The instructions for the rod set up was the best explanation of how to. I seen several videos on set up,but yours makes the most sense.thank you.
You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching
You guys remind me of ME 45 years ago! Tight lines men!
Rip to that rod! How long ago was this recorded? Getting them in the Joe for the past 2 weeks
Keep ‘em chasing in the wrong spots
Thanks for the tips! Your rig set ups helped me to land a king and steelhead on a Michigan trip last weekend
@@mattlyons7166 sweet!
Haha love you got the rod getting yanked into the water in camera. But cmon man it’s summer jump in after that fucker!!!
Water was cold and wavy 🥶
Where are you peer fishing at
Why is there a swivel above the float? I dont understand that rig at all
@@theunluckyfisherman4845 the bobber floats up to the surface. Your swivel is on top of the bobber. From the swivel, your leader line dictates how deep you are fishing. Ei 10ft leader, your roughly 10ft deep
I'm wondering about the leader length. When would a shorter or longer leader be preferable and why?
@@imjinrat2325 all depends on where the fish are sitting in the column. Just gotta keep playing with length until one starts working!
I don’t get it if the swivel is on top of the bobber aren’t you only fishing 4 to 8 ft deep with your leader never seen this method and want to understand it before trying in on the Wisconsin side
@@AceBase5 the length of your leader dictates your depth since it’s sitting on the surface of your float. Ei you want to fish 10ft down, your leader is 10ft
How many pounds is the line where the hook is and how do you put it?
What size is the hook?
The line off the swivel is anywhere from 6 to 10 pound fluorocarbon. Any basic fishing knot will work. For hooks I run wrong size 6.
When was this? Went out yesterday and lost one on a spoon, going out tmr morning hoping we can get at least one
A week or so
If it helps anyone when I was in Milwaukee nov 1 for tool concert we had enough to time afterwards to fish McKinley, and south shore. We were sightfishing a few groups of kings left over from spawn. They would chase up spoons, cranks and jerkbaits but wouldn’t commit. I ended up using a plastic fluke and a light jig head and had to get it in from of them and piss them off but they would eat it.
Hey, when is the best times of the year to fish there for stealhead?
You can catch them all seasons!
Good stuff man. I’d love to also hear about the weather/water conditions that create a great day for pier fishing for steelhead
What pier do you guys fish at??
Where's the hook? The rig is kinda confusing tbh
@@lowlifeaquarium1553 hooks at the end of the leader line
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 behind the barrel swivel? Okay lol saw it on your guys other videos too
What’s a good main line? I got 15lb hi-vis mono because I also use this rod as my float setup. I noticed that I didn’t seem to pull much fish though. Should I downsize or switch colors?
Never used high vis main lines. Sure it’d be fine if you run a buffer. If not I’d stick with clear 15-20lb mono or braid
Do u let the pyramid hit the bottom and let the bobber float up
@@Fizk2.0 yup!
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 ok thank you I went out this morning and fiahhed for 4 hours and caught nothing so I was just wondering if I did something wrong
How long was your net?
@@Jason-sh2xc not sure it’s a large Beckman
The rod that went in the water I would have dived for it the second it popped outta the holder
Do you ever use this method for spring steelhead? Heading that way in a few weeks and was planning on floating bags. My spawn is not in good shape and majority of the stuff for sale is cured. Looking for some other options. Thanks.
I’m sure it would work!
Do you guys live close to grandhaven or holland? You’re very knowledgeable, doesn’t the water temp have to be cool to fish off the pier?
Cooler in general yes, all depends on time of the year tho
Hey man would afternoons be a good time to hit the south haven pier if the water is cold. I was out this morning with no luck, but people on the other sure were killing it. Was thinking about going after work.😊
Definitely worth a try!
So when pier fishing, it’s all about the wind, which way the wind is blowing and if it’s blowing in cold or warm water,so do you watch the wind on all the Piers along Lake Michigan I have no idea All I know is pier fishing is pretty hard most of the time catching sport fish
Yes we do. Look for areas with consistent favorable weather patterns for that time of year 👍
What is your bait of choice? I see people cast netting for live bait, what about frozen store bought shrimp?
@@ABIGBALDGUY alewives work great if you can get em. Store bought shrimp works just as good most days
What are you guys running as mainline?
So the hook is tied above the float?
@@Ballamhw80 it’s tied to the leader that is about the float yup
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 thanks! 💪
Set up ? Size hook? How long of leader used ?? Pound test line ? Not so good video of set up
Skip the super annoying repetitive music and you have a great video super nice fish
Preciate it. Had to cover wind noise with something!
Do you add any split shot to the leader with the bait? Or just let it float down in the current?
Depends on waves/wind normally not tho
nice fishing..so the float and the swivel are free floating and the leader also?
Free floating on the line. The bobber brings them up to the surface since they are above the float. The shrimp sinks so the length of your leader is how deep you will b e
what is the name of the place where you are fishing
So you don’t have to put a bobber stopper before the swivel?? Thanks
Nope bobber will free float to the surface
I always have problems casting the rods with such a long leader. Idk how you can launch it without it knotting and tangling up.
Put the shrimp down on the concrete behind you, call when you cast try to make a big arc. A long rod helps to.
Wow, great video.
What is the key for summer steelhead in July and August? I think water temp and wind are the keys but what kind of wind should be good?
Any wind that moves the colder water closer to the shore you are fishing!
Prácticamente el líder estará en la superficie con el flotador , o se debe de poner un stopper ?
I’ve seen you guys fish in all sorts of weather and catch fish, how do the weather and water conditions affect the fishing? Or do you have a good source i can go to to learn about that stuff? Love your videos! Thanks in advance!
All depends on the species! Some like colder water some like warmer etc. Certain winds can bring these waters closer to shore. Thanks for watching!
how do you set the hook with no resistance?
That was friken awesome!!! ❤😂😃😃
Thanks for teaching this set-up. Is braid ok on your main line? I understand to use fluoro as leader but was wondering about the braid on main.
Shouldn't be an issue at all
Great explanation of the rig! My only question is what type of rods power/ length are you using to cast that heavy of a weight.
Most rods 9ft and over have no problem casting them. Look for something 9-12ft with a 6-12 or 8-17lb rating. Thanks for watching!
Man really WaW the eay you did the set up was soo easy and clear thanks a lot
How do you actually set the hook 🤔
What size and style hooks to do you like to run? Do you hook the shrimp in the head area (if they had heads) or center of body?
Size 4-8 octopus hooks. Can hook the shrimp anywhere 👍
Do you add any split shot to the leader with the bait? Or just let it float down in the current?
Depends how windy it is, normally no shot
For my main line I’m running 10lb test, because someone who fishes steel head told me that was a good choice… but I see you run braided… am I still good to catch fish? Afraid it’s going to snap
10 is light for main line but should work fine off the pier
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 thank you!
You guys should do a couple shows in the tropics!!
Okay so when you go to cast it the weight goes far out and bobber stay close to shore? And I can’t get the shrimp out far enough like that..How would I fix it or is it all in how you cast?
Pretty much all in how you cast. You don’t need your bait to be very far out tho, just give it a good lob out then work your shrimp down to your float
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 thanks!
Are you just using raw regular shrimp?
Yup
Raw shrimp or cooked shrimp?
Both work! Normally run cooked
What kind of jigs/bait are you using?
Shrimp!
When was you fishing
Ill be at the pier today in Holland. Any tips?
Watch out for the hispanic gangs
Man what a day !!!!
so what did yall use for bait?
Walmart shrimp
Does this method catch fall kings in the harbors?
Probably wouldnt be the most effective but if you used the same rig substituted with skein or spawn bags it could be lethal
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 yeah I meant with skein! Thank you 🙏
When would you suggest hitting the doth haven piers??
June-September
Awesome, thank you. Love the videos. Keep up the great work!!!
Won't the sinker just pull the float under water? I guess i don't really understand the purpose of the float.
Bobber free slides on the line!
Do you use live shrimp or frozen shrimp and main line rod reel ?
Frozen. 10-12lb main line with 3-4000 spinning reels size
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 10-12lb braid main line? Also. What lb for the leader line? Thanks in advance
@@shawnpatton15 yup that’ll work for main. Mono or braid. 8-10lb floro leader
Hook em harder and wonder why they broke off
Lol that and old spool of leader line hanging around the truck since winter
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 my spool is 3 years old
Thank you for your video!
Thanks for watching!
It's the time of year for a good stamp of sea trout where I live and that's a method of floating a bait that's so simple yet perfect for keeping a bait high in the water without it drifting which is sometimes inconvenient when you want a bait held high in the water column so I'll have to try it definitely. Did you just leave the float to slide free with a leader on the swivel above and just try different lengths?
Yes!
Where is there pier? And I love the content btw keep it up buddy
Thanks! It’s on the east side of Lake Michigan
Think it's still worth heading out for skams this year? I'm hearing it's about over
