"Take all the paiiiiin... in your veiiiins..." The Sweetness of Pain... Some of my fave lyrics ever. So deep and personnal and yet shared by everyone here.... Globally the whole first 3 albums are monumental masterpieces. True Musical Bliss.
I've been listening to post-punk/goth, darkwave/shoegaze, whatever you want to call it, for a long time. But this is a damn deep, deep gem. I'm amazed at how long under the radar this band is. Yet so many modern bands try to sound just like this.
@Fernanda Rojo It is not long ago that he left, just as you must have many people who still do not know simply because this information has not been widely disseminated, only in the specialized media and who follows the official page
I wonder wether the Touching Pop in general is somewhat out of grasp for the anglo-americans (I mean mainly the ones who have a "chauvinistic" view on "Rock" music and are so focused on the "anglo-sphere" bands). Even some snobbish French Rock critics disregarded at the time the Touching Pop for being... "French".
I have been around for only 13 years in my life as of right now, I have listened to many song, bands, and albums in my lifetime and there are still so many more for me to listen to. But if I ever had a top 10 most favorite albums AND bands, it'd be this album and band right here. This is gold, this album will be the thing that'll keep me going for the rest of my life. Asylum Party is a blessing for me. Rest In Peace, Thierry Sobezyk.
Right now sitting in Le Conquet, Bretagne in my holidays one could think White Light was written for this part of France. For me it is one of the most beautiful songs of the 80s like Love in a car from the House of love.
THE french so called "touching pop" mouvement in the Cold wave. White light, Sweetness of pain ... still in my soul, 37 years after, unparalleled melancholy so far, for ever It reminds me too my old-friend Gaetan, a young artist, clan member of Asylum Party - gone to young ❤
Julia is a gem. Like a poppier Marian, the Sisters Of Mercy's classic. A classic in its own right. This is the song I remember from back then when I was into this so-called touching pop "scene" (I liked Little Nemo a lot).
Man the opening track blows my mind. It creates one of the most nostalgic 80s feelings imaginable in me. Makes me remember all kinds of things about my life from those years, and I've never even heard this album before (no idea how as I pretty much listen to post punk exclusively these days). What a find!
I just keep coming back here. It would be so cool to get a copy of this album. I only discovered this band maybe a year and a half ago but I listened to it so much it formed one of those emotional music memories where whenever I hear it it takes me back to where I was and how I felt when I was listening to it all the time.
As with the 60s, and the 70s, the 80s brought us such creative treasures predating modern sterilized efforts. Asylum Party is a perfect example of minimalized effects, maximum talent.
So true !!! I remember me listening to this perfect moment again and again when I was 15 in 1988, seeing in my dreams my girlfriend... She became my wife and she's sleeping just beside me right now... "Every moment of my life still lives in your eyes" Magic

One band that comes to mind is The Sound with songs like "Hothouse", "Counting the Days", and "Unwritten Law." Sad Lovers and Giants also had a similar style with songs like "Colourless Dream." Their side band, The Snake Corps also had this style with less emphasis on the synth but a lot of great bass. The Chameleons second album with songs like "P.S. Goodbye" also has a similar vibe to this asylum party album. The Comsat Angels album '7 Day Weekend' and 'Land' are also worth checking out. Lastly I would recommend maybe checking out some The Danse Society.
For a current band I highly recommend Soft Kill. They're directly inspired by Asylum Party. They've done a split 7" inch with them and they are releasing a compilation album for them as well.
Love this band and have both (?) of their cd releases on Lively Art recordings. Have not seen this, but I imagine it to be a ep release on vinyl sometime after their debut cd, Borderline, since none of these songs are on said cd Borderline.
It's been long sold out now, but the easiest place to get a copy is on Discogs. Here's a link to the release page: www.discogs.com/Asylum-Party-Picture-One/release/8643024
Yeah that's true. I think it was 20 or so bucks for the reissue on the Deadnwell site. They just recently reissued their second album Borderline which I highly suggest you get a copy of.
Julia is one of the most underrated songs ever. This band is really something special. Love underground classics.
Before The Smile is even more underrated
I hear it on a lot of mixes…

I'm still sad about the news. I had no idea losing an idol hurt so much.
Yes my friend unfortunately, he passed away in July last year. See the news on the band's official facebook page ...
@Fernanda Rojo Yes. But the details about his death have not been revealed

R.I.P.
The song Julia is by far the most miraculous song. If it was a British band instead of France, it would have been more appreciated.

Its better
Not sure where you’re getting OMD from but the other 3 are accurate
