Pipe Organ Coral (Tubipora musica) Care Tips

  • The coral I’ll be covering today are Pipe Organ Corals of the Genus Tubipora. They are not that uncommon but at the same time not a lot of people have them in their reef tanks.
I find that a little weird because they are some of the most beautiful soft corals out there. Pipe Organs can vary in appearance from something very similar in appearance to green star polyps to flower-like daisy shaped polyps.

I have one of these corals from Than and it is thriving in my Biocube 14 near the center, middle height with stock lighting. Beautiful coral!

I have the fluorecent green color. They grow quite slow I must say. Blasting the rock and the coral with a turkeybaster tends to help keep them clean. This helps in growth. This is my first coral ever, mistaken for gsp by the seller lol

I have the ones that look like gsp, I was new to the hobby when I got them and mistakened then for gsp. They are super sensitive to flow, at least the one I have is, if it's not at the perfect spot the polyps will be blown to harshly and close up, and or detritus will build in it. It took me a while to get it in the right placement, but when I did it started producing pretty fast, and it makes a great home for small serpent stars. Overall I wish I had the ones that look like flowers, these ones aren't even as good looking as gsp, but I do admire the way the grow kinda like a bush.

Wow. After this i have learnt that i have them. The LFS sold me them as star polyps. Mine are open everyday of the week but never grow. In two years i might have 5 to 8 new polyps. Thanks

About toxin, I think it's the same thing that occurs with Kenya Tree corals. I've owned one in a pico reef and it has killed my Hammer.

I have a pipe organ coral and it reminds me a lot of my gsp because of their long flowy ployps. I am looking for more of the flowery like ones as well. They are awesome. I love them

My emerald crab mowed down the center of my colony. I don't think it was eating it but searching for food and hasn't touched it since. It's a very fragile coral and can be easily damaged while handling.
