      Hey @marten6578, thanks for checking out the video 👍it was St Helena winter time when we filmed this, as you can tell by all the layers the guys are wearing 😊

    Congratulations Darrin and Sharon for producing a video that I would consider to be at the level and quality of a BBC or PBS mini documentary. With adequate promotion, you should be getting the exposure for the worldwide media to come to the island and be at your door. Cheers once again from Jsckson, Mississippi, USA.

      Thank you William for that very kind comment 💓 we have been working on improving our filmmaking this last year and a bit, so lovely to receive this feedback.
      We have a few different ideas in the pipeline for promotional shorts in 2022 which will hopefully help with the positive exposure effort for St Helena.
      Take care over there in Mississippi - Cheers 👍😊

    I will never look at forests in the same way again. Had no idea so much work goes into the restoration and maintainance.

      It was a really educational experience for us, also, in making the film.

    I sail the wilderness of British Columbia coast. "Only about one per cent of that total forest is old growth in the way that you or I, or pretty much anybody would think of as being old forest" (research analysis). The song says "you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone" British Columbia knows this and yet logging corp would take the last native eco system old growth tree if they could. The fight here is on to save native old growth eco systems. Then enemy is global and the worst invasive species of all ... greed. You give hope to sanity. Thanks for the inspiration.

      Thanks @WarningSailorPoet - yes, it's heartbreaking to see how the planet is suffering through greed.
      We love what is being done here on St Helena and glad to do our little bit in sharing the hope.
      Cheers 👍

      Thanks Daniel. Yes, was only watching a short weather report on BBC World News today that actually showed the conditions in Toronto. Hope it gets a bit better for you soon. Cheers 👍

      @@whatthesaintsdidnext If I had the ability to come to your country, I'd be on a plane tomorrow. It's summer where you are but up here in Canada there is 48-60cm of snow on the ground and Toronto has a unique way to clear the snow. They call it "Spring"! Hehehehe

      Daniel, our winters can be quite gloomy here (if that helps 😊 )

    Painstaking work, as always with invasive plants, but the clearing teams are doing a fantastic job ! Hats off to them. :-) It's clear to me that it'll take a lot of patience, regular hard work and many years ahead until the original forests slowly reestablish themselves, but it's effort well spent.

      Thanks for the comment, Zemplin 👍 Agreed, this is certainly a long-term project that will take lots of patience and hard work. It's really impressive to see up close and we're so proud of the teams undertaking the work 😊❤️

    With peak oil and nations dissolving around the world, the people on this beautiful island will be in for one heck of time being so isolated. Wish they could be planting every available beneficial plant all over that place.

    • @whatthesaintsdidnext
      @whatthesaintsdidnext  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment Scott 👍 the planting work is ongoing, the guys continue to do a great job but it's a mammoth task. It can take months or years even to be able to see and appreciate the progress being made sometimes. Must admit, looking at all the turmoil around the world on TV sometimes, it makes us glad to be so isolated 😊 all the best to you from St Helena. Cheers

    I hope they have really strict Customs & Immigration controls at the new airport to stop more invasive plants and animals (and people!) coming in.

    • @whatthesaintsdidnext
      @whatthesaintsdidnext  Рік тому

      Yes, all arrivals at the airport pass through immigration, then biosecurity, then customs before being allowed to 'enter' the island. Even with these measures in place, biosecurity remains a major challenge. A simple thing such as hiking boots that haven't been cleaned properly can hide a tiny, unwanted seed that is inadvertently carried onto the Peaks. It's a worry, for sure.
