Tank pets are primarily for soloing. Their usage in groups has always been highly situational. Now if you are saying he is weaker in that regard then that is disappointing.
I mean.. serious question for you. I don't play SMN often but does it have weaker defense than other jobs? Because other jobs can solo mobs just fine without a tank (minus the chocobo). So what is SMN actually losing by not having Titan tank?
@@StrikerTVFang Speaking as a SMN Titan was a horrendous tank, the only benefit was you could heal him. The chocobo with only a few tanks skills outperformed him easily.
Making Ramuh-egi, Leviathan-egi, and Shiva-egi simply glamours of the existing 3 egis and retaining their functions would be A-okay with me if they can't come up with 3 new playstyles for 3 new egis to make them different.
@@Shiirow Indeed. The reason it's taken SOOO long is because they could never get pet balancing right before. Contagion and Radiant Shield have gone through more changes than I change socks, and Titan has always been the odd-man out only ever being good for single-player content. Now that all the pets are somewhat more streamlined, with none of them being objectively better than the other (Aside from Titan who's STILL the odd one out, but still better than he was before), we may FINALLY start to see some more egi's.
Also a bit disappointed about Titan. I play casters and am fine with casters in general not having tanks (I like Black mage fine as it is). BUT, I also enjoy having a caster that does have a tank, as long as that tank is a good one. This is true of all games I play. The ability to move tank pets around, control taunts (some games), help out others in the game has taught me game mechanics I don't usually notice as a caster. One of the lures of FF14 for me was the ability to experiment with pets. I always key bind all pet abilities, and enjoy experimenting situationally. Being able to "tank" Fates in under-populated zones, soloing old content where a tank is useful, or using my tank to take aggro off another player struggling in a dungeon or Fate has always been part of the fun for me. Tank pets are one way to add variety to games without making that job OP in groups and raids, and it adds a depth and variety I will miss.
I mean if you read that first ability, it's a shield for 1/5 of your health... for 30 seconds. Since DPS aren't supposed to take hits unless it's raid wide AoE damage, or stack mechanics, it really sounds like swapping in titan to cast his egi-assault 1 for stack or raid wide damage is gonna be super easy, and very VERY useful as it'll make it so that SMN is suprisingly good at the beacon type of raid mechanics, where only a single person has to stand in the damage to prevent an aoe.
As a new player that just started playing last weekend and CHOOSING an arcanist/summoner for my base job, I was quite let down that "tank" specific summons no longer TANK. I just failed a level 15 arcanist quest 4 times because the quest *REQUIRED* your topaz carbuncle to *TANK* - and the little fucker didn't. You get all the aggro (but NOT all of them) for the most part - and the stupid healer in the back easily gets squished by the mobs that run PAST you and your pet despite your best efforts to grab them. The fact that I barely survived and was able to pass it after 4 annoying tries makes me think they didn't quite think it through when removing aggro from certain pets - because that quest sure as hell called for it. What's the effing point of having a pet-class if 100% of your pets are just extra "buffs" to make you look pretty and a free source of constant damage? I understand the need for streamlining Summoners due to those who more or less complained that micro-managing pets can be a pain, and are supposed to be DPS-centric on the whole as a class - but they should have just made pet aggro a toggle ability like what they did for the Marauders/Paladins to generate extra enmity. I haven't made it to max cap yet since I only just got the base game and am just learning the ropes, so I don't know if it's worth it to keep on going to become a summoner. After I was able to unlock moving to other classes, I immediately took up being a marauder and a ninja - because if I have to facetank mobs in spite of having a pet to distract the enemy when I quest solo - then I may as well get a job that doesn't need one. Heck, I don't even know if that was only a one-off quest where your summon was required to tank. This isn't a dis at Summoner mains, though sorry if some got offended by my opinion on a semi-old video.
I was really getting into SMN since I started playing it the last couple months... it will remain the level it currently is because I hate the way it plays now. Even with a maxed choco it can't keep hate and usually have to run away from fates that could easily be soloed with Titan tanking before or die constantly. Yay for those who like it good tho good luck to you with it and SCH. I've heard of those that had SCH as mains now converting to WHM.
@@xdarkknight670x That blows, bro. I am thinking of going Red Mage, myself when I finally decide to upgrade past base game. As it is, am adjusting to be more of a Marauder at the moment - though I just picked up a new job as an archer. I tried being a thaumaturge with a different toon, and the long cast times made me rethink it. How the hell did they screw up the pet class that much with zero pet aggro on the tanking pets? While some of the newer changes made them better, but it's no longer a newbie-friendly class since the arduous leveling from 1-30 is now a royal pain as an arcanist when your pet can longer help with survivability.
@@obsidiansands Right. I didn't read what the changes were at first just reset my macros and went at it and got my ass handed to me since Titan was no help. Was quite embarrassed to die in a fate I'd beat several times before and wondering why, found out when I asked my FC (some now former SMN and SCH). I went with RDM @ 78 and DNC 76 and going to work SAM in too. Like to have some back up jobs so I don't feel like I'm wasting xp when one caps out on quests.
@@xdarkknight670x Am still learning a lot myself. When I finally got my Topaz Carbuncle, I was effing shocked that the little bastard wasn't tanking - *AT ALL* - even when the quest specifically SAID to send the little guy out ahead to face the oncoming mobs. I didn't have an FC at the time and was laughed at when I tried to ask around in region chat if it was a bug with no clear answer until somebody was kind enough to explain that the recent patch hosed pet aggro. It was fucking retarded to do that for the only PET CLASS character in the game. I know the dps didn't come from pets, but jeez, if it wasn't for me quickly getting another job to try out I'd really give up on this game after I practically wasted 19 bucks for the base version since I liked the summoner path - at least until they fucking patched them with a pet aggro nerf.
@@obsidiansands Yeah that getting laughed at crap is typical when dealing with people who play like their life depends on it. I play for fun and look up some how to's, but I don't spend hours researching and studying the game with finals week intensity just to get 2 more damage points. It's usually the hardcore endgame folk... some are great and helpful, others don't have time for you if you have nothing to contribute to what they're doing.
That would be cool to be able to sacrifice your Phoenix pet and disable summoning a pet for a short time in exchange for being able to instantly raise an ally.
For me personally, I haven't used the chicken nugget since the lvl 50 job quest. I wish they made titan a bit of a debuffer or some kind of party support like a party mitigation or mp battery
I don't know how I feel about the titan change. I liked having two not-quite tanks with me out in the wild. I mean, aside from -being a Pokemon master- having a battle pet, I _kinda_ liked not being the target of attacks until a millisecond before my enemy dies. It's helped me survive things that I think I really wasn't supposed to, dungeons included. That's, like, 90% of the appeal for me when it comes to classes that use pets; _not_ taking damage. Otherwise I'd rather be a tank, because while I love pretty lights and colors and adorable nugget-shaped creatures, I do _not_ like watching my HP melt. That shield better be worth it, is what I'm saying. That and my vanity is going to force me to glamour all of my summons into topaz carbuncles now. I don't see myself using new titan outside of for the shield, but I refuse to give up the red-blue-green-yellow color scheme I have going on with the rest of my 'party'.
As always appreciate the awesome guides hyped to see all the changes in action in raids and stuff the streamlined pets and removal of annoying stuff is great cant wait to actually have a bit of utitlity with the phoenix healjng and titan shield kinda cool
It actually would of been neat if summoning Bahumut and Phoenix actually changed your crystal attunement so that your Egis swapped with each rotation. Start with Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda but after summoning Phoenix they change to Shiva, Leviathan, and Ramuh. After you go thru your rotation and summon Bahamut again your crystal affinity switches back to the original 3. Your actual skills and rotations would not change, just a way to add cosmetic flair to summoner.
I'm hoping they eventually make a UI menu for Egi-glamour similar to what they've done for Bard's performance. More than likely they'll add something for Dancer to do something alongside performance first though...
Great job on these videos, man! SMN had been my main since the beginning, and I'm MEGA excited for these changes! It'll probs bring me right back to the class. :D
I'm not sure how I feel about these changes. Some sound good, others not so much. I think I'll need to try it out for myself first. Too bad Titan can't tank for you anymore though. It was mostly for soloing, but could help if your party was in a pinch sometimes.
Welp, time to jot down new rotations without potion openers. SMN HYPE THO, Finally a more quicker and streamlined DPS and no need to care for Pet's HP anymoreeee. (Tho RIP Titan Tanker, we'll miss you, but forgotten eventually)
There could be a demi titan, demi shiva etc.. all with various buffs or attacks. This would make the summoner as we remember it in FF11 in the ff14 flavor. I already enjoy SMN so this is good, can't wait.
Exactly, titan has save my ass from time to time. Now its pointless for those who like to solo sometimes or all the time doing fates when there is no tanks around. Also for farming on SMN for hides and other mats for crafting.
I like a lot of what I'm seeing (especially the ruin potency buffs. Hot diggity dog thats the kinda potency i like). Only negative thing I'm really going to complain about is not needing to use Aetherflow to go into the trances. Now they seem kind of disjointed from the rotation and are kind of just there as additional random cool downs.
I still wish the pet summons were more like how a bard rotates through songs. You summon a pet for a set time and when the time is up they use some kind of ultimate attack before leaving and going on a cooldown. You'll be able to summon a different pet at that time. But i like these changes as well.
There are actually news about egi-glamour. In an interview with CGM, yoshida said expect an update about it earliest at 5.1. Here is link: www.cgmagonline.com/2019/05/29/final-fantasy-xiv-shadowbringers-2019-media-tour-interview-with-naoki-yoshida/
i like these comments asking for other summons for example lets say summoning Demi Bahamut or Phoenix gives you a stack where instead of switching back to Garuda, Ifrit, or Titan Egi's you switch to Shiva, Ramuh or Leviathan the longer you keep your rotation the longer they stay on the field dealing more damage.. That said i'm already fine with the changes just want a little more skill level to SMN..
Overall this makes your Aetherflow skills more free to use instead of having to line everything up, and it makes death MUCH more forgiving, since the resources are separated from the trances and it's only a 30 second CD to get Aetherflow up and running again.
So I have been giving this a lot of thought. The way it is explained here I can one of two things happening. 1. We are made to go DWT>Bahamut>FBT (I assume this to be the most likely). 2. We only start the fight with basic DWT and every trance following that one will be FBT. Back in SB both DWT and Bahamut lasted 20 seconds. If this remains true and the devs allow us to count FBT as DWT(which by default would grant 2 attunement stacks) then in theory it should go something like this... DWT(DWT@60)>Bahamut(DWT@40)>DWT@20 & Bahamut @40>FBT(Bahamut@20)>Bahamut (FBT@40)> FBT@20 & Bahamut @40. If this is to be true SMN will in theory constantly have either Bahamut or Phoenix up with a 20 sec gap where neither is there. Any thoughts on this because this is a very interesting theory i thought about?
agreed with the whole demi primals things. i can't stand the egis, to the point that i use carbuncle over them because it doesn't look an animated piece of play-dough
I love these changes, but part of me kind of wishes the demi summons all just shared a recast and you got to pick the one you wanted to use. Just a minor complaint but i think it would be more fun to have a breadth of summons to pick from instead of a handful that you have to cycle through.
If they changed SMN to no longer be a Pet class with egis and only demi summons, it would solve a lot of trouble. Every summon would be like a stance that lasts for a few seconds, the same way bard did. The skills you had would depend on the summon and you would chose according to whats best for the situation, giving you a kit to work with.
There’s more to life than raiding and rotations, y’know. I like having my egi’s outside of combat because I’m a role player. They can fit in my house without bumping into walls, and their design is a mix of cute/cool that lets me describe them as I want for the story I’m telling. Don’t you dare take that from me.
With all those changes to the "job summons", how did they change the Arcanist's Carbuncles? Since the topas carbie was our tank pet, like Titan for SMN.
I thought i was pretty set on playing Bard going into ShB...then i see this video. Everything i hated about SMN seems to be gone, and we're left with this beautiful myriad of spell casting and primal power. God damnit
Anyone know if Bahamut still derps around trying to hump your leg and interrupts any skills trying to hug you, forcing you to stay still while it's out?
Man, while some people got hyped by phoenix and while some are sad for titan not being the tank pet anymore i am thinking just one thing Is it just me or with these changes, SMNs overall damage output almost literally doubled?? I mean, by what i saw at happy's screenshots, using all the Ruin spells on enemies with both DoTs pretty much cause them to do double their original damage, and the fact that Bahamut or Phoenix are much more accesible now (there is the fact that they dont do their AAs out of your ogcds anymore, but still) At this rate, SMN can have DPS equal or even higher than BLM/SAM while maintaining their support spells?? Holy crap???
Damn Garuda AOE Game is STRONG AF!!! In a scenario where your facing 5 enemies “trash mobs” Garuda Auto attack = 40 x 5 = 200 Egi-assault I = 60 x 5 = 300 Egi-assault II = 220 x 5 = 1100!!! “If all enemies stayed for the duration of Evergale” That’s just Mind Blowing what if you faced a bigger mob say 8 or 10 this is insane!!!
There should be a demi-behumet for each eggi? right?! The tank egi should be different like that of a extreme 24-man raid. The one in the dessert that drops down those pillars. If they bring new egis will we use the same demis?
It's weird that Egi Assault specifically lists Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan actions. What is going on with Carbuncles? Are they gone? Do they work the same way? Are they just glamours now? Weird.
BY THE GRACE OF YOSHI-P!!! HE'S FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE SUMMONER A SUMMONER! Seriously, I still can't believe it's taken them like 6 years to figure out what to do with this job. Unbelievable. Still, it looks great and I'm excited to give it a try.
I'm happy with these changes. Haven't even gotten SMN to 70 yet, but it just feels so clunky and convoluted. With the skill consolidations and not having aetherflow management as such a core concept (don't get me wrong, it'll still be important, just not the crux of your entire rotation), it'll really lower the barrier to entry. Also, while I'm sad Titan-Egi can't tank anymore, I'm really happy to see Ifrit- and Garuda-Egis have their own distinct roles.
I have never seen a messier "rework". The biggest problem with this rework is that DWT and FBT share both buttons and Cooldowns. So SMN pretty much still has a 2 min rotation. Only... since FBT summons Deni-Phoneix at the same time as the Trance, that's.... 40 straight seconds of downtime with no Trance and no Demi Primal out of every 2 min. What's really annoying is that the downtime could be fixed by either having Demi-Phoneix be summoned after FBT like Demi-Bahamut is, or if DWT and FBT didn't share CDs. But since they do... SE pretty much took SMN's problems, fixed some of them and gave them a whole new set of rotation problems.
So what you guys think about mch and summoner changes? Will mch dps be better than summoners? Or close to summoners? Or is it still lacking and the top 3 will still be blm, Sam and Smn?
I sincerely doubt they're going to change that, they would have to make an entirely new base class for one of them and a whole new set of quests and its just more trouble than its worth.
@@shadenox8164 I believe they planned to make all the jobs start at base level. But tbh I'm pretty sure that's either just a rumor or an off-hand mention at one or their streams or something

@@StrikerTVFang Speaking as a SMN Titan was a horrendous tank, the only benefit was you could heal him. The chocobo with only a few tanks skills outperformed him easily.
@@shadenox8164 which is beyond absurd. SE's incompetence is staggering.
I loved summoner previously, but I will adore these changes.
Egi Glamour updates coming in 5.1. I can't remember which news outlet got that info. But it was in an interview with Naoki Yoshida.
Physick still giving 800hp heals x)
Making Ramuh-egi, Leviathan-egi, and Shiva-egi simply glamours of the existing 3 egis and retaining their functions would be A-okay with me if they can't come up with 3 new playstyles for 3 new egis to make them different.
cosmosofinfinity ^This. I’ve been waiting ever since 2.0 for this. There must be forums or something on this topic, right? C’mon, how hard can it be?
with the changes, they could easily do that now.
@@Shiirow
Indeed.
So SMN has a 2 part rotation of Demi Primals. I'm okay with that. Imagine if this continues in later expansions
Final expansion, King Bahamut comes down and destroys the world as the last thing a summoner does.
i like that phoenix does some support healing
As it freaking should! Imagine if it had a rez though? Or an auto rez/pre-rez.
@@cosmosofinfinity That would be great actually if the expansion showcased more healing intensive fights like they keep promising us.
Don't worry Titan. I still like you. (And will likely use you when soloing)
It was a great until I saw Mr. Happy use Fester with not dots up. I had to rewind and was like, "BOI." 🤣 I'm late to the party but great video again!
@@obsidiansands
Right.
@@obsidiansands
Yeah that getting laughed at crap is typical when dealing with people who play like their life depends on it. I play for fun and look up some how to's, but I don't spend hours researching and studying the game with finals week intensity just to get 2 more damage points. It's usually the hardcore endgame folk... some are great and helpful, others don't have time for you if you have nothing to contribute to what they're doing.
Why did I expect Phoenix to have some low key raising ability lol.
That would be cool to be able to sacrifice your Phoenix pet and disable summoning a pet for a short time in exchange for being able to instantly raise an ally.
@@Mikeo9090 Yeah something like that, not that it needs to do that but maybe that's why it's demi phoenix, it doesn't have all the powers.
@@Mikeo9090 but then without the raise debuff penalty.
They should replace the smn raise with Phoenix raise.
Don't know how to feel about loosing Titan tanking and contagion... we'll see this plays out.
For me personally, I haven't used the chicken nugget since the lvl 50 job quest. I wish they made titan a bit of a debuffer or some kind of party support like a party mitigation or mp battery
Wait, no more tank pet? That sucks D:
Iiiiiiiii like these changes. I like these changes a lot.
This makes me want to try SMN again for the first time in years. It looks way flashier and more focused on actual summoning.
Tank is probably the worst class if you don't like watching your HP melt, you're the one who has to take all the blows for everyone else.
@@shadenox8164 I'm pretty sure tanks can take 50 hits instead of one. That's why they're up there taking said blows instead of the squishy mage.
As always appreciate the awesome guides hyped to see all the changes in action in raids and stuff the streamlined pets and removal of annoying stuff is great cant wait to actually have a bit of utitlity with the phoenix healjng and titan shield kinda cool
Egi glamour was confirmed at the earliest 5.1 by yoshi in one of the interviews.
which tells us nothing tho
This is great to hear. I might be interested in playing Smn once again!
Great job on these videos, man! SMN had been my main since the beginning, and I'm MEGA excited for these changes! It'll probs bring me right back to the class. :D
i wish egi assault was named blood pact instead
I'm not sure how I feel about these changes. Some sound good, others not so much. I think I'll need to try it out for myself first. Too bad Titan can't tank for you anymore though. It was mostly for soloing, but could help if your party was in a pinch sometimes.
I'm really gonna miss my titan
Titan was a horrendous tank, train your chocobo just a few levels in tanking makes it more resilient than Titan was.
Can't use chocobo in main scenario dungeons/boss fights. Admittedly, some bosses focus you automatically but not the adds.
I already enjoy SMN so this is good, can't wait.
yay Titan went from somewhat useful to practically useless.
I was gonna do dancer but I LOVE the summoner changes..such a hard decision.
I look forward to it
Super happy with the direction SMN is taking! Let’s hope they give us Demi-Ifrit/Titan/Garuda next expansion, then the job would be PERFECT.
There are actually news about egi-glamour. In an interview with CGM, yoshida said expect an update about it earliest at 5.1. Here is link:
www.cgmagonline.com/2019/05/29/final-fantasy-xiv-shadowbringers-2019-media-tour-interview-with-naoki-yoshida/
i like these comments asking for other summons for example lets say summoning Demi Bahamut or Phoenix gives you a stack where instead of switching back to Garuda, Ifrit, or Titan Egi's you switch to Shiva, Ramuh or Leviathan the longer you keep your rotation the longer they stay on the field dealing more damage.. That said i'm already fine with the changes just want a little more skill level to SMN..
apparently Yoshi P said news on egi glamour would hopefully be 5.1
very excited for these changes
Soo yea going summoner, I'll level dancer after I finish 5.0, really don't want to wait.
So if pets cant be targeted anymore, you loose titan as your solo-play tank?
Yes, you will lose your tank.
Overall this makes your Aetherflow skills more free to use instead of having to line everything up, and it makes death MUCH more forgiving, since the resources are separated from the trances and it's only a 30 second CD to get Aetherflow up and running again.
Why is Physick still a thing?
SMN Main Heals of course
Arcanist, its for arcanist.
I’m excited for this. This is my second job.
Awesome vids Happy!
agreed with the whole demi primals things. i can't stand the egis, to the point that i use carbuncle over them because it doesn't look an animated piece of play-dough
The Titan shield should not be underestimated. I've found myself switching between pets a lot now and I feel like a true summoner
Can you dwt out of combat since it doesnt require aetherflow usage? does that mean you can have bahamut ready for prepull???!!
I thought i was pretty set on playing Bard going into ShB...then i see this video. Everything i hated about SMN seems to be gone, and we're left with this beautiful myriad of spell casting and primal power. God damnit
SMNs going to be sooo good as a main.
I wish they’d give us another permanent egi. Make them all elementally viable. Add a small leviathan for bosses that are weak against water, etc.
I so can't wait!
so it's now 4 aetherflow per minute, nice
Outraged that Shadow Flare is gone... But I guess Garuda-egi somewhat takes up that function now.
Anyone know if Bahamut still derps around trying to hump your leg and interrupts any skills trying to hug you, forcing you to stay still while it's out?
What about Ruin II? Do the spells now straight level up like Stone or Malefic or will it still be a weird action just sitting on my hotbar?
Ruin II's icon was on the bar in the video. I would assume if he didn't mention it its because it was unchanged.
Man, while some people got hyped by phoenix and while some are sad for titan not being the tank pet anymore i am thinking just one thing
Is it just me or with these changes, SMNs overall damage output almost literally doubled??
I mean, by what i saw at happy's screenshots, using all the Ruin spells on enemies with both DoTs pretty much cause them to do double their original damage, and the fact that Bahamut or Phoenix are much more accesible now (there is the fact that they dont do their AAs out of your ogcds anymore, but still)
At this rate, SMN can have DPS equal or even higher than BLM/SAM while maintaining their support spells?? Holy crap???
Comin' up, comin' up, comin' up! Summon up, summon up, summon up!
Damn Garuda AOE Game is STRONG AF!!!
In a scenario where your facing 5 enemies “trash mobs”
Garuda Auto attack = 40 x 5 = 200
Egi-assault I = 60 x 5 = 300
Egi-assault II = 220 x 5 = 1100!!! “If all enemies stayed for the duration of Evergale”
That’s just Mind Blowing what if you faced a bigger mob say 8 or 10 this is insane!!!
There should be a demi-behumet for each eggi? right?!
The tank egi should be different like that of a extreme 24-man raid.
The one in the dessert that drops down those pillars.
If they bring new egis will we use the same demis?
I feel like maybe the 60 s dread is bit to long but I guess we will see
Mr happy having issues with ps4 SMN im just level 30, but it seems not doing proper DPS thanks
It's weird that Egi Assault specifically lists Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan actions. What is going on with Carbuncles? Are they gone? Do they work the same way? Are they just glamours now? Weird.
Carbuncles aren't Egis? The skill is called Egi Assault making it clear its a SMN skill not an ACN one.
Wake me up when I can summon Ramuh
Soooo what changes into Brand of Purgatory again?
Sounds like Garuda is gonna be the number one summon for trash mobs ilfirit for bosses
which sucks, looks like I will need to glamour ifrit now too, that model is bad.
SE pretty much took SMN's problems, fixed some of them and gave them a whole new set of rotation problems.
same rotation but they shortened it a bit to add firebirb time.
So what you guys think about mch and summoner changes? Will mch dps be better than summoners? Or close to summoners? Or is it still lacking and the top 3 will still be blm, Sam and Smn?
Is Rouse action remove when shadowbringers patch '~'?
Welp gonna miss my insta Ruin III spells, and 4th pet skills :/
Otherwise I like the changes. Guess I'll stick with SMN all the way through
Abu Hurairah ruin 3 will still be instant during dreadwrym trance, it reduces all spells by 2.5 seconds which still makes ruin 3 instant

Do SMN and SCH still share the base class ? Meaning will they both level up with ACN if it is still in the game? Great work on the vids btw.
As far as I know they still do for now but that is planned to be changed to seperate them more as classes
