An excellent example of a restoration project. My hat is off to you sir. I wish you’d have painted it back to black but I’m just sentimental. Again a great job!
Superb job my good sir ! You did a thorough job of the engine ! I cringe at the videos where they do a half ass job of a " rebuild " or " restoration " . Thank you . 😊

I remember my old go-kart being powered by one of these suckers. over 20 years of use and that engine never died. it was a wonderful restoration, although I would have chosen the original black color.

You should really follow the Briggs manual for reassembly, for the torque sequences on the side cover and cylinder head (you typically criss cross the bolts to tighten) and use a torque wrench
Fantastic video! I recently reworked the vertical drive version of this exact same engine, but my results were nowhere near as beautiful as yours. I need to convince my wife that I need a powder coat setup lol. I was wondering if you could tell me where you got the replacement stickers, as I have had no luck finding them.

On mine, one cam follower is slightly longer than the other. Are they always like that or are they selectively fitted to get the right valve clearance?
I have an old Briggs & Stratton engine to be restored. It is attached to an old tiller which also needs to be restored. It worked great for decades before its age caught up with it.
Do it bro! Garden tillers usually have very low hours on them and they probably just need a little bit of attention and a carb kit is always a good idea because stale fuel always mucks things up.
No, as long as the flywheel does not hit the coil you are good to go. I have a 5hp briggs that has a air gap as big as it can be and its been running like that for 3 years and no issues.
Pretty sure my childhood gokart (handed down from my parents childhood) has the same engine (minus the exhaust) - trying to get it up and running for my own child now...know nothing about engines so lots of youtube. What is the model for this? Trying to find a replacement carburator.
A lot of them are like that! Keep looking, the best low hours engine would be a garden tiller engine. Only used once a season for an hour(?) and sometimes not even that. Lots of smaller front tine tillers use 3HP
Get an ultrasonic cleaner bro. Makes no sense going low tech when cleaning the bolts at 19:20, esp after going high tech with the sandblasting and parts washer. 🤔
@luissonoma6255 "You're" is a contraction of "You" and "are". Therefore you are incorrect. Check your facts before you correct someone so confidently.
Nice, I like the little rotation it did on its own while it was running lol
YES! It was almost as if the engine decided to take a bow.
Fantastic job. I like the white paint job.
Thank you so much!
Right....the paint scheme is great!
Thanks so much for the great video. I just picked up a 1979 B&S 3hp engine. Looking forward to tinkering with it.
A beautiful resto what a pretty little engine that is now, well done great job

Haha I hate those half ass jobs. i have to admit I think the first few engine restorations of mine were like that, but I have learned alot from them.
Wow 💥 I'm doing one identical' to yours right now in my garage .... Mine hasnt got that cool little muffler tho' just a piece of 3/4 pipe. Where did you get those vintage' looking lables?
Thank you buddy, those mufflers can probably be bought from eBay. I had to make my own labels since most eBay sellers do not ship to my country.
Such an amazing job as always!
I think you used the eagle eye to set the points gap, very nicely done mate.
Nice job 👍
How much oil does it take? I have one for my leaf blower and I'm trying to change the oil, can't find any info on it. Thanks!
drain all the old oil, and then fill up until it's almost pouring out of the fill tube. That is the correct level.
Excellent work fella’! Love your channel!👍👍👍
Nice job. Runs well.
A wow beautiful awesome job
Nice touch, near the end

You did not eyeball the point gap. You used your 'calibrated' eye to set the gap! 😁
Exactly! haha

Great restoration as usual what do you do with all these little engines once you've done with them?
Beautiful craftsmanship. I would use a molybdenum (Moly) based engine assembly lubrication to protect the labor you invested.
Not needed if you fire it up right away.

Nice comment derek. I've never had a B&S engine let me down. But Tecumseh and Honda have both broken down on me.
Where do you get your replacement parts from? Especially the stickers?
I have personal contacts close to me that regullarly sell parts and I get the stickers printed profesionally!
Incredible video
Very nicely done 👍
I kept thinking that powder coating the kill switch was going to keep it from working... as soon as I noticed it.... I waited to comment.... I cant believe it worked! Not bad!
Nice job.
Very good job from France
As long as the engine is running you don't need the little turntable.
HI, good job... i have a one question, were are you take spare parts for the engine, and the ignition coil?
we are from Ukraine
eBay has a lot of spares.
Just curious...Did you check the valve lash and points gap when you assembled this engine? Thanks.
You should really follow the Briggs manual for reassembly, for the torque sequences on the side cover and cylinder head (you typically criss cross the bolts to tighten) and use a torque wrench
I've always wondered about something. Could a small engine fly wheel be copper plated to prevent rusting or would it just be a waste of time?
Yes I am sure it can be plated, I have seen guys chrome it.

Plain engine oil. I don't use assembly lube. I pre-lube the parts with engine oil. Works like a charm

No, as long as the flywheel does not hit the coil you are good to go. I have a 5hp briggs that has a air gap as big as it can be and its been running like that for 3 years and no issues.
Great work dear, but why you not dent the cover,,, the one corner is dent. Overall great work. Keep it up
do you have a part number for the air filter for this briggs?
Should have fixed the dent on the blower cover! You can tap it out with a round ended punch or use Bondo or even JB Weld.
Where were you able to purchase the decals?
Wheres the on/off switch?
On the top it has a lever that kills the spark by shorting out the plug.
Where did u buy the bolts from
Its the original bolts that I cleaned up and electroplated to give them the factory finish.
@AJRestoration is electro plating hard can this ve done at home
