"Succeeding you... Father."
Smatty I was 100% sure this will be here
Wasn't technically a betrayal cause he wasn't himself at that point
Well he didn't have a soul at all by that point. Frostmourne ate it and doesn't release it until the few moments before you kill him. xD
I have never played warcraft 3 is there no way to play it now thanks to reforged?
I was saying to myself, wait where's Arthas....wait where's Arthas? Wait are you shitting me
I can't wait to watch big tiddie anime while also supporting my favorite wow youtuber
Really surprised that Kael isn't on here. Hell, his betrayal of illidan wasn't even his only betrayal.
It was merely a set back
High/Blood elfs really love betraying. Dar'Khan Drathir, Kael'thas, Sylvanas.
"Never trust an elf"
He didn't betray anyone
Everything he did was for his people
He kinda went crazy with the fel thing but even medivh did so you can't really complain about that
@@Sunthaz Syvanas is not a blood elf when she betrays anyone. She is undead.
What no kel thuzad? He betrayed every living beeing just to get a nice crib for himself and his cat and to be bff with the best lore character in warcraft ever
To be fair, the Kirin Tor kind of betrayed him first. He was studying necromancy in order for the Alliance to be better prepared for another war. And the Kirin Tor called him insane and, with King Terenas' permission, pretty much exiled him from the continent. And in "Road to Damnation", it's shown that Kel'Thuzad didn't want at first to join the Lich King, but he was pretty much said to "join me or I will kill you and raise you as an undead so that you will serve one way or another".
And yet, years later, the Alliance would recruit warlocks, shadow priests, death knights and demon hunters to aid them. Kel'Thuzad was pretty much decades ahead of his time.
* sargeras "it's all gone to sh*t! Here's the plan..."
This Made my day!
that and "Garry, Steve! Let's go drink some Demon Blood"
@@thersandersm1363 Yeah the little jokes Flyingbuttress adds to videos make them so much better
Can you do a TOP 10 longest quest chains?
Those which were necessary for legendary items, attunements and stuff like that.
That sounds like a good one
That would be amazing!
@@hirumaredx yes please!
North shire abbey quests on classic day one should be top of the list
Dungeon tier set 0.5 upgrading the classic dungeon ones... I spit blood with that chain quest, even two expansions later.
I guess it's kind of an obvious one but I would have thought to see Arthas on here. Going from being the crown prince to then Killing your dad and destroying Lordoran and Strathome as well as turning tons of people undead seems like a pretty big heel turn. I guess you could say we "saw" his betrayal coming and even experienced it, but it feels like that doesn't change the fact he went coco in a pretty short period of time.
I'm kinda surprised that Jaina isn't on the list for betraying her father, for the right reasons but still it was a major betrayal
Jaina definitely betrayed a lot of people
Her father betrayed peace between horde and her people she did the right thing that time
I don't think it was for the right reasons. Jaina fucked up. Also considering her father is who I played as in the missions with teal humans in WC2 I am inclined to agree with him. Orcs are bad and probably should have stayed enslaved. xD
On the other hand some of my favorite characters are the orc warchiefs in wc2, so I'm kinda glad that it happened. xD
She left Arthas at Stratholme, which led to him losing his moral compass and following a doomed path of vengeance.
@@YuyuHakurei for real though. They literally fell right back into drinking mannoroth's blood as soon as they saw him again. sure, they killed mannoroth eventually, but especially at the time, the orcish fel corruption was definitely a real issue. Plus, all of the orcs were part of an alien invading army, its not like they were innocent civilians or anything.
In Maiev’s defense, guarding a person in a dank dark prison for 10,000 years would cause anyone to go crazy. Doing that and then being told they changed their mind and he was free to go? I think most would go on a murdering spree tbh 😂
Besides, she's just fanatical, not a betrayer at heart. She didn't betray Tyrande in Warcraft 3, Tyrande betrayed her, by killing her guards and freeing Illidan by force. She did trick Malfurion for the greater good in her mind and with the knowledge she had, however she never intended to kill him originally. A character being ruined lorewise years and decades later isn't something new (remember Illidan?), and Maiev is very loyal. The death of her own, especially Shandris, affected her and explained why she was being so fanatical into stopping Illidan in the first place.
She's an antihero at worst, an actual hero at best, and she doesn't deserve a spot on that list, especially considering the number of real betrayers appearing in WoW's lore.
"Did you think we had forgotten? Did you think we had forgiveeenn?" Is probably my favorite line and voice acting in all media.
Watching Wrathgate for the first time gave me chills. It was so well done
The first spot of betrayal goes to Blizz's writing, especially to the ones that butchered Kael's character in TBC.
This was a really good video. lots of new stories that you haven't covered in other videos
Top betrayal: Reforged.
Tyrandde and malfurion better be on this list as they betrayed illidan who was just doing whatever it took to save his people while they just stayed self righteous.
"In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have trusted a dreadlord and a guy with a sack over his face"
Yeah maybe, maybe.
It would be surprising if we see Sicco in the Shadowlands. That'll mean he's officially dead
Hiru being sponsored by Crunchyroll is the true number 1 betrayal in my opinion.
I wish they'd do a "what if?" series kinda like Marvel did. Make it like tiny novels or comics. I so want to see the route if Sylvanas never was turned. I liked seeing how it'd be if Sylvanas did join the Alliance and that was very cool to see. That needs to be built open for that juicy lore.
Where did you get the idea that Maiev was everyone’s favorite and she wasn’t turned evil because they made Cordana have a heel turn.
I never said/implied she was everyones favorite, but they did probably change her role due to Cordana.
hirumaredx sry about being a dick but thanks for agreeing with the Cordana part.
They silently retconned Wolfheart because everyone hated it. They hinted at it when Jarrod said "Forget about that" and outright say it in one of her Heroes of the Storm quotes.
So our favorite raspy voiced stalker is morally pure
@@VaporeonEnjoyer1 I don't think it was retconned. It happened but it isn't talked about. But just because we don't know how it was handled doesn't mean there's nothing there and it's retconned
@@VaporeonEnjoyer1 It wasn't retconned. It's just not talked about, just like with Jaina going crazy for some time lmao. Hot *non-undead* ladies get away with stuff 👀.
Cordana Felsong was the only betrayal I actually felt as I started playing in wod and never pay attention to the story
Hiru's voice and buttresses hilarious captions and animations, this is a great team up.
I've got an impression that Maiev was supposed to be in the place of Cordana Felsong since her betrayal came out of nowhere, while Maiev had it coming.
This was such a good video! Love the format and such a nice level of detail. Not too much not too little! Love it!
Yogg: oh yeah, its all coming together
So glad Flying Buttress is getting some recognition, his lore videos are really funny and entertaining to watch.
Woah Hiru getting sponsored by Crunchyroll
Me: reads..
Top 10 betrayals. Me: oh.
Top 10 anime betrayals in wow. Me: heheheheh
Divorce HEHEHEHEH
I also made a commente like this
Gul'dan should 100% take the top spot. He shaped the whole Azeroth forever with his action. Also his betrayal is poetic - first he was betrayed by the horde, and then he betrayed the horde almost to its demise.
Btw, what events are depicted in the film? Gul'dan seems to be ruling the horde at that point...
The Film depicts warcraft 1 but changes A LOT and is basically a different timeline altogether.
I loved this video! And I learned a lot of stuff about these characters, stuff that I didn’t know before!
I love how we basically can get Thermaplug as a pet now through Torghast
I always like to think that Maev is that crazy yandere.
I feel like Yazma and Zul's betrayal towards the King would've been more dramatic if it was a cinematic rather than an ingame cut scene
Hiru and Flying Buttress is my favorite WoW content creator collab
Maiev is vengeance incarnate, with some passion for defending Azeroth mixed in
basically a demon hunter
Yeah basically a demon hunter in owl armor
I love the fan headcanon that Dar'khan was the first High Elf worker the player Possessed with a Banshee during the siege of Silvermoon.
Putress' betrayal is actually bigger than the 2nd war guldan betrayal. It rekindled the hate varian had for the horde, sparked garosh to take over the horde, caused the lore events of all of world of warcraft post wrath, and single handedly ruined the chance for the alliance and horde to end their rivalry
Aiden Perenolde was/is an NPC in Alterac Mountains from vanilla until WotLK, also currently in classic. He is the objective of the Wanted poster in Tarren Mill for the Horde faction.
Whoever did the hand-drawn portions of this video is super talented! Nice touch :)
no mention of medivh, the last guardian betraying the denizens of azeroth by opening the dark portal, inviting the orcs, and highhandedly starting the first war?
he was a little possessed by sargeras but still
I listen to these videos on my commutes to work in the morning, I absolutely love the channel!!
i hope blizzard is on the list. They betrayed Garrosh character
that was child's play, the real sin is them teasing the playerbase with a dance contest
@@Fabriciod_Crv Diablo teaser and wc3 refunded
They betrayed the playerbase with bfa gcds and class pruning
They betrayed the horde kek since thrall we didnt have a stable warchief, but damn i really hate blizzard i mean garrosh was an AWESOME character but they just go like meh lets make him a completely bad guy
He had it coming tho.... Reckless and dickish attitude. Extremely one-sided thinking, aroggant and cocky in everyway with very little regard to morality. It was inevitable that he would fall down that path
Illidan being called the betrayer after being a double agent is very fitting
It's so weird watching duel logs, and then having this video recommended. :)
Rachel's awesome art, Flying Butt's hilariously comic edits and Hiru's wonderful facts, what a TEAM!
Thanks so much gang! :)
Gasp. He’s using flying buttress. Amazing
He really makes my lore videos better
@@hirumaredx also, i love how he ad libs the lore
"so anyways there was this guy, he went kinda crazy but was killed by some random adventurers" - fair enough, yknow people wandering the lands slaying evil, makes sense
"so anyways there was this TITAN GOD, he went kinda crazy but was killed by some random adventuerers" - ...
Sylvanas betrayal gets it's own cinematic . " The horde is nothing!" " You are all nothing!"
Well.. she isn't all that wrong tho. I mean.. have you seen the shithole that is orgrimmar?
she was just having a bad day 😂😂😂
@@Kanuui- Excuse me?
Can't betray a loyalty you never had.
@@Kanuui- As a loyal member of the horde for years... can't even disagree. The horde hasn't been anything to be proud of since Thrall stopped running it.
*Doesen't adds Illidan to the list, but adds Maiev instead*
Maiev : *Angry warden gibberish*
0:27 - Maiev Shadowsong
3:54 - Shadow-Sage Iskar
6:12 - Loken
9:08 - Sargeras
10:42 - Deathwing
12:13 - Aiden Perenolde
13:58 - Sicco Thermaplugg
16:20 - Dar'khan
17:23 - Gul'dan
20:09 - Putress and Varimathras
@20:10 Yeah, Sylvanas was totally on board with all that. She was just smart enough to have other "traitors" be fall men for her while she shrugged and feigned ignorance. That was always the case.
It's like when Aethas Sunreaver was like "Lor'themar, I have no clue why Jaina's mad my guys and imprisoning them! We definitely didn't help Garrosh send a strike force into Darnassus to try to steal a small doomsday weapon!" Except Sunreaver never really got called out on that one by Lor'themar.
"We definitely didn't help Garrosh". He didnt. He found out later that one specific sunreaver did that and decided to not do anything about it out of fear that garrosh would murder a bunch of blelfs in revenge. he didnt expect that jaina would be just as quick to mass murder
16:16 so about that... he may have gone to the Maw and became one of the Jailer's torturers. The pet Mord'al Eveningstar says in its description "Some say in life he was known as Thermaplugg"
Xala'tah's betrayal was also pretty bitter sweet, the priests get her all powered up, and then she just leaves you to die to N'zoth when she escapes her prison.
i had no idea about the iskar and viryx novella, wow, thanks for illuminating me to that!
There are actually 11 betrayal's on his list. Good job on that honorable mention over the ending monologue
Zalazane alsp deserves a good spot. He didn't only betrayed Vol'jin, but he also got crazy for power and mind controlled most of the Darkspear and took the only home they had.
These videos are literally keeping me somewhat sane in quarantine
there is an undead deathknight in warcraft 3 named "Lord Perenolde"
i guess that was the fate of Perenolde
0:47
Yes it is
10:10 this whole universe must be purged!
You forgot something with Maiev: she left Tyrande to die by the undead just to get Malfurion's help to capture Illidan back in Warcraft 3.
Nice video, waiting on the next villain’s corner video.
An update to Sicco Thermaplugg in Shadowlands, there's a battle pet that is him in the afterlife so that's pretty much him confirmed to be dead!
Where is Ashbringer?!? Renault's betrayal is literally called the biggest betrayal and an act of pure of evilness.
you said you are gonna make a top 10 video of permanent abilities that came originally from tier sets, i hope we will see it soon.
Arthas' name must also have been there in this list, after all he betrayed Muradin, killed his own father and Uther, even betrayed Tichondrious indirectly who laid down the path to resurrect Kel Thuzad.
Arthas didn't "betray" anyone in a major way of his own free will. Between Stratholme and his acquisition of Frostmourne, his worst act was to lie to his men to stop them from abandoning him in Northrend. Muradin was knocked out cold by the ice shard from Frostmourne, it was unintentional. And afterwards Arthas was driven insane by the voices he heard from Frostmourne and lost his mind. Everything that he did following that, he did it as a vessel of NerZhul, or most importantly, the Jailor.
@@kuyt20 he absolutely betrayed the mercenaries, who he had killed before he ever took up frostmourne. Further he didnt immediately lose his personality when he drew frostmourne, he may have lost his soul but he was not an empty puppet like the scourge. He was still arthas.
@@lenkagamine4145 - If we're going to nit-pick, he also killed his own people at Stratholme. You really think a bunch of mercs on another continent will mean much to him after that? The difference is that at Stratholme, he had no other choice if he wanted to prevent Mal'Ganis from having a huge army of undead causing many more deaths in many more cities. At Northrend, he was already driven by vengeance from the events at Stratholme, so he cared very little for the mercs. They were only a means to an end.
And yes, he WAS driven mad by Frostmourne after killing Mal'Ganis. The game itself literally said so.
@@kuyt20 ...I dont quite understand what argument you made any more, thats basically what I was saying.
as for driven mad. sure, I'm not saying he would have just done all that stuff without frostmourne's influence. but it was an influence, he wasnt enslaved by it, he was still nominally in control of his actions to an extent. He already showed his ruthless streak before that (as you mentioned...), and more importantly we see many other death knights either conflicted, breaking free of the lich kings control at some point, or saying they dont want to do whatever they're doing, while arthas is more or less gleeful.
What I'm saying is, obviously he wouldnt have turned completely evil without frostmourne, but that seed of evil and ruthlessness was definitely there already. Frostmourne merely magnified it while stripping his inhibitions.
I'm 90% sure that the legion story line for Maiev was dropped because her voice actor had a throat surgery planned during the expansion and, after her part voicing in the Cathedral of Eternal Night dungeon, she needed to recover from her surgery.
13:43
Antonidas, Therenas Menethil II, Genn Greymane, and Daelin Proudmoore?
We now have confirmation that Thermaplug has done the dead.
If Maiev had been made a villain I would've been sad. She's such a great character.
I would dare say Kilrogg Deadeye. When he killed his father, when he killed, what, FOUR of his own descendants so they wouldn't even challenge his rule? He wanted to kill some of the other clans in the First War?
The title of this ought to get you like a bajillion views
I think the biggest lore betrayal was the Blood Elf people betraying Kaelthas. The people betrayed him several times. First of all when his army refused to capture Shattrath, second when they arrived to Outland, third when he returns to Quel thalas. The first two angered me but the third made sense. Kaelthas was awesome.
Just wanted to say thank you for not rolling all of your 'r's or whispering the entire video. Quite listenable
What a great vid once again... Ty
Tyrande: steals Illidan
Maiev: NANI!
Man watching your videos makes me want to play wow again when I can afford a new mobo
Maiev is like the NE version of Whitemane. I like them both.
Maybe they're saving her for a future warden class, at least I hope so.
How was the betrayal of LEEROY JENKINS not in here a bonus, hes more known than half the actual lore people on this list
The first thing that came to mind when I saw the title was when I heard that my pathetic magic betraaAAaaAAaays me.
Okay but the music during number 3 is really pretty
Hey! Some inaccuracies I noticed in your section about Dar’khan. I didn’t see anyone point it out. Dar’khan’s betrayal happens before Arthas enters the kingdom of Quel’thalas, not Silvermoon City. There’s a gate that separates Lordaeron from Quel’thalas that’s very well-protected and magically sealed, kind of like an elven Greymane Wall (which the Undead never did break through). Dar’khan agreed to open the gates to Quel’thalas and let the Undead in, which ravaged the kingdom. His second task was to deactivate Ban’dinoriel, the great barrier protecting Silvermoon and the Sunwell (according to the Ghostlands trilogy, which I havent read) so I guess his betrayal is technically twofold: opening the gates to quel’thalas and taking down the barrier Ban’dinoriel.
I like believing it was Sylvanas behind Wrathgate... secretly. She saw an opening and struck.
Sicco thermaplugg truly went sicko mode.
“Hehe betrayal time”
Love the editing
I expected Deathwings betrayal to be much higher than that lol
I LOVE your drawings!
Blizzard turning The Helm of Domination into a tiara should have been number one as the worst betrayal in Warcraft history.
Alan Brack's "You think you do, but you don't" would probably be the worst betrayal if he didn't get overruled.
What about Medivh? His betrayal of humanity is what started the whole Warcraft
in theory it was sargeras, who is on the list
You don't need titan keepers to kill old gods, just throw trolls at them. Like, all of the world supply of trolls. Just send them. Deploy the last resort: Trolls.
Loken was basically a mini villains corner
Hiru: uploads
Me: wow it's called "Top 10 betrayals in Warcraft"
The video: includes paid promotion
Me: 😱
This is a bit of a minor nitpick but at 9:05 the guy asking if the mount dropped is technically inaccurate because, up until Cataclysm, Mimiron's Head was a 100% drop so long as you fulfilled the requirements (No help from Titan Watchers) So, it's redundant to ask if the mount dropped.
For Aiden Perenolde, are you sure it's not Aliden Perenolde? Cause we have a quest at level 40 in Alterac to kill him.
Here is a quote by Alex Afrasiabi, A writer for Blizzard. I said it at the time and I was proven right. “I’ve heard these discussions on the internet about ‘she’s going off the rails’, but is she? I’ve been writing Sylvanas personally since 2006, and this is pretty much - the Wrathgate and the Blight and the Forsaken - in character. Those were all under Sylvanas’ orders. What we’re seeing now is an escalation of the plans Sylvanas has, clearly, and we’re in the middle of that.”
Medivh opening the dark portal should probably also be on this list
Yea for Sure, i asked myself why Hes not on that list, its probably the biggest betrayle that Happend on Azeroth
I love the dramatisations lmao
10:26 Funny how he just Liu Kang the everyone ass : ) !!!
Also i bet Atlas is in this video.
Edit: i was wrong : ( !!!
There are many more betrayals please make a 2nd part.
