For people wondering about the "tiny houses" that people have next to their regular ones - they're called "friggebod" and is basically a building you're allowed to have without needing a permit for it, it can be maximum 15 square meter and are usually used as guest houses or an extra bedroom for bigger families in their summer houses :)
When my husband and I were first married, we lived on a houseboat on the Mississippi River. It was an old boat that we paid $3000 USD for back in 1988. It was a total fixer upper, but we loved it! The only thing we didn't fix was the engine, so it never moved while we owned it. It was only intended to be our home. We finally had to move because it was December in Wisconsin and I was 9 months pregnant. My husband was afraid that I would slip off the boat dock, so back to real life. Oh, spiders are a fact of life on the water. I hate spiders!
The way you buy tickets for buses in Stockholm is at newsagent stands, SL ticket offices, metro stations, via text messages or thru the SL App. You can also buy pre-paid SL cards or 24hr, 72hr or 30-day cards.
No tips/instruction on how to tie off the boat? That host is brave. I wonder how often they have to search out lost boats and rescue guests? Cool place.
If you ever come to Sweden again, please go to Visby, Gotland. I've been there for 14 summer vacations over the years and its the best, its like a second home almost. Its different compared to Mainland Sweden and it only takes like 3-4 hours with boat from Nynäshamn to gotland. Visby is a Medieval city, totally recommend it. I can even recommend someone who rents housings for much cheaper than others. its called Karl-Oskars Krypin, rent it way ahead of time since it goes fast for it to be booked.
@ 7:28 that's commitment. You guys set up the camera, got back in the boat then sped away. Then CAME BACK to show you guys showing up to the house! Love what you guys do for the viewers! Btw that dinner you guys made looked legit.
Those little potatoes are legendary especially with dill. Truly enjoy the Swedish countryside. Lots of people have summer houses along the rivers. I was mainly in northern Sweden along the Finnish and Sweden border. So beautiful!
Yeah, I remember my first - and only - airbnb experience! We not only had to wait over an hour for our host to show up, the apartment itself was also way too chaotic - and the best part? It was for sale, so when we were there.. We got people over that were looking to buy it while we were there! So NICE!! >_
I've been watching you guys for a couple of years now and you're adventures and quality of your vids keep getting better and better. Living the dream 👌!
State owned liquor stores were very common in Canada when I immigrated here in 1968. Same kind of restrictions you experienced and more. You couldn't actually wander the aisles and look at bottles. You had to know exactly what you wanted, fill out a form, turn it in, pay for your booze, and an employee would go get the bottles and bring them to you . Over the years this has gradually changed to open shelves, longer hours, and competition from private companies. I still like the provincial stores best, though. Call me crazy.
@theadam22 Well. If you just want to get wasted I guess it's pretty bad, but any swede with self respect know someone that makes moonshine.. Systemet can get you what ever you would like. Some times you must order a crate, but you will get it. After living in Norway for a decade I frown upon Swedish prices..Incredibly cheap in Sweden!
I think that all the time! I really wouldn't want to be 30 again, but to go on all those adventures!! Do it while you're young! Now my health won't allow me to do most of what they do everyday. But I live vicariously through my favorite vloggers. Thanks guys!
@@terriz7791 I have a whole host of syndromes, diseases and ailments, too. Arthritis, carpal tunnel, neuropathy and the real kicker, fibromyalgia. There are other minor complaints, mostly of the neurological type such as restless leg syndrome, in fact, I had that last night. I realize it sounds like a rather silly condition, but when one is just dog tired, lying in bed having already drifted off to sleep for an hour or so, to have the RLS kick in (literally) is *seriously* annoying! I used to try to fight it, but not anymore. Now I just take the right pill for that, and go back to bed. I'm sound asleep in 30 to 45 minutes. I live vicariously through my favorite vloggers, too. I'm very happy that I have them.
The reason we don't sell chilled alcoholic beverages is because public consumption of alcohol is illegal here so it would be useless to buy something chilled which will just heat up on the way home.
That boat house was so cute! About the alcoholic drinks, you will no doubt remember it's the same thing in Finland. There the state owned liquor stores are called Alko. Pretty similar opening times. In the regular shops I think you can buy beer up to 4.6% or so. But after 9pm you are not allowed to buy any at all. So indeed, something to keep in mind if you want to get some booze ;)
Systembolaget is a great way of making sure that people don't go driving to the store to pick up more alcohol late at night :) And the alcohol is kept at room temperature to make sure that no one starts drinking immediately by the store which helps to keep the drinking out in public down as well. But as a Swede I certainly think that the store should be open until at least 6 pm on Saturdays!! In my city it's open until 3 pm.
Eric, you're were well prepared driving that boat. and OMG wow y'all got an SUV Audi for a rental. NICE! The house boat was quite cute and quaint. Thank gosh for the DRONE so if your boat floated away you could find it. Glad it didn't. Nice job on grilling all that yummy goodness. This is definitely why we LOVE Airbnb's. Putting a floating tiny house (hopefully minus the big spiders) on our full time travel schedule. YEAH BABY!!
How can you choose not to use the sauna!? 😲 That thing is a vamped up sauna-raft. Every swede would sit in the sauna, jump into the water and enjoy some cold beer 😁 btw, put your beverages in a plastic, attach a rope and lower it to the bottom of the sea. It's the best cooler. The temperature is app 4 degrees Celsius down there
Yeah the communal commute payment is a problem even for us Swedes. There's a payment app for the phone which is probably the most currently used method of payment unless you've got a commuter card, from "pressbyrån" or at the tollbooths at train-stations and subway-stations, at least in Stockholm. Most regions have their own phone apps though.
Yeess, love your travel vlogs and food reviews, been following for a while, and can't believe how excited I get when notification comes through lol .... you guys do such a great job .... hope you come back to New Zealand again ❤
This is so freaking cute!!! You guys have stayed in some awesome places, and this is definitely up there with the bunker! I still also can’t believe Eric has his hat!!! He hasn’t lost it yet! 🥰🥰😂 looking forward to the rest of your Swedish adventuresb
I wonder, do all people who stay in that air bnb need to be proficient in tying sail knots and driving motor boats? I’m surprised the host wasn’t around.
spiders spin strands of web and let the winds disperse them, they're right next to an island with tall trees, also a lot of/most spiders don't break surface tension so they can walk on water, there's also floating debris, the dinghy they came in etc. etc.
I guess some people have already commented on the systembolaget but the main reason is to make it hard for young people to get hold of alcohol. The best thing is that since the goal is not to make as much money as possibly the number of different brands of alcohol is staggering. You can find beer, wine or whatever from all around the world. I don´t think it´s common to find beer from Italy, Japan, Croatia, Poland, Mexico, South africa, Thailand, Austalia, Hungary...well pretty much from anywhere in the world in a liquor store in the U.S or elsewhere in Europe.
I'm so glad that you didn't drift off somewhere in the night! Also I'm wondering how the spiders got over there - do spiders have their own ferries!? Do spiders have vacations? Might there be a spider version of Endless Adventure? I guess so... ;) Great video btw!!!
Spiders make a webb and paraglide with the winds, the actually are capable to cross oceans, spiders are amazing animals, don't be afraid in Sweden there are no poison spiders, and both spiders and wasps actually keep a lot of other insects, buga and flies away, so they are friends not foes.
A rental car, a boat, another boat to get to a tiny houseboat in the middle of the water with spiders. Not my idea of a vacation but was fun watching you do it lol.
Just a note on Systembolaget. You are correct it's a monopoly but for a good reason, at least I think so. Systembolaget is not allowed to promote alcohol so they won't push product on to you. Would agree how cute that house is! We are finishing our trans-siberian train journey there - I wish we knew about this place earlier so we could have stayed there!

Swedes assume a grown up guy knows how to tie up a boat .

I’m sure a child does if they live by the water. PEOPLE don’t know how to if they’ve never done so

What a wonderful memory you will have forever for this place. What a sweet tiny house.
Allison: Even though we didn't sleep that good, it was SUPER-cozy!
So... "super-cozy" is the new code phrase for cramped AF?
