded like a sitar at the beginning, is because Joe Perry was playing these kind of Oriental or Eastern sounding scales. This song is from their very first album by the same name as the band. And by the way, every song on that first album is absolute fire. But this is as young as you will ever hear Steven Tyler. That's why it's interesting to hear all the songs on the album. But at any rate, like you said he has a good range and he's got that wonderful low tone and he has such incredible control; he does those big slides up over an octave to a ninth. And yeah that total fried out rock and roll belt is incredible and it's an iconic part of this song. And what I also love about his voice was he was always good at having a lot of resonance in it.
Thank you for playing this song. Great song and the first single from their first album. I remember it getting a lot of airplay on the radio stations in our area back in the day.
Aerosmith covered the Beatles’ “Cone Together”, for the movie “Sergeant Peppers, Lonely Hearts, Club Band” (1978, which starred The Bee Gees). It’s a very impressive cover
Thank you Jim and thank you Ang for the reaction!! I think this is the first Aerosmith song I ever heard, and it was kind of cool because at the same time Gary Wright had a hit song on the radio called "Dreamweaver", so everything good was all about dreams at the time!! "Crying", "Crazy" and "Amazing" is a great trio of songs by this band and "Deuces Are Wild" is another song you will enjoy! Cheers!!
One of the all time great rock bands. Great album also. A must have for guitarists back then. Chock full of great riffs to learn. Perry has a unique style of playing. I recently saw him do "Back In The Saddle" live and and he killed it! Unbelievable.
"Everytime that I look in the mirror/ I see the lines in my face getting clearer" So true. This is a great song; my Dad was a teenager in the 70's but I don't remember him having any Aerosmith albums.
This is their best song! They are among the most successful rock bands of all time! Too bad there was, or probably there is turmoil among the band members, but that's how it goes I suppose! Great song about not giving up on your hopes and dreams and about being resilient and persistent until the end!
A true rock classic. This is a song that gets stuck in my head time every now and then. Steven Tyler also did a version with a children's choir honoring the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings which makes me choke-up every time I hear it. A cover was done by Morgan James with Postmodern Jukebox that is also outstanding.
I think that came out on the Rocks album in 75-76. Funny that’s there’s a lot of 60 yr olds who know every word .. every pluck of the guitar strings.. every beat by heart. That song was way ahead of it’s time. One of Aerosmith’s great earlier songs with so many more to come.
Interestingly enough, Steven Tyler wrote this song when he was 14. Such a profound song to come from such a young mind. Living in Boston for many years, i can attest to all the great muaic that originated here. I saw these guys live some time in the late 1980s, and it was a fantastic show. It was also the loudest rock concert i can remember attending, and that's saying somwthing! I had to find a bathroom and get some toilet paper to wad up and stuff in my ears. As a musician myself, ive always respected the real possibility of hearing loss from overexposure to very loud music (even though some music, like most Aerosmith songs is best played loud)!
STEVE BOY TOUCHED YOUR SOUL. BEST REACTION I HAVE EVER SEEN YOU DO. I GOT A LAUGH WATCHING YOU. 😆😆😆😆. THIS SONG IS 50 YEARS OLD. I TURN 56 TOMORROW. DAMN!!!
A summer camp in NH buddy turned me on to them. It was ‘73. Asked mom to take me to the station some months. I was 15. A Long Island kid. Saw them in a small theater, one of their first times in NYC. Fantastic. It wasn’t till ‘76 that NY radio stations started playing it. Never mentioned it was three years old by then.
Thanks Angela for trying this all-time Aerosmith classic. Saw them at least a dozen times, including when this song was first released, I saw them point blank several times and seeing these guys just cook on stage is something I'll take to the otherside. Try it live sometime, the video performance, no matter which decade it was made, is always outstanding. Also try Seasons of Wither from the or 2nd album, an all time vibe you will love. Enjoy pretty lady! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
WOW, I just realized I was only 6 yrs old when Dream On came out. I had an older sister who had all the cool rock albums back then and this was one of them. Timeless song!! I've been lucky to see Aerosmith twice. Awesome shows! BTW, Steven Tyler's voice live sounds just like the record. Amazing vocals!!
"F.I.N.E.", Love In An Elevator", "What It Takes", "Back In the Saddle", "Angel", "Livin On the Edge", "The Other Side", "Rag Doll", and "Dueces Are Wild"...... Love some Aerosmith...😀😀
Angela, great to see you grooving to the song; much like they did in the studio when they recorded it back some 50 years ago. Other than the obvious respect to Steven Tyler's vocals, was his songwriting of this song. Even though it was on piano, you never hear one on this track; only other types of keyboards. Joe Perry and Bradley Whitford do a great job on dual lead guitars for this track. Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer do a great job on bass and drum filling out this track. Completely haunting song for the ages! Great reaction, as only you can do!
Nice! A proper reaction to an incredible song. It is a bit hard for me to process that someone could not be aware of this song. Although it makes sense that if you weren't exposed to it, you wouldn't know it. It's just that it is a song that has been ingrained in my head for so long. It does make it very interesting though to watch someone experience it for the first time.
Showing my age here…check out their 1975 album „Toys in the Attic“. You won’t be disappointed!!! Their debut album „Aerosmith“ was the first album I bought in 73. How time flys! Cheers
So many Aerosmith songs for you yet. They headlined the first concert I went to: Cal Jam 2 in 1978. I was just 15yrs9mos and I was there for about 27 hours. If you want...try: Last Child__Back in the Saddle__Round and Round__Sweet Emotion.

I saw them in concert at the three rivers stadium 1976 Tyler was so high that he fell down on stage. They had to give him a little time he came back and they jammed out
He wrote this when he was 15 years old , which I think is so amazing but also so ironic. If you hear the words you'd swear, it was written by someone with a whole lot more life expeience.

I believe it was January 1973, my best friend and I stood outside the music store on Hancock Street in Quincy Massachusetts waiting for it to open just to be the first in to buy this album. They ahem Steven put that whole stank on this song. I love the old version, I love the new version can't pick a favorite. This one of those songs that I can't even read comments when it's play. Freaking GOAT of a song
Easily the best of Aerosmith, and I don’t mean that as a slight to the rest of their catalog. From the guitar to the drums to the vocals. The waver in Steven Tyler’s voice in the verses is killer, and the pounding two notes of the pre-chorus, all building to a crescendo with the repeated refrain of dream on. One of the all-time great rock songs.

Time flies when we get old! 🤣😂👍
I can, I had thus album on 8-track back in high school in '73.
