Early The cult is as hypnotic as they are unique. Such a great sound.
The Cult 1984-1986 period - one of the greatest performances in rock history. Absolutely brilliant.
You left 1987 out.. ELECTRIC!!
Rick Rubin was great but I prefer the manor sessions
I was into this - bit I wasn't a Got - or was I? I probably was was a Goth but not an Uber Goth . -#'wow!
After electric it all went Pete Tom
@@garygareth Duffy got his stadium rock, and Ian found the drugs...
I love very early stuff by The Cult, and Ghost Dance, and especially Southern Death Cult. It's cool to hear this version of "Spiritwalker." That's one of my favorite songs. The best version was on "The Indie Scene 1984" UK CD compilation from 1991. It sounds much better than the mix on the Dreamtime album.
Billy Duffy's haircut opened the hair styles of many futures rockers. nuff said
The first step on the hairway to steven
This band are so great! So varied, so cool and skilld1 The can play anything - from Goth to hard rock! Loved them since 1987!
To me the cult were at there best in the early days brilliant ❤
AMAZING! THE CULT! no other band can play so well any kind of rock n roll with all the power, elegance and sensibility. This is absolutely hypnotic, like The Doors or Joy Division at their peak. I LOVE THE CULT! Everybody: go buy Under The Midnight Sun,now!
your comparisons are spot on
Great to hear this ! Loved Dreamtime live at the Lyceum ! Loved Nigel Preston’s drumming on it and still play it regularly
Saw them in Liverpool last week. Fucking magnificent. Basically played the Lyceum gig 1984.
A truly unique combination of musical talent ❤ It's brilliant! I collected everything on vinyl at this point and later.caught them on Electric 87' but now it's Rock City Nottingham Mon 13/11/23 for the Southern Death Cult. Proper! Just alittle older in body, not mind. Can't wait to hear Astbury and The Falcon singing again 😊
It was Death Cult....Not Southern Death Cult....👍
im glad they got Rick Rubin on board to sort this out. I love all things Cult. Electric is a classic.
Some great music from the early days of The Cult
The cult are touring this year, uk 🇬🇧 I’m hoping to go see them as I didn’t get to 1st time round. They’re awesome.
Love how Ian's
Hendrix shirt. It truly solidifies the "Goth" street cred of the band. Their early sound, owes more neo~psychedelia. Perhaps, the SOUTHERN DEATH CULT/DEATH CULT would fit into the "Goth" category.
Always cool hearing early versions of Electric era material. I saw them on that tour opening for Billy Idol, but, as cool as that was, and as cool as the album Electric was, I'd still prefer to have seen them before the stylistic shift. Love was my favourite album of theirs. Also, that skipping at the end of Electric Ocean was right in time, it took me a second to realize it was skipping! 🤣🤣🤣
Ahhh, always noticed the similarity between She Sells Sanctuary and Love Removal Machine and now I see how the former emerged from
the latter.
You can't interpret goth rock better and more sensitively.
Together with this extraordinarily memorable voice, which perfectly complements the sound, the group set standards in the demanding underground environment.
Incredible words my friend ☺️
Loved the old Cult tunes
エレクトリック以降も好きなんやけど、ゴシックからロックンロールに移行する前のも好きやな❤good👍
Coffee, spliff and this good way to start the day. First time listening.
RIP Nigel Preston 🙏🏻
Haven't heard this in years, but went to see The Cult last week. Glad they played Spiritwalker. Thanks for posting and the trip down memory lane.
Had no idea they were still together. Great band, I absolutely loved them back in the late 80's/early 90's
THE CULT, SUPER BANDA!!
BRAVOSSSS!!!!!😂🇧🇷🇧🇷🤘
Great compilation . I have just caught them on the UK leg of their tour, and they were terrific.
Yeah awesome
"Love Removal Machine" before the "Start Me Up" riff-off ❤
That version of All Souls Avenue is my favourite - this was on a Janice Long session and I ADORE it!
Not to be pedantic, but the track in question is entitled "All Souls Avenue", not "Old Souls Avenue".
@@Albrecht777 yeah I know that! I was really tired when I typed my reply and just edited it!
Cult is the Cult❤!!! 👌👍
Post punk goth von finest .🖤🖤🖤
Their best and their darker album, ever!
Thank you for posting this, One of my favorite bands, l had the opportunity to see them in concert here in Vancouver bc Canada in the 80s, lncredible show l will never forget.
For me, unique, and great, glorious in every step, in every album; and saw them with Ceremony album at Somalive in San Diego, CA.
this early 80s gothic rock sound is so hard
this is absolutely brilliant - so good to hear it again after so long !
Cool to hear them trying out the material that became revamped/etc. on Electric. Meaning the last 2 tunes, of course.
This is Pure Cult, this is GOLD! Thank you!!!
Billy and Ian just one of the Top 5 duos of all time in rock history. God Bless you both (and all the other bandmates) for your amazing mark in history.
I wish Jamie had stayed with the band. He played with The Cult 7 years and decided to walk away to have a normal life with his wife. He had the best smile and moves with that bass.
What a voice 🤘🏼
By the time Electric was released The Cult had pretty much dropped most early stuff from their live performances except for maybe Spiritwalker. Seeing them as Death Cult in 2023 and hearing a set with nothing later than She Sells Sanctuary was mind-blowing. Also in hindsight I much prefer the Manor Sessions versions of the Electric tracks.
Yeah Billy said he didn't use the white falcon on electric
I'll always prefer Death Cult/Dreamtime to what came later, but if I was picking a version of Electric I'd still pick Rick Rubin's. I do think the band made the right call, that the songs had become bloated, unfocussed, over-long, and collapsing under their own weight, and something radical had to be done.
I don't necessarily agree with the heavy metal direction though, just that Rick Rubin's Electric was better than Steve Brown's Peace, but both were highly flawed. If they were going to move in a different direction I think something akin to the Gun Club's Mother Juno might have suited them better, and had more longevity.
Thank you! I think the Peace album was far superior to the American radio of Electric.
Yes!!!!
Love that version of resurrection Joe
Great songs, guitars and vocals. Thank you for share. 😊
Drumming
Impresionantes, The Cult en sus inicios era de lo mejorcito.
I remember I was in love with your RARE version by The Cult. Great upload Gene!!
Huguito
The late great Nigel Preston would have been drumming on the first 4 tracks , not sure after that. Some of these later songs were on the cassingle releases, esp LRMacheeeeeeaan from Electric album.
❤❤❤
Just love this ,, These guys really got me Interested In this type of music. Love those riffs
Great!!! Thanks 🖤 one of my favourites post punk bands 🤘🏼
Thanks for posting this (unofficial) compilation of The Cult's best Radio One sessions here.
It's a shame that "Electric Ocean" sticks, though... .
I agree. Les Stewart was a killer drummer!
No wonder they were good, dude had the ghost of Jimi Hendrix living in his chest
🖤
Legendary 🎉❤
Hearing that stoned sound is the best thing ever 🤟🤟🤟🤟🇧🇷🇧🇷
one of the best bands
Wow I don't think I've heard Love Removal Machine done in the "old" style. They definitely punched it up later.
Heard this version of Big Neon Glitter on radio 1 Janice Long show hundreds of years ago and was instantly addicted . I think better than album version…….just saying. Have a good day everyone.
Thank you for posting this
I prefer "this" earlier the cult much more than the "other" very Americana-influenced (and highly successful, commercially speaking) The Cult.
Love this
Amazing
Thank you! Muito obrigado 🇧🇷
I love this version of "Love Removal Machine". Dare I say I like it more than the version on the Electric album. It's incredible what Rick Rubin was able to do with the band between Love and Electric. I am a die hard Cult fan but I still have a special place in my heart for the pre Electric album Cult ☮
I think this is the peace remix version, I have a similar one on vinyl.
I like the jangling verses better, but I don't like the guitar lick in the chorus. It stands out too much. I would love to hear this version with chorus lick removed, it would be perfect.
Qué guapada
fantastic ! ♥
Never was a Cult fan, their stuff always felt too lite for my taste, but I saw this video and gave it a shot. Still pretty lite, but I don't regret it, it's a good selection. Reminded me of my childhood.
Check out Beyond Good and Evil. They almost sound like a different band.
Yawn
You'd like their post 86 stuff more.. totally different. Less Indie more driving rock. It feels almost American. Electric in 1987 was my favorite non filler album from that year, and their rendition of Born to be Wild is still the best ever cover of the Steppenwolf classic.
Listen to Live at Marquee 1991 and tell me again if it was too lite for your taste.
OH HERE BRASIL 🇧🇷 GREAT SONG 📻 🎼 🎶 😎🙏
Resurrection Joe...
Classic!!!
GOATS!

Love onwards is best. Bad medicine waltz, horse nation and live Mya are good though
SENSACIONAL!!!

DEATH CULT - GHOST DANCE
Lo que suenan por DIOS!!!!!
ALSDORF FESTIVAL,first time in 8?,haha. Ian gived me his wine bottle,...
Very lucky! I've read he drank 4 bottles a night there towards the end of the Sonic Temple tour. He was burned out and really needed therapy. He had an f'kd up life.
O man
Believe me
I'm not going anywhere but here
