  • Diamond Cut and Polished Face alloy wheel repair video. Using a Rotary and sanding discs to refinish the Diamond Cut face of these Volkswagen Rims before painting.
    In this video, the final stage is a Red Scotch Disc attached to a rotary polisher to replicate and also key up the Alloy Finish.
    This is a useful and cost effective way using simple tools to get a great finish, that can even be done at home with a little time and care!

    I can't tell you how much I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, skills and techniques of the trade. I've been doing this for umpteen years and always looking to grow and you sir have definitely upped my skill level. As I've said before you are on the top tier of the CVR trade.
    I did your method on 2 wheels for a collision/body shop recently. It took awhile due to 1 being previously repaired, so I had to sand out the fish eyes and the clear flaking in the pockets. Also first time trial, second wheel went much quicker and came out better IMO. But both came out amazing.
    First time doing this and the 2 machined wheels I did are by far my favorite ones I've done to date.
    I did the 6" rotory up until 600gr and then used to the pneumatic 3" for near the center caps and beyond 600gr. After 1,000gr, then I used the 3" with purple scotch brite starting from the outer rim working towards the center on very low speed. Never touched the DA except to do the pockets where I could reach and the far outer lip to tidy it up.
    Absolutely amazing! I can't imagine all the hours I've wasted using a 3" DA when a rotary does so much more and 10x faster.
    I really see no need for those who are buying these mobile $60k USD diamond cut lathe machines, this will get so close to the factory finish that really only a professional will be able to tell and even then I think it would be hard if they didn't know which wheel and how it was done. Your method can be tweaked so many different ways to match a certain diamond cut. I'm amazed when I read replies from so called professionals trying to correct you on your method. True tradesman know a skilled tech and you sir are top notch!
    And man you can lay down the clear!

    What type of filler could be used to fill deeper gouges taken out of the wheel? Do you know of ones that come in different colors, or Is there any way to get it matched to the machined face (brushed silver, basically) when it’s refinished? Helpful video, looking to fix my 18” VW Austin’s from the previous owner. Thanks!

    • @cvrpov
      @cvrpov  3 роки тому +2

      if a tiny amount of filler is needed then perhaps do a little blow in with some silver to hide the filler area

      Hi mate. Yeah, you could perhaps add a step inbetween. I kinda leave a bit of the "spin cut" effect for a bit more key and also it looks a little polished faces with the lines... so it's not really about getting that face polished right back up (which I know can also be done). I'm always half aware of leaving some kind of key for the laqcuer to adhere to.

    some newbie questions, how do you press down the tires, as I tried pressing down the tires and even though the wind is inflatted but the tire still wont budge, and also I notice you change to DA for the 1200grit and not why use the rotary again?

    • @cvrpov
      @cvrpov  3 роки тому +1

      I have a bead breaker in the back of the van which mechanically pushes the tyre away from the alloy wheel.
      The da gives a softer finish but you can use rotary if you want

  • @lcmass09

    Hi. What is the type of lacquer you use? Also, for the black paint, you don’t do anything to it before the whole wheel gets sprayed, besides obviously a thorough clean ?

    • @cvrpov
      @cvrpov  3 роки тому

      The black (or whatever colour it is) needs a good scorching up with grey scotch. 2k laqcuer is applied over the whole wheel. This can be a 1k rattle can product if that's all u have

    Are you spraying a color on the machined part? How are you hiding the start and stop lines you made with the sander? I realize if you do the whole wheel there is no lines but I couldn't tell if you did the whole wheel or not.

    • @cvrpov
      @cvrpov  3 роки тому +1

      Yes lacquer the whole wheel once prepped and cleaned. Working your way through the grades of sandpaper to get less and less deep lines
