    Russians (Su-27 Family): Let's see if we can get drunk without alcohol.
    Europeans (Typhoon): Let's throw this thing in full afterburner for ten minutes and see how hard it is to stall this thing.
    Americans (F-22): Let's make this plane stick to the sky like a booger sticks to a wall.

      Hi Wesley,
      I'm a "Kraut" in Germany.LOL
      Seriously, I love your American " F-22 RAPTOR ".
      Let's stick together, particularly in these days as the "IS - Islamic State" is permanently threatening our freedom and democracy.with violence.
      We all know about the recent terror atack in Paris, France a few days ago.
      So let's kick those asses upstairs ...not to heaven, but to Pluto.
      Our government has decided to support France.
      So Germany will support the Alliance against Irak and Syria by
      delegating 1 frigate as to be on escort duty to the French aircraft carrier "Charles Degaulle", and furthermore the number of 6 jets "Tornado",
      and moreover 1.200 military personell.
      That's my country's first contribution.
      Germany ows it to its Brothers in Arms.
      Wesley, I beg your pardon for my poor , bad English.
      You know English it not my first language, not my mother language.
      German is my native language.
      So please forgive me if I made too many mistakes in grammar, spelling and writing.
      Take care, mate.
      Best regards from Germany,
      Rainer

    These comment sections are always filled with patriots from their respective countries claiming their aircraft is the best, truth be told because their country made it! How blind of people. The Eurofighter is the fastest aircraft of its type with the longest range. It is designed to be aerodynamically unstable to make it so manoeuvrable. This is a British/German piece of engineering with both countries having hands in the development of this aircraft, with Spain and Italy manufacturing a few of the components. EF was designed from the beginning to be upgradable. BAE systems are already developing stealth lock-on missile and laser guns for this aircraft.

    The comments are out of date, the radar is superb, the helmet display gives a whole warfare picture night vision included it ties up with the F35 electronically for a big picture, I think it had the Meteor missile first. The air to ground weapons cover most requirements. Typhoon has already carried out some difficult ground to air missions. It even has uprated engines available, but doesn’t need them yet.

    The Typhoon is basically the top maneuvering fighter around at the moment. Reason? When RAF pilots flew them against Indian airforce SU30s a few years ago, the Indian press deliberately misquoted RAF pilots, changing the word "Tornado" to "Typhoon". The real quote was "As anticipated, the SU30 was more maneuverable than the TORNADO ( no surprise there) but IAF pilots were surprised by the agility of the Typhoon." So why change the quote? Well, cos the Typhoon ran rings around the SU30, and the tranche 3 aircraft get vectored thrust nozzles.

    Apples to Oranges, they're both multirole fighters but they excel at different things, the Eurofighter was designed to be naturally unstable and have computerised systems to keep it flying, this makes it very agile as it actually wants to spin, turn and tumble, the F-35 has more advanced electronic warfare capabilities, stealth and the ability to be used on aircraft carriers.

      It's low speed without much airflow/semi stall situations when flying physics gets stretched.

    I agree that the high AOA stuff is mostly useless in a dogfight, but the Su-35S has the same burst turn rate as the Typhoon, they both have helmet mounted sights, both have +60 degree SRM's, both have similar combat ranges, both have active thermal tracking systems, both have the similar RCS's and AESA radar with similar proforming MRM's... and the Su-35S costs less than half as much as a Typhoon. It's like comparing an M-16 to an AK-47. Both can kill you, but the Russian's do it cheaper.

    I had DID's EF2000, a windows 95 game and it was a great simulator. Whenever I see the typhoon flying it feels like I'm seeing an old friend, at age 6 I called it EFA pronounced "Eafer". I'm glad it's doing as well as it is. It's an asset to the RAF and the other air forces that accommodate it.

  • @GambitPax
    @GambitPax 11 років тому +1

    It's not just the canard's that make the typhhon so good with the aerobatics, the design of the plane is actually aerodynamically unstable and its complex computer system helps to keep the plane in flight. I knew someone who worked at BAE and developed some of the safety protocols that prevented the computer system from suffering a major meltdown to keep the plane safe and flyable.

    The Eurofighter programme is the western powers playing catch up with the advanced designs of the Mig29 and the Su27 and her variants.
    One would shudder to think how capable are the fully operational frontline SU-35s and Mig35s can do. They are extremely agile and have advanced avionics these days.

    For example, the RAF use the Typhoon mainly as an air superiority fighter whereas the F-35B variants they have on order will be used as multirole fighters, able to be used on short, quickly set up runways due to the STOVL capability.
    The Royal Navy will also use the F-35B on the new HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, does not make the Eurofighter obsolete, just suitable for a different purpose.

      Monster LMA never. The F22 can not even beat the Eurofighter in a dogfight so how should the turkey aka F35 could be able to. The F35 has to small wings to turn like the Eurofighter can do so your statement is bogus.

    • @muppetrowlf1473
      @muppetrowlf1473 9 років тому +2

      Simple really. The F-35 produces more thrust and it's smaller wing is no greater disadvantage than the inefficient delta used on current Europhoons.
      The Europhoon wing leading edges on Europhoons are being redesigned as we speak. The aircraft bleeds too much energy in repeated turns, which makes it harder to carry a decent ground weapon load and (judging by Reuters last year) impossible to fit Conformal Fuel Tanks.
      I really have to laugh at the people writing off the F-35 who seemingly ignore the fact that Europe already flies an aircraft with limited capability that is difficult to adapt, costly to own and maintain and consequently has no sales. Europhoon is in such bad shape I can't believe people find the time to throw mud at the USA, when BAE and Airbus presided over a jet fighter that nobody wants after only 10 years of frontline service, in which time, I might add, it has seen little action.

    • @simonwatts8338

      The RAF test pilot was talking the company line. If anybody bothers to look up the published performance figures for the F35, for which the contract specs have had to be reduced so it could pass the tests, you would see it aint in the same ball park as the Typhoon, agility, acceleration and speed wise.

    • @muppetrowlf1473
      @muppetrowlf1473 9 років тому +2

      What rubbish.
      F-35 is not designed solely for air combat, unlike the useless Europhoon. F-35 is a true multi purpose aircraft with a ground attack component already built in. Most unlike Eurojoker.
      The Harrier is the same. Flexible multi role and deadly in the right hands. Only it's inventors no longer fly it. Fancy cancelling the Harrier to be left with useless old shit like Tornado and useless new shit ( that nobody wants or can afford ) like Europhoon.
      Roll on F-35. A decent American jet like the ones Britain should have bought years ago.
      Why should the Danes, Dutch and the Belgians have better fighter aircraft (F-16) than the RAF? Scandal. All borne of our stupid attitude to European politics. And it's cost us dear.

  • @tjp353
    @tjp353 11 років тому +1

    It may be easy to fit the nozzles, but Typhoon's 'carefree handling' limits & assistance would need totally re-working to make full use of the benefits of tvc.
    In normal wingborne flight, providing that the control surfaces have sufficient control authority, tvc may not particularly enhance manoeverability - since the aircraft's ability to manoever depends on the wing's ability to produce the required lift, regardless of whether control comes from the engine nozzles or the elevons & foreplanes.

      All contracts have interests behind countries like the Typhoon has lost some competition to be better the conditions of your opponent, in other contests has been chosen the best, and yet that the country has not chosen, France is giving the Rafale, making offers that no country can match. The Rafale is a great aircraft and has advantages such as being able to embark, which would be impossible with the Typhoon.

    Just to clarify my position. I love the typhoon, I think it's an excellent aircraft and will destroy what it was designed to destroy; the Su-27 series. Once it has a viable AESA I think the only Russian platform that will touch it is the T-50, and we have no idea how capable, or not, that will end up being. The F-22A and Typhoon were not designed to fight each other, but the F-22 does offer some capabilities the Typhoon does not. Given the cost of the program i dont know why anyone is surprised

This was out of 20 simulated 1v1 fights. I still haven't seen anywhere say how many Typhoon's where shot down and how many of the 16 other fights ended in a draw. The Rafale lost 2, and stalemated 4.

      As I recall, the F-16 MATV/VISTA test aircraft could perform this maneuver, as well, with its multi-axis ("3D") thrust vectoring nozzle. Note that unlike the X-31 and F-16 MATV/VISTA, the F-22 can perform the maneuver without thrust vectoring. :)

      Andy C They aren't designing it, it's already ready for deployment. But it's not needed, as it can already turn as fast as the F-22 and Su-35. A carrier based Typhoon would have TVC though.

      As I understand it they already did and rejected it, and for good reason. Make no mistake about it 'thrust vectoring is rubbish, its good for air shows and that's about it. Thrust vectoring is a bit like having turbo on a combustion engine trying to get out of an engine what integrally it can't actually do. The same goes with planes, its to get them to do what the air frame isn't actually capable of doing on its own, and just like lag with turbos thrust vectoring when used reduces significant air speed which frankly is the last thing you want in a dog fight. THRUST VECTORING IS GOOD FOR AIR SHOWS PERIOD.

    Stealth doesn't matter with an IR-signature as gib as the F-22's. The Eurofighter's IRST can locate the F-22 from a distance of 100km. Stealth only halps against outdated aircrafts and not against hightech fighter jets.

      Just so you know, the Typhoon was built to be unstable so that it would be incredibly manoeuvrable. The electronic systems are there to keep it steady when they aren't in contact. It's much better than the F-22 Raptor in terms of manoeuvrability. Although, I'm sure many Americans will disagree, as they always do.

  • @rasmasyean
    @rasmasyean 13 років тому

    @atmodom I suppose that if figthers have stealth to a point where there is no radar/heat signature (not this typhoon) it is possible that pilots will have to red barron it. I would guess by that time missles would have vision systems (similar to javelin) or perhaps energy weapons (which I guess you have to get into visual range at least). For the latter, the attacker would just need to make sure the target is in the cone of fire/sensor, but not necessarily directly in front.

      +AF A If Russia invented stealth then why are they still trying, and failing, to design an aircraft with this capability? The PAK FA is a disaster with poor stealth characteristics, even Russia know this hence why they are only ordering 12 units to be kept in reserve.. America have had a stealth fighter in service for 10 years now (F22 Raptor) with a second (F35B) going into IOC afew months ago.
      As for 3D thrust vectoring, it looks great at airshows, but in the theatre of war it's useless.. One example is a SU35 bleeding off all its energy doing a cobra whilst a Eurofighter pilot just uses his/her helmet targeting system to look at, and shoot down its enemy, no nose pointing needed when all you need to do is look at your target to a get lock-on.. 3D vectoring has been simulated on the EF and fitted to the F16 for testing, both found no real benefits in combat.. The latest EF's rolling off the production line will however be fitted with the latest aerodynamic pack, which will give it upto 25% more lift & an improved roll rate of upto 100%.. The high angle of attack will also be vastly improved which will keep it ahead of the game.
      If Russia spent less on propaganda & more into testing & design they might actually build something that can compare to western 4+/5th gen fighters, then they might get some units sold.. The SU35 has less than 100 on order whereas the Eurofighter is currently at 599 ordered with more expected, Rafale 250+, Gripen 300+, F22 187 with no export available.. That's before I mention the thousands of F35's that will be built for the 11 countries that have ordered it.. But an internet warrior knows better than the 30+ countries military experts that have chosen western fighters ahead of anything Russian, including 3 of the BRICS nations, even Vietnam are looking at Western options now.. Hilarious!

    The Typhoon does have a third longer combat radius but it's rate of climb is 315 meters per second to the F-22 estimated 300, so if it is higher it isn't by much. Top speed is another difficult issue as the Typhoon is estimated to be something over Mach 2, while the Raptor is estimated to be over Mach 2.2, so we simply don't know which is faster. The newest AMRAAM is built with lock after launch capability, so it can be launched at its max range of 90 miles, and lock on its own at closer range.

      Dutch : The US proposed to the Dutch to join the JSF program, on the paper the F-35 is better and less expensive. Today the Dutch regret this choice.
      Singapore, South Korea : The US have a very big influence on these countries, it was easy for the Americans to convince them to choose the F-15, even if the Rafale was better in both evaluations.
      We can also add Morocco : The US proposed to increase the financial aid if Morocco buy F-16.

    According to my knowledge Stealth technology can not bring any advantage in terms of manoeuvrability for fighter jet - the point is that even that Stealth technology works not in favour of aerodynamics and manoeuvrability modern technology is using some other "tricks" to make it turn very good - and it is good opponent to E.Typhoon and Su-35 : can't say which of those is better (in dog fight) but for me its clear that those are THE BEST :-)

    Typhoon's AESA, when they actually field it, is a first generation system. AN/APG-77 is already including some 3rd gen components.
    IRST's cannot cue a BVR missile shot because they don't provide range information. Thus you are limited to the effective range of your LRF. It's no replacement for an FCR. Plus the F-22A can actually supercruise, so you wont see a burner plume.
    AIM-120D has excellent kinematic performance, better than any other in service missile. NEZ depends on early detection

    1) Look, both missiles have a finite amount of energy at the point of launch; essentially the altitude difference between launcher and target, the energy of the launcher and the fuel in the missile. Thus if missile A with a ramjet and missile B with a rocket motor have the same potential energy they will have the same range, bar aerodynamic differences. Agree?
    The only real benefit a ramjet gives you - bar a higher SP - is saving some of that energy for later in the flight path. Agree?

    That's true, the Meteor maintains it's PK at it's max range while at about 2/3's its range the PK on the AMRAAM starts to drop off, but that doesn't change that the Meteor's max range is about 66 miles, and 2/3 of 90 miles is 60 miles. Given how similar the Missiles are, the F-22's RCS being about 1 hundredth of the Typhoons does give it a pretty big advantage until closing into PIRATE range.

    How many times have they fixed the oxygen problem, last I heard it was not fixed and they were installing back up oxygen systems to the F 22. The other problems are ongoing, thrust vectoring has severe limitations for combat, the worst being the loss of energy leaving the plane a sitting target for a while, The Typhoon can make quick turns and not lose energy. It is no use detecting a plane at long range but not having a missile capable of being used at the range. They still don`t like rain.

  • @DJHypernovaUKHC

    AN/APG-77 has already undergone a T/R module replacement with AN/APG-82 modules. So the antenna is already 2nd gen. They are currently testing 3rd gen technologies such as EA and CDL.
    Sure the F-22A lacks some HUI upgrades, especially WVR equipment such as HOBS and JHMCS. I agree the Typhoon is better in these areas, but the F-22A is optimised as a BVR platform currently.

    the Typhoons has a frontal RCS of .1 square meter, to the Raptors .0012 (estimated using airtrafic control records). This means the Raptors least stealthy side is 100 times harder to see than the Typhoons most stealthy side. Because RADAR follows the inverse square law that means it's 10,000 times harder to detect with RADAR. This can be seen in how both the Rafale and Typhoon failed to get a tractable return, even at within 100 ft.

    2) This is important because when rocket on a ballistic trajectory has to maneuver to a new intercept point, it looses energy it cant replace. Ramjet has fuel to expend throughout more of the flight path, so some of that energy can recouped even if the target maneuvers. This is an advantage I agree.
    Raytheon addressed this problem in the D model by giving the rocket motor a second - smaller - stage does the same job. No its not as good as a ramjet.

    US should scrap the F 22 and buy Typhoons instead, they already fly successfully and if the F 22 ever works it will have cost a large fortune for each aircraft and they might have just about fixed all the problems when it runs out of air-frame hours or maybe they will just keep it as a show piece and mainly fly it at air shows which is the only place where thrust vectoring is a lot of use.

    As for the meteor, when you talk about improved performance, I assume you're just talking kinematics, right? Because from what i read the sensor package on the AIM-120D is, if anything, better. All of these missiles will out perform an aircraft within a pretty large NEZ, which again is dependent upon early detection of the missile shot. No IR based MAWS will detect an AIM-120D missile in the boost phase at 100+km, AFAIK even DAS cant do that.
    BTW Meteor will go ballistic at long range.
