Bought the 2013 Avalon ,117 k on it ,zero problems ,1 battery,3 sets of tires ,change oil every 5 k , does not leak or burn oil ,and the v6 is a rocket ship ! 100% satisfied,my next truck will be a the new tundra twin turbo ,love Toyota’s 👍
Thank you, and may God’s richest blessings be on you! I’ve been watching all your YT videos for about 3 months. All your advice is spot on. I’ve owned a 2007 & currently own a 2013 Avalon; the best cars I ever owned. At 74, I’ve owned quite a few. Thanks for your superlative insight; keep up this great work!
I think Toyota found the sweet spot between soft and athletic for my 2017 Avalon Limited V6. Very smooth but you can still feel the road. Handles like a dream with plenty of passing power. I would't give it up for anything.
I own a '06 XLS and a '12 avalon Lmt....they are without a doubt the MOST Reliable Cars i have ever had. I installed stiffer struts and springs and did a cat back exhaust with hi-flows. They are still pretty quiet, fast as a cat, and still retain that comfortable ride of that generation.
Hi, would you recommend buying 06-07 avalon with 200k miles for $5k? what should one look for or pay close attention to when checking the car out? Thanks
Bought a 2014 Limited Avalon in 2020 with 86k and absolutely love it. The car is quiet, fast, and almost furious. Between Eco, and Normal, the Sport Mode does make a difference. One of the cool features besides the lumbar is the thigh support on that trim. One thing I wish was increased was the fuel tank capacity which gives your ~280 miles per trip. Second, an add-on would be to increase the size of side mirrors. Since this Toyota model is being discontinued and if you like it, I suggest going with the Lexus ES 350 (my neighbor’s choice with an additional $5k on top of it).
Around how much did you pay? I'm looking to buy a 2016 with almost 100k miles and don't know what a reasonable price would be. Much appreciated if you could tell me.
@@kolinbuckley3517 Sep 2024, we just drove one (2014) off the lot for $20,000 out the door. Had only 23k on the odometer and was in pristine condition even if en if it were only a 1 yr old car.
My mom bought a 2016 Avalon Hybrid Limited, so comfortable. All the safety tech, low miles, heated/cooled seats, sunroof, way nicer than the 2018 Prius she was going to get. I'm glad I told my mom to look at the used cars before she bought a new car. The Avalon was only a few thousand more, but such a better car.
Agree! I bought a used 2014 Avalon Hybrid, and the somewhat lower MPG compared to the Prius is actually excellent for a car that size (30-32 MPG in mixed urban driving, 42-44 MPG on the Interstate). The comfort and luxury in the Avalon is light years better than the Prius, which comes in handy on long trips. Even the 2013-15 Avalons with the stiffer suspension than the 2016 and newer models ride better than a Prius.
I had my heart set on the new Prius, I realized the price point was too high so I started looking at Camry's and for the first time to test drive the Avalon. Bar none I believe I'm making the right decision.
my 2000 Infiniti I30 died (blown head gasket) and was not worth the cost of repair/new engine. my father helped me shop new used cars, and he found an immaculate 2013 Avalon XLE, carfax shows it was serviced by dealership every single 5000 miles and it has been driven 155k miles! grabbed it for little more than 12k after title and fees blahdy blah blah, and it is such an amazing car! will be referencing this video and checking for these problems myself, im hoping this car has a very long life ahead of it :D what an upgrade!
Car Care Nut, You gave me some great suggestions a few months ago - having redone my budget with prices in the 20k now not at $15 (dreaming I guess in this market) looking at Avalons & camry hybrid: 2015 Camry Hybrid 29k miles; 2016 Avalon 59k (had P0306m P1605 at 15k & bank knock sensors damage to main engine harness); 2017 Avalon 51K; 2017 Avalon hybrid 56k; 2017 Certified Avalon 23k miles (over budget) & 2013 Lexus ES350 46k miles. Thoughts???? You're teaching me so much that I'm becoming knowledgably picky. THANKS for all that you do!
Hi! Not worried on the damage at 15k on the Avalon as it’s old damage. Now honestly this is a tough one because both those years are ones that I highly recommend. I would definitely go with the Avalon or Camry over the ES in this case as the ES is older. How’s the maintenance history on these?
Oh and they are all being shipped to CT from PA, NY and MD so it's not as if I could just look at them all because it's $200 to ship them. Except there is a Avalon hybrid with 56 miles on it coming soon to a local carmax - is that too many miles for a used hybrid? The Avalon I'm favoring because it's loaded with all the safety features and more goodies has the 59k miles - is that too much?
I have a 2011 Limited, so the prior generation. I venture to say it is better than the 13-18s for a few reasons. The interior roominess and rear legroom is better, has the reclining rear seat, larger fuel capacity (18.5 gal) and the front seats are wide and comfortable.
My father sold my son his 2015 Avalon Limited. Only 40k miles, in immaculate condition. Very nice car and so far only real issue has been the infotainment system, fixed with an update and deleting grandma's iPhone (seems to be the root cause). I'd really advise against hybrid-my wife had to trade in her 2008 Highlander when the ABS module failed-$2.5k part and no indie dealer wanted to touch the job as it ties into the high voltage system of the hybrid. The dealership was asking more than the part cost in labor. Car was already at 250k miles with a ticking hybrid main battery, but sad to trade it in as it was in amazing shape. The non-hybrid likely would have lasted at least 500k!
I just discovered your channel recently and really enjoyed your videos. They are super informative, and I learn a lot about car in general. I'm in a market for a used car, and this video gives me the confidence to pick this generation of Avalon over the competitors. Thank you for the advice, and happy holidays.
Just bought myself a 2014 avalon limited with 150k miles one owner. Solid car so far. Only thing is that rear window visor this is stuck wont go down, some kind of leak under the car straight down from brake fluid resorvior? idk what is the leak is for. Driver window struggles to go up. Was on bluetooth hooked up with my iPhone and song stopped playing. Rides and drives really good. Came from a 2015 sentra with 68k miles. WAYYY better than that sentra shifts smooth engine is quiet. Turns well, bumps on the road no rattles. Ive got the burgundy color, tan leather seats. Plenty of room in the back.
thanks 👍 just got a 13 avalon limited today! i don't even know how to use all this tech stuff! i had to google where the ebrake was! 🤦🏽♀️ i had a dodge dart for 5 years & so far that's been my fav car that i owned. let's see if toyota changes my mind! i will say the avalon definitely feels like a grandma car tho! but i do like it! grandma cars r always reliable.
I own a 2015 Avalon Limited and I would have to agree with you. I think Toyota made a mistake with the suspension on the fourth gen Avalons from 13-15 making them stiff to appeal to younger buyers. I think the third gen Avalons are the best. But I love my Avalon though.
I don't know if I can agree with the reliability of my 2015 Hybrid Limited XLE. However, I do agree it is a great car and drives nice!(original owner and I believe this is the top of the line model) But, at around 80K, hybrid battery was replaced. Today at 170K needs another battery replacement which will cost around $4700 at dealership. I guess I should be happy that I got around 90K miles on the previously replaced hybrid battery? Was expecting more miles on it... Anyways most likely I will still need to get it replaced even if I might be selling or getting rid of the car. I really want to keep this car but considering will drop it another $4k-$5k every 80K-90K miles is not very economical, and kind of defeat the purpose of a hybrid.. Not sure if you guys got higher miles from your Avalon hybrid battery but unfortunately that is the case for me...
I have the 2013 hybrid Avalon just hit 80,000 miles went to trade it in couldn't get rid of my car when comparing other vehicles sorry It was crazy and I put over 55000 miles on it and the check engine light has still to come on
Thank you for the great videos and information! One request, could you give me your thoughts on the 2022 Avalon hybrid and differences between 2018? Are any changes worth spending the extra money or waiting a few years for used prices to go down a little?
They're real close to 50% depreciation around the 3-5 year old range. Pretty crazy for a toyota. A top trim avalon is about 50% more than a base camry of the same year and the camry's only got 3 mpg on it and they're both grandpa cars honestly
Hi! Thank you for watching my channel! They’re both very similar cars with the Avalon being slightly cheaper and might feel less luxurious than the Lexus but in reality they are exactly the same car underneath.
What do you think of the latest generation of Avalons(2019-)? I bought a 2020 Hybrid limited and was hoping to get many years of trouble free miles from it.
I think they are pretty solid. Very impressive car both the way it drives and the features it has. So far they have been pretty problem free. The 2019s has some factory paint issues and issues with sticking radiator shutters but nothing so far in 2020
I have a 2014 Limited. As some of you may know 13-15 have a more sporty ride which got dialed back in the 16 MY. I read in forums that owner had replaced spring and shocks with 2016 spec parts for a softer ride. I like to have a softer ride due to road conditions and me getting old. Wonder if any one can share their knowledge on this mod and what if any other parts I should replace while at it to save future labour. TIA
I had 2016 Limited Springs and shocks installed on my 2013 Limited. No modifications are required...they fit right on. It gives just enough of a lift to fit 235/50r18 tires (CrossClimate 2). Between the softer suspension and a bit more sidewall on the tire...it makes HUGE difference.
@@hauoliakua Thank you for your opinion. CrossClimate also the tire I am considering but I am thinking go down to 17 inch rims due to the bad roads we have.
@@fredmak8670 Before I did the springs and shocks, I jumped from the stock 18 Limited rims down to 16 inch rims (off an old Lexus) for winter. When my 18 inch cross climates need to be replaced, I'm considering moving to 17 inch...but between the .5" sidewall on the 235/50r18 and the suspension replacement...I don't feel anything approaching urgency to change it. ...just know, going into any of these changes, that a LOT of tire shops and mechanics will immediately 'nope' out of there if\when they find out you're asking for "non standard" parts.
I drive like an old man that I am. Should I avoid using the ECO mode? Is using it hurting the longevity prospects of the car? It’s a 2015 Avalon XLE V6, non-hybrid.
First of all thanks for your quick reply for my earlier post. 😊 I have 2015 Avalon Ltd. bought it new and every time I leave it in garage close to two weeks the battery is dead. I have also 2015 Highlander Ltd but it never goes dead in two weeks. Dealership checked multiple times found nothing, then told me replace battery as it might have manufacturing defect but same problem with new one. Can you please guide me if there is a problem with this particular year/ model and how to fix it. ( It has 100,000+ km on it and besides this it has no other problem) Thanks
@@TheCarCareNut No its stocked. Nothing added to original setup or accessories (except wo way alarm compustar remote starter). I was fed up jump starting and losing all radio settings every time and end up buying battery trickle charger if I decide to park longer than a week. Is there a way to track battery drain somehow? Multimeter shows car drawing 250 m.amps sitting idle but that doesn't seem enough to drain fully charged battery in a week.
Hi! A flush is not a good idea on hybrids. A simple drain and fill is all they need. I would replace the coolant every 50k or 5 years. If this is a new car then the first coolant replacement is 100k or 5 years.
Hi! I think they are good cars. I haven’t really seen many issues with them. Small odds and ends usually related to the connected services but nothing major at all.
I've read many people having issues with engine stalling making it unsafe on the highways. There is a even recall on it to fix fuel pumps that can fail and cause this issue. Have you dealt with this problem?
2013 limited here. The only issue I've had in 5 years has been with the rear sunshade. It would always get stuck either up or down and keep making the broken motor noise. Just disconnect the power to the motor. The only annoying thing lol. It really is the best hidden gem on the road. Interior and tech is much better than any lexus I've seen so far.
Ironically, I had the Car Care Nut fix that issue for me. He was able to get it down completely and charge me only for one hour labor. I would have done it myself but I didn’t want to make it worse than I already was, He’s really good people!
One thing I HIGHLY RECOMMEND on 2013-2018 Avalons: Add a strut bar to the engine compartment! This tightens up the handling of this car as it hugs the road with a strut bar.
You really know your stuff. Excellent and informative videos. I like how you emphasize the realty, if not necessity of 5,000 mile oil and filter changes. Very smart and relatively inexpensive way to really add life to any car, not just Toyotas.
I really appreciate your personality and how you go about doing your videos. Straight to the point, nice voice and not over the top like many other youtubers. Thank you for your hard work. 2004 Avalon with 186k miles. I love him. We call him Grandpa
I just learned something that is important to me. The Blind Spot Monitor on my 2013 Avalon Limited stopped working about a year ago. I assumed it somehow got bumped out of alignment in the bumper which I heard could cost up to $2,000 to realign, but now I know this is a common problem and not an alignment issue. Thank you again AMD!
I'm having my first baby and decided to get a 2018 Avalon due to how comfortable, reliable and safe it is! Was going to go for a Tesla Y/X but I got such an amazing deal on this gem! Was worried about Tesla reliability. Also I was coming from another EV so I needed a V6 (used to the power/instant torque) and it's very adequate for my needs!
@@TheCarCareNut yes so smooth. Your videos was the reason I chose one...less time at the shop more time with my family 😁..keep up with the good work! I am watching your other videos on learning the features! I am still trying to figure out the remote start lol.
The problem with this car and they are almost impossible to find from private seller. Every single one of these used cars are only being sold by dealers. Frustrating.
Yep! I'm in Los Angeles and there were none for sale under 20k. I almost had to go to Phoenix. I ended up settling for a Touring but I wanted a Limited.
I like Avalon’s but I love my ls400.Over 300k miles is barely broken in.Runs so smooth and the heat coils still work on my seats. Not to mention the transmission shifts like butter in every gear. The heater and cold are better than any car I been in.The clincher is it’s a 1999 Atlantis blue mica color and the engine and body is is near mint condition.Kaizen Japan quality.❤

Just purchased a certified '18 Avalon with less than 12K on the odometer. Wonderful car with a great reputation for reliability/durability. Hope to see over 200K. Enjoy your insights about maintenance, etc.
I’m so glad you don’t yell at me like Scotty Kilmer. This video is some timely. Looking to buy a hybrid Avalon for commuting due to Covid. This is some amazing information. I’ve already watched this twice. Thank you!
I bought a Toyota Certified used 2014 Avalon Hybrid Limited. I absolutely love it! I have considered trading it in for an SUV like the Highlander or Highlander Hybrid because my needs have changed since I bought it in 2017. The thing is, after I test drive an SUV (even Toyota) and get back in my Avalon, I think to my self, "You fool! How can you even think about giving it up!" (I may well just rent an SUV the three or four times a year I really need it, or maybe even get a "beater" SUV for those occasions.) Regarding mileage, my mixed city/highway driving is around 32 MPG, quite acceptable for such a large car. In pure Interstate driving, I get 42-44 MPG, depending on how often I use Sport Mode.
Beautiful cars. I have a 2013 Avalon Hybrid Limited. I love it. The ride is a little harsh but its ultra reliable, great gas mileage, & is very stylish
Got a used 2013 touring Avalon. Just had to replace armrest and door handle "leather". Common problem, looks great now $275 repair. Worth it. I love my Avalon.
I have a 2018 Avalon hybrid XLE and it’s a GREAT vehicle. Two complaints however: no Apple CarPlay and man I wish it was AWD. But other than that, I really enjoy it.
My 2014 has had several problems. The back of the seat did come off, the armrest on console and driver door wore out. The gas tank had to be changed (at my expense). Generally speaking, it’s a very comfortable, low noise, fast accelerating and reliable car. Thank you.
I think its more of driving more and beating on it more. My 2013 with 100k + is in perfect shape with minor chips and scratches as expected on an 8 year old car
@@verynick Not if that's a 2015 your neighbor is trying to sell! I did a quick check on Kelley Blue Book, and if it's the 2015 XLE Touring SE model (the most expensive trim level that year), their private party sale range in my area (Portlandia) is between $14,400 to $16,900 in Good condition, less for other trims. I looked on CarGurus and did a nationwide search on 2015 models with less than 60,000 miles, and based on their analysis of asking prices they seem to value an Avalon with that kind of mileage around $20,000. What year and trim is your neighbor's Avalon, and what part of the country is that in?
BTW, you also discussed a pet peeve of mine that is a general car issue and not specific to the Avalon or even Toyota. If it was up to me, I would not buy a car with a moonroof. It's one more thing that can break down, potentially expensive to repair, and prone to leaking from the gasket/seal around the glass. Unfortunately, it's not an option because it's generally part of a package; if you want the heated/cooled seats or other goodies, you have to take the moonroof (that goes with a lot of manufacturers, not just Toyota).
I wish sunroofs were an option you can choose to remove with any trim. I am not a big fan of them either.

I just had my transmission replaced 2014 Toyota Avalon at 99k miles. I'm suspicious about, but I'm in Afghanistan on tour of duty and my cousin has possession of it.
Hey there! I love your channel. Great job. Curious, I have a 2014 Limited Avalon which I love. However, I am beyond enamored with the 2019 to 2022 Touring and XSE versions. I was wondering what your opinion was of the newer, and sadly final, version of the great Avalon. Thanks!
I’m in the same boat, I’m looking at the newer touring models, but unfortunately my budget is only going to allow me a 2016 limited. Unless I find one closer to $20k in the next week.
The fuel door on my Avalon if you wash your car and it's below 32° the door will not open sometimes because the tab that holds the door closed is Frozen and reaching in the trunk to release it will not work in some cases so I poured some hot water in the crease of the door and that usually released it
I bought a 2016 Avalon XLE from a medical courier with 265k. He highway miled the hell out of this car. Checked his maintenance records and he kept up with the record. I’ve had it for 5k miles. Got my first oil change and tire rotation a few days ago. Shifts smoothly and it’s a fast car for its size.
great vids keep them coming,,i have seen used avalons 99-03 for 1000-1500$,online,everything works, good driver,100K-150K, its all i can afford right now,,should be a good car???? will it go another 100K??
I purchased an 03 with 90k miles almost 3 years ago now have 130k and have only had to replace a few bearings, tie rods, radiator, idle air control valve, belts and a few door handles interior & exterior. Paint sucks but runs good
My first Avalon, a 2006 XLS was THE dream car. My current 2013 Avalon XLE is ok, but the leather is GARBAGE. I'm 70 so not real hard on any part of the car, still the seats are worn out and the drivers armrest is bare (as in worn out down to the fabric. I am so disappointed in Toyota that I'm done.
It’s pretty good. Put 36k miles on it. Only problems is the intermediate steering shaft started making a rattling noise at about 95k ish miles which is benign but annoying. I think it happens with this model because it’s a rougher ride than pre 2013 and the insulation on the shaft might wear out prematurely. You can research what I’m talking about. Other problem is it’s a rougher ride than I’d like. If I were to pick again, I’d probably ride the 2013 Lexus ES 350 and see if it’s smoother. Or find another Lexus sedan.
Great info and I agree, excellent car. Leased a 2013 XLE Touring in Nov of that year thinking that I was done working overseas after 6 years. Wanted low payments as no job. Went back overseas May of 2014, early return wasn't worth it even with less than 4,000 miles on it. Bought the car at the end of the lease with around 10k miles. 6 years overseas again, car now has 17,781 on the clock. Was thinking about selling for a new Highlander, trade in not worth getting rid of. Radio is my only issue which is why I'm on UA-cam looking for info. Maybe I'll take it in for radio updates and be done with the problem. Not sure if newer NAV units from Pioneer, Alpine etc are available or worth the bucks. Apple Car Play would be nice. Anyway, thanks so much for the video!

As I mentioned before in an other comment section... I have a 13 Toyota Avalon Limited hybrid with 80,000 miles... Now I knew before I purchase it used with 50000 miles the ride was a little harsh... But after about 10000 miles of driving on rough roads and Bridge Expansion Joints the ride really got on my nerves so I went to the dealership and swapped out struts and springs for a 16 model year for a smoother ride... it was roughly $1,800 parts and labor... in my opinion it was worth the investment considering I'm keeping the car or at least another five years
I haven't done this yet with my 2014 Avalon Hybrid Limited, but I subscribe to a Toyota Avalon users forum, and quite a few of the participants on the forum have replaced some of the suspension parts on their 2013-15 models with 2016-18 parts. Most if not all of the parts are exact fit and require no modification. It's certainly cheaper than trading or selling it to get a 2016-18 model, especially if you love the car otherwise and don't want an extended car payment.

That’s not too many miles.
I have a 2014 limited, it’s fantastic
Still going strong with the Avalon?
@coreclan02 No, I traded it in on a new Lexus. But I'm sure it's still going
I have a 2011 Limited, so the prior generation. I venture to say it is better than the 13-18s for a few reasons. The interior roominess and rear legroom is better, has the reclining rear seat, larger fuel capacity (18.5 gal) and the front seats are wide and comfortable.
I'm looking at buying a 2011. How has it held up?
Thank you for this awesome video! It was a huge help to me as I shopped for a pre-owned Toyota. I ended up getting a 2017 Avalon XLE premium.
Thank the lord I have a 2016 Touring. I’m always unsure if I should keep it or get something newer. Guess I’m keeping it. Low miles and no problems
Thank you for your detail way to explain everything about the car. I just bought 2015 Avalon XLE and enjoyed your output
Just bought one (2016) with 60k miles, the car is awesome!!
my 99 avalon has a sunroof, and it still works perfectly! But, i do lubricate it twice a year!

Just bought a 2013, love your videos and this review makes me excited we grabbed it
How’s it running now? How many miles on it? How much you buy it for? I’m looking at getting a 2015 for 13k with 113 miles on it
Just bought myself a 2014 avalon limited with 150k miles one owner.
Thanks for this video. I have a 2016 Avalon. I love it.
It is a sporty enough for me. It just works.
Great advice since I am going to sell my 2006 LS430 and buy a late model Avalon Limited Hybrid.
thanks 👍 just got a 13 avalon limited today! i don't even know how to use all this tech stuff! i had to google where the ebrake was! 🤦🏽♀️ i had a dodge dart for 5 years & so far that's been my fav car that i owned. let's see if toyota changes my mind! i will say the avalon definitely feels like a grandma car tho! but i do like it! grandma cars r always reliable.
Do you have a video for hybrid battery fan filter ? In 2018 Avalon limited?
Thanks for tip in the market for one.
Toyota Avalon is so reliable
I still like the 2012 and below generation better.
Me too.Better looking to my eyes
@@emeyer6963 the 2012 looks more sophisticated than 2013.
I have the 2013 hybrid Avalon just hit 80,000 miles went to trade it in couldn't get rid of my car when comparing other vehicles sorry It was crazy and I put over 55000 miles on it and the check engine light has still to come on
You're the best!
How easy are these to work on yourself?
Do you have videos on the previous generation? I miss my 03 and 01 LS430 but I'm looking for a 2011 Avalon to replace it
Thank you for the great videos and information! One request, could you give me your thoughts on the 2022 Avalon hybrid and differences between 2018? Are any changes worth spending the extra money or waiting a few years for used prices to go down a little?
Thanks so very much for this information
After a month with our 2015 the P014E code came up
I would erase it and see if it comes back before looking into it
Hi, Great Video.. one thing you didn't mention is the VVTi supply line problems. What are your thoughts on this.
Hi! The 2013-2018 Avalon doesn’t have issues with VVTi hoses as they are all solid metal lines in this generation
They're real close to 50% depreciation around the 3-5 year old range. Pretty crazy for a toyota.
A top trim avalon is about 50% more than a base camry of the same year and the camry's only got 3 mpg on it and they're both grandpa cars honestly
I’m very sad because they stop making it it’s the best car ever
I like your channel thanks for your advices !! Which one would you go for ? Toyota Avalon Hybrid or Lexus ES300 Hybrid ?
Hi! Thank you for watching my channel! They’re both very similar cars with the Avalon being slightly cheaper and might feel less luxurious than the Lexus but in reality they are exactly the same car underneath.
@@TheCarCareNut thank you !!! Looking forward for your next episodes 😏
Very helpful and informative.
How about 2019 thru 2022? Are they less reliable?
Transmission on mine feels so bad i had dealer flush the fluid and reset tcm but it still shifts harsh and has annoying early upshifting problems
I had a problem with 2018 Avalon, metal knocking sound when driving on bumpy roads (changed steering column by warranty).
What do you think of the latest generation of Avalons(2019-)? I bought a 2020 Hybrid limited and was hoping to get many years of trouble free miles from it.
I think they are pretty solid. Very impressive car both the way it drives and the features it has. So far they have been pretty problem free. The 2019s has some factory paint issues and issues with sticking radiator shutters but nothing so far in 2020
Which car would you rather own, in terms of reliability, Camry or Avalon (2017 model year)
In terms of reliability they’re pretty equal honestly. Personally I’d go with the Avalon as it drives nicer and has more room.
Your videos rock.
When my 18 inch cross climates need to be replaced, I'm considering moving to 17 inch...but between the .5" sidewall on the 235/50r18 and the suspension replacement...I don't feel anything approaching urgency to change it.
...just know, going into any of these changes, that a LOT of tire shops and mechanics will immediately 'nope' out of there if\when they find out you're asking for "non standard" parts.
thanks you are excellent
Now I am torn between this and the Infiniti Q50.
You can’t go wrong with the Avalon. The q50 might drive nicer but the Avalon is a lot more reliable.
Thanks for the video. How similar is the Avalon to the Lexus ES350?
Thank you! They’re identical and built on the same platform with the same powertrain.
I drive like an old man that I am. Should I avoid using the ECO mode? Is using it hurting the longevity prospects of the car? It’s a 2015 Avalon XLE V6, non-hybrid.
First of all thanks for your quick reply for my earlier post. 😊
I have 2015 Avalon Ltd. bought it new and every time I leave it in garage close to two weeks the battery is dead. I have also 2015 Highlander Ltd but it never goes dead in two weeks. Dealership checked multiple times found nothing, then told me replace battery as it might have manufacturing defect but same problem with new one. Can you please guide me if there is a problem with this particular year/ model and how to fix it. ( It has 100,000+ km on it and besides this it has no other problem)
Thanks
Hi! I don’t know of any problems with the Avalon with battery drains. Anything aftermarket installed?
@@TheCarCareNut No its stocked. Nothing added to original setup or accessories (except wo way alarm compustar remote starter). I was fed up jump starting and losing all radio settings every time and end up buying battery trickle charger if I decide to park longer than a week. Is there a way to track battery drain somehow? Multimeter shows car drawing 250 m.amps sitting idle but that doesn't seem enough to drain fully charged battery in a week.
250mA is high. Something is draining that battery. It would need diagnosis to track down the cause.
The memory reset you talked about, if one experienced this in a 2009 Toyota corolla, could that be done to it also?
Hi! It can be reset on a 2009 corolla as well
When do you recommend a coolant flush for the engine and hybrid battery on the Avalon hybrid version?
Hi! A flush is not a good idea on hybrids. A simple drain and fill is all they need. I would replace the coolant every 50k or 5 years. If this is a new car then the first coolant replacement is 100k or 5 years.
I'm thinking about buying a 2019-2021 Toyota Avalon hybrid. Is there anything I should look out for as common issues?
Hi! They hardly have any issues honestly. Just if buying used make sure it has good service history
What are your thoughts on the 2019-2020 Avalon all models? Are they good to buy used, and what are the common issues that you've seen?
I haven’t seen one with a stalling condition but if it’s involved in the fuel pump recall that is one of the symptoms and the recall fixes that.
Thx!!
We have a 2016 Avalon with 35k miles on it, and now it is about 7 years old. So, should we have the transmission fluid flushed?
Kinda sounds like Adam Sandler. Wish he would say…. “Well whoopidy doooooo!”
Same here, my sunshade randomly goes up and down when I start it.
Ironically, I had the Car Care Nut fix that issue for me. He was able to get it down completely and charge me only for one hour labor. I would have done it myself but I didn’t want to make it worse than I already was, He’s really good people!
My 2013 XLE touring just hit 200k miles! 💪💪💪💪💪💪
how’s it been for maintenance?
Any problems?
@@IAmBigKes I replaced the alternator about 3 weeks ago. Other than that it's been great.
@@DIRTY_SOUTH I heard the 2013 models had a stiff ride.
👍👍👍
One thing I HIGHLY RECOMMEND on 2013-2018 Avalons: Add a strut bar to the engine compartment! This tightens up the handling of this car as it hugs the road with a strut bar.
Do you have a link to one that you used? Cost?
I haven't found one yet.
What’s a strut bar..?
Great tip. I’ll have to test that out.
By they way, I thing your videos are very informative. You get into details that other youtubers do not. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Yup he's a Toyota Master Technician. I wish he was closer to NY. I would come to him everytime if he will take me =D
Currently experiencing the same. Did you ever get it fixed please?
Do you have a video like this for 2005 to 2012 year models?
I'm having my first baby and decided to get a 2018 Avalon due to how comfortable, reliable and safe it is! Was going to go for a Tesla Y/X but I got such an amazing deal on this gem! Was worried about Tesla reliability. Also I was coming from another EV so I needed a V6 (used to the power/instant torque) and it's very adequate for my needs!
You can’t go wrong with the 2018 Avalon. I very rarely see them in the shop for anything other than maintenance.

In pure Interstate driving, I get 42-44 MPG, depending on how often I use Sport Mode.
lol so true. There was a coment "if I listen to Scotty, I`ll end up buying a horse" haahahahahah

Got a used 2013 touring Avalon. Just had to replace armrest and door handle "leather". Common problem, looks great now $275 repair. Worth it. I love my Avalon.
Nice...where did you get that repaired? Dealership?
Same here with the drivers side door and the armrest---poor quality materials from the factory.
The seat back was a free recall
Just got a 2014 Hybrid, got the same issue with the arm rest
Just bought my 2015 limited yesterday. Love it!
How do you like it? I bought mine 6 months ago, and I'm loving it too
How much did you get yours? My neighbor is selling theirs for $25k with 50k miles. Not sure if that’s a good deal

I’ve had my 2013 Avelon for 7 years what a great car .
Toyota baby...
The fuel door on my Avalon if you wash your car and it's below 32° the door will not open sometimes because the tab that holds the door closed is Frozen and reaching in the trunk to release it will not work in some cases so I poured some hot water in the crease of the door and that usually released it
Hi Ron,
Spray silicone on a rag and wipe it on all the rubber surfaces around the doors, and trunk lid. This will stop it from freezing shut.
If you don’t mind: How much did you pay?

Hope you didn’t pay much. It’s crazy to buy a car with that many miles. I don’t care how good it was taken care of.

I bought my 2013 Avalon a year ago and it was previously a leased vehicle. It seems like a great vehicle so far. No mechanical issues.
How is it now? Please update
Am thinking of buying one too
2013
It’s pretty good. Put 36k miles on it. Only problems is the intermediate steering shaft started making a rattling noise at about 95k ish miles which is benign but annoying. I think it happens with this model because it’s a rougher ride than pre 2013 and the insulation on the shaft might wear out prematurely. You can research what I’m talking about. Other problem is it’s a rougher ride than I’d like.
If I were to pick again, I’d probably ride the 2013 Lexus ES 350 and see if it’s smoother. Or find another Lexus sedan.
What about the 2011-12 Avalons? Are they not as reliable as the 2013-2018?
I’m currently looking at the 2013 model ! What’s the problem with the radios?

As I mentioned before in an other comment section... I have a 13 Toyota Avalon Limited hybrid with 80,000 miles... Now I knew before I purchase it used with 50000 miles the ride was a little harsh... But after about 10000 miles of driving on rough roads and Bridge Expansion Joints the ride really got on my nerves so I went to the dealership and swapped out struts and springs for a 16 model year for a smoother ride... it was roughly $1,800 parts and labor... in my opinion it was worth the investment considering I'm keeping the car or at least another five years
I agree with this being a worthy investment! The difference is big and noticeable when you drive a 13-15 and 16+
I haven't done this yet with my 2014 Avalon Hybrid Limited, but I subscribe to a Toyota Avalon users forum, and quite a few of the participants on the forum have replaced some of the suspension parts on their 2013-15 models with 2016-18 parts. Most if not all of the parts are exact fit and require no modification. It's certainly cheaper than trading or selling it to get a 2016-18 model, especially if you love the car otherwise and don't want an extended car payment.
@@JBM425 if you have or have not changed suspensions from 14 to 16 model... the suspension is still a little firm but not as harsh... It's not like a Buick floaty suspension like 10 to 12 Avalon
