I personally love it. The best players are still likely running 2 bars, so while it makes the average player much better, those at the top are still more powerful with 2 bars.

U sure about those “best players” you speak of? They’re running it too, the ring is op and everyone wants to wear it. No one is using 2 bars at the moment unfortunately, the “best players” use their head and slot werewolf as their ultimate that way they have access to another bar but they’re all running this ring atm

Most of the vet players I know are running it because it makes combat more efficient. The constant uptime for ultis and major buffs is more than worth sacrificing the few skills that that were used mainly to gain these buffs in the first place. (In PvP anyway). The ring isn't a bad idea in helping those who struggle in maintaining buffs, however, I think that some of the majors should be adjusted.

This just isn't true. A large segment of players will always go to the easiest build. The top players are running this because the ceiling is higher than normal with this ring, just like the floor

@@iamunknown5116 The okensoul ring is definitely not used by the best players in PvP for werewolf. Its descent to play werewolf with imperial stam sorc, but every other class mostly not really. NB, Temp are the ones whom benefit the most from this ring due to their high damage spammables and abilities. DK and Sorc work well with the ring but have a slight draw back. Necro and Warden are ok with the ring, but dual bar with these classes are better. Overall the Okensoul ring provides solo or average players an optional tool that helps them compete with those who are "good players" that have mastered bar swapping, animation cancelling, and running strong sets that proc with timing. By that, good players will use the ring, not due to needing it, but because for them it is likely easier, and on top of that they will only run it with the strongest classes and set up they can thinker of; niche builds per say.

Not sure this is true. You can't get anywhere near the mitigation, ulti regen and buffs using 2 bars. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make my sorc dps better with two bars than one bar plus the ring.. And I consider myself an experienced player.

Me, too. Like a lot of people, I spent a lot of time acquiring it as soon as the expansion was released, but have hardly used it since. I belong to guilds that won't even allow its use for parses, so that's another disincentive. It's all moot, though, in the long term, because Zos will almost certainly nerf it in the near future, and after that probably few people will want to still use it. I mean, if they "balance" it in such a way that most people find it makes content harder than easier, what would be the point, and I'm not sure how much they can "tone it down" without that being the end result. It's probably too late for ESO, but hopefully Zos has learned its lesson and with their next MMO will have the stats split for pve/pvp.

I wanted this years ago as it gives us more meaningful variance, tradeoffs - benefits vs costs, and adds depths overall. The buffs can be easily & appropriately balanced to ensure fair gameplay. And who doesn't like more choice? Kudos to the Devs for proactive gameplay design, vision, and guts to bring additional change.

I'm a oldster...and I love one bar. I want to enjoy the game...and experience extreme immersion. I don't want to constantly worry about bar swapping. I don't feel overly powerful with Oakensoul, but I feel empowered to try more difficult content that I KNOW I couldn't even handle before. I don't like grouping very much unless it's with hubby because of prior experiences with groups (in other games). Most people don't seem to know how to play as a team, I guess :). It's a challenge that requires smart, even-tempered, good-intentioned, and reliable players for success. I'm enjoying the game so much more now. I have more confidence. I'm happier in my pve experience.
I'm not a pvp player unless I'm forced to be, because of a festival or some other requirement, so I'm sorry if it messes with that...but I've never understood making the same ruleset for pve and pvp anyway...since they are two divergent paradigms. The playstyles are different.

I am an average player with less than average gear and CP, but I also have arthritis and carple tunnel, so constantly bar swapping on top of having to focus on keeping 2 bar buffs up every few seconds is just excessive for me to handle. Has it helped me in PVE? Yes it has, a good bit. Does it cure my arthritis and allow me to play for hours on end? No it doesnt, but it does help allow me to play for more than an hour at a time.
However it has done literally nothing for me as far as PVP is concerned. I worked my way up to what is considered a meta magplar pvp build, and I tried several BGs and spent time in Cyrodiil. Even people not using Oakensoul rips me to shreds in a split second during 1v1. Granted I probably just suck at pvp, but it doesnt change the fact that this ring does nothing for me in pvp. @@VhnoriValmos Most people didnt claim that it would make people with disabilities or "bad" players gods in PVP. On the contrary, its not a surprise that it didnt. Its not the first time that ZOS has thrown a completely broken set in the game "to help raise the floor". And its always the same outcome. All those sets enable completely broken builds when they are utilized by people who know what they are doing, not by people who dont. The set that is supposed to help you compete with a better player doesnt do that because that same set helps the better player A LOT more than it helps you. Thats why im saying its a failure. The issue of helping people with disabilities and new players lies a lot deeper than just a broken set.

As someone that plays solo content exclusively, I welcome the Oakensoul Ring. It has allowed me to obtain buffs that I would have never seen otherwise. I could see them restricting its use in PVP, but can it really be called OP if it's available to everyone? It's not like it's exclusive to only one class or set of players. If you have access to High Isle, you can get the ring... and get it relatively easily too.

I actually noted down how I died each time during PvP last night: 4/7 times were oakensoul gankers, 2/7 were oakensoul DKs with 15k whips in corrosive (in the middle of groups). 6/7 of the times I died in a 2 hour PvP session were
pretty much deaths due to oakensoul ring..
It becomes not fun when its like that - the deaths feel unavoidable and like there's very limited counterplaym I hope some kind of solution is found because I still really enjoy the ring for PvE and think it's a great idea when 2 bar builds are still more DPS. But when it's against other players it kind of sucks

i have disabilities that specifically cause problems with audio and visual processing. i cannot complete most veteran dungeons and i die in most group world boss and events like harrowstorms or volcanic vents. i've never completed any arenas at even the normal level. my brain gets overloaded with information very quickly and basically starts just randomly firing and processing things that aren't even happening. i'll just physically be on the wrong bars, fighting the wrong opponents, or even not fighting opponents! it feels similar to right before having a seizure ("auras" but i only get seizures with cold medicines so far). because of this most of what i do is just exploration, story or just repeatedly doing things i love like finding treasure chests. thanks to massive power creep, i finally beat darkshade caverns 2 veteran with a group just this year, and i've been playing since early access beta. i finally got oakensoul and am waiting to finish levelling up a character to use it with. hopefully finally i can access more content like normal dlc dungeons without dying constantly.

heya i just wanted to say thanks for all your great vids. something i just discovered, you may want to add it in the info you present so it gets out there. it is possible to get leads from surveys. in other words i got the lead in glenumbra from doing surveys. this was really useful for me, because i do a lot of writs. i had 16 glenumbra surveys stacked up. on about the 8 one i got the lead for oakensoul part. also, you might know this already, but if you have multiple surveys you can just walk about 100 feet away after doing one, walk right back, and all the nodes have refreshed. so if you wait til you have a stack of like 10+ you can collect a lot of mats in a very short time. if you have already put this info out, forgive me. thanks again for all the good info in your videos

Let's be honest it was added to be a casual battery, if you don't have casuals playing your game the game dies you need a few aspects in the game that allows them to participate. The problem with making a complex game is that over time players who aren't fully dedicated to it will get discouraged and will find something else to play.

So ive been saying for years that they need to change how sets work based on which instance youre in. because currently oakensoul is perfectly fine for pve and too much for pvp so nerf it when youre in a pvp instance and leave it alone in pve based instances. more work? yes. but also the only way to truly have "balance" in this game.

If they nerf it I will be extremely upset and probably go back to other games. there’s just too much damage and too many zergs to enjoy playing solo without this mythic. you do lose a little utility, but that’s nothing compared to the frustration of not even being able to swap bars with lag and poor server performance.

I think there is something to say about Oakensoul in that it does limit your versatility of a two-bar build. There is a challenge to maximizing the one-bar build for different types of content. My own challenge right now is using a one-bar build with Oakensoul to solo PvE. I am running a 2h Stamplar (my own personal choice). But because it's a one-bar, I find myself swapping builds when dealing with different types of content a lot more than with a two-bar build.

Was quick to take it into pvp with some theory crafted builds that i had came up with. Quickly realized that the ring does not compare to a full end game pvp set up. I can pop ball groups with one of my normal builds. The sustain issues that are caused by going mostly damage on the one bar ring are the same issues you'd have if you switched to a more sustain set up, yes you'd have more survivability. However it just does not compare to a real end game pvp build. However it is very nice in pve. Hope this helps any higher end pvpers who had some animosity about getting it.

I am disabled, and I see it ideally as an accessibility tool to allow folks to play one-bar effectively without being overpowered.
What I mean is that I respect the effort that high end players put into the game to push the envelope (whether PvP or PvE). When I was younger and faster, I was primarily a raider in games like EverQuest and pre-Cataclysm WoW.
What I would like to see Oakensoul do would be to expand the pool of PvE content that can be completed solo by folks with accessibility challenges, and put us in a situation where we can do enough damage to not get kicked from group content without being a direct challenge to folks that are on the cutting edge. So maybe like 75-80% of the output of skilled two-bar player, or something like that.
I'm not enough of a PvPer to address what parity would look like in that realm.

  • @Tommy_The_Gun

What Oakensoul did is it "exposed" lack of skill/ability balance in ESO &. Basically, if an ability has certain power level, - Oakensoul multiplied that by 2. Some classes with different skills, simply synergies better with this ring. DK for example, with Heroism buff can potentially have almost 100% uptime on Corrosive ulti. This ulti makes them hard to kill, but on top of that, they have "maximum" penetration, as this ulti also ignores the armour for direct damage skills. Is ignoring armour permanently fair & balanced ? Well... I guess not. Same with NB that can almost literately spam incap. Is Incap OP ? I guess not, but "spamming" it ? I guess it is OP.
The irony is that ZOS listened to the feedback of the community. ESO community wanted Oakensoul to be useless for WW. And it happened. The only buff that is more or less relevant for WW is Protection, as they already have others. But the issue is that WW is already balanced around 1 bar. So on top of strong passives - you also have serious drawbacks (too long to point them out here). But, other classes, that don't have WW passives and were never suppose to get them as permanent buffs - can now have them. Oakensoul is basically a "Werewolf inside a mythic". It provides same (and often stronger) buffs that WW has as passives. The difference is that you stil have access to all your other passives, and can use any skill & ulti you want. None of those skills were ever designed with that many strong buffs running permanently in the background. Same thing would have happened long time ago, if for example, Werewolf was not limited to just WW skills. Oakensoul basically shows, what would have happened If you could use any ability you want in WW form. It is madness, and I am actually avoiding PvP right now lol.
Note: I have it (the ring), but I am not using it. I wait till it gets nerfed, so I would know what Am I standing on, and then I can think of a build.

I personally enjoy the oakensoul ring for casually going through fast paced content, turning lazy mode into lazier mode. I've used it in overland with gryphon's ferocity and adept rider to run around at insane speeds if I'm going to go through a public dungeon/delve where I can't bring out my mount and I'll still clear enemies at the same speed because of what the oakensoul ring does to compensate the sets I'm using.
I also use it in solo-duo normal dungeon grinds when I just want to fill my stickerbook or get the quick transmute crystals from a random. Heck because of all the defensive buffs it works out when I use it to tank on a 2 hander by using inner rage as a taunt while using other sources of breach and if the specific content is too intensive for that I can pull out my armorer and turn myself into a real tank on the fly.
TL;DR - I like blitzing easy content with an even more braindead setup.

Late to this conversation, but just started playing ESO in Sept 2022, enjoying support roles (Healer / Tank) and don't even have a L50 DPS toon at this point. I'm interested in some gear that is only offered as PvP drops, but a PvE Healer that is decently (not even greatly) equipped jumping into a Random Group Battleground is just stupid - I die almost instantly in any game mode, can't get into a rhythm, and spend over half the match waiting to respawn and being a liability to my team - even though my match score is on par with the top half of players in a match.
Greatly interested in seeing if an Oakensoul PvP build for an off Meta Templar can occasionally compete, but have a long way to get through Mara's Balm or Rallying Cry to get there on random unlocks *if* I am not in last place.
Add to that I'm personally not even highly interested in PvP and you get a wretched experience for new players. I wish there were better ways to at least start the journey.

Also with console the lag is atrocious and almost unplayable at times so to try to bar swap to a needed ability that needs to happens within seconds that you don’t have to worry about now is just something that needed to happen with a platform if it can’t keep up with the demand of the game. I think the worst of oakensoul is that it limits class design. From now on everything the devs would overhaul a skill or class identity or even create a new one, they would need to keep in mind the oakensoul every time so that new strategy they create, wouldn't be unbalanced because of this ring.

I agree, but also I think its worth having the Okensoul ring as it is in the game. As an endgame PvPr and PvEr and with discussion with others alike about the capabilities of this ring. Its very strong, but no stronger that what already exist and it provides a more ease of play for many people. For instance, hardcore groups of PvPrs and PvErs already get literally all the buffs or more (depending in content, but for the most part) While keeping dual bars. Difference, it requires an assembled team of players to accomplish this (more common than what one would think). The game balance is already either overly nerfed or strong, theres no in between. just look at all the old mythics and even older overland items and craftable sets, only crums of the same bread are still viable. Additionally, something to take account to how unbalanced the game is, top players use on top of strong builds, animation cancelling. Very strong, very hard thing to master where even I thought it was some sort of cheat, but its really an unintended feature.

I'm a solo player for the most part, so to me the Oakensoul Ring is one of the best things to happen in ESO for quite a while. Also swapping bars on console can be quite a pain, which makes the Diablo-esque setup with one bar and only six active skills a breath of fresh air. I agree that it needs to be nerfed in PvP, but i hope ZOS find a way to do it without affecting its PvE potential.

I play with my dad and hes not exactly quick on the controls but he still loves to play. Ive helped him make a one bar build with oakensoul so he can enjoy the game with better simplicity

I like Oakensoul for my Magcro. But not on my Stamplar, I prefer Sea Serpent.

I come under the heading of the physical disability category. When I finally get the Oakensoul Ring, it'll help me a ton.

I definitely like major heroism is the greatest pvp offender on oakensoul. Having ults like corrosive armor, necro transform, Leap, Toxic Barrage. There are alot of ults that for the average player will auto win a fight and when people get their ults up fast without necessarily needing to be in combat it is quite unfun. I feel like Major Heroism should be removed from the item and if it is still too strong then maybe Major Force or Berserk.

I know this vid is oldish now but in it's current form, I think the ring is great. It's helping a friend of mine find her feet in the game and it's not being over-used, I'm still on 2 bar and most people are. It's just a strong ring for newer players. Pale order is still crazy strong too but I don't always run that on solo either

I feel if they made a couple of the buffs PVE only but still keep some where it can compete in pvp it would be perfect. Like the critical and armor should be taken out of pvp in my opinion which still allows the healing ro help make you Tanky I feel would make it just as balanced as it needs ti be

I used it and in two weeks I stopped using it. It got me to practice my rotation which once I got it to a good status I was able to go back to my two bar and I am very happy. It's basically a tool to improve my gameplay.

i only came back to the game because this ring. i played a lot of game with more than 2 bars but eso is the only game i have to swap them and cant see all the skill cool downs it was so annoying i quit the game way back then.

simple have the mythic locked out and restricted in PvP. Most mythics have some sort of draw back. But Oakensoul doesnt. i dont see the loss of the second skill/weapon bar as a negative enough.

That's a cheap fix, they should instead figure out a proper nerf for the pvp aspect.

have not gotten it yet but tbh I am feeling my age simple animation cancels are beyond me and the micro managing of buffs is annoying me reason why I had loved the always on buff sets so I am hoping this will let me fall in love with the game all over and give me time to master animation cancelling weaving :D

I'm a one bar build so any buff to my build is great for me so I think great for the community. It gives you options. Your not locked into playing two bar builds and gives you more choice.

It's a money grab. Whenever a new chapter comes out it's the same thing. A very OP item or set that you can only get if you buy the DLC, but gets patched just in time for the next DLC.

I agree with everything you said. I just feel like as an average player I'm stuck to running cals on my oaken nb. This is the only way I seem to have been enjoying this new patch. Ever since this new patch it seems that it has been very difficult to kite on my stamsorc and get kills I have been getting burned down easily by these oaken ball groups its very annoying or maybe its just me idk.

For players with limited play time and want to play how they want this ring is great. It also raises the competition for all players which is good. I hate to say it but overtuned almost sounds like it means more open accessibilty for average players. I used it to get through harder content but like bar swapping with the kilt more.
