I've become very comfortable not owning Ubisoft games.
Now that they released Beyond Good and Evil, they're dead to me.
When they took The Crew from me i swore an oath. Never again!
I'm very comfortable not owning all modern games.
Will just hold onto my old Rayman discs, not going to spend a penny on their new garbage.
A lot of the Ubisoft games are on Microsoft gamepass.
Why buy when I can rent for far less money?
They wanted us to not own games, so I don’t buy games except for physical discs, which I only buy pre-owned.

I would personally say PS2/ og Xbox, they started this dlc 🐂💩 during the PS3/360 generation.

Intrusive stay online restrictions; massive day one patch and a pitiful number of characters with fighting games. The second half of the game basically you gotta buy as a DLC, not to mention that the base game cost a full price.

Everytime i get frustrated with ubisoft i look at the stock price and remember....were winning.
First of all I dont think peoples expectations are any higher now than they were 20 years ago, in fact I think the bar has been lowered significantly. Second of all they literally fought to raise the msrp of AAA games. And lets be honest here, buying a full feature complete game isnt 70 bucks, it's 120+ dollars. Due to all the secondary dlc that gets ripped from the final game to get sold to us later. Games are more expensive than ever before so how do you think gamers feel when they compare a new title in a series to an older previous title only to find out in many way's the gameplay has been downgraded? We expect more because the games industry used to be capable of more.

If one studio offers "extraordinary experiences" for $60(lets say GTA5, BG3, RDR2 and so on)... exactly why we should not expect the same level of experiences for the same $60 from another studio? We dont expect GTA5 level from $20 indie games or even $40 idie games, we are too fair if you ask me and dont expect a $10 difference when its $50 vs $60 games even, you cant get more fair than this. They complain about gamers buying their games yet you don't see issues with BM Wukong, Pal World, Space Marine 2, hell even Baldurs Gate 3 which had a ton of woke crap in it sold insanely well because it was high quality.

The main problem is that they trully believe that star wars outlaws and other DEI games are good. They trully can`t see the reason why it is a failure, in their vision the only reason is the gamers. When i was in the left, i heard many times how by just adding black trans woman in the story made it more complex, many layers, adding sociological nuances, and so on. They trully think that it is a revolution in the industry, with things never seen before. In their woke mind just by adding those features and putting some criticism for what they call as patriachy or capitalism make their poor narrative a good one. And for the massive rest of players is just, "okay you put a gay kiss in your, but... where is the rest of the story?". In the end the wokeism brain damage them.
Ironically, the one good game they could have had this year (Prince of Persia), got buried under the "Get use to not owning your games" debacle, which no doubt had a big part in killing a lot of gamer interest in the title.

In USSR we had a sort of "conditional purchases" and I think this is what our overlords eventually want to install.
I'll explain what I mean. We seemingly had a choice when it came to purchases of entertainment, for example we only bought books by great authors (that were approved by the censorship committee of course) and we avoided party propaganda booklets, commie propaganda literature and such as a plague. So the Communist Party came up with an idea - they ordered to put a condition on every purchase of popular books, so that if you wanted to buy a good book, you had to purchase a party booklet, a compilation of party speeches, some stupid propaganda "literature" from a party paid author than noone would otherwise touch. Of course the party slop went into recycling immediately, but we did pay our hard earned money for it.
Just be prepared for the possibility of conditioned sales, something like "Black Myth Wukong (comes only paired with Dustborn) for full price of both games combined"
Call me an old fart, but for me the peak of creative cheap gaming was PS2. Over 6 k games were launched on the system and the console is compatible with wireless joystick and external hard drive. Offline play, no loot box, no season pass. Perfection.

Sad but more or less typical progression of a company. As soon as the "suit wearing, never having really worked a day number crunchers" take over, quality of a product goes downhill. Boeing is the best example and while I think in terms of software development the timeline is much shorter (The takeover [sic!] of McDonnelDouglas of Boeing was in 1996, almost 30 years ago) seems to me Ubisoft is in the middle of its "door gets ripped off its hinges in mid-air" phase. I looked up The Witcher (2007) and it took CDPR a mere 13 years to arrive at "peak valley" so to speak with Cyberpunk and almost 4 years to fix that mistake to get it into a decent playable state and I have serious doubts Ubisoft will invest that much time into SW:Outlaws or into AC:Shadows.
So let me get this straight:
* First they take a broken franchise that has basically alienated a great chunk of its audience and devote a HUGE budget to create this
* They botched their productivity via DEI, getting poorly prepared and overpaid employees in a very very challenging field that leaves no room for error making for an insanely expensive and low quality game (wasting a great deal of their budget here)
* Then they crafted a story for modern audiences (something its marked has consistently rejected)
* Went through extra efforts to make darn sure its protagonist was as charisma starved as possible
* Harass all their potential marketing/communication channels by directly insulting critics and fans and silencing consumers instead of making things better and fixing their stuff
* And finally, to put icing on that brown cake of wonders, they course correct by doubling down on the hostility to their customers as their key strategy to avoid going out of business....
