      I'm 66 and I use 2D sonar to help me locate areas that might hold fish. Once I choose an area the fun for me is trying to zero in on the fish. If I know exactly where the fish are, how big they are, what depth they are at, I would rather stay home. Now if I was fishing for a paycheck I would have the latest and greatest sonar technology available and I would spend hours on the water learning how to master it.

    It is awesome. We all draw lines in the sand...this is way past mine. They can't hide. Professional ( like...for food) fishermen are gonna catch everything that swims. He has it set on 100 feet...meaning 200 feet left to right. A point drop off would be easy to cover without even having to travel over it. A river channel drop. The state of Mississippi reportedly stated the average size of crappie in the western side lakes ( Arkabutla, Grenada, etc)... known for numbers and size...has dropped with thoughts that using ffs is likely the cause. Tournaments are no longer won using multiple rods / trolling as in past but rather picking and choosing using ffs.

    What I find funny in all this hate talk about new technology, and improvements.
    Less than 75 yrs ago it was bank fishing with a cane pole, and an old coffee can full of night crawlers.
    Then comes the boat, and a steel rod with a reel you could actuality cast. Everyone was still okay with the improvements made, because everyone could afford it and it was an even playing field because everyone had pretty much the same thing. Now jump a head a few years, and attitudes start to change. The fiberglass bass boat, bigger engines, fiberglass rods, reels with ball bearings, and drags, flashers, and graphs. Not everyone could afford the latest in technology, and the other improvements that bettered the fishing industry. Even with all that, with it making fishing and catching fish easier than it ever has, no one really bitched about it too much. Now with the price of everything, not too many people can keep up with the Jones's. Those are the ones that keep saying how ffs has done ruined lakes, (even though it's only been out for eight years), it's taking the fun out of fishing, and so on. No one seems to bitch about bass boats, $800 rod and setups, down imagining, side imagining, 360 °, how come?
    If people are that offended by technically, and improvements, take lessons from bow hunters. They say technically takes the fun out of hunting with the compound bow. What did they do, damn sure not bitch about it, they took a few steps back and brought the fun back into bow hunting. They went back to recurve, and long bows. So fishermen, if technically take the fun out of fishing, take a few steps back. Go cut you a cane pole, get some night crawlers, a five gallon bucket, find a creek bank, and put the fun back in fishing.

      So how is seeing a fish on a screen different than seeing one in the Water with your eyes. You should be made to wear a blindfold when you go fishing so you can't see where the fish are in the water at all. Many species of fish are visible in the water with no electronics, people have been casting bait to them forever. That's more effective than trying to use a electronic screen to cast to. Now who has more money will buy updated electronics and this is not fair for other fisherman's. I do use basic fishfinder just to know water depth and temperature, but for tournaments i will bun everything.

    Live Forward Scanning is bringing out the haters due to the expense of these units. I'm older than probably the majority of viewers, and it's a fact that more and more people are getting out on the water and fishing. Population is an issue that's not even talked about. I've seen it. It can't be denied. This is directly effecting fishing, not Forward Scanners.

    If you use electronics like this, you can't call yourself a fisherman. These electronics have gone too far. it's called fishing, not catching all the time and seeing everything thays in the water. The mystery is the fun part, not knowing what you will get when you throw, having intimate knowledge of your surroundings and species you are targeting. It's not fishing anymore. All you should have is a depth finder, anything else is bullshit.

  • @Michdave700
    @Michdave700 Місяць тому +4

    No, it doesn’t make the fish bite, and fish may adapt to it, but are you interested fishing or just in fish in the boat? If you don’t know the difference, go ahead and buy this and the next 10 iterations as the technology gets a LOT better. Your wallet is thinner and you’re out in nature staring at screens. I can see people loving that, it’s just my reason for being out there. And think about who’s getting hooked by who.

    I do have a question about the noise such a system makes, if you want to call it that way. I know from people that an old fashion sonar can scare fish and prevent fish from biting. Turn it of and suddenly you start catching again. Can the new Live sonars have a similar effect?

      I've heard others make this claim, and I know it's possible... but I have had many a time where many boats and trolling motors are all around and the fish could care less... many are caught by everyone.. so, it may happen, but I don't worry about it anymore... certainly in some scenarios probably, but I catch them all the time with all of it running out into the water... now a big bang on the deck of the boat... I 've seen that scatter fish many a time.. temporarily...

    A sad, pathetic way to fish. I purchased a Garmin Livescope in order to fully understand the technology. I didn't want to be biased by Blaukat, who has no experience with the technology (or so he claims). I have used it extensively on one of my Old Town Sportsman fishing kayaks. And although I've learned a lot observing how the fish react to various lures and techniques, I can't over-emphasize how much I hate fishing this way. I now no longer use it for fishing. I will use it in the forward mode to identify submerged trees and other hazards in shallow water coves. Other than that, a totally unsatisfying way to fish. I'd rather catch one bass on my own than 10 bass using FFS. As a sportsman, I would be embarrassed if I had to admit to people the only way I can catch a bass is via the use of FFS.
