    Also the reason Herman Goring is the ruler of MittleAfrika is because his father was colonial governor of German South West Africa. So he has connections, is a popular war hero, and is too extremist to be allowed in Germany proper.
    Therefore the powers that be decide to kick him off to Africa to be someone else's problem.

      @@seamusfinnegan1164, I wouldn't say that Mittelafrika would be "bassically Germany takeing on the Beglian Congo model of colony", because if that was the case, then Mittelafrika would've collapsed long before Goering ever had a chance to become Vizekonig (Viceroy). The colony would more be like a very strange, African version of the Holy Roman Empire almost, where there's a central colonial government in Dar-es-Salaam, led by Goering, with various governors ruling smaller regions within, and then there would be hundreds, if not thousands, of various kingdoms, protectorates, and colonial provinces that answer in those governors in an almost feudal manner, whereby the Statthalters (Governors) give protection to all these different polities if they send men to become Askari within the colonial Shultztruppe (Security Forces), send taxes, and act as vassals to the colonial government. That's not even mentioning the Anglo-German Protectorates, which are a whole 'nother thing entirely. So this colony would definitely not run itself like the Belgian Congo, and Goering would actually be pretty sucky as a Viceroy. Which is why in the game he's usually either removed from power, or the whole system collapses in on itself.

    I think an important bit missed in the video is that in every scenario Macarthur launches a coup first in what amounts to a scaled up and successful Business Plot combined with what Macarthur did in real life in breaking up the Bonus Army, which is what justifies every other faction in no longer recognizing the legitimacy of the government and starting a civil war in universe. It muddies the waters as to whether Macarthur's faction is "Kemalist style coup led by an apolitical military to get rid of political extremism" or more of a "1940s version of Pinochet's Junta."

    I played as the US (and continued as the US in the civil war), and the civil war was a very close affair. At one point I was down to seven divisions holding Washington DC.
    I came back to win the civil war after biding my time, (somehow) recruiting some more divisions, and hitting hard after the other factions began to ignore me and fight each other. It was pretty satisfying.

    The massive clusterf**** of the 2nd ACW, depending on how the events play out in game is my favorite part of KR. The fact that Combined Syndicates of America (CSA) is in the north, and the American Union State (AUS) is in the south pure irony. Then throw in the Feds led by MacArthur, desperately trying to hold the country together by force, New England as a Canadian puppet, the West Coast declaring themselves as the true democratic government. Also Hawaii goes surfing.

    I would love for you to look into the HOI4 mod "The New Order". Its one of the few gaming experiences about running a country that really shows you the perspectives of the average person who has to deal with whatever policy is passed. Whether its a mother having her newborn killed minutes after it was born for not being "Aryan" enough, but also having to name it for the sake of bureaucracy, a family calculating and distributing the limited amount of calories rationed to them due to being based in the Arctic Circle and bombed by German planes every day, or a Chinese intellectual who is forced to work with Japanese people who claim to be your best friends while also thinking they're racially superior to you. @@VloggingThroughHistory I'm under the impression that the Papal States were never a distinct entity (in the same way one may say that the Byzantine Empire never was one either). Instead being simply the label we use to refer to those lands which were under the direct control of the Holy See during the period, and in that sense it seems sensible to me to consider the Vatican City to be the direct continuation of the Papal States. I may obviously be wrong though.
      Either way the main point of my nitpick was that there still is a state under direct control of the Pope: Vatican City. And that, arguably, there has always been one for more than a thousand years. Even during the whole 'Prisoner in the Vatican' ordeal after italian unification the Holy See never renounced sovereignty over the Vatican, that being the reason why Vatican City exists today.

    Although the scenario isn’t the most realistic (I’m not a fan of how they handle the Russian civil war, Germany going back to Russia is illogical) The Syndicalist method and the use of Socialism as a militant movement is a very interesting parallel to the rise of Fascism in our timeline, albeit more violent. I always saw the UK in this mod acting as a What if scenario for if the Italian government resisted Mussolini’s March on Rome.
    Also in this mod FDR dies early in his life. It’s done as a butterfly effect to prevent the New deal and to let Long take the spotlight, because let’s be honest it would be boring to recreate the real life US 1930s. What I find really sad is that the Kaiserreich often get so massively missportrait as a kind of "Nazi-Germany light" that has similar goals which IS NOT NEARLY the case. The Kaiserreich was 1914 the second biggest economy of the world and Berlin the fastest growing city in the world. Bismarck actually has built a system that would have bring Germany long term to the top but when he was away Wilhelm the second was to naiv and thought he could fasten this process with his overmighty military and get new colonies. That was Wilhelms main goal which he made pretty clear to the upper Reich government, to get colonies from Britain and France and make more money to get Germany on the top of the world and not by conquering new land in Europe.(and of course his ego played a big role because even if he was out of office for nearly 20 years at this point, Bismarck was still seen as father of the nation and was much more popular then Wilhelm the first , so Wilhelm II wanted to to show he was better then Bismarck by dismantle his plan and do it by his own way which of course failed)

    Actually, the Qing in the 18th and early 19th century was an economic powerhouse that exerted tremendous control over their neighbors. Even the Ming dynasty before the industrial revolution was probably the most powerful nation in the world militarily, economicly, and diplomaticly. Today's china being those things is nothing new, (except for industrialization) its just another stage in the cycle.

    A few corrections:
    1. I'm sure that the capital of the Italian Republic in Kaiserreich is Milan, not Venice. In-game, there is an event where Venice can declare independence, and the Italian Republic will fight to retake it.
    2. Chinese unification did not only occur in the 20th century (and technically, China is still divided). China has, for most of its history, been one of the most unified nations on earth, and is a self-reconstructing state. The concept of the Chinese state is embodied in the Mandate of Heaven, which can be gained by unifying China under one's rule. As such, every Chinese warlord's aim, especially ever since the Song Dynasty which greatly centralised the nation, was not to carve out independent domains for oneself, but to instead unify China and claim the Mandate. Similarly, barbarians who invade and fully subjugate China seek to unify China, become Chinese, and claim the Mandate. This is demonstrated in that during the past millennium, China was united for 800 of those years. "China's whole again, then it broke again" is really a myth, or at least greatly exaggerated.

    • @derpidius6306
      @derpidius6306 2 роки тому +2

      I mean, it isn't really a myth, when you're a country as old as China, its inevitable that no matter how stable it was, it broke up significantly more than most if not all modern nation states

    • @pascalausensi9592
      @pascalausensi9592 2 роки тому +4

      I've always taken the "China's whole again, then it broke again" phrase as a reference to China's dynasty cycle more than anything else (iirc China changes their ruling dynasty every 300 years or so, on average). That China is a self-reconstructing state is even implied by the "China's whole again" part.

    I'm not sure I agree with your comments about China. It has almost always been a big homogenous country and for most of its history, it has been the preeminent country on earth. Consider how all of its neighbors would copy Chinese culture in order to trade with them or how for centuries, Europeans went to great lengths to reach China so that they could trade with them. Indeed, China's lack of development economically or militarily only became apparent during the first opium war when Britan's industrialized army trounce the Chinese. Before that, China was so huge, that it didn't need to be industrialized to compete economically with a more industrialized nation.
    Well, that's a very short take on why I disagree with your statement that China wasn't a united polity or wasn't a major power before the communist took over. I could go on, but this is a pretty big topic.
    Anyway, great video! Love your work.

    • @DovahFett
      @DovahFett 2 роки тому +2

      Depending on how you define what constitutes China, it still isn’t united politically. The Communists don’t control all the lands that the Qing did, and the Qing didn’t control everything that Yuan did. What exactly is considered the Chinese people and Chinese land has changed tremendously over the last 2000 years as the borders of Chinese states have waxed and waned. I believe the government of Taiwan still claims the country of Mongolia as its rightful territory, since it inherited the claims of the Qing.
      And I’m not sure I would call it the preeminent country on Earth for most of its history. It has existed alongside Rome, the Ottomans, and the many European colonial empires. I would rate all of those as being more influential on the world stage than whatever dynasty was in power in China at the times that they coexisted.

      @@DovahFett Calling China "not unified" because it isn't at its maximum historical extent is a bit ridiculous. By that metric almost no countries are unified. It's more about the core territory of a nation, which I would label for China as just north of Beijing, down to Yunnan, and left to Tibet. Regions outside of here are more outskirts that aren't as important when talking about whether China is "unified" or not.
      I would also argue claiming other nations as more influential is kind of biased. Each of these were extremely influential in their respective regions, with very little overlap. I would personally argue that the amount of time that China has spent being the undisputed military, economic and political number 1 in history constitutes it being labelled the most influential. It's really only the last 200 years where it briefly fell behind Europe/USA, compared to many thousands of years where it has been far ahead of other regions.

    I would definitely argue against your statement that China had never really been a united nation until the 20th century. • @ac1455

      China proper (excluding later acquisition of the south) has pretty much been unified for at least half of the time since the Qin. Sure you have the equivalent of local barons and dukes like the Romans had governors but the various states have always fought civil wars to reunite like Augustus with Rome instead of say the mongols to khwarezm. even then, china has always been more unified on a cultural basis than Rome as a Gaul would be vastly different from an Egyptian or Hellenic person.
