In 1962 I was 10, my dad got me a guitar. Yes, The Beatles were coming to the music world to do what no 4 lads did. But being a guitar player there is not a better band anywhere. I was driven to excel with my guitar. The Ventures were my all time favs. Now reaching 70, when my spirits need a lift, " Walk Don't Run" plays. Nokie, Bob, Don, and Mel R.I.P. God Speed with deep sorrow, miss you guys.
David: I know you're trying to sound cool and hip but those aren't "a few old tube amps". They're solid state, transistors if you will. If they had been tube amps the resulting hum at their playing volume would have been overwhelming.
@@edwardlopez1499 At the modern level of technical solutions, you can easily be offered both tube and semiconductor solutions with any of the conceived sounds, even a five-watt class A, but at the same time with unlimited power and volume and the finest color you want. 2/3/2022 I'm sitting here listening to music I loved back some 63 years ago, and except for a few, I remember them all. They were my favorite band and I had every album they made until around 1969. The last one, I believe, had a cover of "Mighty Quin", one of the only albums where they actually had some vocals. So many great hits, so many great covers, and so many great memories Rip Don Wilson, thanks for all the great music. ;-)
Thanks to the Japanese whose idolization of the Ventures in those years 60's and on... kept them boys on their toes! Some of the best live concerts ever. I was born in 1950 and dug the guitar sounds before the Beatle invasion, got distracted for a lonnng time. But now discovering what the Ventures have done even while less popular in the West, just blows my mind. They deserve a place in the rock world, at the top.
En los ultimos 50 años y en musica instrumental lo maximo son los venturosos de lo bueno lo mejor. Mi nombre es Evaristo Trujano soy de Mexico. Muchas gracias
I was there at the STARWOOD, took some photos that can be seen at the Mosrite Forum, and my photos almost match the ones appearing on the cover of Guitar Player (Sep. 1981), saw myself in the audience front right. Afterwards, I went backstage to have the guys autograph something I made but was stopped at the door and the guy said I couldn't come in. When Mel Taylor, the drummer, heard him and saw me he told the guy that I was alright. Mel and I stood in a cashier's line at Robinsons Dept Store. Mel escorted me to each member's small dressing room and all 4 autographed my item. I was in musical heaven! And I have the photos to prove it!
So glad I was able to see them live over the years, but only twice with the original lineup seen here. Have pictures with all 4 guys and their autographs. They were amazing together I think around 300 albums released worldwide or something like that.
Large group. She paved the way for many musicians. Unfortunately, we can already see them from the tapes. R.I.P. BOB, NOKIE, MEL, DON..We WILL ALWAYS HAPPY TO YOU..FOR YOU AND YOUR MUSIC. A GIFT
I really loved the Ventures since the first time they got air play while I was in school.. Some of the very first songs I learned to play were Ventures and Duane Eddy songs. Their music is still some of the most played in Asia with so many "Ventures tribute bands".
What a band. Just great. Beautiful teamwork, beautiful music. Thank you Ventures.Nokie Edwards goes from single to complicated combos of notes quickly yet effortlessly creating just wonderful sounding solos. Bobo Bogel on bass is great.
About the best live performance of The Ventures I have have seen and heard. The sound especially is very good. Nokie is incredibly good on lead guitar.
Really Rocking instrumental band in the World... Played it with their minds n hearts..n giving it all at their BEST ,,🎸🎸🎸🎶🎵🎧💃👠🏖️💓.. who all.are there now playing in 2021?
RIP Don Wilson. Saw them in Milwaukee around Nov. 1981 (interviewed them earlier in the day) Amazing show in a small club. (The Starship) What still sticks in my mind was Mel Taylor’s rolling drums and cymbals crashing like big breakers on the shore during Hawaii 5-0. A more intense version than this one (a tape still exists). It’s one of those things that truly needed to be witnessed live
Speaking of 1981, my work was so busy that listening to music was the only way to listen to radio in a commuter car. The members at this time are almost changed now, but they are always fresh. I'm really thankful to you.
While I was a Japanese performance of ventures personally, live broadcasting in 1967, 1972 and 1974 was most well-made. A stage performance in this 1981. It's best in the United States.
Saw the Ventures 5 years ago for the second time. Nokie Edwards was 81 years old, you wouldn't know it by his guitar playing, amazing. Saw them the first time in 1970. Got a picture shaking hands with Bob Bogle, what a treasure.

Just went, for the first time, to The Rock Hall in Cleveland a couple of days ago. The edifice should be re-named "The Ventures Museum of Awesome Rock and Roll"!!!!
Mel Taylor never received due credit. I assume that was because he didn't play for Led Zep or some other "name band," but his timing, versatility, and drive were impeccable. And the older he got the more creative he got.
How the Ventures sounded this good live on stage with no special effects is beyond me. These guys are absolute pros. Are there any other groups able to do this? I don't think so..

Four guys, 2 Guitars, 1 Bass, 1 set of Drums, a few old tube amps, no singing, timeless hit after timeless hit, no mistakes, KILLED IT!

The best instrumental rock band ever. One of the best rock bands we have ever had for sure. I like that they are loved all over the world.

Great music, great sound, great rock ‘n’ roll / surf songs. I love these classics by USA’s The Ventures!
In these days of the lockdown , this a treat to lift our spirits💃🏼
Wow you said it,Nina'.Bless them for entertaining the world to divert our minds with Unique playing !!!

Great Show & the Best Instrumental Band in the World . R.I.P Nookie Edwards .
It's Nokie, not Nookie.
A maior banda de rock instrumental da história; nunca foi e nem será superada. Indiscutivelmente, Nokie é o maior guitarrista que já existiu.

Funny how Nokie Edwards play his guitar almost static all the time, while most guitarrists keep shaking instead.
No wasted motion, all the energy going into the guitar.
