You draw in a very classical Disney way. All your sketches look like Golden Age Disney sketches from the 30-50's.

Very impressive! I'm so happy to see so much dedication in your process; seems I've been stuck in a world where the planning is hidden so it's "not as important" so it's rushed and neglected. Also that you're taking the time to do value and color comps traditionally is so refreshing, treating each part of the process with care. Thanks for sharing!

I'm always so impressed at your knowledge of lighting and colour theory. That's something I've always lamented not being taught, even in art college. The way the colour of light affects the colour of the surroundings, the way light falls and diffuses... It's such a basic thing that any artist should understand but it still boggles my mind today and I adore watching you be able to paint it out with ease. Backgrounds too! It really motivates me to try and study it all more. Thank you for the inspiration! 8D

Most of the four year universities' Colleges of Fine Art are money-making daycare centers that overpay failed artists whose ideology and lack of technical skill make it impossible to find work outside the university cabal. They know how to properly stretch a canvas on a frame and how to mix plaster, but it's all talk from there.

I get bored easily and I also don't have a lot of energy. So if a painting of mine doesn't get done within a few hours or at most, a day then I just move on to something else. So as I would love to plan out my illustrations like you do, because I believe my illustrations would turn out better in the long run, it's too many steps (for me) and I would just get frustrated that I haven't finished a piece within a few hours.

Its funny how it doesn't hit me when my teachers tell me to plan out sketches before hand, but seeing someone else make so many preparation makes me realize I'm just rushing into my pieces with a general idea and then scratching my head when it doesn't work out! Now I really enjoy exploring different ideas and directions and getting feedback from others during the process.

It's the first time I've seen a process that incorporates scanning the thumbnails, cleaning them and then printing them onto paper for value tests and colour comps! It's certainly a really good way to feel things out and reduce the risks of being dissatisfied whilst painting the final piece. It does make for a longer prep phase though. I'll definitely try this out on my own, and see what I can use! Thanks for sharing this video!

The reddish one looks more like a quiet and warm afternoon, it has it's own atmosphere but not the one you wanted I guess. It was an interesting video ! A lot of steps I don't know if I would be able to still paint my piece if I did as many steps as you, I'm bored very easily and I can get bored of a piece even if it's only the sketch or if I directly begin to paint it. But that's interesting to see how the steps and how the idea move, what path it follows, how it follows some technical and visual rules but still how you try to make it concords with what you have in your mind !

your process is so helpful to look at, and really inspires me to go out and practice even more. I think your process showcases just how important it is to be patient and allow yourself for a good product, or at least one you learn a lot from, from taking the time to learn and apply your knowledge of value, color, comp, etc. in order to get the result you want even if doing all the variations is a bit time consuming. Excellent work. I'm definitely so inspired to go out and do a lot of these kinds of studies/applications to my personal work! I really love your stuff--I follow you on social media, but had no idea you also had a youtube channel... really happy it was put in my suggestions, lol

I actually got really frustrated when I was drawing tonight but seeing this made me feel better in that editing, fine tuning and starting over is just a part of the process. I never do thumbnails, I usually just go right in and draw but in seeing your process I think it's a way better idea to plan things out first. And seeing this picture inspired me to do something similar with having an actual environment for a character to be in. I never done a picture like that so I'm excited to try it and see what happens! :)

Yeah, but by doing it with Gouache she practices how to do the washes, gradients and other Technics she would use in the final illustration, but yes, the Photoshop trick is really useful, and economic! Watching this makes me wish I could have worked with you in my studio for the last 20 years. I know it sounds amazing but watching how you moved through this piece and made your decisions along the way is something that I've always wished I knew how to do and I've always wanted to observe because in my line of work (editorial illustration) the trick was always FAST FAST FAST and then it was onto the commission, landing the next piece. I literally never learned to move through work like this carefully... and I feel like my art has really suffered because of it. I am shaking off the dust from the last 20 years and relaunching my career in all new ways. This video was a great help and it has been a huge light for me... thank you x 1,000,000! Liked and subbed! :)

This video was another excellent view into your planning and execution of a piece. And, I appreciated the bonus of seeing your digital process. I also liked seeing the state of your paint palette with all the colours melded into a mash in the background, which is something that was hidden from our view on your actual drawing. It’s a lovely composition and choice of colours.

the colours all mashed up together is a result of me never cleaning my palette 😂😂 but works for me haha thanks for watching! glad to hear you got some things out of it ❤️

Wow this is so lovely to watch an so helpful, honestly think this could have been like a skillshare class or something, it’s so well laid out and explained... I’d love to see the final piece being painted if that’s something you’d want to share too 🙂... I’ve studied art for years and I honestly feel like I learned more watching this video than in my courses that I’ve taken, I’m going to give planning my pieces a go because I literally never do it, the thought makes me anxious but now I think it’ll be worth it 😊

I dread complex compositions with dense detailing. The key is to make it fun and avoid "dead spots". It's a LOT of work! Very well done!
