It was this line that knocked Dutch out of his thoughts of betrayal, and forced him to realize what he’d done: chase down one of his oldest friends and caused Micah to beat him within an inch of his life. He finally realized that Micah had been lying all along, and all he could do in that moment was leave without a word.

Epilogue is pretty sweet and definitely not so dark as the end of chapter 6. Hope you'll play epilogue, because it'll make Arthur's death meaningful and the playthrough of this game happier for you, at least i hope for that. Will be a shame to drop playing this game without satisfying closure. But of course if you'll decide to not continue the game because it's hard to come back, we'll support you.
Actually, chapter 6 is a mess from the beginning. Remember Molly's death and how Beaver Hollow's camp is so silent and different from the rest of the band's settlements?

I found Arthur’s death beautiful. It may be because I’m getting old and I’m a parent, but his death is a dramatized version of the best kind of death I think anyone can hope for. All I want is to go out passing the baton in this relay race to my kids and the next generation in a better position than it was passed to me. Arthur accomplishes that. Like he said “Despite my greatest efforts to the contrary, it turns out I won”. I love how they immediately cut to John and Abigail years later and we see what Arthur died for (not to mention the music is great there). Arthur didn’t have a conventional family, he had the gang and his code. He lived by that and in the end made his life and legacy more meaningful than most. I don’t know what else people could hope for in death. Plus, as per Arthur’s quote to Hosea, (paraphrasing) “let me die looking at the sunrise and remembering the good times we had”. Hosea would be proud of Arthur.
Snarp 1 that’s an even bigger insult. He’s a hero, and he gets to come back as someone’s dinner 😩 imagine as soon as he runs free, he catches an arrow to the heart. That blows. He’s gonna end up as someone’s trophy.
Dont kill me but I didn't cry but I did feel really bummed the whole day I never cried during a game mainly because my mind tells me this is a game and its fake
@@zanesnep ugly crying in the sense that arthur died not because of the ending. Arthur died young with a long life ahead of him but because of his choises he will never see the future of what could've been had he decided to settle down and have kids with Mary Linton (i think is her name)
Ishmam Yousuf but because of his choices in life he caught it. He decided to do bounties which in turn caused him to go to that one farmers house to get the money. Then once he got there he beat the sick farmer which in turn caused him to get tuberculosis. If he chose to leave Dutch then that would’ve never happened and he would’ve left with Mary Linton. You should probably research more about it before commenting.
It wasn't Arthur's death that broke me, it was in the epilogue. In an instant, years had passed by without him, and everyone spoke of him like he was this distant memory. It felt like being dead myself, but hearing my friends and family talk about me afterwards. THAT FEELING freaked me the hell out, and THEN came the waterworks.

You getting emotional at the ending almost got me. When Arthur died, I didn't cry like I thought I might. Maybe because I already accepted he would die a long time ago. Instead of crying, I just sat them with a disapproving look. I felt empty towards the end, so by the time Arthur died, I kind of did what you did here. I had to stop playing at that moment. Same here, I didn't cry at Arthur's Death cause I already made amends and knew the end was nigh. But I did get a bit teary-eyed when I visited his grave
Arthur was just like Hosea. Hosea was sick and had little time left to live you see him being reasonable throughout the story. That's what Arthur did too he saw he had little time left and wanted to help people. If Hosea had survived and Dutch saw him take Arthur's side Micah would have been shot down right there
I know it ain’t real. And I knew he would die. But when I first played a month ago i cried like someone in my family died. And every time I watch a vid with it I cry. ;-;

Some are gut wrenching. As a fan and player of both RDR and RDR2, the story is all about redemption and Arthur did get redemption. Also you caring so much for Arthur, Max and crew just shows what a beautiful person you are.
As sad as this was and as much as it made me cry when I played it, I couldn't help but feel my chest bursting with pride knowing you got to witness this remarkable character use his last days to try and save others despite everything going on around him. He struggled and failed as TB ravaged his body and the consequences of Dutch's madness ravaged his conscience but he committed to doing right by everyone else. In the end it took a fucking cross country train robbery where everything possible went wrong, practically being a one-man army in a shootout with the Pinkertons in an abandoned town, evading the same Pinkertons through hill country on horseback and foot, squaring off with his old gang as they betrayed him one final time, sacrificing himself so that others could escape this life, and finally a brutal fist fight to the death against a healthy Micah that he still nearly won. And it still couldn't kill him. Even after being left for dead he managed to crawl to that spot and have a few moments of silence to reflect on his life and is imminent death. It may have been a heartbreaking end but was also so satisfying to see him end things on his terms in spite of the limitations he had. He was broken but not defeated. I'll be damned if this isn't some of the best damn writing for a main character I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a video game.
A weak, frail, TB-ridden Arthur held his own against a fairly healthy Micah. That's some impressive shit right there. Also I really hope you do the epilogue, it's a bit brighter than the third act of the main game and helps set up the first game if you ever play that.
This video and your reaction, as well as your in-depth analysis of Dutch’s personality issues and Arthur’s tuberculosis, is why I’ve subscribed to your channel. Thank you for your hard work, these are very enjoyable to watch
Yeah this is the game that finally broke me, I’ve played so many other heartbreaking games and made it through without just breaking down. But Arthur’s story just broke me, the way he’s so relatable and you can tell how much he cares and tries to provide for everyone in the group the whole time. Seeing everyone turn on him, especially Dutch was heart wrenchingly awful. I still say that Arthur Morgan is the best character of any media of all time, to me at least. When he died it felt like a loved one died or I lost a part of me
i spent 3 years in this game before i finished the story. i did every side mission, collectable, challenge, compendium & easter egg i could before all that was left was the final mission. even then, for a long time i couldn’t bring myself to start it because i knew what would happen just not how it would go down. i was extremely attached to RDR1 all those years ago, for a long time i was so mad at rockstar for its ending that broke me so much because i spent so much time in that game too. RDR2 was something much more though. the game feels like what decades of gaming had been building to. the visuals, characters, story & the unequalled living world that feels so real that i would be lost in it for hours doing nothing at all because of how comforting & perfect the world in the game is. but then, there’s one perfect thing above it all & that, is arthur morgan. the greatest gaming protagonist ever created. his story arc will never be bested. from all of the enormous changes to him throughout the story to the minor things while roaming the world freely such as the very great many lines of dialogue from greeting & antagonising people, the almost endless things you can do as arthur, it’s literally like living his life. he began s the game as a loyal, hard to break yet seemingly almost careless person but he is nothing but pure heart blinded by dutch for so long. the story slowly reveals a man no player can hate. he’s funny, witty, ruthless & wise. he feels so real. he’s our friend, he’s like family. we know his time is short but watching him want nothing but goodness to come from his end after years of being the not so good, is the happiness we can at least take away while our hearts break losing him. watching arthur pass away was so real because of the journey. and when i did complete that final mission, i genuinely felt lost. as if i had actually done the wrong thing bringing the story to an end as i had lived this world for 3yrs. your reactions i relate to very much. every player went through what you did. it wasn’t easy. doesn’t get any easier on further play throughs either. but i have a save before i started that final mission & just like restarting the game, arthur can live forever & he never truly leaves. that’s the peace i take from the game. the epilogue was good & rolled well into setting up RDR1. but as we enter into the next generation of gaming, there’s one thing for sure. red dead redemption 2 will always be the greatest game ever made & arthur morgan will forever be the greatest gaming protagonist. sure? SHOAR!

Molly lied about being the rat because she wanted a reaction out of Dutch. He never gave her any kind of attention throughout everything and she just wanted something. Also. When you play the epilogue, make sure you visit the outside of the train station in Valentine at some point. Theres a secret cutscene there :)
@@EarthIsFlat456 exactly. I felt sorry for her during my first play through, but during my second I saw how annoying she was. Her and dutch would argue relentlessly at all hours of the night and it was always about how Dutch doesn't give her enough attention. Or how he's flirting with Mary Beth. I wanted the option to go over to their tent and tell them to shut the hell up. Besides that, like you said, she never helps out around camp, never brings home any money. She is easily the most useless member of the gang. Even Mary-Beth brought Arthur that train job.
@@-hasamastersdegreeinwumbol8565 the only purpose she serves in the gang is to give Dutch some "diversion" but once he loses interest on her she also outlives her usefulness. Uncle might be lazy as well but at least he can cheer the gang up.
@@EarthIsFlat456 uncle is awesome. He is lazy, but he actually will do work if you push him hard enough. And he also has a mission where he takes initiative and you ride with him to steal some cattle. The only other person who doesn't do much for the gang is Reverend Swanson, but he's got his own hang ups, what with being hopelessly depressed and a true drunkard. I've even seen Swanson attempt to steal money from the contribution box.
@Ali Shabbiri actually, if you really think about it, you can see that you're wrong. Molly is the only character who doesn't do shit. Charles, well, Charles is awesome. I don't even have to defend him because he obviously pulls his own weight. Javier brought Arthur several different jobs, like robbing a homestead. John acted on Mary-Beth's train robbery tip and organized it, bringing along Sean and Charles. Uncle, while he may seem like a lazy fuck, will actually do some work if Arthur makes him. There was even a mission where Uncle invites Arthur on a job that involved robbing a man of his cattle. Bill, while I don't really like him that much personally, has brought money in for the gang like that robbery in Valentine. Lenny has invited Arthur on stage coach robberies. Micah, even though he's the biggest piece of shit ever, to state the obvious, he at least brought in money for the gang and rode out on various main missions. Karen rode out on that Valentine bank robbery job, and was a huge help. Miss Grimshaw, while she doesn't necessarily ride out on missions, has probably the hardest job of all, keeping the camp running smoothly and putting anyone to work who looks like they're not doing anything, mostly the girls. The only other one that I'm not sure about is Abigail. I like her, but these are all off the top of my head and, right now, I can't think of any moment where she brings in any money. She does have a responsibility looking after Jack, so there's that. Now tell me, what does Molly do that doesn't involve nagging at Dutch for one reason or another?
Your playthrough is this game at it's full potential, the fun, the shenanigans the pain, the agony, the emotional connection to family and the act of losing it all. You killed it through and through with each video, decision and reaction. Best playthrough of this game I've seen and that's BEFORE I get into your bubbly personality and humor. @@kavoozle2145 What makes it even more interesting was that it wasn't intentional on the writers' part. Gabriel, the actor who plays Javier, was the person who had the idea to aim the gun in the air. When asked by the director why he was doing that, he said he believes Javier wouldn't do that to his brothers. It's a clever and cool detail.

@@josephstalin2606 we never got confirmation that Javier(or anyone besides Dutch) actually saw any of that. We know Dutch found John's body since John knows he was left behind, right? 1. John is only blaming Dutch in RDR2 2. John would also most likely hear Dutch telling everyone how they need to leave John behind 3. If Dutch wanted to inform everyone that John is gonna be left behind, they wouldn't even need to go to John's body to begin with. 4. It would create many complications that are never addressed in the game. Arthur and Sadie need to be lied to by the rest of the gang which doesn't make sense because at that point they're still part of the gang javier is dutch's dog, but not to this extent
@@teratoma. 1. Javier was literally on horseback when he and Dutch plus Micah and Joe left him behind meaning he definitely saw it. John addresses this in the first game and Javier tries to downplay it at first but when he sees he can’t convince John he stops trying to lie about it and instead tries to make a run for it meaning he knew what he did 2. John obviously wouldn’t have known, and as I said the decision to leave John behind wasn’t planned but it’s something Dutch and the rest of the gang wanted since most of them thought John and/or Arthur were traitors and were constantly defying Dutch. John getting shot off the train was the perfect excuse to leave him for dead and have him killed off without them getting blood on their hands 3. Again, leaving John behind wasn’t something that was planned ahead but once they saw John and the army riding up to him (they were still following the train so some of them definitely ran into John) they decided he wasn’t worth the trouble and they would be better off if John got captured or killed 4. Arthur WAS lied to. When he asks “Where’s John” Dutch and Micah straight up said that the bullet that shot him off the train was the one that killed him and they had to run away, which if you played the 1st game you already know isn’t true. Javier was right beside Dutch and Micah through all this and he still was fine leaving John to die so idk why you’re trying to defend him still. It’s heavily implied mostly in the first game that Dutch and Javier knew John was still alive and if John was THAT hurt that Dutch thought he was dead than how did John escape the army? John obviously had to have held them off since he’s not dead when he shows up to Beaver hollow obviously and he clearly wasn’t arrested meaning he killed the pursuing army guys and/or escaped and hid from them

That was my exact reaction to this game and I'm a 47 year old man. The greatest game I have ever played. It was great to see your reaction to it, even if it was 2 years later.
We all have a shared heartbreak from this game, and I think it's why everyone wanted you to play it, Tofu. Seeing the impact it made on you makes the rest of us not feel weak because we all cried too. I'm a grown man, in my 30's and this game made me bawl the same way. The way you feel right after finishing the game sucks, but the memory of this game - and it's characters - will stick with you. Rockstar told one of the most interesting and memorable stories in gaming with this title. The fact that they were able to make you actually hate Micah is a tribute to their storytelling. The way you feel seeing Dutch descend into madness and betray you - you feel it because throughout the story you BECOME Arthur. Awful feelings like what you felt here can't exist until there is a real connection with the characters. RDR2 is my "greatest game of all time" to this day because of that fact. No other game before or since has made me feel so connected to it in the same way. We're all sending you virtual hugs now. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with us.
Thank you for the video, Tori. Like any form of art, games are able to make us feel both joy and sadness. Things you should be aware of while playing as John: 1. The Epilogue is nowhere NEAR as depressing as Ch. 6 (as others have mentioned). I think you need some joy in your life. ;-) 2. You can still do essentially all the side missions Arthur didn't complete. Interestingly, it even changes the dialogue... I strongly recommending checking out the "pig farm" (north/northeast of Rhodes), if nothing else! 3. The ENTIRE map is finally open for exploring, the new section largely representing the "traditional western" setting in the desert (may look familiar to someone from Arizona). The map becomes much easier to traverse after completing a certain number of John missions. 4. You may run into some familiar faces if you explore a few familiar towns... Trying to avoid spoilers here, but you still have quite a bit left worth seeing! Please continue once you feel ready. ;-)
Thank you. I am going through a lot right now and your playthrough has really helped a lot. Thank you for playing this and sharing your experience and emotions with the people of the internet. Your video is more helpful than you realize.
I just played through this part yesterday, had a horse named Silver that was with me for pretty much the entire game. I expected Arthur's death, I was not ready for Silver's. That one hurt.
Hey completed this game around the first 2 months it was out I had a big black horse the one hosea stole on episode 2 I dyed his mane and tail white and called him Venom I had him since the very beginning it broke my heart when he died
That "thank you" is so powerful. Though it sucks that there are STILL couple of missions where your horse can accidentally die on its own. That scene works only if you were riding with your horse for awhile, not just replaced one due to a bug.
I finished this 5 days ago also. I was literally crying and frustrated that Arthur had to die. But his death is what makes this game complete. It's what makes it so good
They actually lifted that from a popular old west movie called 'butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid'. Watch Jump off cliff scene. It's great and they did a great job calling back to it. If you watch alot of old west movies like I did growing up. You'll notice ALOT of nods to those movies.
I love watching these play throughs . This is what every story should strive to be. I cried like a baby multiple times I played it. This is the best game there ever will be. Hands down best. Your emotions prove it.
I had never cried for a game, but definitely, this masterpiece left me speechless and with a huge sorrow for the death of me, the best character I have played in a video game. It's a shame that a band that was completely a family ends up so bad because of Micah. Arthur spent 20 years with Dutch, practically grew up with him and Dutch trusted Micah more than just a few months with the band than Arthur who was like his son. Too bad the famous band Van Der Linde ends like this. The game is a fucking masterpiece, the best I have ever played and I think the best I will play. I am looking forward to seeing you play the epilogue and I hope you are lucky and don't shed so many tears. This 2020 is mentally tearing you apart, first the virus and now Arthur's death. I don't know you personally, but I'm sure it's one of your worst years as a video game player. I send you much encouragement from Spain desde. By the way, great video 👏👏.

I know right!? It’s probably the best death scene of all games

Unlike SOMEONE I know. (Lou2)
A weak, frail, TB-ridden Arthur held his own against a fairly healthy Micah. That's some impressive shit right there.

i spent 3 years in this game before i finished the story. i did every side mission, collectable, challenge, compendium & easter egg i could before all that was left was the final mission. even then, for a long time i couldn’t bring myself to start it because i knew what would happen just not how it would go down. i was extremely attached to RDR1 all those years ago, for a long time i was so mad at rockstar for its ending that broke me so much because i spent so much time in that game too.

Molly's useless anyway. She never does any work, never contributes. The gang is better off without her.

And it works. Not many of the genre around today. Once or twice depressing story to watch is fine. Made us humble and realize we are human and not big headed selfish mofo
Please finish the game I was the same after Arthur died I took a long break from the game then I came back and finished the epilogue in about 2 days I’ll say this it’s so worth finishing the game many heartfelt moments and happy scenes also a wave of redemption when you finish
"Are you not entertained" is possibly the best timed line ive heard from watching reactions to arthur dying
Love how Javier can't bring himself to aim his gun at wat he used to call family
@@bluerobot8543 It kinda contradicts him leaving John for dead with Dutch and Micah during the last train job though. Clearly he’s fine with leaving John to fend for himself against the army but it’s too much to point a gun at him even though Dutch is?
@@josephstalin2606 When they left John for dead, Javier just blindly followed Dutch in the heat of the moment, much like the final standoff. In both instances it was a quick decision where Javier never double thought because it was a fast and dangerous situation.
@@josephstalin2606 we never got confirmation that Javier(or anyone besides Dutch) actually saw any of that.
We know Dutch found John's body since John knows he was left behind, right?
1. John is only blaming Dutch in RDR2
2. John would also most likely hear Dutch telling everyone how they need to leave John behind
3. If Dutch wanted to inform everyone that John is gonna be left behind, they wouldn't even need to go to John's body to begin with.
4. It would create many complications that are never addressed in the game. Arthur and Sadie need to be lied to by the rest of the gang which doesn't make sense because at that point they're still part of the gang
javier is dutch's dog, but not to this extent
@@teratoma. 1. Javier was literally on horseback when he and Dutch plus Micah and Joe left him behind meaning he definitely saw it. John addresses this in the first game and Javier tries to downplay it at first but when he sees he can’t convince John he stops trying to lie about it and instead tries to make a run for it meaning he knew what he did
2. John obviously wouldn’t have known, and as I said the decision to leave John behind wasn’t planned but it’s something Dutch and the rest of the gang wanted since most of them thought John and/or Arthur were traitors and were constantly defying Dutch. John getting shot off the train was the perfect excuse to leave him for dead and have him killed off without them getting blood on their hands
3. Again, leaving John behind wasn’t something that was planned ahead but once they saw John and the army riding up to him (they were still following the train so some of them definitely ran into John) they decided he wasn’t worth the trouble and they would be better off if John got captured or killed
John obviously had to have held them off since he’s not dead when he shows up to Beaver hollow obviously and he clearly wasn’t arrested meaning he killed the pursuing army guys and/or escaped and hid from them
tofu the game gets alot happier after this and alot more fun. that was pretty much the end of all the depressing stuff. I think the rest is worth playing
I mean, it is fun but I know what you mean.
Fun just being fun without depression
Eh..there’s some messed up stuff in the epilogue too.
besides the fact that John, Uncle, Abigeal, Javier, Bill and Dutch die in Red Dead Redemption 1
2:44:30 This part will ALWAYS get me. "Who among you is with me and who is betraying me" Like wtf Dutch did you NOT see what Micah did to someone you've known for freaking years!? Does Michah Outrank even Susan???
2:57:13 And THIS part always gets the tears flowing....That weak "I gave you all I had." Line.....gets me every time along with Dutch looking like he was actually effected by that line too.
Micah played Dutch like a fiddle.
The idea of being betrayed terrifies Dutch more than the idea of Susan dying
Dutch was obviously affected, you just see it on his face and for the first time in his life he doesn't know what to say
Dutch is actually sicker than Arthur lol. Dutch hits his head at the mission where you rob a train station with Lenny and Dutch. You can search it in UA-cam. He can’t think right.
@@ghostofsparta091 That's just a fan theory that'd make his entire character development pointless if that's the only reason or the biggest reason for why he acts that way
If it makes it even worse, Susan and Dutch had a relationship many years before the events of the game (according to their backstory), and she still stuck by him even after they broke up. Dutch just watched her die.
That was my exact reaction to this game and I'm a 47 year old man. The greatest game I have ever played. It was great to see your reaction to it, even if it was 2 years later.
"We're riding with you.."
That line gave me goosebumps.. i wish i had played this game myself before i watched your playthrough.. wow
Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with us.
x1000 all of this!
we're so attached to a character that we knew the moment he drew his last breath
Somebody hug her coz she just hugged herself when he took his last breathe and now I’m hugging myself
Thank you for the video, Tori. Like any form of art, games are able to make us feel both joy and sadness. I can feel how heartbroken you are by watching this, just the same way I felt when I played it. I hope you continue playing the epilogue. I swear, if you decide to go on with it, you won’t regret it. Love from your Brazilian fans ❤️
Arthur’s Last Ride was the games way of having the player say goodbye to Arthur, which is why it hits so hard
Man, I really came to this video just to cry again, huh? XD
I've been there tofu. I remember choking up when the last ride started, and it got even worse when I lost my horse. You're not the only one who was crying, trust me. RIP Arthur Morgan, my favorite video game protagonist bar none.
i miss hosea, lenny, sean and the old gang every day
2:33:36 the immediate change in facial expression lmao
Things you should be aware of while playing as John:
1. The Epilogue is nowhere NEAR as depressing as Ch. 6 (as others have mentioned). I think you need some joy in your life. ;-)
Please continue once you feel ready. ;-)
5. Avoid deep water because apparently John can’t swim in this game either.
That was also in the first game. Also, John's Dead Eye sound is different than Arthur's. It's the little things.
I feel ya too. Im sick of the pain sadness almost everyday in this world. I hope the world gets better for all of us including you.
arthurs death is the saddest thing ive been through, i was so attached to arthur
And John's
i feel like i've been waiting forever for this, hell yea!!
*Woman talks to Arthur* QueenTofu: “I ship it!” Lol
@@Nightley4 Only happens with lvl 4 bond i believe.
@@FrederikSeerupNielsen Thats a really nice touch
RIP Silver
Life is full of pain, but it is also filled with love and beauty. So do a loving act. Arthur does. What a beautiful story.

I hope nobody clowns her for crying. This game was heart touching man I cried at that point too
Micah: Shoots Grimshaw

This is great. You're SO invested in the story. Your sincerity has earned a subscriber.
Facts Man Timeless Masterpiece😭😭😭
Bought this game on day 1 of release and took me an entire year to finish...it was the only game I played in that time. I did every mission possible and explored every area possible. Loved it.
at least Arthur got to see the sun rise one last time before he died. RIP Arthur
At least she didn't have low honor, otherwise the ending would be soulcrushing
well the low honor ending isnt that emotional in fact its less emotional than the high honor one, i got the low honor one on the first playthrough (cause of the broken and stupid honor system) and i remember crying but i cried WAAAY more in the high honor one plus you dont realize that you got the low honor ending until you google it.
@Cyberdemon Mike whats the difference between what?
@Cyberdemon Mike are you asking about what happens in those endings or why one less emotional than the other?
@Cyberdemon Mike low honor ending is getting shot in the head by micah and high honor ending is dying while looking at the sunrise
@@nam9085 I'm not sure how the honor system is broken. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
