If you were to ask a new or relatively new student of guitar if they were interested in learning barre chords why would you think they’d know what a barre chord even is or why it was important to their guitar study?

I just used barre chords as an example for the lesson, obviously the person has to have have been introduced to the technique or skill for this to make sense.
