I can almost hear Max talking to his kids about growing up in the kitchen and the smell of apples being cooked down, or bread being made. You're building fantastic memories for him that will be invaluable to him throughout his life.
Hi Karen 💞 Thank you so much for letting us know that, it means a lot to us to know our content is helpful for others :) Hope you are having a nice Sunday xx
I'm a long-time viewer, but I never comment on this thing bc my English is not perfect, but, seeing Dana doing her apple sauce reminds me of the time you guys were living in Berlin, in that cozy apartment doing your cooking videos with those out-of-the-park shots (as usual) and now you guys are here, with your new family, Little Max joining his mama on the kitchen and Freja protecting her family. It's just really inspiring to me how you guys keep investing your time and energy in doing what you love! Seeing all the journeys, adventures and growth are so amazing. I love you and admire you guys.
Needed to hear that message from you today Dana!! I've been in that exact mind space and it's a tough one to navigate. Knowing that you're not alone in those feelings, and that we're all out here making small steps towards big futures, makes those small personal struggles feel even smaller (and more capable of tackling). Thank you for sharing all the parts of your process with all of us. It's entertaining and inspiring, and it keeps us witnesses coming back for more and adoring your family along the way! Much love to you all, stay safe and warm out there 😊💚
This message 💞 Thank you so much for taking the time to write such sweet words, noman'sland! I am really glad the video was helpful for you today :) Wishing you a beautiful week ahead!
Oh Dana, you speak directly to my soul with those wise words. I feel like I knew it already, but I forget again and again. Thanks for reminding me today! Life is now, I don`t want to wait for something that might not happen.
"I feel like I knew it already, but I forget again and again" -- this is so true for me, too! Really happy that my mentioning it was helpful for you :) Hope you have a really nice week ahead, Marleen 💞
Thank you for talking about the way that we tell ourselves we can’t do things at all because it won’t happen in the “perfect way” we imagine. I have thought about this a lot lately and I’m trying to get over that hump and do more things I want to do!
Thank you for the reminder to not wait until "the right time" to do fun and important things! I let my perfectionism take over too often, and that delays many projects. I will try to remember your applesauce as a great visual aid! BTW, I have loved your channel for years! It's so calm and inspiring!
Yes! I have definitely changed to the thought process of Do what you can where you are now. I learned to can this year from my small garden and local produce. Definitely have a goal of land someday with a big garden, but I am happy to do what I can now.
I love that you just so naturally said you were getting your other kiddo from the car when talking with Freja 😄. It's beautiful to see how you all work together as a family unit, how you've transitioned to parenthood with Max, and still maintain your passions. I'm working on getting over that "waiting for the perfect moment" mindset. Your words, and similar dialogue from Jonathan Yentch, make sense. There's no time like the present.
Dana, I make applesauce every year of the apples from our tree. I used to peel my apples, but I discovered over the years that you can actually leave the peels on. This retains so many of the good nutrients found in the peels. Cook on low for several hours or overnight. Then blend. You'll end up with applesauce a lovely shade of pink to burgundy depending upon the type of apples you use
I know exactly what you mean about waiting for the right time. I've always wanted to do van life but no funds. So I now car camp where I can! It's wonderful that you are building your dreams, thanks for sharing your beautiful story with us x
That is wonderful! My husband and I want to do van life too and it took us 5 years to get the funds and we finally have it now. I wish we would've done more of what you're doing in between. Although we did spend a lot of time in nature and our mindset towards life has totally changed. Now we have the funds but we still have to clear out our apartment and find the right van and build the beginnings of an interior. We really need to push ourselves aside from everything else that we have going on in life. But as soon as we have insulation, electricity and a bed we plan to move in. We don't need anything fancy. I can really recommend starting to live life like you would in your van dream life. And I believe you will get there! The financial part is just one part of it. Although I know it can feel like it's everything.
Wow, autumn is so pretty up there, thanks for the drone shot to capture it. This video was just what I needed today, similar to others I often push off doing things until things are perfect, but life is short and just feel like we need to live for the moment. Your videos always strike a cord with me, thank you!!!!!
Even though it was a rainy day you made it so heartwarming! I love to watch your channel - it always makes me wonder of the many paths that I could take in my life... I follow you with my heart! Thank you 💘
I made apple sauce recently in a pressure cooker and it CHANGED MY LIFE. Idon’t think I’m ever buying store bought apple sauce again. I have dreams of having a tiny house and living on the earth, but for nowwww I gotta do what’s feasible! I can still live off the land and teach women how to heal their bodies even if I’m still living at my parents house to get things going. Also, chunky apple sauce is IT! So happy for your revelation, Dana🥰🥰🥰
Doing the things you want and finding the now! I have been really bad for NOT doing things before work or before bed because there wasn't enough time (or so I thought) for so long, this resonates with me. Finding the now! One of the first steps in experiencing the life you want/were meant to live. Thank-you for helping make this clear 😊
Mucho respect for you for not showing your sons face. Yet I’m desperate to see all that cuteness! There was never any doubt that you’d both be great parents. Take good care
Whoo! I'm so excited for your container home! That's my dream too, hopefully in the next year or two. Love your 'rant' Dayna, now is the only thing we have, so what you love 🙏
You had asked for sites to watch on gardening. Probably Fairly Local Family has all ready been suggested amber is an amazing gardener who’s doing it her way. ♥️ your videos!
I have always wanted to build a container home, so I’ll be living vicariously through your little family (and taking good notes). Thank you for such wholesome, soul-refilling content each week. I can’t tell you how much it blesses me (and countless others).

So excited to see the container build! I imagine it will be slow going since you’re starting in winter? It would be so exciting to see it done by spring or summer. Wahoo!! 💗💗💗
Yay, so happy to hear you are as excited as we are!! Indeed, it will probably go slow but hopefully steady :) Thanks for stopping by, and hope you are having a beautiful Sunday 💞
love the fall vibes in this video! I also definitely relate to what you're saying dana, of putting things off to wait for the 'perfect' moment, but you're so right that things don't have to all be perfectly aligned the way you want them to be in order to start the projects you want to start. also btw I respect you guys SO MUCH for blurring/not showing Max's face so that he has privacy, such good parents❤

It is hard to get out of the waiting mindset, and to just do... I find myself waiting for the right time to accomplish something, when if you just start, regardless of where or what you think it should be, you'll end up happy with what was done.... Applesauce looks delightful😊 Can't wait to see your container house come together!
Oh dear, how precious! In the nick of time ❣️ the rain sounds so soothing, and those trees... I think I could watch a video with just the trees at the beginning and at the end, for hours... Ever thought of doing asmr? 😍😅 Dana, your joy is infectious, love the apple sauce theory 🙌🌟
Ha that is such a nice thing to say, I will definitely tell Lou you think it could be worthy of asmr! It really is calming out here (but cold too, ha!) Thank you for the kind words 💞
Good for you on putting up applesauce. If you have any orchards near you can also buy fruit to put up as well.. I planted some pear trees two years ago and I got a good harvest this year. Not enough to can pears but to make some Pear Butter I will be going to a orchard or the farmers market to get a box of pears to can.
I absolutely have the same illusions. I've spent a lifetime doing that. Don't get me wrong, I've done a LOT in my life, but there are many things I've also put off for the perfect time.
As I see it you are living large! Always look forward to your videos. I honestly don't think you could have picked a more perfect place than the Adirondacks! Look forward to your next installment of your journey, stay well. ✌️🙏
It really is so lovely up here in this nature :) Thank you so much for the sweet message, and thanks for spending time with us here on the channel! Big hugs 💞
Have you heard of a Foley mill? It is manual and you don’t even have to remove the skins or seeds. That way you get all the nutrients from the whole apple. You can use it with other produce like tomatoes.
I usually don't peel my apples for applesauce, but I DO chunk them up and make sure the seeds don't go in because there's a ridiculously small amount of arsenic in the seeds and I just don't like to include it. When the apples have cooked I use the old-fashioned colander/strainer on a stand with a wooden pestle. It makes very smooth applesauce. Of course, if you like it a little chunkier ... you do have to peel the apples rather than have to pick the skins out after you cook them. My last batch I had some wild blackberries we'd picked along our road and added those ... with some cinnamon, nutmeg and some sugar ... delicious.
I have loved so much watching the life y'all are building together, but I wanted to especially comment on the "making excuses because it's not the right environment" thing as I find myself doing that all the time with homesteading type things (like learning how to use a sewing machine to make my own clothes, learning how can things etc), when in reality (as you said) if I get started on building those skills now they can only continue to grow when the pieces are also in place!
I really and truly love and appreciate your videos and sharing of your lives ❤️😊😌 sending the truest best of wishes. Hoping you know if anything is weighing heavy that it will be ok
It would really be best to take the tent cover off and if needed tarp things that need to be protected from the weather if they are going to stay there. it can be a lot of work to constantly be pushing snow off the roof of a tent, especially if there is melting and icing in layers (as in common in upper NY) and the weight can destroy the expensive cover in a single storm. When the bad weather happens there is anyway a lot of work to be done to keep the driveway open and other tasks, so having to clear a tent roof on a frequent basis is quite a burden. I have only had smaller fabric shelters of the portable garage size and I can report that even though I had a much smaller property (1/2 acre) the snow managed to destroy 2 different covers when it got away from me when a big storm came through and I was at work all day for example. Especially if you have not done any other protective measures for items in the tent and are relying on that cover to protect things, you can then get a lot of secondary collateral damage on top of ruining the main cover. Just take it down, dry it well and put it away for next spring when it will still be perfect and give you years of service.
You don't have to blend apple sauce. You just cook longer and stir, leave the peels on for pink. I've got 500 apples. You were speaking to me with that nudge that I don't need to remodel the house and clean and fix everything for years before being an artist. I can do it in a minute.
Wahoo! Another adventure ahead!! Have you looked at BOXABL homes?? Would the total cost of fixing shipping containers be less than $50k for each BOXABLE, with EVERYTHING in it? (including full sized appliances!)
My excuse for not doing what I want to be doing is that there are other, more important things to spend my time on. Then life moves and months or years pass and I didn't do what I really wanted. I try to make time for those things more these days. Life it too short.
I think in life when you look at what is most important you realize family comes first. Being close to family as they start their own was more important than living in Hawaii
Thanks everyone, I went back and got caught up with everything I missed. I did not know the house was a rental. Everything makes sense now. I hope you guys do grow your own food, from one vegan to another. I think a podcast episode with the Shure sm7b mics would be so cool. Just to hear you guys talk about everything you’ve learned would be incredible for the vegan community and people who want to learn how to grow their own food and travel and do construction and raise a baby on a vegan diet, etc.
Nadeshda, please educate yourself on communicating more respectfully. Your question is crass and disrespectful. I doubt you meant to be so rude. Choose your words with more intention.
I can almost hear Max talking to his kids about growing up in the kitchen and the smell of apples being cooked down, or bread being made. You're building fantastic memories for him that will be invaluable to him throughout his life.

What kind of comfort, and what do they mean to you?
Hi Karen 💞 Thank you so much for letting us know that, it means a lot to us to know our content is helpful for others :) Hope you are having a nice Sunday xx

You can use an air compressor to blow air through the water lines to clear them out - it can be super tricky to get the gravity drain perfect.

Yesss, such familiar thoughts about the applesaucephilosophy. I was soooo happy you identified and gave a name to that whole process. Very recognizable indeed. I just only started adressing that and changed careers totally, went back to school to follow my path. My kid was very happy, most friends are encouraging ( that is why they are your friends ;) ) and I leave the others to it.
For years I have been wanting to spend the holidays away and once again waited for others to conform to their plans. Then I heard myself announce I was going away and inviting those who wanted to come with me.

As an extra precaution for the mice, Irish Sping soap keeps them away! When we winterize our cars we put Irish Spring throughout the car and it keeps the mice from nesting and potentially damaging anything!
No way! What a fantastic tip, thanks for letting us know! Who would've thought... :)
@@WildWeRoam uhhhhh, it DOESN'T always!!! I am a member of the vintage travel trailer enthusiast community and that is a highly disputed method.
Basically, results run the gamut ... some people put Irish Spring in their trailers when they store them and no critters come in at all ... others do it and post pictures of the Irish Spring soap with little mouse nibbles all around it.
People also recommend "Fresh Cab," a "natural" deterrent (very mixed results), fabric softener sheets (a lot of times the mice just seem to use them as bedding) or using peppermint (soaking cotton balls in peppermint oil really does seem to deter the little jerks!). What really worked for ME was to use tulle and make little mothball "sachets" that seemed to make my trailer inhospitable to mice. I put a sachet on each tire (4 of them - I have a 1967 Streamline Prince), on the tongue of the trailer and anywhere the mice could gain access. Of course, this was all on the outside of the trailer as you probably don't want to use mothballs inside!

I total agree with you on the here and now.live your truth
Love the word you gave about acting in the moment!
Beautiful experiences enjoy!!
Glad to hear you will be building a shipping container home!!!😊
Thank you, we are so excited to share our progress on it :) Thank you for stopping by and sharing your excitement, Kathleen :)
I really and truly love and appreciate your videos and sharing of your lives ❤️😊😌 sending the truest best of wishes. Hoping you know if anything is weighing heavy that it will be ok
Wow! The fall colors are beautiful.😍
You can't deny the apple recipes during apple picking season!!

Yup nothing happens in a straight line. Time is like a pretzel. Let go and do what you want and can do now :)
Your voice and the smile ❤️❤️
My procrastination voice in my head is deafening. You reminded me not to wait because all we have is now anyway. We can’t “do things” in the future.
You don't have to blend apple sauce. You just cook longer and stir, leave the peels on for pink. I've got 500 apples. You were speaking to me with that nudge that I don't need to remodel the house and clean and fix everything for years before being an artist. I can do it in a minute.
Love the intro guys! Everything looking great!
Wahoo! Another adventure ahead!! Have you looked at BOXABL homes?? Would the total cost of fixing shipping containers be less than $50k for each BOXABLE, with EVERYTHING in it? (including full sized appliances!)
Love your place!
Where are you planning on staying during the winter?
What would it take to live in the tent year-round?
Did I miss an episode? Nonetheless I’m excited to see the container build!
Y’all are nuts.
What are you gonna do with the wall tent once your in ur shipping containers, make it a airbnb?
love your videos
I just use a potato masher to make it smooth. No need to mess up the blender ;)
I just moved to RI, I see why you guys wanted to travel a lot. 😳
On your bag Fishkill, NY ?
💚💙💜
you guys are so damn cute and such an inspiration!
Aw Regina, thank you :) Hope you are having a nice Sunday!!
Yay! X
Where are you both from ?
Are you two living in the other home on your property and using the the wall tent for videos? Or are you two full time living out of the wall tent?
Why would they drain all the water and remove everything from the wall tent in this episode if they were living in it full time. THEY AREN'T.
@@earthangel8730 have you ever considered the fact that I've just dumb, you don't have to be rude about it
What's up with the babies chains? on the legs i mean lol
So where are you living now??

My excuse for not doing what I want to be doing is that there are other, more important things to spend my time on. Then life moves and months or years pass and I didn't do what I really wanted. I try to make time for those things more these days. Life it too short.
I thought the house in Hawaii was great. I feel like I missed something. Someone fill me in. What was wrong with the house in Hawaii with the porch?
I think in life when you look at what is most important you realize family comes first. Being close to family as they start their own was more important than living in Hawaii
@@babs9495 yes and it also was a rental. Their dream has always been to own land and build something for themselves since they quit sailing.
Yay, I'm early 😍
Thanks for stopping by, Denine 💞
Whats with Max's feet?
He has what's called club foot and had to have surgery to fix it :)
Nadeshda, please educate yourself on communicating more respectfully. Your question is crass and disrespectful. I doubt you meant to be so rude. Choose your words with more intention.
A yurt would have been warmer and more permanent. You will freeze in winter. I hope you are all ok.
They won't be living in the wall tent during Winter.
@@earthangel8730 Well thank goodness for that. I hope they can make a more permanant structure in the near future.
Wait. What? You're proposing to build in a place that has no source of water? How's that going to work?
