Good review, and agree that the watch has more than most "everyday runners" would need. I'm one of those runners, but have upgraded to the Fenix 7 (standard edition) from a 645 for a few reasons: increased battery life, added features such as pace pro & body battery (which I know are available on other models), and also the touchscreen. We could all drive around in Nissan Micras, but doesn't mean we have to.
Great real world review. I bought the fenix 6 about 6 months ago & love it. I’m an entry level runner, but love the data. I grew up with the perspective of better to get something to grow into than get something that’s good enough. I’d say when my Apple Watch was failing me on trail runs is when I decided to step up. I will never look back. I love my Fenix!
I agree that this watch has a lot more than most runners need, and is therefore hard to justify the value/price. The only reason I'm considering the Fenix 7 at $699 USD, is for the ability to play music (via Spotify) directly from the watch without having to take my phone with me. I also like the 1.3 inch display size. Other than that, I would be more than ok with a $300 coros. Let me know if you know of any better options with this same music functionality at a better price...
Forerunner 55 does everything for me. As a bang average runner I look to do 2/3 training runs, a weekly parkrun and monthly 10k race. 55 gives me all the stats and figures I need and at a price I could justify.
Got a Coros Apex Pro as I was getting fed up with charging my Garmin. Coros were Far cheaper and the battery life is insane on it. Dont regret converting.
@@FordyRuns Its not perfect, however the positives far outway the little niggles that could be improved. Well said. Brought a garmin 55 in the summer and it does everything I need. From someone who runs around 25-30 miles a week and cycles to work everyday it’s perfect and I got it for £140!
I bought myself a coros pace 2 for Christmas. It has the most features for the money I wanted to spend. I do a ton of trail running and the fact that is has a barometric altimeter built in was very attractive. Coros also are constantly improving their software which the pace 2 get all of the updates as well. It seems as though there are coros developers in the coros users Facebook group so you'll actually see commonly requested software features that are discussed, come to life in new updates which is just cool. I like to save my watch money for actual watches. 😁
Hows the navigation on this base model? Is it really need clear sky to receive the GPS? Have u notice any different with the sapphire model which has Multiband GPS?
My first running watch was a Polar in the early 90s. This was when Garmin were probably making sat navs. When I came back to running in old age about 4 years ago I picked up a Garmin but could not get on with it so sold it and use Polar again. I wouldn’t say Polar are perfect but they seem easier to use than Garmin.
I have a fenix 7 solar sapphire and I absolutely love it not big on the display but I can deal with it for the battery I don’t run but I walk and do a lot of mountain biking and hiking

Me and my girlfriend both have a forerunner 55 we got it for 125 quid bargain, so far very good watch good amount of data for the average everyday runner, personally I normally go for the most expensive model but for an entry level watch it’s very good in my opinion
Polar Grit X Pro, after returning a Fenix 5 sapphire, because I couldn’t stand the blue hue to the Garmin displays. I would love to go back to Garmin, but still not convinced the displays are fixed.
Great review for everyday runners! I went from a Forerunner 245 to Fenix 6 Solar last year and one thing I’d add is the GPS tracking is definitely less accurate on the Fenix so word of warning to those considering upgrading. Lots of forum and Reddit threads indicating same thing. I’ll be swapping back to Forerunner line once the 955 hopefully arrives…
Not saying you are wrong about GPS but genuinely wondering how it can be worse when the internal sensors are prob the same? Sure you got them set the same? GPS + Glonass etc. Ps I have a forerunner 645 and love it 👍
@@jamesdrury6627 good point - from what I’ve read on all the forums the best guesses seem to be around the more metallic materials of the Fenix and possibly the design of the watch itself versus the much more plastic nature of the forerunner. As like it was planned it so happens that the last run of the program is on my birthday the 14th next month. Happy b'day to me with being able to run 5k again as a present 😀 Because of the broken watch I am in the market (as a real present to self, think I earned it) Looked at instinct solar for E280, FR 245m for E250 & 745 for E350 and this week a local shop has a pre stock count sale they call 'no VAT' and the fenix 6 pro is now E445, which I find a lot for a watch. I do like 100m water resistance, because I do swim, 50m wr is for doing dishes and showering I reckon, that puts me off the FR's a bit. Which watch would you recommend?
Hello from Greece! I think the main reason for someone to buy any Fenix is its looks and the prestige it brings with it. You can off course be a daily runner with a much cheaper watch. Personally I run with the 235 for three and a half years now and despite never having thought that I need something more from it (except swimming), I really love the Fenix series and would buy one if I could just to wake up wearing it! Thanks for the video!
I own a Fenix 5 plus, I have had it for 3.5 years .. the great battery is only now starting to fade (I have to charge it about every 4 /5 days now ), it's still receiving updates (maps mainly) from Garmin. I reckon I will get another year out of it before I pick up its replacement. However, if I had the choice again I would have picked up the forerunner, which has all the stuff I want at better price point.
I broke down and bought it. I have a Fenix 5 which I do like but I just wanted an upgrade and something with a little better connectivity when I do virtual runs/rides (the 5 hasn’t been 100% great for that)
I would substitute the 245 with the 745 or the base 6s because they opens up the world of multisport and cycling power meters. But I wholeheartedly agree, Fenix 7 is overkill.
The only good thing about the new lineup is that the basic Fenix 7 has maps and capacity for music. I got the Fenix 6S; I wanted maps but I didn’t want music (having had it on another watch, I never used it), but didn’t have much of a choice (like Garmin Pay, what a waste of space!) The Fenix 7 doesn’t really have much that I want. The running dynamics and maps and slightly better battery life work for me. You mentioned the Forerunner 745 and I also think of the 945 as alternatives, but in fact, at the time of buying, the Fenix 6s was cheaper by comparison (the 945 was in fact more expensive). If I had to replace the 6s, I’d opt for whatever version of the 745 comes out, so long as it doesn’t prove more expensive than a Fenix on sale.

@@RainMaking-D reliabily in hardware and software, dual band gps, various satelite navigation systems, autonomy, pairing with inreach of Garmin. I have a Garmin Fenix 6 x Saphire, a Suunto 9 Baro...and boy what a difference
What a great video. 🤩 Thanks bro. 👍🏻
Thanks mate
I want the Tesla! Totally agree with you btw :)
I’d love the Tesla 🤣🤣🤣
👍.. still happy with my FR 945
Great Watch
The everyday runner can't afford something like this, mega expensive. I still have the Fenix 3, which I got secondhand.
Exactly my point
I think that was his point. The 245 is enough, even the 55. If you’re into multi sport you might even be able to push it to a 745.
You’re right, not only is it expensive for the average runner, it’s also an awful lot of watch.
I think garmin have list the plot a bit..with the way these watches are loaded with features
The way I run, a sun dial is more than enough. :)) 👍
Garmin lower your prices.
Sold my fenix 5 plus to buy the new 7 solar sapphire
Hope you like it
Oh, is Fenix not pronounced Phoenix?
Once you see the Epix screen the Fenix is dead.
Interesting feedback thank you
You pronounced the name of the watch wrongly within the first few seconds 🤦🏻♂️
Maybe your saying it wrong 🤣
@@FordyRuns Jesus, you can’t even spell “you’re correctly”. Maybe leave the UA-cam reviews to the literate…
@@306maxievo2 you get far in life being rude to everyone? Good luck with that
He did. But so what? We all know what he means. I'd say some others spotted it also. But only you were pathetic enough to point it out.

Thanks
You think £600 is a lot for a watch? 😂
