I remember that Concert! I'd never heard of Chris up until then. Him backing Cale made that one the best concerts I have ever attended. As I recall, the drummer was also on fire...
This was such a phenomenal gig, too - what a great video capture! Chris is the player's player for sure and one of the best. Thanks for this rare gem, pokopen.
Been a huge Chris Spedding fan since I was introduced to his music by members of the first band I was in outta school. That was '81. Went through 2 copies of that first album, and have everything he's done up to the 90's. Would play Guitar Jamboree for all my friends to show how great he is. Got to meet him in '81 at a punk club in Milwaukee called The Starship. This performance rocks!
Wowza, all that on a les Paul jr., what terrific song craft! Heard about this cat from Danny Gattons biography Unfinished Business. They played rockabilly together in Robert Gordon’s band in the early 80’s.
Love him - he doesn't only play the notes, he manage to replicate the specific touch of all the greats, that's why he "sound" like them, even with a single P90 guitar instead of the many different guitars used on the original recordings.
Thanks for posting this video. I just dug out "Hurt" and the "Green Oldsmobile" from my LP collection to convert to MP3. Both are quite good records. Amazing how some musicians become popular idols on charisma (or brown nosing) while other accomplished guitarists such as Chris never really hit it big.
I shook his hand once after a gig with Robert Gordon..nice man..the reason I even wanted to shake his hand was the fact that he produced Sex Pistols demo tapes which gave them a deal
Now it’s easy to criticise Chris’ voice...but this is how to show off your chops and not bore your audience 😂. Chris was a brilliant session guitarist as well as mentoring the Sex Pistols
I find it very interesting, that he played on two records of the jazzrock band NUCLEUS in early 70s, which I own, and he played cool. But, this music is totally different to his later Rock´nRoll - Rhythm ´n Blues, sometimes with a country touched rockabilly style... I also own some these records, cause like a lot this stuff, too... anyway thanx for posting - but he was a member of NUCLEUS... one cannot imagine by hearing "Get Out My Pagoda" or "Lobotomy", "Breakout", etc
1st of all - great soundin' rig! LP Jr. through what looks like a Mesa Boogie...2ndly - to all the naysayers below - when was the last time you pulled off this song live w/ just a trio?
@@bobgure Chris doesn't use effects. When I saw him in 2023 on his last tour, he used his James Trussart guitar straight into a hired '64 Fender Deluxe Reverb on 7, working the volume knob on the guitar. He's a friend of mine and still plays bloody good at 79.
Great player and highly underrated - although this is not one if his best performances...and he should definitely stick to the gutear and leave the singing for....well, practically everybody else...
Nice impersonations. It's a shame he could impersonate a brilliant guitarist who went on to have a glittering career. Instead, guitarist who just got by with a band of losers , but was happy enough to earn enough money to stick loads of coke up his nose, was a softer option.
Best guitar tone I have heard in ages , loud and no gizmos.
And only one pickup...blows my mind. "Tone is in your hands" - Jimmy Page
Looks like a p-90 pickup on that guitar
All three great musicians and really good people. RIP Bobby Chouinard 🙏
I saw Chris in Robert Gordon's band for the Rockabilly Boogie show. THAT was a guitar jamboree. A true guitar hero and he still is.🙏😷🎵🎶☕❗👀
What memories this has brought flooding back of nights at the Marquee watching Sharks. Thanks for posting
Spedding! with Rob Stoner and Bobby Chouinard! Rockin'!
Yes❤
Legendary drummer Bobby Chouinard in the house 🏠
Holy crap it sure is..
I remember that Concert! I'd never heard of Chris up until then. Him backing Cale made that one the best concerts I have ever attended. As I recall, the drummer was also on fire...
久しぶりに見たわ、聞いたわ
相変わらず最高🎉🎉
thanks🎉
Chris is a BAD MAN! I've always loved his playing. Saw live with Bryan Ferry a couple times.
This was such a phenomenal gig, too - what a great video capture! Chris is the player's player for sure and one of the best. Thanks for this rare gem, pokopen.

❤and we LOVE Mister Stoner

One of the great guitar heroes
This Chris should be my music teacher! Genius way to learn rock n roll history.
A great performance at the Bottom Line!
Always Chris Spedding, sound and elegance.
*L*O*V*E* *I*T*!
Since the end of the 70ths, he´s the BOSS for me.
Thank You from Brasil
This ain’t your average covers song! ❤
Chris Spedding delivered live!
I shook his hand once after a gig with Robert Gordon..nice man..the reason I even wanted to shake his hand was the fact that he produced Sex Pistols demo tapes which gave them a deal
I enjoyed playing this song on college radio, back when woolly mammoths roamed the continent.
A seriously underrated guitarist. His work on Jeff Wayne;'s War of the Worlds was legendary.
We want more...!
I bought the album "hurt": in the 70s in a little record store in LA.
That's the late Bobby Chouinard on drums in this. He played in Billy Squier's band, and Robert Gordon's, too.
great stuff! kick ass guitar riffs!
Chris is playing lead guitar on the live show of War of the worlds. Really good.
The boss and a true gentleman.
If you want to hear Chris at his best (imo), listen to the Jack Bruce album "Songs for a taylor". Superior riffs and general playing.
You have to listen to Hurt by Love. Great album.
Great as always !
Saw him since early 90s, each time he played near and can say Chris Spedding is a very underrated guitar man.
TOP CLASS
Love it!.
I'm speechless.
great bass!!
rockn roll at its best------saw him first sitting on an marshall 50 watt..playing a flying v........motor biking,,, give,´em hell m8^^
I saw this these guys in North Hollywood. I think we decided the drummer was the guy from Billy Squire's band.
If you listen to this PV in the center, echo of snare sound make a good surround effect.
Saw CS at the Edge in about 1983 ... woa ...
On the album version he does Robert Fripp too...
I was disappointed not to hear that as well, but nonetheless the dude can PLAY.
Now it’s easy to criticise Chris’ voice...but this is how to show off your chops and not bore your audience 😂. Chris was a brilliant session guitarist as well as mentoring the Sex Pistols
イケオジ!
Cool!
And what a sound he gets outta that jr. I think he used one when he toured with Roxy Music.

Wow!!!!
❤❤🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸
rock n´roll forever!!!!!
The guitarists' guitarist.
Rob Stoner on bass
Teacher is all of Guitar Kids.
MERCI

The amp he’s using here is a solid state Yamaha G100 III combo, guitar is a ‘57 Les Paul Jnr that he used from around ‘86 up til the early 2000s.
@@WillyKidd Great sound from a solid state. I’m not sure of Spedding’s relationship with pedals. Info? Thanks.

Vaasheee!
Yeah... but he had to ask his bass player -"Who's next".
Putting up a little show... I think.
Is that bloke with the specs my old maths teacher?
1.05x
would be cool if he did tony iommi or kirk hammet…..I hate it when people ignore metal when they talk about good guitarists
Chuck Berry at 1:59
Great player and highly underrated - although this is not one if his best performances...and he should definitely stick to the gutear and leave the singing for....well, practically everybody else...
Cozy Powell on drums?
He looks a bit like "Lonesome" Dave Peverett
Couldn't do Hank Marvin who was his inspiration.
prefer the cd - very bad - they are all drunk :p
Did he really forgot Chuck Berry??? Nah - That's impossible! You can't forget Chuck Berry.
Did ya bother to see the video??
And all on the most basic, one pickup guitar with zero fx.
Nice impersonations. It's a shame he could impersonate a brilliant guitarist who went on to have a glittering career. Instead, guitarist who just got by with a band of losers , but was happy enough to earn enough money to stick loads of coke up his nose, was a softer option.
He’s normally much better than this.
WOW!!!
