  • You are in for a treat as we're joined by special guest, Ms. M of @ms.m_closet, to tackle the world of buzzwords for teachers. From the latest teaching acronyms like STEM, PBIS, and RTI to the special terms that only teachers understand, like "differentiation" and "formative assessment", we're diving into the lingo that can make teaching feel like learning a new language. We also have some fun sharing our own hilarious experiences with buzzwords and ways we've tried to incorporate or exile them in our classrooms.
    To close out the show, we play a quick game of "Name the Acronym!" that will have you rolling with laughter!

    We used to play buzz word bingo during PD. We secretly pass out bingo cards before the meeting. When someone got bingo we’d awkwardly stand up and stretch. Admin at the time never caught on.

      At my school, we called it bull s**t bingo. We actually wanted to get up when we got “BlNGO” and shout “Bulls**t!”. I think your idea is better. I’ll pass along your idea to my friends that are still working. I’ve been retired since June of 2017….

      This is a good insight into how our students have misunderstandings because we don't spend much time defining words well or learning how conjugation works in our first language. Students often don't get enough information to truly understand.

    26:32 the stairs thing for Tell makes sense, because he was / is ADHD and climbing stairs feeds into the tactile and kenisthetic physical stimulation, it satisfies the sensory input that hyper active people often need, plus the need to explore which satisfies the curiosity and that part of the brain that craves the need to ''figure things out'', see whats up there, whats on the other side'' .

    It's equity for me. When you're in an majority POC school of course they're going to see scientists, and academic figures who look like them. But to make education equitable for ALL students that's going to fall under legislation. I can't possibly teach a child chemistry who is reading on a 5th grade level and who did not understand basic algebraic concepts, but has been passed to the 11th grade... and now you have them i. chemistry. Equity will not exist in that instance

    My highschool had flexible seating, they had a ton of chairs and foldable tables, and if you needed them you could set them up but if not you could sit wherever you wanted. I sat on the concrete floor for 3 years before they made me sit at an actual desk but it was the best.

  • @artanimeandothershtuff965
    @artanimeandothershtuff965 Рік тому +1

    for flexible seating (as an 8th grader): i like to be comfy for stuff like reading, being at a desk for note-taking, and I need to be slightly uncomfortable to do writing (sitting on the floor, on one of those really pointy school desk chairs but with my feet on the seat and my butt on the back, etc). I also really like sitting on top of desks, especially for watching videos and talking to teachers. ALSO (yes, there is more, because there's always more) my teachers are really good about giving stuff to kids who are being good. For example, one of them gives out candy to people who are behaving, and whenever I get them I hoard it in my pencil case for when I'm falling asleep in class :)

You do not know how sad I was when my favorite vintage stone spiral staircase was replaced with a crappy metal one that had that had one of those little areas underneath it.
