Pt. Birendra Kishore Roy Chaudhury - Raga Gandhari (Sursringar)

[NOTE: After listening to the recording I found that this is an old form of Raga Gandhari. Not the Gandhari Todi we know with both the Rishabh. Chalan is lot like Jaunpuri but the ascent from Sa to Komal Dha says it's a perfect Gandhari. Listen to Ma-ga(ko)-Sa-Re-Ma-Pa, Sa-dha(ko)-Pa
{Another thought is there was a lesser known Prakar of Raga Devgandhar which takes a mix of Dhanashree and Jaunpuri but no Rishabh or Dhaivat in Arohan.}
So this one is indeed Gandhari obviously a pure form NOT Gandhari Todi]
Pt. Birendra Kishore Roy Chaudhury depicting different steps of Alap, Jor and Jhala of Senia Beenkar gharana in Sursringar.
He was a legendary musician/scholar of his time, though being a Raja he was not a professional musician instead he was a patron and supported many famous musicians of past days. He learnt from 18 different gurus and acquired a distinct knowledge of the valuable ancient forms of music. He was also a Guru to famous musicians like Pt. Jitendramohan Sengupta, Pt. Amritalal Bandopadhyay, Pt. Ajay Singha Roy, Pt. Nikhil Bandopadhyay, Pt. Subroto Roy Chaudhury and Smt. Jaya Biswas. He also taught Ud. Vilayat Khan for some time.

rather complex raag! rendered leisurely, and with great resonance. i liked the singing tone in the upper svara-s.
