    Mick Taylor playing a Telecaster. That's new to me. Nice to see full stage shots instead of the usual Mick closeups. Mick is such a force, and they usually have the cameras too close to see how he grooves. Sadly, his stage presence became too choreographed, but here he is in his James Brown phase.

      juilliardreject It was two shows. Blodwyn Pig and Procol Harum were the support acts! I remember the confetti at the end too. It certainly was a hell of a night. I was at the Hyde Park gig earlier in the summer and I thought they were awful! This gig was much more like it. I recommend you check out the Leeds University '71 gig which is both amazing sound quality and a stunning show.

      Andy Thomas ..Thanks for the confirmation. I had just turned 17 and was a schoolboy at Mill Hill. Snuck out of my bedsit to see them. I saw the Plastic Ono band a week earlier at the same place. John did a nice version of Cold Turkey and Yoko screamed into the mike for 40 minutes .... not her finest moment. I missed the Stones Hyde Park gig, but did see the "Blind Faith" Hyde Park gig ..... I was near the stage on Claptons side. I thought they were just fine. I'll check out the Leeds University session ... thanks again Andy ........

      juilliardreject Weird. I had a friend who was at Mill Hill around that time. His name was Rocky Fowler. He lived in Uxbridge. Ring any bells? I was at the Blind Faith bash too. It was a great afternoon! Everytime I hear the album it takes me back to the Summer of '69! I saw some great bands at The Lyceum 'Midnight Court' shows. Family/King Crimson/Yes and probably 'most' memorable, the original Spirit, who were just amazing!

    • @juilliardreject8767
      @juilliardreject8767 9 років тому

      Andy Thomas I was at Mill Hill from late 67 to 70 .... I was one of 4 "Yanks" at the school. If your friend was a boarder there than I probably ran into him. One of my mates who I used to play guitar with was Chaz Jankel ... who had a pretty successful career with Ian Dury and the Blockheads and by himself in the early 80's. We were just kids back then ... Saw lots of shows at the Lyceum ... Yes ... The Nice ... The Move etc. I used to hit the Marquee club quite a bit ... I was a big fan of Jethro Tull back then and they were regulars there. I missed the Spirit concert ...... they were a tight band. I remember I had a chance to see Hendrix back then but missed out for some reason. Also missed the Hyde Park Pink Floyd concert in 68 ... I regret that one,

      I seem to remember that it was flower petals they dropped from the ceiling onto the audience. The petals were contained in a couple of wooden and cloth stretcher-like devices and a member of the "effects" crew pulled a rope to release one side of it dumping the petals. Unfortunately one of the stretchers came away from its fixing and dropped into the audience injuring a couple of people. I believe this occurred at the end of the second of two Stones concerts that day so perhaps they used confetti at the end of the first performance. The Altamont concert was on December 6 1969 and I think the next Stones show was at the Saville followed by the two at the Lyceum.

    Why did the Rollin' Stones sound so good during this period of time? Obviously, Taylor's virtuoso playing along with new technology---ampeg 300 watt SVT tube amps and the new PA systems with the speakers mountd up high so the sound would cascade down on the audience. It also allowed them to hear themselves instead of girls screaming.

      Keith’s a master of tunings and odd things to get unique sounds. It took me years to figure out that he dropped his guitar 🎸 down to G.
      Now I can play Jumping Jack Flash correctly finally after all these years. And it sounds exactly like the recording!
      It’s because I was playing it in standard tuning which is wrong!

      I think somebody was trying to get on stage? Not sure, but a week after Altamont, and you can imagine the mindset.

    Satisfaction did not survive this period, Jumpin Jack Flash obviously did and even got better as Mick figured some blistering solos a bit later. The original Satisfaction was a brilliant development of a novelty but not enough to make it in a heavy and hard blues rock combo that the Stones were at the time. I'm sure they could have eventually come up with a new arrangement but since they didn't "have to" I guess they just dropped it after it didn't work.

      At the 3:31 mark. Since this was weeks after Altamont they were not playing around with any crowd issues, IMO.

    Do the Stones ever engage in works of charity for the poor or disabled and other types of people in need? They likely make a couple truckloads of money for each performance. Who do they help and where? Just wondering.

      You never know, but they were on the verge of being broke right here with Allen Klein taking all their money. That's why they fired him, hired his nephew, and started their own record label.
