Music is the universal language, and being a music lover allows you to be open-minded enough to appreciate different genres and styles. Rap may be your first love, but you have opened your mind to experiencing stuff that is new to your ears. Appreciating and liking what you listen to broadens your knowledge.
The songs from this era are called, "The Great American Songbook." The GAS spans from about 1915-60. It's filled with standards influenced by Blues, Jazz and Soul.
Dean Martin is another crooner from that time era... I like you're nobody until somebody loves you/ Everybody loves somebody sometime/ But he had a lot of hits too those are just two of my favorite
I'm turning 60 in 14 days since i was a kid i would listen to all kind of music. And thank god I still do Rap, Big Pun 🇵🇷 R.I.P is my all time favorite rapper also listen to Bigband, Crooners like Frank and Dean Martin Bobby Darin, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby and Sammy Davis was born in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. And I even listen to Opra and Classical Music I was always make fun of. And Salsa 🇵🇷 Marc Anthony, Even today's music I listen too
This was written for him by Paul Anka who was a singer himself in the 50's. Should check ✔️ him out as well. The start of rock n roll. Frank was the leader of the Rat Pack a bunch of men who had a close net friendship Joey Bishop ( actor comedian), Dean Martin (singer, actor, had own variety show), Sammy Davis Jr (actor, singer, dancer), Peter Crawford (actor), Frank was 53 when this was released. His era of music was known as The Big Band
Bro.... i am a italian descendent and in the first time i heard that song i already felt some sort of sensation, idk maybe something in my veins, in the first moment i already loved that song.
Before there was Michael Jackson, before there was the Beatles, before there was Elvis, there was Frank Sinatra. Any Mount Rushmore you want to build to enshrine the greatest male singers in history, Frank will be an almost universal choice to be on it. He might just be the most important male singer to come along in the 20th century.
Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. were great friends of Frank Sinatra. They performed together at times and were known as “The Rat Pack”. You should check them out sometime also. Two of my favorite Sammy Davis Jr. songs are “The Candy Man” and “Mr. Bo Jangles”. A couple of good Dean Martin songs are “That’s Amore” and “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head”.
Frank Sinatra suggestions: "Fly Me To The Moon" "Strangers In The Night" "New York, New York" "That's Life" "I've Got The World On A String" Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, & Dean Martin "Together, Wherever We Go"
I have a chronic illness that will eventually take my life... I have been through it all! When I pass, one of the songs I want is "Thats Life". Perfect song for me.
@@Boatzilla2 i played that song at the beach in florida once and an elderly man with his wife walking by gave me the thumbs up. It was a machismo moment lol.
I'm an old guy who grew up listening to music like this on the radio and at home, it's such a joy to see a younger generations getting into it. Thanks.
Sweetheart , I’m 55 and when I see younger generation listening to the older music brings warmth to my heart, just shows your level of your maturity!!! You have a beautiful family!
One thing you should know about Frank is that the people playing the music behind him were always some of the most accomplished jazz musicians in the world. Some of his best work was sung with the Count Basie Orchestra, playing arrangements by the legendary (and young at the time) Quincy Jones. You should check out Frank singing "Fly Me to the Moon," "Luck Be A Lady," "That's Life" and the song that plays every night at New York Yankees baseball games, "Theme from New York New York." Frank Sinatra is a legend, and there has never been anyone bigger in music. He may have grown old and passed to the other side, but Frank remains the definition of "cool." No one has ever eclipsed him in terms of universal popularity. The fact that you're listening to him now and digging his music speaks volumes about the universal appeal of Frank Sinatra. He was just the best. And I say that knowing that he was from my PARENTS' generation, not from mine.
So glad you are reacting to music outside your box. You are great at giving your honest, fresh and straightforward opinions about music from every generation and type of artist. So enjoy listening to our reactions. Us older generations have much to learn from you,as well!
I grew up listing to him as a young boy ....... You will discover as the years go by the more this song will mean to you...... It does my heart good to see you young people enjoying this kind of music ...... Be Well My Man
Sinatra's New York, New York song is my favorite. Ok so I am from NYC but they play this song even on New Year's eve after dropping the ball. Like the anthem everyone sings along. You will probably recognize it when you hear it.
I would love to see you react to Bob Dylan - Masters of War, Positively 4th Street, Lay Lady Lay, Shelter from the Storm, Like a Rolling Stone - I could go on and on . . .
My Way was played at my grandfather's funeral. Beautiful song that you appreciate more as you get older. I'm 27 and want this played at my funeral. I was a huge rap head myself but now I listen to all kinds of music. When listening to other genres of music, even ones you think are so far away from anything resembling rap, you start to realise just how much all the genres overlap and how much rap was inspired from other genres, whether unintentionally or unintentionally.
David Bowie wrote a set of lyrics for this music that was rejected in favour of those written by Paul Anka, as heard here - Bowie was annoyed so wrote Life on Mars, which adopted the same chord set up as a kind of half parody. True facts.
For a fun take on the same song, you should check od the sex pistols (sid viscious) version of this. Yes I know many would consider it sacrilege to the original but the exact same message gets thru, just with a completely different feel
When you say this song could be used at a funeral, I know of a notable example. Alan Kulwicki was a racecar driver from Wisconsin with an engineering degree who entered NASCAR. Typically NASCAR drivers drive for a team owner, but with his engineering prowess and college education Kulwicki decided to form his own team with himself as the driver. He was an underdog for sure, but in 1992 he stunned the NASCAR world by capturing the Cup Series championship, beating out teams with far more funding and resources and becoming the first owner-driver in NASCAR’s modern era to accomplish such a feat. It’s easily the biggest championship upset in NASCAR history. But just months later, at only 38 years old, Kulwicki would perish in a plane crash. He was a fan of Sinatra and given his life story there was no more fitting final song to send him off to than “My Way”.
My beautiful dad was a fantastic singer and sung this at pubs and clubs, I was so proud of him, he was so popular, but unfortunately lost him at 58 with heart attack, dad this brings it all back, recklezz that was a lovely reaction, thank you

Frank was called "the Chairman of the Board". FYI, Frank and Elvis did a duet together! Frank sings Elvis's song, and Elvis sings a song by Frank. It's really cool. Two MAJOR ICONS together.
Frank Sinatra ….. or as most called him the Chairman of the Board …. This song has been played at most of my family members funeral…. The Rat Pack where the greatest …. Go check out their music …. Great song choice right here, and awesome to see how much you appreciate a classic song like this. This is is from before my time too, but my Dad was a fan, so I grew up listening to it and so many others. As I've grown older, so has my appreciation for songs and singers like this. Music comes in so many shapes, sounds and forms - it's a real shame that some people don't try to explore more, so good on you for always being open to giving something new a try. Peace and love from Canada!
First time comment. I appreciate your willingness to listen to many different genres of music. People who enjoy new experiences and live to learn will change the world. If you haven’t a,ready, you might want to check out Sinatra’s duet with his daughter Nancy on Something Stupid or even another of his songs One For My Baby. Good stuff.
To me, this song is a music masterpiece of what it is to be your own man. The last verse, - To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels... a song about being a strong respectable man, a desirable quality that is getting either lost, redefined or misunderstood in today's world with the younger generation as they begin to have greater influence in society.
Timeless classic. Great intro, Rico. "My Way." I saw Frank live in Yokohama when he was in his 70s. It it was a very good show. That's a cheap segue to let you know his "It Was A Very Good Year," is a great song to check out.
'That's Life' is one of those Sinatra songs, where he seemed to enjoy himself while singing it. I was fortunate to see him live one night in Ottawa, when I was about 22. He performed as a favor to Ottawa boy, Rich Little, to help raise money for the Children's Hospital. I went with both of my parents and I am so glad I did. My Way was one of my Father's favorite songs, but he loved them all. He played Frank in our house for as long as I remember. My Father is gone now, I am 65 and I have introduced this man and his voice, to my children. I was not a fan, as a teenager, but I love the guy now.

Thanks a lot. Love your commentary. Huge song! Iconic in every language. My fav (with for me goosebumps guaranteed) is the original in French by Claude François. But also like hugely Sinatra's and Nina Simones' covers and the terrible rendition by Sid Vicious. In 1968, David Bowie wrote the lyrics "Even a Fool Learns to Love", set to the music of the original 1967 French song "Comme d'habitude", composed by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Bowie's version was never released, but Paul Anka bought the rights to the original and rewrote it into "My Way". The success of Anka's version prompted Bowie to write "Life on Mars?" as a parody of Sinatra's recording. Bowie noted that Rick Wakeman "embellished the piano part" of his original melody and Mick Ronson created a fantastic string parts. The liner notes for Bowie's 1971 album "Hunky Dory "indicate that the song was "inspired by Frankie". Bowie, several times sang "My way". Here is an awesome document where David's talking about "Comme d'habitude". A delight. ua-cam.com/video/l8LUwYcku9U/v-deo.html
Great honest reaction and commentary . Watching/hearing you identify, enjoy & grow with great music of all genres is.. don’t how to explain, but you are my go to reaction channel.
Frank's singing style, particulary his phrasing was and is unique to him from his start in the big bands of the 40's and has been much studied and emulated by singers after him to this day. . In his younger years he also was the first singer to have created a a phenomenal fan base of devoted teenaged girls called the "bobby soxers" (like my Grandmother), who screamed and swooned "oh Frankie" at his early appearances. Of course his popularity grew and exceeded beyond that of a teenage idol, to becoming a legend in his own time. There was and is only a once in a lifetime phenom performers like Frank Sinatra as there is and was only one Elvis Presley, or Luciano Pavarotti. ( honorable mention) to the screaming devotees of the Beatles.
Paul Anka, a huge star in his own right, wrote this song but decided it should be released by Sinatra. Smart move, when your the writer, for there's no way Paul could have commanded as much support from the listening public as Sinatra did. The lyrics are just so perfect in describing Sinatra's extraordinary life.
Frank Sinatra is the Father of Nancy Sinatra. Elvis covered the song My Way. Please react to the Elvis versipn as well. There is also a video of Frank Sinatra and Elvis singing together a

It's fun watching you enjoy music that you are not familiar with. You're really growing, keep up the good work.
Discovering and enjoying music together is one of life's gifts
Legend
Paul Anka, a huge star in his own right, wrote this song but decided it should
be released by Sinatra. Smart move, when your the writer, for there's no way
Paul could have commanded as much support from the listening public as
Sinatra did. The lyrics are just so perfect in describing Sinatra's extraordinary
life.
Frank Sinatra is the Father of Nancy Sinatra. Elvis covered the song My Way. Please react to the Elvis versipn as well. There is also a video of Frank Sinatra and Elvis singing together a
