  • Curly Dock - an early wild edible to harvest. The root is a blood purifier and the seeds can be harvested for flour. This video will demonstrate how to harvest it and use some other wild edibles and culinary herbs to make a delicious meal.

    I have been exploring the wild plants in our yard recently and one of them is curly dock. I look forward to trying them out as well. It is amazing how many things we consider weeds are eatable.

      Yes, there are so many. We have a lot of purslane here too. That is prolific this time of year. God has provided many plants on the wild. Enjoy them! God bless.

      I have a video on edible weeds in the garden if you want to watch that. I think in that one I meant mention purslane but others have probably done a video on it too.

    I just remembered that boiling greens in small bits of water helps remove the oxalic acid if you drain off the water but you don't need tons of water... I make lots of stews and use greens but we don't drink all the soup part some but it helps to remove the acids...

      Wild Edibles Yes, dropping leaves in boiling water first and draining liquid probably is best. Next time I may do that first before adding to other veggies . Especially if you eat on a reg basis. 👍

    This is so sweet! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I made a wild green curry tonight for my kiddos. We had muscadine greens, plantain greens, and wild violets. While I was looking I found lots of dock. I wasn't sure about it though, so I just looked for info after dinner instead of trying it. Dinner was great! It is one of the kid's favorites. Maybe we will try the dock soon.

    Loved your video. I just finally found some curly dock in a neighbors unkept yard and dug them up. I am hoping they will survive the move too MY yard. I found broad leaf plaintain in a park recently. Brought them home too. This is what more people need to learn in view of the uncertain times we are living in. I learned recently that you can eat passion fruit leaves too. If the store shelves go empty, I will not starve, as my yard is full of edible weeds.

      Another tip which I have done with wild edibles that have more oxalic acid is your can parboil them first then add to other veggies to help reduce the oxalic acids.

    The ribs of the leaves would go well in a stir-fry! Saving the seeds from the ones ive let grow to do some purposeful planting next year.

      I don’t usually deal with the seeds. We have so much that comes up voluntarily. But I know what you mean about wanting to grow it in specific places to guard it from being mowed over or damaged. I had some volunteer in my garden beds so I let them go for a few years but eventually had to dig up roots as they were taking over. But roots are good to harvest too.

      It is important when working with something your body is unfamiliar with to take it slow. One thing I will say about curly dock is that it can be a gentle laxative. Take in moderation to see how your body reacts. Prayers and hope you feel better. 🙏

    • @Gods_creation.His_harvest
      @Gods_creation.His_harvest  3 роки тому +3

      There are many plants that grow wild that humans can eat. You need to be careful to be sure you identify them correctly. Curly dock or (yellow dock) is edible. The only precaution would be that some greens (including garden greens like spinach) have oxalic acid. Also many nuts have it too. This article explains it well.
