Wooden Spikeball net here I come!
Really want to make a tamborine so this is very useful! Thanks
Cool, a handmade tambourine will be awesome!
Nice work, wondering if you could suggest a resource to build locking wooden bucket/barrel hoops. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you mean like building a wine barrel or a bucket? Both those processes involve coopering (putting an angle on the sides of the wood) and have different approaches. Wine barrels typically need metal straps and are bent with heat, a bucket (depending on the size) can be just be coopered. If you are wanting to build wood hoops for a barrel, I would suggest a longer scarf joint and pinning it with brass or wood dowels to reinforce the joint. You’ll want to use epoxy or unibond glue which are much stronger adhesives.
@@JShawFurniture no like the one I saw on Andi's workshop, he made a bucket and a really cool wooden straps or lock hoop, you should take a look it's beautiful and functional!
I see, that is a cool joint. He’s cutting a tear drop shape with a catch at the end. Then threading the wood through while steam bending. For making your own I would cut out the template profile out of leather or paper to get the catch right then transfer onto the Ash wood.
Thanks you very much for information !
You are welcome!
Great bending jig. Tried bending cedar and walnut strips today with limited success. I think that jig would help. Thanks
The jig makes steam bending a circle so much easier.
@@JShawFurniture I will try it out. Thanks
Nice job! Planning to make a thonet coat rack
That’s cool, The Thonet family were the best at steam bending and created some of the most amazing designs!
Excelente ,muchas gracias por compartirnos
Is it harder to do a bigger circle? I’m thinking of making a product with half circles.
Large diameter circles are easier to steam bend because the wood bends more gradually. A half circle (if not locked in) will have seasonal movement. To reduce this dry out the wood as long as possible with a heat box while the bend is still in the jig. Good luck!
@@JShawFurniture how do you make rattan hoop?
Where do you stand on shop tours? Love or hate? Can you see what my next question would be? Great video 👏🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Shop Tours are ok, definitely don’t love or hate em. What’s the next question?
@@JShawFurniture would you do a shop tour for us?
I walked right into that one. Ok, I’ll put it on the list of videos! Thanks Wayne, Happy New Year!

How much would it cost to make 3 hoops 20 inches?
For a 20” Ash hoop 5/8 or 6/8” would be $100 per hoop.
What kind of material are you using for a backer?
The backer for the steam bend is metal strapping. Some areas have tape on it to soften the edges
Hello is that oak you are bending? Thanks for the video!
This one is air dried Walnut. White Oak bends even better, especially if it’s quarter sawn, because it has very straight grain and thicker layers of lignin in it.
Can you please make video how to make rattan ring like 14 inches wide thanks
Certainly would be willing to but I don’t use rattan or have easy access to it. I imagine it would be a similar process
@@JShawFurniture thanks
I really like the Woodglut plans.
