A REAL petrolhead driving the new Phantom and not one of the many BS supercar channels. Last week you drove a Miura and now this. Please Harry keep this up. Your channel is absolute gold. That is a FACT, not an opnion!!!!!!!!!!
Lord mudder of God hwere does this guy get all this money from to buy a 300 k car!? What is wrong with the 2003 phantom, which actually has more character, and a more solid look, for say 80 grand. And how much money does this Harry make from this channel!!!!?
@@jackthompson361 Test driving them doesn't mean he owns them. I doubt the money to buy them would be achieved on a youtube channel either, even with a 1/4 mill subscribers.
Harry could actually own one of these if he wanted to, so his perspective is more critical than that of most automotive journalists, who tend to be overwhelmed by the car. His observation that the new Phantom's ride is not as good as his old-model Rolls mirrors my experience in the current Jaguar XJ. My old (2001) XJR rides substantially better. The culprit on the new-generation luxury cars is big wheels wearing very low profile tires. Tires play a vital role in absorbing road impacts, and low-profile tires are lousy at doing this. But they are the fashion and appearances are important in this market. In his speed bump segment Harry is underwhelmed, which makes me wonder how well the car's road-detecting cameras actually prepare the suspension for upcoming irregularities. On the back roads there seems to be no evidence of the nav system anticipating upcoming hills and turns and shifting gears accordingly. At least, Harry didn’t mention it. He did, however, comment that the suspension's travel limits were easily reached, a bit of a surprise. And rather shockingly, on the freeway the car wouldn’t track straight - the steering needed constant correction. This is a mortal sin for any luxury car, and unacceptable for this one. On the plus side, the Phantom's presence is unmatched in the industry. The quality of materials and construction suit the price. The manufacturer extracts amazing fuel efficiency without compromising performance. In the back seat . . . Harry should know that a limo passenger always sits on the curb side. That is why the front passenger seat can be moved out of the way. Space seems adequate for the standard-wheelbase car, but no more. The necessary amenities are in place without going overboard as Mercedes do with the Merc-Maybach. The on-screen entertainment/navigation features are the most sophisticated I’ve seen on any car. I’ve learned more about this car from Harry's review than from all the other reviews combined. He demystifies the Phantom and evaluates it as a car, not as a Rolls. Once again Harry comes through for us non-wealthy motorheads.
I don’t know why people purchase luxury cars and put low profile tyres on them, case and point on a Range Rover, I couldn’t get rid of them quick enough
That's Harry's opinion, I'm sure a Rolls Royce representative could chop his opinion up, you can separate this car from a Rolls, it's not a car it's a Rolls Royce not even Harry can deminish a automobile that's made of the highest standards and quality, and performance in the automotive world, the automobile is simply beautyl in motion, the Mona Lisa of the automotive world, comparing it to any other automobile of less stature is insulting, it's worse than comparing first class travel on a air plane to coach traveling.I would take this automobile before I would take anything in Harry's garage, people have literally lost control of their vehicle on the highway looking at when it passes them by because they are captivated by the sheer beauty of it.
Harry is just a baller make no mistake. From caning his own Ferrari leaving from his boat to driving through Spain on vintage Honda Africa bikes the man is awesome.
I like how he's honest to the point of actual British comedy. Like, he almost bottomed out on those bumps and all he had to say was "Oh, dear..". Somehow, that said it all. And with those parking cameras, most people would just be amazed by it and praise it as an amazing feature and he was just "I'm not sure why you'd need it, but cool" :)))
It's rather refreshing, yes. It's nothing like that Shmee guy. I don't know if he's afraid that a car company will not let him test, if he has not got the first clue about cars, or if he in fact is so easy to impress and that he's always just in it for the brand and a bit of a brown nose. That guy always raves on about how great every luxury car he test is, rather than providing the viewers with a proper honest review. And then there's his horrid squeaky voice... Harry, James May and VBH, are definitely some of the best UK motoring journalists.
Sorry but I have to disagree. Shmee (and most of the other reviewers) drove it like it's intended and Harry drove it like a hooligan. If you road tested a Lambo' and complained that it didn't waft around country roads and was loud and had crap fuel economy would you class that as an 'honest review'? You 'test' something against what it's intended use is and what it's advertised to do. If it falls short of that then you should criticise. A Rolls Royce cannot defy the laws of physics and driving over bumps at that speed and expecting anything other than some reaction from the car is unrealistic. Sit in the back and have someone drive over the bump at a reasonable speed and the Rolls will waft over it - like it's designed to.
Driving smoothly over bumps is a real use case for RR, and I do agree with Harry that its a bit disappoiting. Just not long ago, Audi A8 released the Ai Active Suspension, that deals perfectly with bumps. RR should have at least do as well as they do.
Sam Cameron-Berko nah not really, he even already given examples that his Much Older RR, the Silver Shadow with its Citroën suspension would take that bumps and dynamic Road better, that's a 60YO tech there. Yes the new Phantom beats it in its silent cabin definitely, but Road quality seems to be lacking for one that has cars with better experience.
in Harry's admirable gentleman way He described the car truthfully but delicately..it appears that there were to many facets of this boat that did not impress Harry..a beautiful car..but i do not think this is a car Harry would really want...as always..Harry is a class act...
Amazing video as always. Really surprised at the ride, finally a reviewer who is fully honest and uses real life tests on every review. Keep up the videos.
There's no wind noise there, he himself said so in the video, the microphone just picks up something else that actually isn't audible by the passenger of the car.
This is a proper review, there are those that try to be overly theatrical or pander to a manufacturer. I like Harry’s reviews, his reviews are incredibly relatable and seemingly independent of any influence. I hope he continues to do many more !!!
I'm amazed this Phantom's suspension doesn't beat the Citroën hydropneumatic suspension of your Silver Shadow. The tech used in the Silver Shadow is over 60 years old!
Not sure how many drivers sit down in a Roller and start talking about 4 point racing harnesses! Love your insight and content Harry. Great stuff as always. Glad you are going for quality over quantity. Makes each one something to savour. What an exquisite motor car, even if not a perfect one. Some aspects of the looks are maybe not me, but then as I'm not the target audience, that probably means it's perfect for purpose! As a piece of art and craftsmanship and just for the lunacy of it all - wow.
Finally an honest review of the new Phantoms ride, with great video shots of vehicle movement. Other reviews just don't seem realistic with just too many superlatives describing the "magic carpet ride", great review Harry.
Not sure you will find the time to read comments of your videos, but having stumbled across your vehicle reviews I have to say I find them very refreshing. You really should have your own tv show!
This probably is the first, honest and unbiased review I've seen on the new Phantom. All the other so called motor journalists seem to just have jumped on the hype train. Love your videos. Keep it up Harry.
Great, honest, well-judged review. Car sounds pretty noisy on the video though. Might be worth experimenting with a sound setup that makes the cars seem on video as loud (or quiet) as they seem to you.
Great video - love your down to earth style for what is clearly not a down to earth car.....would love a ride in one but generally eyuk!...I'd rather have a top spec Range Rover at half the price....
Becomes a matter of, you can have a Range Rover that will last you 4 years and depreciate heavy or a rolls that lasts you 14 years and still cost as much as a fully spec ranges I see where the value it..and it’s definitely the latter
Hi TMF! I never knew you were a car man too. Ironically I am watching this in July 2024 as I am rather tempted to buy a Phantom from this (ish) year. Like you I love motorcycles, but I reckon I have one more 'big car purchase' left in me before I retire and before petrol engine cars are banned, and the Phantom tops my list. I did previously own a Rolls Royce Ghost which is also an incredible car, but there's just something about the Phantom..I guess it's like your Honda Gold Wing, there's just nothing else quite like it. Regards, Bib (Julian actually, but Bib seems much more interesting!)
I just had the privilege of driving a previous generation Phantom Coupe only last week, I was blown away by the quality and attention to detail. However, it seems like the new Phantom is truly in another league. Thanks for the great video Harry!
other way around previous phantom usurps new phantom on the low key (don't tell anyone XD) same reason chris harris of EVO magazine and now Top Gear UK has a 2004 RR phantom :)
As a citizen of the U S of A, I would just like to thank you, for taking me along for a fantastic 'tour', in a wonderful vehicle/conveyance. I have just one concern. I am an amputee. When I was fourteen years old, I was involved in a traffic accident, that resulted in me losing my left leg, and damage to my right knee, that seriously impaired/reduced, the 'flexion' in that knee. In your video, when you are sitting in the rear seat, it looks like you don't really have a great deal of legroom. Is it possible to increase the rear seat legroom from the rear seat?
The rear curtain option, those adjustable floorboards and the Star light roof, now with “shooting stars” are my must have options. Black outside with stainless bonnet and orange leather with black carpets. Standard wheel base is more than enough. Personally I’d have a Wraith here in the US.
Thanks for another great review Harry! The surround view is available on the 7-series and 5-series as well. A neat feature is that you can actually call it up on your smartphone and see if your car is still safe.
An elegant design has sweeping graceful curves, like the female form. Straight lines and slab sides are more masculine which work great on some cars but not on a Rolls imo
Excellent Harry! I’ve pretty much stopped watching anyone else but you Jay Leno and one or two others. Thank you for simplifying my selections. Cheers!
I'm the same with his motorcycle reviews. I only watch Harry. Plus a few others. Teapot One, Missenden Flyer, 'On the Road', Freddie Dobbs, Mindful Motorcyclist, Lamb Chops Rides, plus another dozen or so. But apart from those I only watch Harry. Just like you.
I would really like to see Harry review a Citroen DS. I also firmly believe that is a definite classic to buy right now. Absolutely iconic car, beloved all throughout Europe and extraordinary in it's innovative historical significance. Surprised it isn't more talked about in these classic collectable circles. That said, I kinda hope it stays that way long enough for me to save up for one.. Which is too long.
Umm ok, I see your point but the 2Cv suspension was interconnected longitudinally using springs. Rolls (and McLaren) used hydraulic fluid to connect each corner.. but yeah..
It would be but it is front-wheel drive, a nightmare to maintain because of the unique engineering but above all, they build millions of them making it a useless car to collect at this point.
Last night I was searching for a review of this car. Only to find the one by Shmee150(not my favorite review by shmee. Then to wake up and on my feed see that my favorite subject from the Kingdom has posted a review 5 minutes ago... He'll yea brother!
Shmee 150 is an absolute joke. He knows zip about cars, except for spewing out random horsepower and torque figures. He's extremely egocentrical and his content is not very well produced, he focuses on quantity much more than on quality. This shows through his ratings, he'll get 200 000 views in the time that someone with actual quality content like Doug demuro gets 1 000 000. I wish people like Harry, who for me is undeniably the best car reviewer on UA-cam would get more appreciation instead of the Logan Paul style car vloggers such as shmee, Salomondrin and vehicle virgins
Really? I thought people would be gushing over the deep blue this Rolls has. I quite like it, because it gives the interior uniqueness, while staying formal. I would probably change the exterior two-tone to something more like a deep red, think Merlot, or maybe the cherry color as a throwback to their earlier models. Warm colored exteriors with cool colored interiors are my favorite!
Integral blue hide looks fantastic on a luxury car. What I don't like is two-tone leather interiors and equally those (thankfully optional) wooden slabs stuck to the front seats. One detail I dislike about RR is the fact that the steering wheel center cap is always black when you pick a coloured combo.
No mention of the Renault Velsatis at 11:52 Harry. Also, surely on a whispering luxury land yacht where no regard for kerb weight is made it should be EV? EV would be perfect here.
Crazy for anyone to spend that money on a new phantom. The 2003 Phantom looks way more solid, due to more chrome, heavier detailed styling. You can pick up a 2003 Phantom in the UK from around 75 grand. A 2003 model in the same colour would have just as much presence, if not more. Moreover they ride a lot better!
The RR Phantom is such as statement of a car. Its all elegant brutalism outside but luxury inside. I would love to be able to afford one, one day. But by the time I could afford one, I would know that the rest of my life was pretty pleasant. Harry as always is scrupialist honest and informative. Great test Harry ! Australia
You're easily one of my best motoring journalists. You put cars thru their paces and you challenge what people claim about a car The wood on that car seems a little much, a lot highlighted cuz of the blue interior. It disappears in brown and red, I think
Even though i'll never own one , to me that interior is quite tacky..the best thing is they've copied the silver Countdown souvenir clock from the tv show...
If any of you regular men and women get to experience this car in the long wheelbase version you absolutely should, I just received my 2020 phantom EWB all black interior and no two tone black exterior same wheels too, black everything including the brightwork, no privacy glass, though I did get black Mulberry Silk curtains in the rear, and no privacy suite. excellent work Rolls Royce of Stirling, Virginia thank you.
Yes... and the more I think about the Rolls, the less I grasp what you get out of your 468 k... I'd hapilly buy the Vel Satis and keep the spare change to by a nice mension. Honest personnal opinion
@@billybill6604 unfortunately for us a person who owns one of these probably has multiple mansions around the world. Its ironic that at my age 58 i could and would retire with half a million.
Great review, Harry. But, not my kind of car (esp at 468k)...too much high-cost and complicated frippery. Powered doors, tray tables and screens? The Gallery? Starlight headliner? No, thanks. The active ride control should be more proactive and controlled, too much lean in corners. And, why does BMW/Rolls insist on run-flat tires plus the extra engineering to compensate for them? Think of the replacement cost (peasant thinking, here). Really odd.... On another note: are you planning any more car or bike trips to the south of France? Those videos were incredible...
The run flat tyres are a key feature for the customer of this car. Security matters if you are paranoid and live in the USA with the gun-nuts. Or if you are a dictator in some small oil rich third world country. Flat tyres are also not going to happen so if you care about arriving in time more than you worry about being shot then all is good. Everything is a compromise, in truth these cars will be travelling at an average of 9mph if in London so there is no bottoming out of the suspension happening. Internationally we all know about the roads in the USA and how those are not going to pose a problem to it. It is designed for driving in these places plus China and the Middle East, not for narrow country roads in the shires.
I can see your points, but (suspension-wise) it ought to be more competent just in case someone in the shires buys one! Performance for this money should be above, not below other 'luxury' cars.
To me eye, they fixed the rear end design problem the standard wheelbase model had. The rear from the back of the rear doors to the bumper ends just looked wrong in the last generation. This gen fixes it quite well.
Thanks for that honest review Harry! Keep up the excellent work. About the parking cameras: They were introduced like that in the BMW 7 series (G12) in 2015.
Another excellent review and points on the ride quality of that machine were appreciated. Too easy to be enraptured by the fine touches. The star headliner isn't my preference, bit too theatrical. Hopefully they will get battery models perfected for long road trips.
I really appreciate the production of your videos, Harry. Beyond your comments, which are always interesting, the effort you put into filming your videos and putting them together is just top. I'd love to hear your thoughts on 4 person travel with performance...perhaps a bentley v maserati, v ?
I will be keeping my 1962 Silver Cloud, thank you. It is now worth twenty times what I paid for it, rides beautifully and has more power than I need. It too has self opening and closing doors, bonnet and boot, since I do it myself. I am sure the modern Rolls Royces are wonderful motorcars, but the Clouds have a style never seen before or since. My Rolls Royce was made in England by English engineers and craftsmen, not German CAD fitters and mechanics. Biased? Yes. Would I purchase a new Phantom if I could afford one? No. My Cloud does everything the new Phantom can do, but without the unnecessary James Bond gimmicks.
Characteristically honest and unsycophantic Harry review thank you. A very clever car, but more bling than imperiousness and the huge gizmo count means it won't be much fun to run reliably on a shoestring when it depreciates to the point of real world buying one affordability. Nearly as good on country roads as an ancient Shadow to boot. No sale!
Don’t you realize you are sitting in a car that was mostly built in Germany!! Engine, frame, and all metal work! This very fake car was then shipped to England to be passed off as a British built car! BMW only built factories in Germany and England to build a generic car, and paid a lot of money to put a name on it!! RIP RR 1904-1998.
e ennis only the engine and gearbox come from BMW, everything else is handcrafted in England. I have toured the factory and seen the woodwork, the aluminium being hand filed
Interesting comment about the need to constantly correct the steering. Have noticed this on supposed prestige BMWs, and also an irritating suspension jiggle on the latest S-Class Mercedes. I think some car manufacturers need to go and drive your '69 Shadow or an XJ6 to remind themselves (if it's something they've ever experienced) of the feeling of luxuriously being wafted along. I'm afraid, nothing else compares.

Oddly enough Ford and Lincoln copied RR in the 70s and 80s.
It’s a special day when harry uploads
Build quality looks superb as to be expected but it's not elegant like a Rolls should be.
You are absolutely correct. It is far from elegant.
Yes. Old front looked better and the rear is boring
If the car was a person it would be Gary Glitter.
Not elegant!? Whats elegant in your opinion?
Awesome review, had me laughing when you said "it's alright" about the ride😂👍🏼
Harry you actually look very well on that RR, keep it up! Tremendous reviews , second to none .
Harry can you please review the new rolls royce cullinan
This is why I like watching your reviews. They're sincere.
If I'm right, your old roller had Citroen hydraulic suspension. Still unbeaten for ride.
John Molloy interconnected dampers too! Like a McLaren XD
GladiusYTR and the 2cv
Finally a review of an RR with actual critique rather than constantly saying everything is amazing all the time.
I still reckon the best Rolls Royce design was the Silver Cloud of the 50's,beautiful from nose to tail.
Cheers mate!
A strange question - What are Rolls like with stone chips with that flat front end ?
Last night I was searching for a review of this car. Only to find the one by Shmee150(not my favorite review by shmee. Then to wake up and on my feed see that my favorite subject from the Kingdom has posted a review 5 minutes ago... He'll yea brother!
Come'on... ITs 2018... Don't be like that... How do you know if the reader is Brother or Sister, you genderracsit...
Doug DeMuro has done a review of this car too.
I have downloaded a youtube addon to specifically block doug de moro(n) from popping on my yt feed
Gplus sucks big nobody asked you and nobody cares
The most sensible review of this car I have watched
The finest BMW ever made ;)
Shhh… we don’t talk about that
Thanks Harry, the best review of this car I have seen.
It would be interesting to see what it’s like against a Bentley Mulsanne
Very interesting to see how it handled the undulations on the road - I’d say these are early cars and they might need a fettle to get right.
Great video for a great car. However, that interior spec is horrendous!
well I also dont like it, but I think its better than boring black.
Absolutely disgusting isn't it?! Blue...never never never blue
Fear not..... Since it's a hand-built motor car, you can pick your interior fabrics, themes and colors! 😁
Always a pleasure to watch Harry's videos - he is the model of a English Gentleman.
I much more enjoyed this review of the Phantom than the silly goose Mr. Demuro did.
Sure, but did you get a Harry score?
@@JOHN-km8dh Doug is the kind of guy to resent that.
Doug is the type of guy who would show up at party's uninvited.
No mention of the Renault Velsatis at 11:52 Harry. Also, surely on a whispering luxury land yacht where no regard for kerb weight is made it should be EV? EV would be perfect here.
It's nice enough but £468,000. That is proper madness. I wonder what the depreciation is like?
@The Open Road: 200.000 pounds off as soon as you leave the dealership with it... :D
Roll Royce.
I like how Harry has matched his outfit to the paint job of the car
A great car...but this spec and in particular the interior choice is absolutely dreadful. Each to their own I suppose.
Australia
An amazing car, incredibly expensive, while at the same time having no appeal whatsoever to me.
You're easily one of my best motoring journalists. You put cars thru their paces and you challenge what people claim about a car
The wood on that car seems a little much, a lot highlighted cuz of the blue interior. It disappears in brown and red, I think
Start of Summer is 7 weeks away ;)
I finally hear your every word, Harry :o) And nobody could have presented this car better than you! A great pleasure.Thank you.
hushness,waftiness..very British..love it
Hi Harry! Great review as ever! How does the ride comfort compare to the German luxury cars?!?
The best car on earth by a mile.
always enjoyable to watch Harry's reviews 👏
Even though i'll never own one , to me that interior is quite tacky..the best thing is they've copied the silver Countdown souvenir clock from the tv show...
love the honesty .,I could listen to your videos all day about cars
Thanks Harry.....when I win the lottery...ha ha ha
Huh
If any of you regular men and women get to experience this car in the long wheelbase version you absolutely should, I just received my 2020 phantom EWB all black interior and no two tone black exterior same wheels too, black everything including the brightwork, no privacy glass, though I did get black Mulberry Silk curtains in the rear, and no privacy suite.
excellent work Rolls Royce of Stirling, Virginia thank you.
Are you still enjoying your Phantom?
Anyone else get excited about the Renault Vel Satis at 11:51?
Yes... and the more I think about the Rolls, the less I grasp what you get out of your 468 k... I'd hapilly buy the Vel Satis and keep the spare change to by a nice mension. Honest personnal opinion
@@billybill6604
unfortunately for us a person who owns one of these probably has multiple mansions around the world. Its ironic that at my age 58 i could and would retire with half a million.
A gentleman farmer being a hooligan in a Rolls Royce Phantom, how encouth.
Brilliant review as usual
Great review, Harry. But, not my kind of car (esp at 468k)...too much high-cost and complicated frippery. Powered doors, tray tables and screens? The Gallery? Starlight headliner? No, thanks.
The active ride control should be more proactive and controlled, too much lean in corners. And, why does BMW/Rolls insist on run-flat tires plus the extra engineering to compensate for them? Think of the replacement cost (peasant thinking, here). Really odd....
On another note: are you planning any more car or bike trips to the south of France? Those videos were incredible...
Horatio Time Waster it looked terrible over those road humps and I'd much prefer a moon roof to some glittery roof.
Then RR should have a "urban shooter Spec" that customers can choose and not inflict the run-flats on all variants as standard......
Right-on. If VW can have a no-cost tire choice on a GTI (U.S. market), why can't Rolls-Royce?
Wonderful video harry, one of the few reviewers I will watch for more than 10 mins! :)
First and last time someone said Fiat 500 and Rolls Royce Phantom in the same sentence.
Fiat 500 and Rolls Royce Phantom yup
Bravo Harry, a real world review. Suprised by the 'boaty' ride at times, and the near-on half a million price tag.
Looks silly. The older RR has class and style.
Best car channel on UA-cam!!
The Phantom appears to be designed and optimized for the Chinese market.
Adam Bernard Def. Asian Market. Chinese or Arab Customers
so now it's fuck ugly :DDDDDDD
wow i am SHOCKED by the design, it looks like a chinese motor show knock-off of a RR.....
What kind of the road that will fit in this size?
Harry has unique ability to talk about a car without the snobby feeling I get when I watch Shmee. Shmee for shmug
Again, not really feeling the interior on this one. Looks very late 90s/early 00s to me, especially with that wood and leather colour.
re hash agreed
Oh my god!!! An honest journalist which actually criticize big brands and admits that there is tyre noise!
Thanks Harry!
But my gosh it's fugly!
To me eye, they fixed the rear end design problem the standard wheelbase model had. The rear from the back of the rear doors to the bumper ends just looked wrong in the last generation. This gen fixes it quite well.
"If you've got more mates you get this version"
Let me guess. The other versions sells better.
Thanks for that honest review Harry! Keep up the excellent work.
About the parking cameras: They were introduced like that in the BMW 7 series (G12) in 2015.
The Shadow for me! That BMW Royce is not for native Brits, better suited to China and Kuwait! As vulgar as Kojak wearing a curly blond wig!
Another excellent review and points on the ride quality of that machine were appreciated. Too easy to be enraptured by the fine touches. The star headliner isn't my preference, bit too theatrical. Hopefully they will get battery models perfected for long road trips.
In conclusion, run-flat tyres are still rubbish. Easy enough to replace them with proper tyres I guess.
Matthew Sharpe Yeah, but can you picture this car stranded by the side of the road with a flat tire?
I really appreciate the production of your videos, Harry. Beyond your comments, which are always interesting, the effort you put into filming your videos and putting them together is just top. I'd love to hear your thoughts on 4 person travel with performance...perhaps a bentley v maserati, v ?
only harry would rag a 500,000 rolls round county roads haha
You need to take a look at the Rolls Royce plant in England where these were made. These are not built in Germany.
e ennis only the engine and gearbox come from BMW, everything else is handcrafted in England.
Great video as always but god it’s an ugly looking car all round
Great Video with detailed information of the car. Above all, you give an honest evaluation of the cars.
