One of the funniest things that I found in my research was highlighted during a clip at 23:31. One of the guys doing research on the effects of ultra processed foods on the environment basically said, "Uh... if you want to put a huge dent in climate change and plastic pollution, then maybe you should stop overeating." Ilyssa is out here trying to shame everyone about driving and littering while simultaneously promoting one of the biggest causes of pollution, which is obesity. It is really uncanny how much this girl promotes addictive junk food to her audience. It's pretty much the only type of food she ever talks about or shows herself eating.
Is her next plan to stop pollution to side with electronics companies like Apple or Samsung who are well known for increasing electronics pollution by constantly lobbying against right to repair, engaging in planned obsolescence, and knowingly creating defective products that all have the same design flaws for years like faulty charge ports or bad wiring placement for the monitor? I wouldn't be surprised if I saw her on a soap box telling kids to buy Apple products because they donated a couple of dollars to prevent greenhouse gasses. Meanwhile Apple certified repair shops will have you throw away a laptop that's only a year old because there is some dust in the charge port and it won't charge.

To be honest, is anyone actually shocked that she is unable to tell the difference?
Illymation is just another storytime animator, aka someone with narcissistic tendencies who conflates underachievement with specialness. She disliked being picked on for not being healthier, but she had a number of possible excuses as to why she was failing to lose weight raring to go. When each excuse was shut down by medical professionals, instead of admitting that she simply needed to put in more effort, she suddenly concluded that it doesn't matter anyway because her body is 'healthier than it's ever been'. She can spin it however she wants to, but the truth is that she is just a failure who didn't try hard enough. I agree that it's important for one to feel comfortable with themselves, but people like Illymation spread this dangerous lie that it's acceptable to give up on your goals before you've given it your all. No strive, no ambition, no sense of personal responsibility. Just self-pity and humble-bragging between tubs of ice cream.
Do people really think it a coincidence that so many of the big UA-cam storytime animators thrive on stuff like this? Their entire community is built around being quirky, portraying their meekness as quaint rather than what it really is: sly and aggressive. They are different, and they won't stop letting you know until you start praising them for it. Social media has allowed every random nobody to have a turn with the microphone, but that's perpetuated this myth that your typical random nobody has something actually worthwhile to say. Most of them do not. Most of these influencer types are only successful on social media because they are utterly hopeless when they step outside into the real world. They realise that they can make a living from within their bubble by preying on impressionable audiences who are making the same fundamental mistakes that they did when they were young. Communities such as Illymation's reward the emotionally stunted by allowing them to abandon all responsibility and self-criticism under the guise of 'tolerance' and 'acceptance'. It's a complete waste of her talent.
Never trust someone who claims to be a storyteller despite being incapable of telling stories about anyone other than themselves. People like that will never accept criticism.

WARNING: MAJOR RANT
This whole drama disappoints and enrages me so much, because I used to be a fan of Illy’s videos. I started watching her videos back when she started getting popular (was won over by her public school food video). I stopped watching her in 2020 due to being interested in other channels, but was won back briefly by her Autism video. I genuinely thought it was one of the most well-researched and informative videos she ever did. At this point, I thought she was one of the best storytime animators on the channel, maybe Odd1Sout but better and more sincere. Looking back, there were some red flags within her videos, but at the time, I didn’t notice them.
And then came her “Perks of Being Fat” video
Even when I watched it for the first time, I found the video to a bit poorly informed, but didn’t think too much of it then, and thought it was in the same vein as her other videos.
And then I saw TBYS’ video, and that was when I truly saw her video for what it really was: a poorly informed, ignorant mess of a video disguised as “fat acceptance” and filled with contradictions.
What truly sealed the deal on my feeling about Illy was her not taking the criticism well and leading a HATE CAMPAIGN against a UA-camr that didn’t do shit. She even had the AUDACITY to try to flag a video and call it “extreme right-wing” when it was really apolitical and just offered constructive criticism to make Illy a better person. That moment right there was when I began to see Illy for who she truly was: a sad, victim-playing child that believes she is right about everything and attacks people that disagree with her.
And looking back, I think Illy’s victim mentality was staring right in our faces the entire time, and we all ignored it back then. It sucks that she was abused by her ex, but goddamnit Illy, you can’t use your trauma as an excuse to cyberbully your perceived enemies. If this is really how you feel, then I’m sorry Illy, but you really are no better than the girls that bullied you back in middle school.
And that all sucks, because again, I used to a big fan of Illy’s videos. That ship has sailed.
She has no one to blame for this but herself.

Yes, I, for one, am glad I was made fun of for my weight. It motivated me to achieve a healthy weight, gain muscle, and commit to regular workouts and proper dieting. I will continue to prioritize my health and fitness, striving to maintain my progress and make healthy choices consistently.

Yeah. I get that it’s wrong to bully people for being overweight (though, for the record, I don’t think TBYS came anywhere close to bullying anyone in his Illymation video), because bullying people usually only makes them feel worse about themselves which perpetuates their bad habits.
But outright denying basic health science because it’s “fatphobic” or “ableist”? Yeah, that bullshit’s gotta stop. If I decided to embrace my health issues and flaws rather than actively work against them, Cystic Fibrosis would’ve killed me a very long time ago.
She *needs* to think that- or else she’d actually have to face her addiction and change her diet. Victim mentalities are a poison. It makes people think victims have some sort of “power” (influence over others? Clout? Whatever), when being a victim is a, quite literally, powerless position. You have no say or control over anything regarding the situation you’re in.
Personally, as a CSA survivor, I do prefer that term - survivor. More empowering, I feel? Like a phoenix reborn from the ashes of a traumatic experience.
Your life will never be the same, but with a survivor mentality rather than a victim mentality, you can move forward with your life. A victim mentality keeps you trapped there.

This is the fundamental difference between winners and losers. Winners have put the work in to improve themselves, so they know what is involved. As a result, they tend to want to help other people achieve the same. On the other hand, losers refuse to put any effort into their lives, they actually spend more time and energy making excuses to justify the poor outcomes they get (and deserve). So losers are far more likely to try and pull other people down, rather than encourage them to thrive.
And losers love to surround themselves with other losers, to help validate their weak mentality. They lack the courage, confidence and individuality to step up and improve themselves, they prefer to make excuses and get other people to make excuses for them. And also, they lack the self awareness to realise their approach doesn't work, which is why they get so butthurt when someone refuses to validate them.
Losers want a world where they can't be criticised, held accountable for their actions, and told to grow up etc, which is why they beg for censorship. It is easier than admitting to themselves they deserve the outcomes they get due to their lack of effort.

I was 14 doing horrible habits that were gonna destroy any discipline or attractiveness I coulda had. So I started improving myself and started taking care of myself and going to the gym. My dad, who used to be morbidly obese, would call Illy an idiot. He had to go through pain and effort to lose weight, more than most because he is incapable of exercise due to military injuries. He had to get a bariatric surgery, which is basically where they remove the majority of or the entirety of the stomach. And even before he could get the surgery, he had to starve himself for weeks to lose enough weight to make the surgery realistically safe and viable. To say it was a bad episode for him would be a truth. Not his darkest, but he never wants to be fat again. In his own words, he described a morbidly obese body as a painful prison.
The termination shock after losing so much weight literally made him unable to walk like a normal person for a little while, and even to this day he walks with a cane. I, and hopefully others, can use examples like my dad as cautionary tales. Not everyone can just run and do jumping jacks to burn the fat, some people have to sit and dissolve it themselves. It could be you, should you not be careful.
My dad tells me that if your friend points out you're fat, they care more about you than if they hadn't, because it shows they have genuine concern for your health. Of course, with all the body positivity bullshit going about, seeing this happen is far rarer, out of fear of negative sanctions, but it's something I like to keep in mind. If they point out a flaw straight up, they're showing concern, not malice.
I know I’m a stranger so this is weird to say, but your dad is awesome and I love that man. He kinda reminds me of my dad who passed on his birthday in 2023 with that last part of your comment. The hardest things to hear/say often times come from the people who care about you the most and want you to be your best.
My sibling said my dad was abusive for mentioning their not brushing their teeth and rapid weight gain. All my dad had was the “gull” to care about them and want them to be healthy.
That same sibling just completely raked my parents over the coals and to this day, I don’t know why. As a 13-year old boy who is obese, I’ve always hated being obese. The sheer amount of effort I’ve put into exercise, dieting, and playing sports so that I can live a normal life has been immense. The fact that people wish to promote acceptance of overweight and obese people to make them considered healthy is absurd. No person should have to go through this, let alone a confused child/teen. My journey however, has proved to see that you just need to try harder and never give up, as I have almost lost a lot of it. Please, to anybody who wishes to change their body, but are confused if they are healthy, work hard to your goal to a healthy weight, because at the end of the day, skinny, fat, or average, we all have to work hard to our goals. We will make it, all of us!
As a 18 year old dude, I recommend getting interested in the gym. Try finding someone who peer pressures you into going with them since I find that more motivating than someone shitting on you all day for how you look. That's what. I was overweight (atleast in my country) for a fair lot of my life, partially because of genetics and partially because of my culture. As a teacher I believe kids should be taught about climate change and pollution BUT in a way they feel like they can do something about it. Like show them how to recycle and WHY we even do this. Show them in a playful way how to upcycle and so on. Honestly, this friend of Alyssa sounds like an awful person. They went into TBYS' video and purposely painted a wrong narrative about what he said and portrayed him as an awful bully, just to make Alyssa feel better.
Real friends are willing to intrude and keep their morals, regardless of friendships. If it was me, I would've said, "Look, there's some stuff I didn't agree with, but at the end of the day, he's voicing his opinion, which he's allowed to do and it's opened up a potential discussion. Maybe you could reach out to TBYS and do a video with him discussing it more?"
I don't think that's their true intentions at all; them saying "half the video was making fun of your appearance" does far more to hurt her than it does to supposedly help. There's a difference between illy watching the video and the friend mindlessly agreeing, and illy not watching it and the friend twisting the video to be as bad as possible to get illy to act and say something about it.
I think they definitely wanted illy to be upset enough to speak out about it rather than moving on and ignoring it, whether they have something against TBYS or wanted illy to get backlash is unclear, but I think it's definitely more manipulative than any sense of kindness at all like you're implying.
I don't think it has to do with being a "real" friend, I think it has to do with being smart and critically thinking. I was deathly loyal but I would mindlessly agree with everything someone said because I was naive, I wouldn't say that's being a fake friend but I was rather just dumb and didn't help them enough as I could have. The internet doesn't really encourage critical thinking or empathy, those things have to be focused on and trained to avoid stuff like this.

I really can't stand any politically leaning channels, except for TBYS. This man presents useful, researched information on a weekly basis, and 90% of it is more general life advice than anything else. One of the best channels on UA-cam.

Thats how you know you won the argument and thats how you know the person is in the wrong. I've delt with it in a drama before. The person I had to deal with would always do their best to make sure that the people they told about the drama we we're having would not even look at the other sides arguments. Because they know the arguments you have will completely destroy their point.

I remember her. I watched her story about her being in some f-ed up relationship and felt sympathy for her, but I’ve seen that the kind of people who accept that extent of horrible behavior towards them without standing up for themselves or placing any kind of boundaries often are prone to behaving pretty terribly themselves. Not to say that anyone is to blame for being put thru something like what she went thru, but she seriously needs to work on herself and her mental state because it seems like a lot of unresolved personal issues she has are causing her to get triggered and lash out.
I am a fat dude and i love watching this channel. It motivates me to work harder instead of having people suck up that fat is healthy. Like i know why i got fat..and i also know how to fix it..but laziness gets in the way. This guy gives it straight and actually tells you how to turn it around.
I've watched her videos in the past and she was institutionalized and admits to having severe autism, can't communicate with people or society well, and has severe depression and other psychological struggles. I wouldn't take her concerns too seriously.
