That's actually really interesting to think about, and I agree! When people harmonize with themselves it creates such a cool sound because the blend is just naturally perfect, so I think it would be super cool to hear her harmonize with her old recordings because it's still her voice, but deeper. I wonder if she would still blend really well with herself despite her voice having changed register.

Elle, maybe there was never a person you were supposed to be. Maybe you are great just the way you are. By that I don’t mean who you are and the body you’re in is a fine second best. This is you. You is best.
I get you have regrets, that’s life and it sucks you picked them up so early. You didn’t ruin yourself, though. Your bright, powerful soul has been the same and will continue to be the same, no matter how you identify or how your body changes.

Rock ON Joshua! Couldn't have said it better. There's nothing "wrong" with being 'just Elle"...like at all! NONE of us have ourselves completely figured out...whether it's sexuality, gender, whatever...it's a continuous learning process....everyone struggles with different aspects of themselves and frankly, if they don't THAT's when something is really wrong.

Random comment here, but if you happen to like Janis...you really REALLY will like Beth Hart...a lot of ppl have no clue who she is...search her above and watch her. She's very similar to Janis in a lot of ways. Rough, not the shrinking violet in ANY way and she channels her talent from like some other artistic dimension. She's like if Janis and 70's Robert Plant had a baby and Alanis Morrisette was part egg-donor lol. I'll argue that Beth is better than Janis in some ways.

Artistry is not mimicry. The "Jeff Rolka" YT channel has great warm ups. And if you can take voice lessons and join a choir, all the better. All the best to you!

Raise your hand if you struggled to find the words for the effect this video had on you. First of all the way Elle is so loving to the 15-year-old whose voice she is appreciating, and her ability to describe the time and the decisions and the differences between her then and her now with clarity and without remorse. The apparent comfort she has shown with sharing all of the history and felt experience and willingness to walk the earth like the amazing human being she is, whoever that may be.

Seriously tho, holy shit, your voice was and is amazing. Yes, it is deeper now, but the beauty and clarity still shine through. You have better pitch control now, too. Maybe work on your falsetto, as I would like to hear it? 🤗
Also, I have never taken testosterone and my voice is hella low (I have practically a tenor range, plus I've worked on my lower notes because I sing mostly songs by tenors), so don't worry about it... the point is, you sound _good._ And it's not easy to say that about someone singing a capella in their car. 😅
Any time you feel like posting random singing videos, feel free 😜

  • @elisabethdaswani5110
    @elisabethdaswani5110 4 роки тому +22

In some ways this was a hard video for me to watch, because I was faced with the truth that my voice too has changed irreversibly through taking testosterone. In some ways though I'm thankful for it because you made me feel like that's okay :)
You're a good singer, whatever your range is, so I'd love to hear you sing more ^^
One thing I remind myself when I worry about my voice is that many women's voices get deeper die to menopause, pregnancy or even smoking. Maybe it's not to quite the same extent as testosterone can do but that doesn't make you any less a woman and lots of people might not notice - you can get vocal training to speak in a higher register, which might help in speaking settings :)
For me I was 18 when I started taking it. I developed a full baritone range but it seems to have reverted more than yours in that my range is much smaller since stopping taking hormones. Often I find myself reverting to that "soprano muscle memory" but no sound actually comes out. My singing range is about the low end of contralto/high end of tenor now. I'm working on my falsetto to see if I can expand it :')

  • @DrKristinaRizzotto

You have a beautiful singing voice and as a choir director I must say you should definitely join a choir or pursue voice lessons if this is something that would bring you joy. Music is life. Also, I understand what it feels like to mourn the voice that was lost to testosterone - in my case, going through male puberty as a trans woman. I never record my own voice unless I’m singing in choir, so I appreciate you being able to go past that and opening up your inner thoughts to the world. I don’t know what to say to help you feel better about it other than that your current voice is beautiful. Be well and keep singing!

    • @musicmama2864
      @musicmama2864 4 роки тому +3

As a fellow vocal music teacher, I agree! You should definitely continue singing. Your vocal production is very simple, pure, and unaffected. With a good teacher, your range will expand and it's hard to say if/how the tone will change. Regardless, the emotive quality you have is still there and is very powerful. Go for it!

I am here you tell you you can change your voice (reduce vocal fry, even get used to being in a higher range, etc.) it just takes practice & work! But nothing is impossible! You’re voice is amaZing now & could be even better if you took some sort of lessons, I promise💕 you have lots of potential, don’t think that because your voice changed it has lost all hope!

The grass is always greener on the other side and we always want what we don't have. Both of these definitely apply. You will have to find contentment with what and who you are! As for singing, acapella is very hard because it is difficult to stay on key. Your road is not easy because you seem headstrong and easily discontent. I am happy you've figured some things out for yourself and hope things will get easier for you as you continue into adulthood. If I had one piece of advice it would be to question your personal beliefs and don't assume they are set in stone. People may see things differently than you and maybe sometimes they are right.

I’m 31 and used to want to be a singer too. I regret smoking...I no longer smoke, but when I was your age, I had an amazing voice and I absolutely could have become a singer had I quit sooner or never started. It wasn’t even that smoking messed up my voice that much (my breathing more, if anything) but mentally, those choices fucked me up. It to9 away a lot of my passion because I was so ashamed in my choices and my decisions. Like I said, I am 31 now..and most people regret a lot of things, even way before you get to my age. The most important thing to learn NOW (don’t wait until my age to learn it) is to now let regrets get in the way of pursuing anything, learning, growing as a person, etc. Mentally and emotionally, once we can get past regrets and start learning to living not for the past or future, but truly being PRESENT and in the NOW, that’s when you will become the most happy. These three things helped me grow the most during my 20s- acceptance, open-mindedness, and willingness. Learning to become accepting of yourself, accepting of the truth, accepting of problems to overcome, accepting of circumstances that are necessary to work through, accepting of others for who they are. Learning to become open-minded..not trying to be the “director” of mine and everybody else’s life around me, being able to open myself up to many different perceptions and not being a “sheep” or what anybody else expected of me or even what ai expect of myself..opening my mind to new intentions and learning to believe and live in those new intentions. Learning to be willing..willing to do the hard things it took in order to change and grow..willing to be more confident..willing to see myself not through everybody else’s negativity and being willing to speak up for myself..willing to challenge myself in small ways to make new healthy lifelong habits, etc....being accepting of loving myself, open-minded to be able to love myself better, and willing to love myself even when I felt like nobody else did...that is a big one! I hope my words of wisdom can resonate with you in some way and offer you encouragement and hope! We don’t always know who we are becoming, but we do know that we want to be happy, healthy, and love ourselves and love life. Don’t over analyze the things about yourself that you struggle with liking and accepting..learn to accept and love the things that you are growing in! You will also continue to find NEW passions and new reasons for purpose...I found purpose in some of the most unexpected ways..ways that stemmed from illness/disease and spreading awareness. I am able to help so many that are suffering with (or aren’t even aware yet that they have) a disease (that you can’t seek medical treatment for or really go to any doctors) that I have. My experiences with it have been...well..awful..but at the same time I grew a passion for wanting to spread awareness and try to help others not have to suffer as much as ai did my first few years. You will continue to find new purpose in your life over the next decade, and when you keep acceptance, an open-mind, and remain willing, you will see that you spend a lot more time living your life rather than thinking your life away.

I feel the same! I used to hate my voice when I was a teen and now here I am longing for it (I was a choir kid basically my entire school life) I was always in the highest level choir, I had an amazing range. Testosterone wrecked my voice but the thing with singing is it’s a skill that can always Improve with practice! I always put female vocalists on when I’m driving and just roll with my voice breaks and gradually I’ve the months my range is climbing off. I love my lower range tho! Instead of sounding weak and airy I can hit low notes effortlessly and I don’t take that for granted (always take the good with the bad) once I really master increasing my range I will be such a versatile singer and I’ll love it but regardless, always song from the heart ❤️

Hi Elle. Your voice is beautiful now, and you use it very well. I feel fortunate that you share these deep reflections and intimate moments with us, because you're very wise, especially for your age. I also find myself reflecting on what might have been, and it increases as more of my choices move into my past. I'm not sure if I know how to deal with it either, but I'm hoping it becomes clearer as I figure out who I am.
Take care and thank you for the videos.

I honestly think that both your voice now and your voice then are good! I'd keep working on it and maybe get a voice coach if that is something you are interested in doing! Both singing is beautiful!

Moral of the story, we are NEVER happy until we are happy with who we are. I hope you get over the regrets, I can’t imagine how hard this would be to deal with. I think your message is incredibly important and I’m so glad your are brave enough to share it! I promise you you are saving someone else these same regrets. Your voice is beautiful then and now by the way. I kinda of prefer the deep beautiful voice you have now. It’s so unique and is now apart of your story which only adds more depth.

Reach through all the mess you might still feel and hold on to the beauty you can pull out from all of this. Your voice is beautiful and I think your voice now, has more feeling to it. You’ve come out a wiser person, you’re very within yourself now and you can hear it in your voice now.

I think your singing sounds better now, but not because of the tone, but because you sound more confident than you were when you were 15 and that comes with maturity and experience. But yes, you had a beautiful voice.

Wait! WAIT A MINUTE! YOU'RE SINGING CITY AND COLOUR! I'm in love with you, you have the best taste in music ever!
Also: Dont worry because with a bit of training you can easily get back to that! I'm a singer myself and I mean "Little Hell" is hella deep for a girl so I also used to struggle with it but practise makes perfect! And since your voice changed so much you can now hit the low notes and easily practise for higher notes! You got this❤

Thank you for singing!!! Please keep singing. Embrace the wonderful you you are now. Even though it might feel as if you’ve lost something, it’s only because you recall the past. You are both the young girl and the woman that you are. Your voice is rich womanly and gorgeous. Frankly I prefer a rich female voice.
FYI None of us are ever who we used to be when we were younger. I’ve tried to never regret my choices. Use what you have to be the best unique you.

Elle! Your voice is so not ruined! It's awesome!!! O!M!G! Develop that voice woman! You know, female voices change too. You don't know what your voice would have come to be. You're right, you had a lovely clear voice, but you STILL have a lovely voice. Take voice lessons again and wow! You are amazingggg!

Your voice is just as amazing now as it was before!! if you want to work on technique you can always find a voice teacher, or a SLP, but as a voice therapist I have to tell you, the quality of your voice is good! and voice is really a performative thing, there aren't rules as to whether you should sound higher because you're a woman...there are lots of women with deep voices and that is beautiful too :)
And I also think that there are no mistakes in the universe, maybe there was never going to be that "other path", and your decisions have led you to be who you are now, an amazing mature woman (with a very cool voice) who is helping others so much and learning so much from everything that has happened to you. I'm not trying to dismiss your feelings, because you are entitled to them, just offering my thoughts about it :) I send you a big hug

Different from when you were younger, but a very lovely voice to listen to! You have such a great ear and natural expression. So nice! The quality of your voice reminds me a little bit of Melody Gardot. Nina Simone has a very distinct deeper resonance- Fleetwood Mac, Etta James, Lana Del Rey, Peggy Lee, Pink....there are lots of different and awesome types of women voices out there, and yours is one of them! Keep singing!!

This is the thing... we never appreciate what we have when we have it. At the time we hate it. Then we look back and think wow, I was amazing! Why didn't I realise it?
If only if realised it then. That never changes! Your 30 yr old self will look back to now and think that. Then your 40yr old self will look back to your 30 yr old self and think that...
And so on and so on...
    Trust me. That never changes!
You'll never appreciate what you have as much as when you don't have it anymore. That's being human. That's normal
