Hey mate, great video! Quick question - what machine did you use to polish the alloys?

    • @matmart8669

If I was painting over the damaged area with a basecoat would I still need to polish or would you only polish if you ain't painting over?

hi Mat thank you, the machine i used is a Flex rotary polisher but you can use any rotary polisher

@@matmart8669 Hi Mat you would need to polish the alloy rather than base coat if trying to match the finish but definitely lacquer the finish for protection, if you base coat ypu will need to do the whole wheel

@@vpowervpower-sm5sp if I base coat the whole wheel would I still polish the wheel at the end?

@@matmart8669 no, you would only need to polish the laquar once it is fully cured, no need to rub the base coat down or anything

Well done! Unfortunately, on most Audi RS-model wheels (which this looks like), the lip you polished has a very fine "striated" and dull, brushed look. Once you polish over it, you will not be able to return it to OEM. Not sure where this particular wheel came from, but it appears to already have been polished so it's a great candidate for this type of repair.

I've been through so many of these videos trying to find out how to retain or match the original machined finish. No luck yet, everyone seems to use the same method: sand, polish, and clear coat. I'm also curious if clear coat is necessary since the machined surface doesn't appear to be coated.

@@vpowervpower-sm5sp thanks and is there any brand that comes to mind that would be a good choice for clear coat? I know dupli-color has a wheel clear coat but not sure on the gloss . I have the exact same rims style (just the silver finish thou) as you did in this video , i have about the same scruff in same area on all 4 but not bad , but thanks again
