    This is just physics that comes with a self balancing device. You just made a positive feedback loop instead of negative - result is instability. You can possibly get the same issue in any other wheel by swapping the 2 phases. Explanation of what happens is that wheel frame sees tilt and wants to correct but the motor rotates in opposite direction so the correction has basically wrong sign and adds to the tilt. The problem with V12 is that you can easily mount the motor reversed. Other thing is that never ever turn on the wheel while motor is not fully assembled to the frame. Always take out the battery connection first to be "safe". If you accidentally turn on the wheel with motor only partially screwed your wheel will rattle and self-destruct in a matter of seconds. Dont ask me how i know.

    Is the tire tread not directional, such that when you flip the motor you also have to reverse install the tire? Good info on the orientation, thank you,

  • @offbeatrobotics
    @offbeatrobotics 2 роки тому +4

    This is the nature of brushless motors, swap any two of the three phase wires and the motor will run in the opposite direction.
    An easy fix for this is color coded heat shrink.

  • @russellzauner

    That's literally a FW bug. If it is aware of which side is which, then it should be DAMN aware of when it's installed incorrectly.
    This is why open source. Then someone could simply fix the bug and people wouldn't get hurt no mo - and they should also key it so there's no way you can put it in wrong.
    EDIT: You aren't wrong bro, it's a really really really DUMB bug. You should attempt to file *mechanical* bugs too, so definitely file a CAN INSTALL MOTOR WRONG DIRECTION SUCCESSFULLY bug if you can file the first bug. If there's no option, put it in the description of the firmware bug because firmware is just programmable hardware so you can play dumb and dump a bunch of additional info in there they have to read if they open the bug report. Things like "you wouldn't have to fix a bug that wouldn't exist if the motor couldn't be installed backwards". FW engineers love seeing that stuff :-) it makes it not their problem and more people get engaged because nobody wants to do it. :-)

    That was pretty intense Chooch there should be a keyway opening on one side so it can only go together one way & not the other, as much as I like Inmotion, that's an engineering oversight! That should be addressed immediately! one other way is before ripping everything down, mark everything on one side with a simple L or R Depending on which side you start on, I realize you've worked on your own wheels for years & that knowledge can also be a false/positive, especially with the new technology in these Euc's leaves me to believe there's a different technique to work on them as well, and to stand along side you on the issue, the manufacturer should also put markings on their parts so the orientation cant be confused from one side or the other. One other thing I do when ripping anything apart is taking pictures of everything and reference these pictures when reassembling. Good luck Chooch in protecting your home & your 🐱

    I find it hard to believe that the permutation of the phase wires does not matter on any other wheel. I find it more likely you have plugged it in in a way that happens to work right every single time previous to this.
    The order the phase wires are plugged in determine the motor direction. The controller has no way of knowing if you've plugged it in correctly, this is true for all brushless motors with or without hall sensor. If you plug the cables in a different order than what the controller was configured with this will happen. I really don't think Begode would have developed some technology that would allow the wheel to automatically sense the new configuration, you've probably just been really lucky.

    • @Blox117
      @Blox117 2 роки тому +1

      he is saying he physically had the motor turned 180 degrees not the phase wires. so technically you can install the motor backwards as long as you swap the phases around

    • @lukasbremberg4365
      @lukasbremberg4365 2 роки тому

      @Blox117 sensorless is used by all wheels beyond a certain speed. The hall sensor is only useful when going really slow since the back emf isn't strong enough for the controller to detect the motor position at such low speeds. Regardless of this, the motor is configured to have the phases connected in a certain way, it has no way of knowing if you connect it incorrectly and will try to spin the motor as usual, which will then end catastrophically, as shown.

    • @Blox117
      @Blox117 2 роки тому

      @@lukasbremberg4365 he connected it correctly he just had the motor turned around.
      also, i was referring to it being purely sensorless mode. or at least that is what an article claimed about the s20

    • @lukasbremberg4365
      @lukasbremberg4365 2 роки тому

      @@Blox117 ok, i stopped watching after that part lol. Turning the motor the wrong way would have the same effect att plugging the cables in the wrong order.
      Also, I can 100% guarantee you that no self balancing wheel existing today or in the coming years will be purely sensorless. Sensorless simply does not work below a few mph, it would not be able to balance you at low speeds. Maybe it's using something else than a hall sensor, but the regardless, with the brushless motor technology available today, some sort of extra sensor is necessary to detect motor position at low speed.
      Consider most e-scooters, you have to kick and get some speed before the motor can start, this is because they have a sensorless motor which is unable to detect motor position at standstill or low speed.

A trick I use on the motor is. I put a peace of tape on the right or left side of the motor when you pull the motor and mark the side with a R or L. Then remove the tape as you put it back in. Works like a charm 👍 ride on!

    Hold on if you reverse the wheel the rotation will be the wrong way. That means when you lean it back it will go forward, the forward motion will make it tilt back even more and off it will go. I mark an arrow on the hub motor for rotation going forward. The reason I put the arrow is the frustration you get when you fit a new tyre with the rotation the wrong way. I didn't see anything that completely precluded it, but in any case with a couple 2x4's I could just clamp the wheel itself so it doesn't roll around while I'm dicking with it lol I thought you were gonna lose a finger for a second there. That shit HURTS...

    What's wild is that I watched this video before disassembling to change my tube. (Flat in less than 3km of use thanks to gnarly burr where valve stem hole was drilled) Yet I STILL installed the motor backwards. Thankfully I was sitting behind the wheel when it launched into my wall/and a few other items. I had totally forgot this video when putting on the front cover. Caught my finger in there and broke the tip. Lesson learned twice.
    Thank you for the unheeded warning Chooch!

    is the correct orientation like, the tire valve should be on the left side if you have the EUC facing the same way as you? (like riding position)
    is this correct? that's what I remember but now I have it disassembled and seeing this just want to make sure I'm right lol

    This literally happened to me. My problem was I put the tube in backwards so I aligned the valve stem with the case when it was initially wrong to begin with. The wheel got pretty messed up and I literally couldn’t turn it off. Once I put it in transport mode I was able to turn it off. I wish I had started with it in transport mode, none of this would have happened.

    You could probably put blue tape on the inside on the right wires and then put some on the right side in the inside housing on top. It would signify the orientation every time since the blue tape is on the right motorwires matching on the blue tape in the top. Probably would be easier to do for frequent maintenances. (Blue tape was just an example as you can use any tape.) Im probably gonna do this when I buy one very soon.

    I'm making paraglider winch with hub motor wheel, I had mine suddenly go to full speed when I was trying to program it, the thing took off across the room, kept spinning into the wall like a buzz saw, it was like something out of a james bond movie. These things have the potential to unleash a lot of energy quickly.

    3 phase motors would always do that unless the board calibrated on startup(uncommon) what is normal in manufacturing is having the connectors color coded or even better keyed connector so that they can only be installed one way. Great job I’m about to pull the trigger on this wheel thanks to you. 👊🏽
