The Slash weighs over a pound more. i don't know about gearing out of the box, or the battery condition on that run, , but the Rustler should have won the speed test on the blacktop ( it did in the grass). The heavier car is going to win a tug-of-war (remember that full-size electric truck that pulled the f-150?). The Rustler has larger tires, but if you want to run it a lot on pavement, you'll wear the pins off the rear tires. I think Cloey (hope i spelled it right) made the right decision. Soon I'm going to get a Rustler. I've got the RPM wide front arms and screw kit, and the links, and if i get a Rustler or Stampede 2wd, going to do the wide mod, where i can run front wheels all the way around. Good video!
The Rustler should have won most of the competitions. It was obvious that the slash would win tug-o-war because first of all, it's bigger and has it easier and second since it's bigger, it has more weight. Also, during the jumps, whoever was driving, (no offense) was not very good because you could see that It slowed down a little and didn't get up to a good speed.
My friend got a traxxas rustler 2wd xl5 as his first hobby grade rc car for his birthday yesterday and I have the slash 2wd xl5 and he got the red rustler and I got the blue slash just like you and I can’t wait to drive with him😆 my dad might get the red slash for himself😄
i picked slash, i like the look of it, and they tend to be built in a way where accidents wouldn't damage it as much as well making it really good for bashing, not to mention height clearance, the rustler though seems better for trying to go faster and taking corners better due to its lower height and wider wheels, to each their own but i got a slash and i love it :D
I own both the ground clearance on the slash hurts it more then it helps it in grass my rustlers flat chassis slides on grass there the slash tends to get hung up bit the slash is larger and more durable
I have both in vxl . I find the slash is a bit more durable . Maybe because it is all tucked in under the body . I love both of them. and Khloe you made a great decision. Like how you had a really good reason for choosing it and not just based on that looks of the rc . Good job on the video. I liked and subscribed.
@@FatherandSonHavingFun you seem to have good content. Like the fact you involved your daughter. I wanted to do atv videos with my son . But he has no interest in that ...lol

Gr8 videos n my 11 year old daughter picked the Rustler too n it's more fun them my Slash 4x4 ultimate.. I was thinking of getting the Stampede and seen on ur other video that you all have that too n was wondering if it was as fun as the others??
LOL, watch as many videos that you can on each one and see how it will work for you as far as terrain and purpose you will use it for. Let us know what you decide on....
Slash is a great vehicle with a lot of customization options. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Thanks for watching and commenting hope you have a great day.
Thank you for this video. I just bought the first RC for my nephew. It's the Rustler 2WD, do you think it's good for an 8 year old guy? By the way, you seem to be a great dad ! :) I can't wait to see his reaction when he will unpack the gift. I told my sister that I only had a budget of 50$. I bought it online, I'm waiting to receive it. I also bought 2 batteries 2S Lipo 5800 with the charger for spare. I remember when I was young, I dreamed of having an RC car like this one. The final cost was a bit higher than my initial 50$ budget hahah
Ah man that is awesome, my daughter Khloe is 8 and she loves the Rustler. It just took a little practice for her to get use to driving it. You'll have to let us know his reaction to it. You are going to win Uncle of the year award..LOL
The Rustler performs better in grass but other than that they both meet your criteria. Both are great vehicles. Thanks for watching and commenting hope you have a great day.
That is probably the worst two to be torn between. The Rustler the best out of the box but the Slash is the most customizable anything from drag Slash to Monster Slash and everything between. Let us know which one you choose...
@@MrDrinkblood Actually ended up going with the Redcat EPX Pro for $300 on Amazon. It absolutely rips out of the box but struggles with tall grass. So far I've had to replace all 4 plastic hubs and replace some stripped gears but thats It.
@@liamnissanS2K Thank you for the reply good sir :) I just looked it up, looks like a beast. If you could go back in time, would you buy the Redcat EPX Pro again? Or would you try the Traxxas? Sorry if I am a pain, just trying to get as many opinions as possible. I always rush into buying and always regret it, so trying to be smart this time LOL. Thanks again
@@MrDrinkblood I am way more than pleased with the Redcat. It punches up atleast $100 compared to the most the competion. You have to be careful not to strip out screws on the plastic body but the build quality Is great overall. The shocks are adequate and adjustable which Is nice. Also gotta be careful not to send It full speed Into a tree because It Is seriously quick. Its tons of fun If you find some nice loose dirt to practice drifting and figure 8's. But If you are concerned with quality at all or access to a ton of aftermarket parts you can't go wrong with the Rustler though. Redcat doesn't have the same reputation as Traxxas or some of the other bigger brands but for me It has been a great experience 👍 one thing to note Is the Redcat also comes with everything you need and Traxxas often requires you to buy battery/charger. I just noticed the Arma 1/8 Typhoon Is only 318 dollars on Amazon. Honestly thats probably what I would buy If I could go back In time.
If it matters the Slash flips over easier and not as good in the grass. The Slash is a little more customizable as you could make a drag car or monster truck if you wanted to change it later on.
@@FatherandSonHavingFun I plan to use it on pavement and a grass field and the odd dirt and gravel road when camping. I was wondering how much lower the Rustler was for ground clearance and if using it on grass and gravel would be an issue compared to the higher clearance on the Slash. Durability I think is the same with both models or slightly better with the Slash.
I've never had a problem with ground clearance from the Rustler, you really can't go wrong with either one both are great vehicles. If you have the budget 4wd is a game changer...
@@FatherandSonHavingFun just placed my order for a Rustler VXL in orange and blue. Should be arriving at my LHS in about a week. Already trying to make a list of upgrades...What front bumper did you use for your 2wd? I'm trying to see if there is a better option then the RPM one.
I have the RPM bumper but wanting to get a TBR T bone racing bumper just haven't found one in black yet. Great choice in color scheme that orange and blue looks amazing...

@@FatherandSonHavingFun I have both the rustler and the slash and i love the rustler more. Handel's a lot better and is a lot better than the slash. You should get a rustler
I have the rustler, slash, and the Stampede but I don't try to influence people with my opinion. If they watch my videos it will show that the slash is more top heavy and more prone to flipping over. Sometimes people just want what they think looks the best and that's alright.
I'm on the performance side myself but looks can be a deal breaker for me. There are some body colors that really turn me off for sure. Thanks for the insight and conversation.
Well I Own a Slash xl and xl rustler but the Slash is more of a basher and the rustler is a dirt tracker. And aslo Slash is a big high to tumble wumble.
It's a tough choice but the Slash is more customizable, if you get tired of the short course style you can turn it into a dragster or monster truck. Thanks for watching and commenting hope you have a great day.
Ok but my theorie is that the person driving the rustler in the speed test was (no offense) not too great because it wiped out before it got top speed and a gps is better Edit: GPS is more accurate than the speed thing what ever it’s called because the gps is actually moving
It's great to see you two are sharing the hobby together!
