    the dedication to even make like 6 same looking sketches with tiny differences to later see what you want to do- I as artist could never have. it have the pic in my mind and I will draw one time, that's it. even two times would be too much for one piece and I would simply trash it xD so this is even also stunning like the art itself here!

    I was a loyalist for watercolor but after I got into university, I realized that I prefer a graphic finish than the full rendered one but I didn't know why. I just couldn't get the result I want with watercolor, like it lacks of something. I thought it was just a skill issue because I was still a beginner. Oh now I know why I prefer mixed media than watercolor alone.... I like the crispy color with some blended parts, I like the little lines here and there for texture, I like the clear little white highlights. I just never liked the full rendered-kinda-realism piece 😂 glad to discover this by watching your video tho🥳💖

      i'm happy to hear! i feel like I'm still constantly discovering and honing in on my preferred way to work, depending on what my desired outcome is! I find watercolour limiting in terms of extracting all I can with colour (due to my own limitations in skill) but depending on the style i'm going for I still love using watercolours :)

    And you also opened my eyes a bit as to why I'm never happy with my watercolour pieces: I create mud too! I work in so many layers that different colors start to iverlap to the point where it just turns brown. Maybe I should try using acrylics, or at least a more opaque medium too :O

    Your work is always so beautiful. ❤❤❤ I love how you use acrylics in thin layers here. What do you use to thin it down? I have a little background in watercolor and have always wanted to use acrylics more like this but I'm not sure what products to use. I was told by some other artists to not thin acrylics down too much with water. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you for such a beautiful video of your process.

    So here's my honest opinion in many ways this piece works , however I feel it's more cartoon style and less realistic to ideals such as shadow and light , my suggestion is to remember your light source ( the moon) and remember that white , yellow, pink , orange and red for light areas and green, turquoise blues, and purples are dark or shadows the colour selection should help to make the piece less flat and really pop I was confused why some areas facing the moon would reflect this colour theory and others would not; I appreciate the fact you chose a watercolour paper , the thin washes of colour , opacity ,and renderings however again I think this piece could have been that much better with colours reflecting the shadows and hi lights in a more cohesive way 👩‍🎨 keep at it! You got the right idea and I enjoyed watching and hearing your thoughts while creating this piece!

    • @annalarose5392
      @annalarose5392 10 місяців тому

      I feel like anything out for public view is open for discussion and debate the reason I mentioned what I did was because she had said there was a point where she wasn't sure what to do next and wanted to render the image to make it look more realistic and not flat my comments share how to achieve this. I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings I only said.what I said because I too bad to remember where the lighting is coming.from or things of that nature when I was an art.student , I was also a art peer tutor helping others and wanted to share my knowledge perhaps it could help future art - if it's not liked creator of post can delete my comment(s) I won't take offense

    Whats the difference between working with acrylic like watercolors vs working with acryla gouache or just plain gouache ?
    I tried acrylics a few years back but i nearly ripped ly hair out because of how fast it dried

    • @ChrisHongArt
      @ChrisHongArt  11 місяців тому

      I haven't tried acryla gouache yet but I imagine it's fairly similar to using acrylics in this way! But using gouache is very different since gouache reactivates, so I'm not able to glaze and tint colours/values as I go! (which I find conducive to how I like to work - in lots of layers!)

  • @dastinky1085

    Love the painting and how you color all your pieces! How's watered down acrylic compared to gouache?

    • @ChrisHongArt
      @ChrisHongArt  11 місяців тому

      good question - it's super watered down initially so that it's translucent like watercolours, but since it's acrylics I can do a lot of glazing early on this way as opposed to using gouache (since gouache reactivates)
