  • Cast iron rusts quickly, especially in high-heat applications. Painting exhaust manifolds always ends with flaking paint and rust underneath. You can stop this with one application of @Slipplate Slip Plate spray graphite.

    This process works on any cast iron material, in fact it works great on tube headers and other parts that you want to keep looking nice for years without worry.
    What makes this process so good is that this isn't paint, it is spray-on liquid graphite. Once the binder has evaporated, the graphite is bonded to the metal. If you get a run in the coating, don't stress it! You can simply buff it smooth with a towel. Graphite is not effected by extreme heat, it can withstand over 3000 degrees F, so the exhaust temps won't even phase it.
    Jefferson shows you the entire process on how to prep, spray, and finish the Slip Plate process. Spray, dry, buff, done.

    Thank you for posting this great video. Can this manifold be painted over on top of the graphite?

      @Reddirtrodz  25 днів тому

      No, the graphite color is the only option. Nothing will stick to it. But it stays clean for a long time and can be touched up without looking touched up. It always blends together

      @@ReddirtrodzHad bought two cast Iron exhaust manifolds which supposedly came painted with ceramic paint from the factory. I sprayed both of them with CERAKOTE Cobalt high heat color. I am restoring this Chevy Truck. one manifold started rusting in few spots. The other one is still perfect. Looking for a way to stop the rust so I can repaint it. Thank You

    I want to try this out. Any idea what kind of solvent(s) I can bath a manifold in?

      If you have a rusty manifold, there are several things you can use. Rustsolve, Eastwood Rust Dissolver, or just plain old molasses. You would be surprised at how effect molasses is at removing rust. The rust dissolvers are reusable several times, so it makes it worth it. Just put it in the smallest container you can find, and cover it. 24 hrs later, fresh and clean. Then coat it!

      @@Reddirtrodz Thanks! ;) I'm thinking grease and oil will burn off with heat, leaving a great surface for rubbing the graphite into. I'm definitely going to give this a whirl.

      So can I just spray this on my rusty manifold without taking it out of my car? Letting it dry over night before I start it?

    Does this only work for cast iron or will stainless steel tube headers work too

    • @stizolac
      @stizolac 5 місяців тому

      Also curious if it would work on polished stainless steel vs raw stainless steel?

    • @Reddirtrodz
      @Reddirtrodz  5 місяців тому +1

      @stizolac it will work, but they will be dark gray. It will stick to raw, polished is going to probably not stick as well.
      There are other coatings that are better for stainless.

    Your Amazon link is bad.... comes up as an oscilloscope, not slip plate. It looks like slip plate has several products, so I'm not sure which one you used.

    Might want to wear a mask. Just saying. Old adage, if you spray it, you breath it.

    This is BS, I did this this and it washed off with an indirect pressure wash.

      Then you didnt prep it well and sprayed it over an oily surface. I have this on many, many vehicles, and it works really well.
