Rest in peace LEGEND!.
I've never seen "Roots" or "An Officer and A Gentleman" , but I have seen my big brother Louis Gossett Jr in "The River Niger", "JD's Revenge " and "Enemy Mine". And a phenomenal guest appearance on "Little House On The Prairie". He was/is a gifted actor who never failed to show his diversity. One of the last memories that I have of him is with Cicely Tyson in "Why Did I Get Married, Too". They were probably in that movie for 5 minutes, but left an impression of what true acting looks like. Soon as you saw them as the older married couple, you were like "Yes!". I love you, Brother. And I Thank GOD for your life, gifts and talents. Rest Well.
Another general has left us! We honor you Mr. Gossett, prayers of peace and comfort to all who knew and loved him. He reminds me of my Dad! ❤️🙏🏽
I was fortunate to meet this Man back in the 90s what i remember is his kindness ive even tried reaching out to him to thank him im hurt RIP 🙏🙏🙏🙏
May he rest in peace God bless his family
Louis gossett Jr is one of my favorite performers of all time. Loved him in almost every movie I've ever seen him in. Love, the iron eagle series, love officer and a gentleman and he also did a movie called enemy mines with Dennis Quaid. That is a super underrated sci-fi movie. I love the fact that he played different parts and was pigeon, holed or stereotyped himself into any role
The principal was one of my favorite 80's movies 🎬. He was a great actor. He truly will be missed 😢
He was truly a blessing to all that watch him in his rolls in movies, t.v(REST IN LOVE,)😲😢😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔remembered always by family, friends, fans.
I had the privilege of meeting him years ago in Detroit! It was a moment in time that I will always cherish!❤

I also remember him making appearances on James Garner’s series The Rockford Files when I was a kid. His and Garner’s characters interaction use to crack me up every time he guest starred. Mr. Gossett was one of the greats.
RIP Louis Gossett Jr. o7
Favorite moment: "Grits, dummy!"
And all of the Iron Eagle movies.
Louis Gossett Jr. was an accomplished actor and activist. In addition to the roles he's played in major films, he also gave memorable performances in televised and independent films like A Gathering of Old Men, The Cuban, and The Book of Negroes. RIP Mr. Gossett.
Your one of the few people who has noted some of his unfamiliar roles. Thanks.
@@kevt3770 Thank you for your comment. I remember that Mr. Gossett released his memoir in 2010. I'm inspired to get a copy of the memoir to learn more about his life and the lessons he imparts to readers.
Fiddlar in Roots. That scene when he told Kunta after they whipped him "I don't care what they say or do to you your name is *Kunta* *Kinte* 😢👌🏽. That scene ranks up there with Denzel with the one teardrop in Glory imo I don't care what anybody says. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
😢😢With a heavy heart, Rest in eternal peace and love Sir. You are the best who ever did it 👍🏾❤️🙏🏽🌺
Rest In Paradise Great One. I know it's one of his more underrated movies, but Diggs Town has always been one of my favorite movies. His role in ROOTS was just next level though. #RIPGREATONE
His role in Officer and a Gentleman, inspired my to do a tour at MCRD San Diego 84-86. Followed that up with a tour of duty as "DI" / " CDI" at Officer Candidate School in Pensecola Florida 95-96.
I was also stationed at NSB Bangor 80-82 when they filmed Officer and a Gentleman on a nearby former Naval Base. Many of the Marines from Sub Base are extra 's throughout the movie.
Mr. Gossett motivated me in Roots and inspired in OAG. He was without a doubt a talented Actor. My favorite role was in Enemy Minds. " Your Mickey Mouse is stupid" still cracks me up.
Fair Winds & Following Seas

Semper Fi
PS:
I didn't know,if GySgt Lee Emery helped him with this role but The Late MyGyst Bill Dweyer ( spelling ?) was very involved
with his preperation for this role. MsGysgt was the Chief Drill Instructor at D.I. School a few years before I went through there. He was very known around The Depot.
He was the Marine in the Super Bowl commercial that had the famous lines " How come you don't write?". At MyGysgt Dweyer's funeral, Mr. Gossett sent a very powerful letter to his family , thanking MyGyst for his contributions to his success in winning an Oscar.
This is a shock to me because I just watched Roots back in February and I was so impressed with Mr. Louis Gossett Jr., role as Fidler, I researched his movies and now he dead.😮😔😭🪦 A great actor and human being has passed away but his impact and legacy will live on in our hearts to those who remember him.✊🏽💐
May you Rest In Peace 🕊️
I LOVED HIM So....😚💋💗💗💗
Loved him in Enemy Mine his autograph sits with pride in my collection RIP Mr Gossett

Officer and a gentleman is my favorite movie u will be missed Lou 🎉❤🌟
A job most certainly well done. Rest well Mr. Gossett 🙏🏿❤️
Louis Gossett Jr had so many movies like A officer and Gentlemen, Iron Eagle, The Principal, Skin Game, A rasin in the sun.
Tv shows Roots, Good Times and the Jeffersons.
The Jeffersons was my favorite when mother Jeffersons beat him with a umbrella, lol.
People should check out Gossett in the movie
Carolina Skeleton and the movie called Jasper, Texas.
Both are based on true stories about George Stinney and James Byrd.
Yes, excellent films. Also, The Book of Negroes where he played Daddy Moses.
Will never forget him for his role in Officer and a Gentleman!
Loved him in Iron Eagle more than other roles. RIP 2024 to Lou Gossett Jr. A great actor.
He was amazing in the powers of Matthew Starr. I remember the episode where he was unfairly being judged by a court. And then an evil twin of his was found. His laughter at the end of that episode was amazing. He was a great mentor on that show.
I love him in The Principal,Diggstown, and The Punisher and Daddy's Little Girls!
Rest in Peace! And thank you for all of your bodies of works, that we have enjoyed over the years! You were really phenomenal at your craft! RIP 😢❤❤❤🙏 🙏 🙏

RIP Louis Gossett Jr! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
RIP Lou (LeVar finding out his great great great grandfather being a member of the CSA was hilarious)
His performance as Fiddler. Fiddler's death really hit me. His performance made me believe that such a person did `exist. RIP Mr Gossett
RIP, I loved him in The Principal and Iron Eagle
I may not seem like someone who would be here paying respect, but without a lengthy explanation, I am. 🙏 😔
Besides being a remarkable actor, he CARED about our Black people. Mr.Gossett used every bit of his God given talent. He was a true testament to GREATNESS.
Some years ago, at Atlantic Station in Midtown Atlanta, I was working there. Somebody said to me, "How are you doing young man?" I turned around to look. It was Lou Gossett, Jr. I shook his hand thinking, "Man, what the fuck are you doing here?" We talked for a few minutes. I told Lou, "Back in 1976, I was in the first grade. When I get home today, I'm going to watch 'J.D.'s Revenge'". This particular movie, he starred in, came out in 1976. Lou busted out laughing! I put a smile on his face. I shook his hand one last time and he left. He was about 82 years old at the time that I met him.
I loved him in an Officer and the Gentleman
R I P Legend
This cat was pretty much the torch grabber of Sidney Poitier, and pretty much the second coming of poitier. He somehow still seemed to not get his rightful props and credit for him being the trailblazing actor that he was.
He didn't break, but he set a record for being the first black male actor to receive an Oscar, then after that others followed. Like weathers, we've lost another great one. But in gossets case,at least he lived a full life and
got to accomplish a little more than weathers did. They're both legends and they both played a part in pioneering black cinema. Their names are in the books now, and neither will ever be forgotten ✊🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️.
Rest easy king and respect to his family
Much love to Brother Gossett. 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 May Allah Be Pleased with Our Brother 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
The world is changing one person at a time as a whole generation of stars pass away from us
I’m sorry but I grew up on reading rainbow! I gotta give LeVar his flowers now 🌺 🌸 💐 He was an integral part of my childhood and as a straight man I regard him as family and always welcomed to the cookout ❤
Before Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman, there was him. He picked up where Sidney Pointier left off and there wasn't a BETTER MAN to carry on that torch. I fell in love with his acting when he played Sadat. I was a little girl but had sense enough to know that he robbed when he wasn't awarded the Emmy for that role. To my knowledge, he never compromised who he was as a black man to fit into Hollywood standards. He remained true to his people. REST WELL SIR ! JOB WELL DONE !
As the Officer, not the Gentleman he was brilliant.😊
For me, it's a close call between Fiddler in "Roots" and Jariba, the Drak in "Enemy Mine". I usually don't get emotional when a celebrity passes, but Mr Gossett's passing made my eyes wet!
Lou was a good actor.
Condolences to Mr. Gossett’s family.
He was the best😢
I grow up watching Iron Eagle....
RIP LGJ.
Such a phenomenal actor. He was an actor where you would peep at a random movie & say to yourself. “ I’m not going to watch this movie “ But when his name comes up in the credits. You be like “Yep, I’m watching”
I would say Roots. I actually hated that role but he was undeniably good. “ You gone get that bloody back fo sho”
R.I.P. Louis 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
My Brooklyn Love to another 😢❤️🙏🏾🕊️
I liked him on Good Times and the Jefferson's
Nooooo!!!💔💔💔💔💔
IRON EAGLE ✈️🦅
He was the one that encouraged me to fly airplanes ✈️
I wonder how many recruits became pilots in the Air Force because of Louis Gossett Jr🍷
I was a kid in the 1970s so my first memories of him--apart from Roots--was when his character tries to kiss Weezy in The Jeffersons. He was an all-round talent from comedy to drama.
His role in El Diablo, and HBO movie, will always be one of my favorites.
