I'm 66 and I use 2D sonar to help me locate areas that might hold fish. Once I choose an area the fun for me is trying to zero in on the fish. If I know exactly where the fish are, how big they are, what depth they are at, I would rather stay home. Now if I was fishing for a paycheck I would have the latest and greatest sonar technology available and I would spend hours on the water learning how to master it.

Wow, all the commenters clicked this video just to dog on sonar. You all clearly didnt come to watch the review lol. Edit: Nice, folks actually interested in the review showed up.
So how is seeing a fish on a screen different than seeing one in the Water with your eyes. You should be made to wear a blindfold when you go fishing so you can't see where the fish are in the water at all. Many species of fish are visible in the water with no electronics, people have been casting bait to them forever. That's more effective than trying to use a electronic screen to cast to. You being able to see fish with your eyes should be illegal and you should be forced to wear a blindfold while fishing
My daughter and her family live in Cambridge Oh. We come to visit every 3 months or so! I love to creek or river fish for Small mouth. Can you recommend a river or creek in that area that has smallies? Thanks.
I don't have the cash for live, idk if I ever will but I genuinely enjoy picking apart a body water by learning it and using gained knowledge instead of watching a screen all day. I hope the skills aren't lost over time that have been passed down forever-that being said, the technology is amazing
electronics needs to be banned from all fishing tournaments!!! Win the tournament using your skill and lucky!!! Now who has more money will buy updated electronics and this is not fair for other fisherman's. I do use basic fishfinder just to know water depth and temperature, but for tournaments i will bun everything.
You anti FF sonar crowd need to get a job so you can afford it. If you lack the intelligence to use it, and I think that applies to most, don't use it. Stop crying and being so jealous.
Live Forward Scanning is bringing out the haters due to the expense of these units. I'm older than probably the majority of viewers, and it's a fact that more and more people are getting out on the water and fishing. Population is an issue that's not even talked about. I've seen it. It can't be denied. This is directly effecting fishing, not Forward Scanners.
Just for the sake of conversation, I've noticed something. I'm in my mid 20s and when I was younger, not enough kids were getting into fishing. Now, there's too many people getting into fishing. This community/industry leaves me confused sometimes.
@@marcusyoung2870exactly I remember when I was little around 8 years old being into fishing and it being a dying sport now all the old guys are bitching because young guys are into the sport and whooping them😂
I can’t easily afford a boat and couple of these units. I only started fishing two years ago and took me 8 months to catch my first fish. I just don’t see the point in using these.
If you use electronics like this, you can't call yourself a fisherman. These electronics have gone too far. it's called fishing, not catching all the time and seeing everything thays in the water. The mystery is the fun part, not knowing what you will get when you throw, having intimate knowledge of your surroundings and species you are targeting. It's not fishing anymore. All you should have is a depth finder, anything else is bullshit.
No, it doesn’t make the fish bite, and fish may adapt to it, but are you interested fishing or just in fish in the boat? If you don’t know the difference, go ahead and buy this and the next 10 iterations as the technology gets a LOT better. Your wallet is thinner and you’re out in nature staring at screens. I can see people loving that, it’s just my reason for being out there. And think about who’s getting hooked by who.
Yeah I got into fishing to spend more time looking at nature, less time staring at screens. It's like staring at your phone while hiking.. your brain is still getting the dopamine addiction instead of getting healthier.
You mean bobber fishing with worms from shore? Or hunting with a recurve bow? Your definition of fair chase is in your head. Stop crying about what others do, it is none of your business. You should be more concerned about catch and release, creel limits etc. to protect the resource for future generations rather than how someone else enjoys the sport.
I do have a question about the noise such a system makes, if you want to call it that way. I know from people that an old fashion sonar can scare fish and prevent fish from biting. Turn it of and suddenly you start catching again. Can the new Live sonars have a similar effect?
I've heard others make this claim, and I know it's possible... but I have had many a time where many boats and trolling motors are all around and the fish could care less... many are caught by everyone.. so, it may happen, but I don't worry about it anymore... certainly in some scenarios probably, but I catch them all the time with all of it running out into the water... now a big bang on the deck of the boat... I 've seen that scatter fish many a time.. temporarily...
ML2 looks so much better than Garmin and Lowrance ATM it’s amazing, I always love their 360 (but I have a Garmin). If they could bring the pricing within Garmin’s I would buy this over That and Lowrance immediately
The issue for me, and why I won't ever get one, is that I know for a fact, it would be the only thing I ever used again. And that just seems sad. I'd love to play with one for a day, just to get answers to some behavior specific to this 80 mile canal that I fish.
State Fish and Wildlife agencies need to make this illegal. I would even recommend banning all fishing tournaments as well. Please protect our lakes and rivers from this nonsense.
I didn't know if you realize but fishing pre-and during spawning makes much more damage to your footsteps than FFS. There are way more many factors that you could consider before bringing up FFS.
Cant wait to see all the grown men throwing a fit when they see a bunch of fish on the screen but cant catch one 😂. Reminds me of the guy who comes out to the pier during walleye season and catches a walleye and just acts stupid in the way he reels it in and violently chucks it on the cement. Then whe he leavs he ask if any one wants a " in his words stupid old walleye" The respect and appreciation has left him and fishing seems like more of a hassle then passion. I see it going like that with bass fishing. It gets so easy it gets boring
As I'm in my 40's, the cheating technology that continues to advance will 100% cause a decline in future fish populations...a real shame...kids today, will be the one's that miss out on the sport of fishing in the future..."anglers" today with the lack of respect for the sport & the limited resource, the fish....Is quite disturbing
You still gotta figure them out. I use Livescope, but only after I locate fish using wisdom and side scan. I fish a 180k acre lake and even with livescope nothing’s guaranteed.
i run 34 on an original uhd93...looks much better than this. You will be happy. This video and millikens show them casting into open water. all that fuzz on the bottom won't allow you to pick a fish out of a brushpile. Watch garmin guru's set-up video to give you a start then adjust from there.
I'm curious did you actually pay retail for the new ML2 to replace the old version along with new electronics that support it? Or did Humminbird offer it to you for a review on YT? I have all Humminbird Solix and original ML and now they are obsolete. I had to send my solix units and megalive units back to humminbird multiple times because they put out a product that has issues. As much as I love the mapping I would NEVER purchase another humminbird product!
@@56igadgetit is obsolete in the fact that Humminbird is no longer supporting the Helix. No more updates from the factory so basically no more improvements. That being said the Helix is still a great unit that has great side and down imaging. Both of those features are fun for sure
@curvinh6289 Bass will literally eat anything. They live in scummy ponds to creeks and ditches to pristine rivers to quarries to shallow lakes and can be found everywhere in any of these areas. I'll catch them, but the idea that bass fishing takes skill is laughable.
@MikeYurbasovich catching bass at a tournament level or on high preassure public lakes takes immense skill, more than any other sport , unlimited variables
Use this crap, and you will never know how to really fish. Next, they will make a lure that will swim to the target fish on the screen. That way you don't have to waste your time learning to cast.
Such a lazy way to fish. When do we get something that puts the hook in their mouths as well. Instant gratification for those who can't be bothered with skill and water craft. May as well go to a fish farm where they jump on the hook.
A sad, pathetic way to fish. I purchased a Garmin Livescope in order to fully understand the technology. I didn't want to be biased by Blaukat, who has no experience with the technology (or so he claims). I have used it extensively on one of my Old Town Sportsman fishing kayaks. And although I've learned a lot observing how the fish react to various lures and techniques, I can't over-emphasize how much I hate fishing this way. I now no longer use it for fishing. I will use it in the forward mode to identify submerged trees and other hazards in shallow water coves. Other than that, a totally unsatisfying way to fish. I'd rather catch one bass on my own than 10 bass using FFS. As a sportsman, I would be embarrassed if I had to admit to people the only way I can catch a bass is via the use of FFS.

Through the comments, it appears that there are quite a few people who do not like this product at all.
One would argue that it doesn't take an Einstein to figure out why.
Lots of ignorant clueless people. People who are happy with a product do not cry. You are just hearing from the crybabies, thankfully they are not the majority.
That is a huge improvement on quality. What voltage are you running on ML2 and the head unit?
You spoke of saugeye fish, I remember years ago fish & game putting them in likes in my area and never produced well! I guess fish & game didn't know what they were doing
Very impressive!
I turned off MLF this am after 5 minutes. I don't want to watch guys play video games. I want to learn real fishing strategies from experts. This is cool tech but bad fishing.
Merry Christmas!!!!!
Merry Christmas!!
Is the ML2 transducer the same kHz as the previous ML1?
in the old days when people stated they had been skunked, we always said "Well - that's why its called fishing, and not shopping!"... No longer fun to say - now fishing is really just turning into a form of "shopping" ... the times just keep getting stranger.
Wow, all the commenters clicked this video just to dog on sonar. You all clearly didnt come to watch the review lol.
Edit: Nice, folks actually interested in the review showed up.
I swear there are bots out here dropping comments on every video
It should be illegal I feel sorry for these guys that depend on technology to catch fish.
I feel sorry for people like you who do not have technology because they are too lazy to get a job or lack the intelligence to learn how to use it.
how are you recording the solix unit screen?
@noahh9423 I have it linked to an Apex at the dash. Apex has an hdmi port than I am using an external recording device to record with
Gotcha! Makes more sense😂 thanks for the reply!
Definitely needs to be regulated somehow…..like catch and release only with ffs
what is the best fish finder I am new to this I have been studying on this for month now Cant choose one How good is Mega Live 2
The best fish finder is to go out and find them on your own without electronics.
If you're starting fresh start with the Humminbird Explorer with Side Imaging and down Imaging.
I like how bright the lures and fish show up, but the structure looks pretty bad compared to livescope.
Looks ok, nothing crazy if you have garmin.
If you want to pay thousands of dollars to fish yea sure. Hater no just broke saved up 3k just to get out on the water I ain’t staring at no screen
@A_plusFishing
So what? No one cares what you do or don't do. You pathetic whiners always have to cry about something. Ridiculous.
Wow, what a bunch of whiners! Thanks for the review Travis, waiting to see what is next for Garmin and Lowrance.
What happened to fair chase?
How heavy was your jig head and was it lead or Tungsten?
I like that color scheme
I just dont want to stare at a screen while im out in nature, bit more power to ya's
Then they should ban All Electronics including GPS
I didn't know if you realize but fishing pre-and during spawning makes much more damage to your footsteps than FFS.
There are way more many factors that you could consider before bringing up FFS.
How about we ban whining little cry babies from fishing? No one cares about your opinion
At about the 6:40 mark, after about seven revolutions for the crank the bait moves 10 feet? Makes no sense to me, what am I missing?
Got one on my bay boat and my crappie rig, big boat is Garmin and furuno, the birds are good
To me,when i first got ML1 ,was able to see my bait at 60',now after all updates it's worst especially when trolling motor is activated
Gameboys be gamin on the water.
My old npenoptic aint seeing no bait past 20 ft.
Will you be getting any more gloves anytime soon? I was hoping to catch some on sale but you’re sold out of the large/extra large.
It’s being out the haters because there is no skill required to catch fish
Amazing! 👍
Well done sir!
Never thought id see fishing get uninteresting used to be so much unknown and so rewarding when you figured them out that day
You still gotta figure them out. I use Livescope, but only after I locate fish using wisdom and side scan.
I fish a 180k acre lake and even with livescope nothing’s guaranteed.
Man. Sold my 15" solix to finance a Livescope unit and an UHD 9. Wish I hadn’t now.
i run 34 on an original uhd93...looks much better than this.
Your stuff is not obsolete
@@56igadgetit is obsolete in the fact that Humminbird is no longer supporting the Helix. No more updates from the factory so basically no more improvements. You now have to buy new units that are capable of running Mega 2. I purchased 2 new Helix units 4 months ago that will only recognize Mega 1. That being said the Helix is still a great unit that has great side and down imaging. Both of those features are fun for sure
Definitely takes the sport out of sports fishing.
Bass fishing takes zero skill to begin with.
@MikeYurbasovich lol , yea right
@curvinh6289 Bass will literally eat anything.
@@MikeYurbasovichyou clearly know nothing about fishing then.
Do you have the hummingbird 360
Awesome review , to all the crybabies they sell pacifiers at Walmart !
What unit are you using as the monitor?
Great live from humming bird 👏👏
Use this crap, and you will never know how to really fish. Next, they will make a lure that will swim to the target fish on the screen. That way you don't have to waste your time learning to cast.
Can this mega live 2 work with solix gen 2?
Such a lazy way to fish. When do we get something that puts the hook in their mouths as well. Instant gratification for those who can't be bothered with skill and water craft. May as well go to a fish farm where they jump on the hook.
Are you using the new explorer unit?
dead flat calm day.
Active target 2….cleanest and clearest on the market!
Video game fishing is for children. Real men don't use that nonsense
Sounds like something a child or mentally challenged adult would say.
that color is garmins night mode blue
How is there a bridge and house under a 50’ lake
If i had 4k id buy one
