Preparing the OFF GRID Cabin for WINTER | a Full Day VLOG

- Every year in early December we make a trip to our Off Grid Cabin, to get everything ready for winter. During this trip, we'll work on clearing many of the leaves, stock up the firewood bins, and bring home all the canned goods so they don't freeze over the winter. Some other things we do to winterize that wasn't shown in the video, is that we pour some RV antifreeze down the kitchen sink to fill the trap, and run some of the same fluid into the pump for the shower. We'll also cook up a wonderful rib-eye steak on the grill, and build a custom shower curtain rod out of black plumping pipes.

I have been watching your channel for years. I’m not even sure how I originally found it but it really interested me especially since I knew you were in Michigan. When I first started watching I lived in Muskegon, Michigan. Now I live in Bridgeton Township, Newaygo county. (On the river) I Have a very fond memories of camping at big blue lake when I was young. Your channel was one of the ones that inspired me to retire in a cottage in the woods. My children were not so happy but they’ve adjusted. My four-year-old grandson calls me the Granny in the forest!❤️ I love your channel and you teach me new things all the time! Thank you for all the videos you guys put out! You got this out-of-the-way in the nick of time! We have had lots of snow the last few days.
Yes Michigan is great. I'm in Grand Rapids but have lived in Grand Haven,Muskegon and Ludington too.

I love all your and Rachel's videos. I miss her, but know she's having a great time. She will surely love all the work you put into the cabin. Those leaves! They'd look good on the garden beds lol. I appreciate the time you both take to share with all of us. It feels like visiting with friends.

Instead of searching for longer shower curtain you could double link some shower curtain hooks to lower the curtain.

We just had storm Barra here in Ireland, my garden covers are shot, but I am too frigin cold to be arsed....how blessed with that beautiful cabin. Blessings! LoL. Someone told me once, there's no such thing as "too cold" - it's just incorrect clothing choices. I don't mind the cold too much, so long as I have proper gear for it.

We'll probably be back during the winter months. We try to make at least one trip up there in the snow, because it's just too pretty not too. We just have to make sure the snow isn't too deep - as the 3 miles of trails to get back there are plowed.

Someone may have said this but putting some insulation in that hole would have helped even more. You can use large bubble wrap as a cheap way to insulate it.

Well I see you're getting ready for winter. I live off grid full time. Are prepared 7 cord of wood for my winter Heat. I do have a propane hot top on my kitchen counter and a double Bay sink. I've been working on cabinets lately for my food storage and I have Gamo buckets to keep my dry stuff fresh. I have 800 watts of solar panels for my electric and recycle Rainwater for drinking and bathing. I have an outside shower with an on demand hot water heater. Little chilly in the winter time. But I do have to say I love living off grid. And I love the way you take care of that house up there it looks great. Got to love living in the woods don't you I sure do

15 years ago i started using cloth shower curtains that do an amazing job, they last a lifetime and are super easy to clean as well (8-15 dollars), I recommend them to everyone and typically they run really long. I had to trim my last one because it was too long for my shower

The mushrooms we were growing indoors? They were done growing a while ago. I ended up burying the growing material in some wood chips outside to see if we'll get something to grow back next year.

I had the "too short shower curtain" problem as well and added small ball chains loops (or you can do another curtain hook set) to each shower curtain hook, that lowered it by 2".

Todd-If you can’t find a longer shower curtain double up each curtain hook to extend them down longer. They are only like a dollar a package.

They love wood piles where I lived.
That extra long curtain you need used to be available at Sears. Might want to Google to find best option otherwise maybe wayfair.

We found a snake one time in our wood pile. Thought for sure it was a rattler, but ended up being a Puff Adder aka Eastern Hognose Snake. Scared the crap out of us ♥

You can get shower curtains in all kind of sizes on Amazon.
Try putting another row of curtain rings to the top
Look for shower "stall" liner they are longer and more narrow.
Hi Todd, for your refer look for a yellow-green powder on back. If there is it's a leak an the coil unit needs replaced. If using propane check burner for spiders air will not clear them. If DCV is used check heating element .
I've checked the burner, and cleaned the ignitor. Fires up and burns ok, just doesn't get cold. Either a leak, or a clog. I've read if you don't have a leak, flip it upside down for a day, and then back over and try to fire it up again. We'll give it a go in the spring and see what we can learn.
we had a travel trailer propane frig that stopped working. turned out the only thing wrong was there was a spider web that was blocking the ignition area

They make over long shower curtains, and liners. I know because I use them. I got mine at Walmart a year or so ago. But you can order by dimension from Amazon. I wont guarantee that they will be in stock or currently available, but they do make them.

I see the A1 on the counter behind you! I know some frown upon steak sauce, but it is my absolute favorite! Your steak looks delicious! You can get longer shower curtains online. Used to be able to get them at Walmart but not sure about now.
Yeah, I'm a bit of a "sauce junkie". Steak sauce can be good, but I don't use a ton. I sometimes use Dale's Season (sauce) as well.
Hook another shower curtain ring to each one. That should drop it down. Or something on that order.
