What I love about this guy is that he gets right to the point with his explanation and story----no 'pussyfooting around' for 10 minutes saying that he's going to tell us something. Plus he tells us what the herb can do AND shows us what it looks like and doesn't charge us $50 dollars in the end for a bottle of it!

@@jg1019 you are right about that. I was thinking of this body in this lifetime. There may be other lifetimes you are right. My point of course was one can change most any situation other than death. Might not get exactly what you want of course but could get away from most toxic situations.

The Ojibiwe people of the mid-west have referred to it as "the great puller outer" because if you make a poultice with it and apply it overnight, it draws out infection and foreign objects. This little plant is part of the mint family and all mints are safe for consumption.
ohh that reminds me of Ms. Barbara O'Neills' onion poultice. She says it's good at drawing out infection too! Thanks for sharing that mint family is an all-edible btw. It got me thinking what other plant families are good.

Here's another goody about onions: While slicing bread at a restaurant I worked at, I cut my finger pretty badly and couldn't get it to stop bleeding. Another waitress I worked with used the filmy skin from an onion as a bandage on my finger and it totally stopped the bleeding.
When I got to the emergency room, the E.R. nurse asked where I got the "butterfly bandage" from, I told her it was an onion skin and she was amazed. Turns out not only did it work to stop the bleeding, but it also kept it from getting infected.
Dandelion stems work well to pull out poisons too. It is my go to when ever I have any run in's with bee's, wasps, or stinging nettles. Works amazingly well.

@@johnkelly9451 just split open the dandelion stem and rub the inside part of the stem on the bee or stinging nettle contact point to your skin.

Yes, he probably kept out of trouble and would rather explore, learn, share with kindness and not be told ' go play in traffic ' ;) He took the road less traveled and off the beaten path to find his true self and many of natures unique gems as well. This guy is like in my Pantheon of great teachers, artists, musicians, healers, poets, etc! I'd give him his own department and budget if I could lol - I'm gushing and possibly man crushing LOL
Ive always thought the most amazing thing about these plants is that our " dim " ancestors knew enough about their properties ( before " science " )to give them names that would still help us after we'd lost our way.

You have a diminished knowledge. The names are recent. Eg Prunella vulgaris, busuioc de câmp, and a host of other names. Selfheal, or heal all, is a seventeenth century marketing ploy.

@@christopherellis2663 seventeenth century was 1601 to 1700. That seems like a long time ago.
I've crushed fresh leaves and jammed them directly into open wounds along with plantain leaves. Many reports (on myself especially) where stitches would be required but if you quickly gather fresh leaves, pound them until they turn dark green then apply directly into wound, self-heal will kill bad bacteria and germs. Apply gauze and tape. After a couple days, the wound may start to feel itchy. Remove the bandages, apply a fresh batch of leaves then wrap. After one week (especially with bad burns) you will be impressed! No infection, skin is growing healthy. It will have a blackened look around the wound, do not panic, it is the leaves which darken to near black leaving a tint on your skin. It washes off but do not use soap, alcohol or anything or it won't heal without a scar. We've used these leaves for decades on nearly every horrible wound you can imagine and never is there a scar or infection. I live in the Pacific NW and learned this from the Native Americans here 3 decades ago and I swear by self-heal and plantain for their antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-infection properties.

This is new to you??? This knowledge normal.....shows how alienated from nature so many have become....and uneducated, as in school we are taught about indigenous people go foraging. I'm glad that the knowledge of plants is being spread around again. I't was trying to be eradicated by modern synthetic drug makers. My co-worker had an earache last night and he was saying how he needed some amoxicillin and I thought of my Mullen plant in back that was flowing. Mullen oil for earaches. I'm learning. I'm going to keep my eyes open for Self Heal.
I heard years ago that some of the books on these herbal remedies from the old days were bought up and destroyed.
Same way Monsanto bought up antique seed sorting machines from farmers.
It may be no more than a coincidence, but I was just outside walking through a huge area where this grows on my property and saying to my dogs (I always have interesting conversations with my dogs!) that it is too bad that a plant so abundant and called Heal-all (that is the common name in my area) should be so lacking in medicinal properties. I actually read not long ago that the research was rather disappointing, but I can never help wondering why plants get the names and reputations they do unless there is at least something to it. I also can't help wondering if many pharmaceutical companies (who often sponsor such research) may have ulterior motives for not wanting people to heal themselves naturally. At any rate, I have included it in my wild foraging for many years and will now, happily add it to my medicine cabinet as well. Thanks for the video--informative, and fun to watch as usual!
Keep wondering & talking with your dogs... consider that wild herbs harvested & used correctly may work where scientific clinical trials simply don't. Why would a plant want to succeed in that system... our green cousins have seen what industry does to plants - chemical monoculture handled by machines never meet a living human or insect! Plant Hell. Of course the research will be disappointing....

Self heal is the main ingredient in the medicine I make for my chickens when they get sick, and it works great! Takes forever to pick enough, though. This year I'm planting a big patch of it so I won't be spending hours scouring my lawn trying to gather enough flower heads when needed.
@Rocco Diciano I have been harvesting from my lawn, but the task is painstakingly laborious and not helped at all by my partner who loves his lawnmower! I bought seeds from Richter's this year just so I can allocate a dedicated patch that the BF's mower cannot touch;)

My original reply is now quite old. We have since moved into the bush, completely off-grid, and without any predation issues thus far (we do have dogs, which is likely a major factor). As such, I got lazy this past winter, and quit closing the run doors at night (some of which are full human height) because it just got too damn cold (-25) for me to be able to go outside... This is THE FIRST winter that I never had a single sniffle or bubbly eye out of ANY of my chickens, so this experience tells me that "disease" in chickens is more closely tied with ventilation/freedom to roam (or lack thereof) than it is with any virus or bacterium.

I'm planning to infuse self heal into the oil I make for my skin in the summer. I also add cocoa butter, Shea butter, and coconut oil 🥰 Excited to make and add an oil extract of self heal to this! 💜
can I suggest that you add a good amount of oil out of vitamin E capsules? I used to suffer from horrible sunburns every summer. Since it is a bit sticky I used to add it to skin cream to help spread it on my skin, but cocoa butter and your other ingredients would work even better. My sunburn pain would last for days and take forever to heal. Then there was the peeling. when I use it on sunburn (or any kind of burns. I used to work with molten glass and got bad burns from it) by the next day my sunburn pain would be gone. and very minimal peeling. ( I can't find the scars from the bad burns I got from the molten glass, or from the blowtorch either)
I learned about vitamin E being used on burns from a report I read about a study done at a Canadian hospital on their burn patients. I didn't believe it until I started working with molten glass and got desperate. it works!
I make a slave using calendula,comfrey, lemon balm, and mallow….I will have to add self heal now too :) I love using cocoa butter in salves, wish it wasn’t so expensive though.
That was amazing, I learned so much so easily. Thank you for this. I recenty began to notice the tiny purple flowers all over what used to be my lawn, now a field of what most of us consider useless weeds. So happy to be learning otherwise. This video was such comprehensive and concise lesson on this plant. I will definitely be harvesting this from now on. 🥰

@@shainemaine1268 try medicinal seeds only. They are located in oregon but you can see their I line catalog or order a paper one. They give great service. And have a ton of seeds for medicinal plants.

I know but the thing is knowing what plants they are talking about and making sure nobody has sprayed them with pesticides even in your own yard you have to be careful because the wind blows that stuff and it goes in the ground! Unfortunately, I worked at Monsanto and the group I worked for was Roundup and I know how that poison spreads especially when it rains~

This would be an awesome natural sunblock. Store bought sun block completely blocks the sun, much of it contains carcinogens too, and we always wear sunglasses so we’re preventing valuable Vitamin D stores from building our immune system. Our skin and eyes is what absorbs Vitamin D and we’ve been programmed to be afraid of direct contact with sunlight 😤. Creation is for our benefit and it replenishes itself continually. So corporate America can take their “sustainability” and shove it!

Going about my landscape work this summer, I kept seeing this plant and something told me to eat it. So I looked it up and then started eating it whenever I found it. After a week or so I began to feel great. Now I take the tincture and caps until it comes back next year.

I was impressed when I discovered this plant and wonder why it is not more well known.
I'm afraid that it is not more widely known because big pharma and corporate medical kabal demons have been burying the knowledge and teachers for at least a century if not thousands of years.

These used to be in my dad's wild hay field, got cut and baled like other plants, fed the cows. I, not knowing better called them coneflower due to thinking they looked like a green pinecone! Never knew they were good for people. That field got plowed years ago, to plant corn.

I grow them from seeds in my raised bed. I decided to replace the green grass with All-Heal (self-heal, heal-all). Having all this All-Heal growing as my lawn, that means I won't have to cut the grass no more. I have Alfalfa and Sage growing as border. Bright Blessings!!!

the reason why weeds are invasive is because they're too successful at multiplying. Most weeds are medicine, like the dandelion.

There's an older book,i think out of print but available used online."The Herb Book" buy John Lust. It is the most thorough I have found.i have the paperback and carry it in a ziplock bag every time I go to parks or woods.

Wow! thank you! I have sooo much growing on the land I'm living on, I was wondering if I could do anything with it. When I first saw it "ajuga" came into my head (I see plants and remember names, the same way you hear a song and suddenly remember the lyrics), but after some short research I found out it was a very similar looking plant called "prunella vulgaris" or "self-heal". Before tossing it into the compost pile as it's in the way of some garden plans I have, I wanted to research it a bit more. Initially I was underwhelmed, but others I spoke to said they loved this herb. Now that I've seen your video, I love it too. I'm also glad I discovered you!
