Excellent video thanks. I've learnt a lot. That's definitely 2 gaskets as they won't print on each layer. I'm guessing a previous problem. Maybe vortec related. Cheers
Question. Can a bad gasket causing a vacuum leak . Cause timing to act erratically ( advance and retart ). Haven't found anything visible up top. Thing it might be the manifold gasket now. Symptoms are. No power in gear. Hard start. Fluctuating rpm. But sometimes revs and idles fine in park.
Great video thank you. Can an intake issue cause coolant to exit tail pipe, milk oil and radiator bubbling? I plan on changing my head gaskets but i just wonder if the intake could cause the same symptoms?
This is awesome if you have the tach/dwell/shorting machine. Otherwise, you could have found an intake leak of that size with propane/starting fluid. Just make sure you have a fire extinguisher near by. Personally never had it go south but always have an extinguisher just in case
The intake leak was in the valley. I would have had to flow propane into the crankcase to discover it that way. This is extremely dangerous and I would not recommend this test under any circumstances.
I know this is a old video. However, if someone installed new intake gaskets and put them upside down. Would that cause a vaccum leak. And can make the motor backfire through the carb?
JUST HAD THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED WITH NO ISSUES STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DUAL EXHAUST PAPER TEST. PLEASE ADVISE THANK YOU ROBERT
The paper test shows a misfire. Try a power balance test on the 4 cylinders of the affected bank. Once you discover which cyl is misfiring, check spark plugs, firing order, plug wires, then do a compression test. Compression test is usually last.
Can a bad intake gasket also cause low coolant in the radiator and milky oil at the dipstick? I also notice my oil dipstick is now passed its max limit mark.
mine has milk shake both heads so I'm suspecting intake gaskets...would u agree? I can't tell in this vid if coolant got into valvetrain/heads. wouldn't it spread to them?
SIU :HAVE A 1980 C10 BIG 10 SILVERADO STOCK REBUILT 350 5.7 WITH A HEI DISTRIBUTOR HAVING ISSUES,JUST LIKE YOUR VIDEO. ON MY DUAL EXHAUST PAPER TEST. BANK 1 IS NOT SOUNDING AS SHOULD BE. DO U RECOMMEND, A COMPRESSION TEST? PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU ROBERT.
A power balance test will confirm a misfire. I would do that first. However, a compression test won't cost you anything and will let you know of any low cylinders.
can rod bearings go if they mix fluids, i had my intake gaskets done on my 99 tahoe and the engine seized up after 60 miles the mechanic told me he did an oil change 2 times so idk what happened but 2 days after i got it back from him the engine made a humming noise then after 60 miles it died
I mean if coolant(water) is mixing with your oil it’s gonna get cooked in your crankcase/cylinders/valve train so yeah after enough carbon and scoring to your bearings it’ll seize up, but 60 miles? Gotta be something else going on as well
The intake port gasket was torn, allowing the oily vapors in the intake valley to be drawn up into the intake runner. The oil entering the combustion chamber fouled the spark plug and exited the cylinder through the exhaust port, then out through the exhaust system.
Kool diagnostic tool 🔧 thanks for sharing your videos with us
Excellent video. The paper on the exhaust and the pcv vacuum test were new to me . Thank you .
Thanks Captain. We try to use what we got around here.
Good job professor Blaine! I like how you revisited all the tests after the repair.

Best video on this subject. Thanks !
Excellent video, very straight forward and educational.

Excellent diagnosis and repair!
great video on this issue

Will the manifold bolt break? Removing them?

Amazing video! Thanks for the lesson!
comprssion tester
have a sniff great job
Whats the part number on them elderbrock intake gasket??
Looks like he stacked 2 intake gaskets on each other? Seems like they knew this was an issue?
Just the one paper gasket that separated.
JUST HAD THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED WITH NO ISSUES STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DUAL EXHAUST PAPER TEST. PLEASE ADVISE THANK YOU ROBERT

That set didn't come with china wall gasquets?
Can a bad intake gasket also cause low coolant in the radiator and milky oil at the dipstick? I also notice my oil dipstick is now passed its max limit mark.
Same thing just happened to me yesterday
@@Smoketownedc me too lol. Im hoping its just the intake gasket and not a head gasket. It was recently rebuilt with only 1500 miles.
@@Smoketownedc so your coolant is low and overfilled dipstick due to coolant?

Would this solve a , oil in the radiator problem?
Very unlikely.
Did you ever figure out what that was? Have same issue.
good video my brother
Appreciate it

I think spun main bearing. Pull the motor and replace you will be time and money ahead.@@layne7742
Great video!
Thanks!
Brilliant!
Can an intake manifold leak influence a cylinder compression test?
Not directly
An intake leak could burn an exhaust valve and that could influence compression
How much would such a repair cost in time and money?
Back fire?
sure looks like 2 sets of intake gaskets were put on,
good job
سلام عليكم
great
How can a bad intake gasket cause oil consumption...makes no sense...
The intake port gasket was torn, allowing the oily vapors in the intake valley to be drawn up into the intake runner. The oil entering the combustion chamber fouled the spark plug and exited the cylinder through the exhaust port, then out through the exhaust system.
UR INTAKE IS MISSINGTHE TWO MIDDLE BOLTS WHERE THE GASKET SLIPPED
Vortec cylinder heads only have 4 intake manifold bolts per bank.
Just throw it away.
That gasket does not work for my 350 engine from a 1974 C10 The bolt holes are not in the correct place.
