A couple came to my prom in their actual wedding dress and tux because they got married earlier that day. It was wild. Those pictures are now in my yearbook.
I have to share this story. I came from a small town and we had an annual high school dance held in a church gym. One year, the church didn’t allow the school to have the dance there because of what happened the previous year. Someone brought a chair into the middle of the dance floor and girls started giving lap dances. Like other high schoolers were throwing money at them while they were doing it. The chaperones saw and stopped them, but obviously it had already happened and EVERYONE heard about it. 😂
At my prom we had a hypnotist. There would be students who would volunteer and then at the end, the hypnotist would do a thing like ‘you won’t drink and drive, or text and drive, or no smoking.’ It was different every year.
Our school didn’t do after prom however they did a lock in after graduation. It cost money to go, they literally locked you in until 7am but you didn’t have to go to school the next day and it was an excused absence if you were at the lock in. There were all sorts of carnival type games, dunk tank, money vortex, different movie rooms, gaming rooms, different food options that were catered in. The main entertainment was a hypnotist!! They would take 20 people on stage and ask them do wild things. He could 100% tell if you were faking and he would tap you on the shoulder and ask you to leave.
Every single year for prom our school hires a hypnotist. Hypnotizm is like my worst fear. I haven't gone to prom yet, but my friends who have gone say they get hypnotized in the audience even if they weren't playing along. Hypnotizm is genuinely terrifying Edit: im in Minnesota
Courts for my High School were Homecoming, Tomahawk and Prom. Tomahawk was a track & field event that every year that my High School hosted. The song for coronation and announcements of court for Homecoming, Tomahawk and Prom was on piano “River Flows in You” by Yiruma.
This is so wild to watch having grown up in the UK... we have prom at 17/18y/o- so the oldest kids may have passed their driving test but not everyone has. It's totally legal to drink, all the kids have been for years, so as long as you're subtle about things, teachers are happy for it to be a free for all and its a lot messier than in the US by the sounds of it..... Lets just say "Grinding" is not something anyone is worrying about or would even attempt to police.
As someone who grew up in south Dakota (although I'm from the west, and superior, side of SD) I can fill vouch for Gabe in the hypnotists at post prom/homecoming. It's a common form of 'entertainment' that schools like to hire. Not sure why though.
I'm a Christian school graduate, so we had banquets instead of proms, since dancing was evil. 😂 Our after parties were always at the richest kid's house, who had an indoor pool and hot tub. There was plenty of adult supervision. Lol
We had a hypnotist at Project Graduation! It was fun! (Project Grad was hosted by the graduation class. We fundraised all year and rented the Rec Center all night and then had snacks, could swim, hypnotist, ice skate, play games, etc.) 😊
Bri's wedding dress story!! 😂😂😂 My story: I had gone home to WA for the summer and my fiancé came to visit me. I had gotten a puppy while I was home visiting my family and working to earn money for the wedding. So I was like "I am not hauling a puppy and a wedding dress back to MN when the summer is over" so my solution was to send my fiance back to MN with my wedding dress. He said hauling a wedding dress bag onto a plane with no bride in sight was quite the conversation starter. 😂😂😂
I hated my prom themes, junior prom was Hawaiian and senior prom was New York City and the decorated with graffiti. I would have mush rather had a masquerade or something that was pretty, romantic, and elegant.
I'm from Iowa, and the staple of our After Prom used to be a hypnotist. We would start with games in the gym and then have a performance in the auditorium by a hypnotist. Sometimes, there would be a comedian or magician instead. I think they just play games now and don't have a performance.
28:55 so…. Sounds like a potential for date grape allegations & lawsuits…. All about liability concerns! (In no way implying that hypnotism can cause or be a reliable defense against crimes or liabilities) but shady people do shady things.
We did not have a hypnotist at afterprom but we did have a hypnotist at post graduation, which was school sponsored but planned and put together by parents of seniors.
I didn't go to prom (🤣🤣🤣), but I chaperoned our elementary school's family dance (instread of daddy-daughter or mother-son) and I was working / guarding the door . When the DJ started playing very innapropriate music. I had to RUUUUN across the cafeteria to tell the DJ to cut it off as all the parents were saying ooooooh! Also, random strangers were walking up tp the door and asking if they could come in... uhhhh, no!
For my senior prom me and my friends borrowed one of my friends, mom’s Cadillac Escalade and on the way to prom hit a big pothole that was so big the 5 foot one person hit their head on the roof
I went to me and sr prom with a random kinda sorta friend each year and then spent the evening socializing with teachers because I got along with them better….then we had post prom at the ymca until like 6-7am…we had karaoke, bingo, inflatables, giant tricycles, giveaways, and pool access…I only went to proms so I could go to the post proms…
Yes afterprom there was a hypnotist there for us as well! Also in my college we had welcome back/start of school year week and one night was a hypnotist. Guess it was a midwest kinda thing lol
our dances are at school during school so we will have it in our regular middle school clothing and it is 1:15 to 2:30 and then we have a basketball tournament during it and in the main gym we have a DJ and music in the cafeteria we have snow cones and board games and in 2 teachers classrooms we have rock painting and reading and we get wristbands so if you do something bad a teacher takes your wristband and if you get caught again with no wristband you get kicked out I like it because we have things for the kids with autism who don't like the loudness of it and also snowcones are cool also in high school homecoming after party, they do axe throwing because we live in the country
They had a hypnotist at my High School graduation party. I hide in the other room because I wasn’t doing that weird thing. Also our prom did the hole promenade thing too. It was a small high school.
i live in PA and we still do an after prom from like 12:00am- 5:00am. i dont know if they theme it my brother didnt say but there's a raffle for a ton of prizes and theres games and everything
I find this so interesting, because my prom was organized by the student body, in an external location to the school, with 0 chaperones and an open bar (legal age for drinking is 18 and anyone younger had a bracelet indicating it, which was completly ignored, honestly). South Dakota isn't ready for Europe
In my town (rural canada) its been tradition to arrive at prom by either the coolest mode of transport they can find or the fanciest oldest car rather than limos. The dance happens at the hockey rink which shares a field with the small airport (which becomes overflow parking lot for grad and prom) so my year one couple did come by helicopter but i guarantee they didn’t pay for it lol theres always a group that comes in a fire engine, theres old muscle cars, old police cars, a couple girls rode horses. Another thing was you could drive yourself to prom (certainly looks cooler than mom or dad driving haha) but your vehicle had to be driven away by an adult to discourage after party drunk driving. And the hypnotist was definitely a nearly annual thing 😂 and i’m around Lauren’s age for reference
🤣 Electric Slide, all my 90s peeps? Soulja Boy was like.... 2006? 7? I know in July 2009, my 3 year old picked it up from a bunch of teenagers. Edit* She was born late in 2005, she's going into her senior year of HS this coming year.
Grew up in Jersey so after prom we all go down to the Jersey shore for the weekend. Get some rooms or a house for the weekend. It's nice. Our theme was "Under the Stars" so basically night time lol. It was cute. We had it at a fancy hotel in one of the halls. (to be clear it sounds super expensive but you can get a group rate and find cheap rooms close to the beach. there is def an affordable way lol). Clothing: To Tell's point about a rented suit. Young men should invest in a tailored suit. Just to at least have one good suit while in high school/college. Furthermore, when getting married: The only correct answer is a tailored suit. I can't lol. You are a grown man getting married look the part. Again, there are super affordable options and ways to do things (in this economy it's hard to keep up with instagram/pinterest).
This year I had my senior prom and we had a hypnotist at our after prom😂 funny thing I live in Minnesota but we drove to sd for after prom 😂😂😂 we rode buses there it was a trampoline indoor park
I actually went to two homecoming and one prom. I moved to a different state and had a homecoming there and prom. I left my prom early over my friends not finding me during prom. I think it was like an hour into me arriving at prom
I went to high school in Utah and we had a hypnotist at our senior lock-in. (Where they lock the seniors in the high school from like 9pm to 3 or 4 am, Chaperones are there). Love this podcast!!
I didn’t go to prom in my school because you had to pay $80 for a ticket PER PERSON and it was just held in the gym and the food provided was like hotdogs and burgers. What was the money for?!
I graduated in 1999 so our prom theme We're gonna party like it's 1999, Thank you Prince😂😂 Our proms were at different venues, start and end time. When we left we already had planned which parties we were going to and had a change of clothes for when we got there lol. You all look flawless and sstunning
I remembered my ex and I broke up a week from homecoming. My ex brought a girl that my group of friend and i hated as his date. We all glared at him. We left after one hour and went to the bowling alley. We bowled and ate Dennys. I was in my junior year of high school. 😂😂
Glitter is Satan sprinkles 🤣...Gabe we didn't have a hypnotist at prom but we did at grad blast so maybe it's a regional thing. Didn't seem that odd to this Minnesota girl
Michigan afterprom we had a hypnotist and like 3 guys were obviously faking and one dude was a closeted gay but we all knew and he ended up singing its raining men.
My first homecoming our tickets were like $50 and we only had a DJ. Someone stole the money from our tickets and we didn’t even have anything to drink or snacks. The vending machines were out too so we were all just stuck in the gym and thirsty for like 3 hours 😂. I can look back and laugh now but I was so mad at the time
A couple came to my prom in their actual wedding dress and tux because they got married earlier that day. It was wild. Those pictures are now in my yearbook.
You mean they were still in high school and got married??
This is the funniest group of people I’ve ever witnessed. I’m belly laughing constantly
Right?? I’m going to get abs from laughing sm lol
Also from SD! We definitely had a hypnotist more than once!!
The phrase " boys are from Mars" was born because of Gabe. He cracks me up lmao
We had a hypnotist at our post prom. School paid for it too. They had a casino game night with the hypnotist
We had a casino themed prom the teachers literally dressed up a dealers

For my junior year I wore this beautiful pastel blue/pink & purple, ballgown it was so gorgeous
Our school didn’t do after prom however they did a lock in after graduation. That’s terrifying why on earth would they do this
I'm not an expert or anything, but I'm 97% sure you can't be hypnotized against your will.
bring earbuds
Courts for my High School were Homecoming, Tomahawk and Prom.
Tomahawk was a track & field event that every year that my High School hosted.
The song for coronation and announcements of court for Homecoming, Tomahawk and Prom was on piano “River Flows in You” by Yiruma.
Bri looks soooooo good!!!!
Soooooo dang good! Go bri!
Present day and retro Bri are beautiful and classy!
She’s sooooo beautiful!
I just came here to drool over Gabe. Yes, I love everyone and could enjoy the audio version of this, but… like… DAMN.

I can second this
I'm a Christian school graduate, so we had banquets instead of proms, since dancing was evil. 😂 Our after parties were always at the richest kid's house, who had an indoor pool and hot tub. There was plenty of adult supervision. Lol

The wild grain ad after Gabe started talking about the no grinding rule I legit thought is said wild “grind”
I hated my prom themes, junior prom was Hawaiian and senior prom was New York City and the decorated with graffiti. I would have mush rather had a masquerade or something that was pretty, romantic, and elegant.
I'm from iowa and our school, and every school around us has a hypnotist.
24:16 my school did the same. Every couple was announced but my class only had 42 kids and we were a huge class for our consolidated district
My class has 5 kids
27:19 lmao we had a hypnotist my senior year too. Must be a Midwest thing. I grew up in rural Nebraska
I am from Minnesota and i can confirm the hypnotizing thing at prom is real 😂
I'm from Iowa, and the staple of our After Prom used to be a hypnotist. We would start with games in the gym and then have a performance in the auditorium by a hypnotist. Sometimes, there would be a comedian or magician instead. I think they just play games now and don't have a performance.

Already know this episode is Gonna be amazing 🤣
This is my comfort channel
We had a after graduation party, and we had a hypnotist every year and it was always the highlight of the night 😂
We had a hypnotist too! Pretty sure they still do every year! 😂
The grinding though yes 😂😂 that’s all c/o 16 did
We did not have a hypnotist at afterprom but we did have a hypnotist at post graduation, which was school sponsored but planned and put together by parents of seniors.
As somebody from South Dakota Gabe is completely correct, there has been a full blown hypnotist at every single one of our proms!!
someone dumped some glitter on my head before, I was sparkly for like a month after that.
I live in Michigan and had a hypnotist at my senior all night party 😂
I’m obsessed with these outfits guys 😍
Is there a reason y’all haven’t posted anything on TikTok?
I already listened to this on Spotify but had to pop on here to see your clothes!

Not after prom, but my School Sponsored "after grad party" had a hypnotist 😅
After prom, my friend and I just went to Denny's (restaurant).
My junior year prom was Masquerade and my senior year prom was Enchanted Forest
I can't with Bri😭
For my senior prom me and my friends borrowed one of my friends, mom’s Cadillac Escalade and on the way to prom hit a big pothole that was so big the 5 foot one person hit their head on the roof
As a few Yankton High agradguate can comfirm everything, we totally thought everyone had hypntist at every after prom.

I had a hypnotist at college, too. Not at prom, though, lol. I'm in the southeast.
I'm from East Tennessee, what's the point of the hypnotist for a prom?
GLITTER IS THE BEST, I WANT IT EVERYWHERE >:D
our dances are at school during school so we will have it in our regular middle school clothing and it is 1:15 to 2:30 and then we have a basketball tournament during it and in the main gym we have a DJ and music in the cafeteria we have snow cones and board games and in 2 teachers classrooms we have rock painting and reading and we get wristbands so if you do something bad a teacher takes your wristband and if you get caught again with no wristband you get kicked out I like it because we have things for the kids with autism who don't like the loudness of it and also snowcones are cool

I was so scared when no episode came out last week!
My older sister, barely 5 feet tall had a cupcake dress with 20 layers of tulle!
I do want to say that at our prom in Illinois, we had a hypnotist. Also it was a Catholic school
We have hypnotiztist at our proms as well - I live in the daktoas
I find this so interesting, because my prom was organized by the student body, in an external location to the school, with 0 chaperones and an open bar (legal age for drinking is 18 and anyone younger had a bracelet indicating it, which was completly ignored, honestly). We had no food at my senior prom. I was sad and very hungry.
I remembered my ex and I broke up a week from homecoming. My ex brought a girl that my group of friend and i hated as his date. We all glared at him. We left after one hour and went to the bowling alley. We bowled and ate Dennys. I was in my junior year of high school. 😂😂

Michigan afterprom we had a hypnotist and like 3 guys were obviously faking and one dude was a closeted gay but we all knew and he ended up singing its raining men.
Class of 2021 didn't have a prom. Covid ruined so much of our highschool experience 🙃
I did not have a prom due to covid my junior and senior year. 😢
My first homecoming our tickets were like $50 and we only had a DJ. Someone stole the money from our tickets and we didn’t even have anything to drink or snacks. The vending machines were out too so we were all just stuck in the gym and thirsty for like 3 hours 😂. I can look back and laugh now but I was so mad at the time
glitter is the herpes of craft supplies - you can never get rid of it!
I wore a princess dress to prom and i regretted nothing
