  • SCALE WEATHERING HOW TO: In part #4 of the 1/24 Butch Hartman project, I'll show you how I add some scale weathering in the form of mud and dust effects to the lower chassis. As well as adding dried mud using the hairspray chipping method, and wet mud onto the dirt track tires and wheels using pigments.

    A real treat to see a more organic side to race car modeling as opposed to the highly polished and finely finished models we are used to.

      I used to mix my own too. This stuff is great. And very easy to use. I just wish it came in a smaller package. I'll never use half of this stuff! Thanks for watching.

    Very cool techniques. Is the "wet look" detail supposed to mimic the look of water coming out from the rim area? Thanks for sharing all this wonderful knowledge with us. Really enjoying watching your builds come together

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  2 роки тому

      Correct....like in the old days when you used soapy water or something similar to get the bead of the tire on the rim, then it leaked out. Something like that.

    Just awesome!!!! Clay I love the vids your putting out. One question. What brushes do you prefer?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  2 роки тому

      I actually just buy cheap packs of fine point brushes at Hobby Lobby. When they go bad, I just get new packs. I try to keep the tips as sharp as possible.

      @@ClayKemp what did you mix the flat earth with that you sprayed on the tires to thin it down for the brush?

  • @bocephus5206

    Question...if I don't have an airbrush, could I apply a thin layer of the Tamiya flat earth with a brush, and continue with the rest of the process?

    • @ClayKemp
      @ClayKemp  6 місяців тому +1

      If you don't have an airbrush, I would use a sponge and dab on the color. It is quick and will give you a nice random pattern.

      @@ClayKemp Hi again Clay! The pigment worked out great for the tires. After a week or so, it is pretty soft and comes off on my fingers when touching. My question is, would a dull coat (or any other coat) work to solidify it and protect it from coming off? Thanks again for your time!
